Pea milk. It has the same calories and protein content that growing minds need that other alternatives don’t have. Also soy milk has estrogen in it
Lactaid. It’s cow milk without the lactose. My son used to get super constipated when he was a toddler. We swapped him to lactaid and no more tummy issues. Taste just like normal milk
Try the grow and go shakes - goats milk would be worth a try as well. Or else limit the cows milk and more yogurt.
Poor baby! Could be a lactose allergy maybe? My cousins little boy struggled terribly with constipation and held it in and cried was horrible, he was prescribed movacol by the Gp I believe maybe go back and explain to the doctor ? Shouldn’t be in that much pain bless him good luck xx
If she’s eating a variety and balanced diet; she doesn’t need any milk If your nervous about certain vitamins, just give a toddler vitamins.
My daughter was lactose intolerant when younger we went to Walmart and got the oat meal milk my daughter loved it try that.
We had the same issue and switched to pediasure once a day and then almond milk and water the rest of the day. Definitely helped with the constipation.
With my son we used the almond milk with vanilla because it has a sweet taste…he wouldn’t drink the regular almond milk…now he won’t drink white milk at all just chocolate lactose free milk
Goats milk or lactaid
Lactose free milk, my daughter was the same way. She also likes coconut milk it wasn’t as thick as almond milk
My son started throwing up milk. So we started giving him lacoste free milk and is fine with that.
I give my son the Fair life milk that is dairy free. Also goat milk is also a suggestion from me. That is what I gave my son instead of formula
My daughter loves Oat Milk … I started to do half oat milk half regular milk and gradually lowered the amount of regular milk and had no issues.
You are doing the right thing.
My kiddo drinks coconut milk. It has the highest calcium count I could fine. His pediatrician recommended it to us.
Try Soy milk or almond milk
We do coconut milk! It has a sweet taste and the needed vitamins.
Goat milk fresh if possible, boil it, then cool it,
Milk does the same thing to my youngest daughter. Our pediatrician told us not to give her milk. That she gets her dairy from cheese and other things. Try putting probiotics with fiber in her drink it will help with the constipation.
Oat milk! Aldi has one that my baby loves. He doesn’t like other oat milk I’ve bought him from publix
Almond milk, cashew milk, goats milk… humans don’t need raw cows milk to live. So many possibilities. Ive heard good things about A2 also and Ripple
Yes my son was the same. We had to keep giving him formula at 15 months. He would normally take 3 bottles a day so then what I did was take the first bottle of the day and do half gallon milk and half formula and the other 2 bottles stayed formula. After a week we did 2 bottles half and half. Then 3, then one full gallon and so on till we got to 3 full gallon milk. I also gave him one 4oz of the prune/apple juice through out the day to help. He is now 18 months and he does good with gallon milk.
We used this with our daughter!
I do half milk half water , and also use zymils milk, when we were constipated as babies my mum used to put brown sugar in our milk told by the doctor , I do this now, and it works
I mixed soy milk and regular milk for my daughter. This helped regulate her.
Try goat’s milk my daughter was the same
I started mixing the almond milk with the whole milk until eventually it was all almond milk. I did notice it makes her pee a lot though so we also give her toddler formula. She is now 18 months old.
My son has never had dairy, hes 3. His pediatrician at first tried telling be he needs cows milk. I disagreed. He’s healthy. Always has been. She’s happy with where he’s at. There’s so many milk alternatives out there
Vanilla or chocolate almond milk
She doesn’t need milk🤷🏻♀️
Try putting some carp syrup in milk
We do oat milk and he loves it
Give 4 oz. Of prune juice or oj everyday at breakfast. You should see a difference
More fruits and vegs
Infacol my granddaughter is only 3 months old it works a treat and she likes the taste
My daughter does the same…I dilute it a little…it helps…or do 1%
Laxtade or how ever its spelled its real milk just no lactose and it actually tastes good too
Do half formula and half milk for awhile. If she tolerates, slowly increase milk or decrease formula. I even had to add water to the milk for awhile.
We use vanilla almond milk. If the almond milk she refused was unsweetened try the vanilla. Ask your doctor about vitamin D & calcium supplements. Depending on what else she’s consuming she may need those.
Goats milk is better than cows milk. Soy, almond and other’s arent recommended for toddler’s her age. They still need the vitamins from mammals.
Karo syrup , a spoonful in a bottle of milk. Works every time.
We had to slowly, and I mean one ounce at a time over the course of weeks to months, integrate it into formula for our son. If he took 4 oz of formula, we replaced one ounce of it for one bottle a day. And slowly increased to all bottles a day like that. And eventually replaced the whole thing with milk ounce by ounce. Took forever. But he was the same way, constipated and miserable initially with what we realized was way too much to fast for his poor little tummy. My daughter was totally different and much quicker. I noticed his intolerance early on when I was pumping, I had to give up dairy until I weaned him to formula at 4 months because he would react the same.
Literally anything but regular full dairy milk…
Cashew
Soy
Lactose free
Camel
Goat
Oatmilk
Almond milk. My teen daughter struggles with dairy, so that’s what she uses.
They make a sweetened vanilla almond milk that’s delicious. Yes, it’s more sugar but it’s so good. You can always start with regular almond milk first and if she doesn’t like it try the sweetened vanilla kind.
Eep! Please don’t push cows (or goat) milk, she may be allergic to dairy. When my son was a little over one, we took him to a pediatric allergist, he is allergic to dairy and has epi pens just in case.
After a ton of research we settled on ripple, we mixed it with Breastmilk (or formula) to slowly get him used to the taste.
Try organic milk or lactaid. My grandson is the same way. He drinks organic milk, you can get it at walmart
My son has a cow’s milk protein allergy/intolerance and was on a hypoallergenic formula (similac rtf alimentum- even the powder that had to be shaken up gave him terrible gas pains so we had to stick to just the liquid quarts- SO EXPENSIVE )as a baby that partially digests the protein to make it easier on his tummy. Obviously if yours is okay on a normal formula it’s probably not quite as extreme as a full blown allergy but it’s normal for babies/toddlers to have difficulty digesting cows milk whether it’s the protein itself or the lactose that cause it.
We kept ours on 16oz of his formula (morning and nighttime bottles or half a bottle in the morning and half with lunch) until he was 15 months or so. There’s absolutely no reason you can’t take your time transitioning- especially if your little one has a healthy appetite for real food and drinks water often.
I would definitely say that you are your child’s advocate and voice and if you don’t feel like your concerns are being heard, maybe it’s time to consider changing your pediatrician.
Because of my concerns of getting enough protein, calcium, and healthy fats without lots of added sugar I investigated a LOT before transitioning him off formula because I knew cow’s milk wouldn’t be an option. I know you said you’ve tried ripple milk and been unsuccessful but my recommendation would be to try to unsweetened vanilla flavor of ripple. There’s enough of a natural sweetness to make it yummy without the added sugar- there’s even less than regular chopped cow’s milk or formula.
I gradually mixed it in with his formula by like an ounce more every day or two until it was just all the ripple milk and it was a super easy adjustment. We also mix an ounce or two of the chocolate in during the daytime as a special treat.
Nutritionally ripple is most comparable to cows milk so I’d definitely say give it another chance!
Also probiotics and/or gas drops (I still give these to my almost 2 year old at least once a day or he has awful tummy pains and cramps)can help her digestive system’s health overall which might make things easier if you do choose to keep trying cow’s milk.
Also making sure she’s getting a lot of fresh fruits and veggies can help keep things regular. Those pouches of fruit/ veggie purees are awesome and very easy for even little ones to self feed with.
Water the cows milk down. I had to with my little
All mine have done the same they will drink 2% and 1% but I’d rather get whole milk and water it down 2oz water to 6oz milk helps a lot. And for constipation 4oz straight apple juice should clear her up in less than 24 hours
Our bodies can’t handle milk after we are don’t breastfeeding. We can’t break down the lactose. My kids drink oatmilk and love it. Slightly sweet from the oats. No peculiar tastes . I think it’s a good option for kids
I did goat milk with my second. Cow milk gave her diarrhea.
Maybe try goats milk.
Cows milk does make them constipated, you usually have to give them prune juice or apple juice to help them go , they want the fat content from whole milk
Your baby may be lactose intolerant so I would try lactose-free milk, see see if that improves anything same thing when you’re giving yogurts make sure it’s lactose free no ice cream unless it’s lactose free cheeses are generally okay because they get treated differently than regular cows milk or if an owner that works I would try almond milk not the original one because your baby won’t drink it because it has no flavor but any flavor of almond milk can be a good substitute.
My daughter never got constipated while she was on similac advance but when she recently turned 1 I would give her 2% milk and I noticed she would get constipated right away so her pediatrician told me to go ahead and try soy milk or almond milk both ate lactose I gave her the soy milk and she loves it and she dont get constipated at all.
Lactose free milk is worth a try same taste as norm milk nd worked 4 my boy
I would stop giving it . Why put your baby through that???
Poor little!!! Its gotta hurt so bad.
My little is allergic to dairy. Shws perfectly healthy with ZERO dairy in her 2 years of life. I give her coconut milk. But she really only takes it on cereal. Shes in 98th percentile for health reference. Super healthy baby! Cows milk is made for cows anyways. Not humans.
My daughter could not tolerate milk so doctor suggested PediaSure. They can even write a prescription for it if you have WIC.
My son’s dr opposed cow’s milk and recommended goats and almond milk.
There’s a few toddler formulas available at most chemists for kids 1yr and older, as I recall there’s also one they can take until about 10yrs old,
My son never drank milk. He never liked the taste. His pediatrician always said if he gets enough dairy (yogurt, cheese, ect) then it’s fine.
She may have a form of a dairy allergy and your doctor may not be thinking in that direction I would try goat’s milk but or the kids boost drinks but if she is healthy and eats great other wise you do what you feel is best for her and you. If with feel its something more I would consult with another doc
My daughter hasn’t drank milk since we took her off the bottle at 1 yr. No oat milk, almond milk, nothing. So we supplement her calcium with yogurt and cheese. Her dr said it was fine as looking as she continues to thrive.
My daughter had the opposite problem, it made her have the worst diarrhea I’ve ever seen. We switched to soy and then the lactaid milk until she was 2 and grew out of it. Still used regular milk for the family and cooking with no problem. It’s a little pricey but when only one person is drinking it it’s not bad. The lactaid tastes exactly like regular milk too. When she turned two I started mixing regular milk with it an ounce at a time until she was on full milk and she did great.
My youngest would not drink milk she hated it and our pediatrician told us cow milk is not required for healthy development. He did suggest that she get calcium from other sources. You could try giving Keifer, my daughter loved it and our pediatrician agreed it was very healthy.
Whole Cows milk constipated both of my boys as well. With my first son, I just started giving him 1% and with my second even that seemed to make his poops kinda hard. So I just kept him on the stage 2 toddler formula. He drinks cows milk just fine now and he’s almost 2.
Stop giving her cow’s milk, she doesn’t need it, and she’ll be just fine nutritionally, it offers nothing you can’t get from other more healthy sources. Good luck mama, hope it gets better for you and your little!
Maybe make sure she has enough fiber in her diet to help with the constipation they even do probiotics and stuff for kids. I’m getting the problem question being asked is more for the constipation than the milk.
So, my son was like that, where drinking whole milk constipated him for awhile…So we switched him to organic whole milk, and he was fine.
Regular milk messes my stomach up, but organic does not…So knowing that, we tried it with him & it worked.
might be something worth trying?
We do coconut milk. But we didnt start that until my youngest was 18 months. She was on toddler formula until then. My middle stays constipated. We do vanilla almond milk for him and sometimes banana milk. We also do probiotics for both my youngest which helps alot
You dont need to give her milk at that age. You only need to give her calcium. Milk is always suggested because that’s the easiest and quickest way to get it. Just let her stick to water and juice and give her yogurt or cheese instead for the needed calcium and vitamin d.
We are the only mammal that gives our offspring milk from an animal after weaning off breastfeeding (or formula). If you child is a good eater, then they should be able to get all the calcium they need.
Cow milk has the vitamin the child needs for her age.
For my kid was the rice/ bread/potatoes/ anything with starch or flour will give him constipation
we tried activia once in a while to help him too…
Also i was giving him some formula and had to change to low iron ( the iron was making him constipated)
Plus at that age they tummy still adjusting to process food and is very often that kids get constipated…
All my children have some sort of lactose issues so they are on Almond or lactose free milk. But I remember When switching our daughter from formula to cows milk she had a bad reaction, Runs throwing up. So We found this powder called Nido she seemed to talorate it much better. The holding her stool might not be because of the milk. We had a similar issue with our daughter she was just afraid to poop for some reason. The ped prescribed her some laxative because she would hold it for so long. Eventually she overcame it took her almost a month.
milk is not needed for a child… if she is eating yogurts and cheese, she has all what she needs. and there is nothing wrong with formula, i gave it to my daughter while she was three years. we have different types for different ages, so i have never seen it as anything wrong
There is no issue in still giving your baby formula. She gets so many vitamins through the formula and extra from eating solids.
My son was drinking A2 formula for toddlers up until 3 years of age. He didnt eat much though, hence why i kept him on formula for the nutrients.
But overall, your bubs will be fine without milk too.
I used the almond milk but I had to mix Ovaltine (sugar free) into it to get my son to even like it. Then I backed off in the flavors, either chocolate or strawberry, and eventually he he drank it straight.
He had the opposite problem of diarrhea and rashes on his face and neck. It is awful when your 2 year old thinks cheese is like candy!! We had to switch him to all soy and/or sheep milk products but he grew out if this, thank God , by age 8 or so!!
My son was on Toddler formula and he drank the soy one until he was 21 months old and then I switched him to the milk based one until he was around two and a half . He never really transitioned to drinking reg milk too well. He does ok with limited milk products though.
Try 1% milk. My son was on whole milk was having such a hard time going number 2. Peditrician said try 2% still having problems i talked with my WIC nutritionalist and she said we’re going to try this. Gave him 1% and he’s been great ever since. The belly cramps, constipation, the moodiness, all of it… GONE!
Rice milk is pretty neutral in flavor compared to other alternatives. My son liked it when he was little.
I wouldn’t give soy to boys especially with the plant estrogens.
My daughter is allergic to cows milk and she not lactose intolerant she is full on allergic. at 6 months I couldn’t take the painful crying any more so I told my husband to go and bye her soy-milk and baby cereal what a life changer. no longer give her soy we all drink almond or coconut milk. She isn’t malnourished and she’s actually a lot healthier then my son who has to take vitamins everyday. So go with your gut doctors keep forcing to give her cows milk b/c “she needed it” I’m happy I made that decision
Goat’s milk is easier to digest than cow’s milk. My daughter couldn’t tolerate any high protein foods or milk so we ended up going with rice milk (they have chocolate and vanilla flavor) and it’s enriched with vitamins too. Just make sure you get the one that says enriched (not all are)
When my brother was about the same age he had this problem. The doctor told her to feed him baby food prunes. It worked. I probably remember this because I would beg for a bite and she would give it to me. I still love prunes. Talk to your doctor first, and start with just a little to see what works for him.
My daughter couldn’t drink milk either when she was little and my pediatrician said as long as she got her vitamins and nutrients it was ok. So he suggested Poly Vi Sol with iron vitamins for babies and toddlers. My daughter is a very healthy 20 yr old now!
I used lactaid with my son. It’s still cows milk but gentler since it’s lactose free and big bonus, it was sweeter. It reminds me of milk that’s been in fruity pebbles . It also has more calcium than regular milk.
Sounds like too much sugar intake to me. Almond milk is nothing like cow’s milk so i don’t see the connection there. Maybe try to reduce the amount of sugar the child has.
Same issue so we use Fairlife lactose free whole milk… she never noticed the difference in taste when we switched
My son couldn’t digest the milk protein. Did she have a special formula? A2 milk is newer and doesn’t have the troubling protein.
You can mix the milk with formula at different ratios until the baby gets used to it. Start with like 2oz milk with 6 oz formula. Every week or two increase the milk and decrease the formula until it’s just milk. Worked wonderfully with my youngest.
My daughter can only drink the most expensive organic milk in the box lol. She just needs a certain quality of dairy for her body and can’t have too much in a day. Learned the hard way!!! My daughter wasn’t constipated but instead threw it all up. We did so many tests with her I drew the line and stopped. All the serious tests came back negative. Try changing to organic milk or even lactose free milk. We use the red box horizon milk and it really made a huge change. We also changed to 2% and that also helped a lot in my opinion.
The same used to happen to my daughter and I was told to use a little mineral oil in her morning milk or juice. Not a large amount but just a little to help her go. We did this for a little while and after a while she became regular and not longer needed it.
My daughter went through this as well … to the point there were a few ER trips. Finally someone suggested ( NOT) her pediatrician , that I give her mineral
Oil. So before doing so I checked with the pediatrician Nd she said sure! It won’t harm her in any way. That she actually had some young patients that took it by the MULTIPLE TBSP FULL. So after all that suffering, I started her out on 2 tsp per day and added more if necessary. It is NOT a laxative, it is ONLY A SOFTENER. It worked miracles for her and she still uses it when necessary. It’s odorless, flavorless and I expensive as well as effective. Needless to say, we also found another pediatrician. Her suffering was needless!!!
I mixed a half a lid of mirlax in my kids milk. Works great. Per their pediatrician of course❤
They cant taste it either
Ive tried it as well. It doesnt clump up either
My child gets constipated things that worked for me are
1 never feed your child with normal or cold milk always warm like luke warm.
2 Try adding 1 or 2 tea spoon of organic butter in warm milk for about 2 times a day, this really helps baby to naturally moist the stomacth pass the stool normally. Once she has passed her stool decrease the quantity of butter to like half tea spoon once a day for a week. This will soften her inner linings of stomach help cure her constipation. I hope this works for her.
My son is 1 also and he was having lots of diarrhea with the cows milk. My pediatrician told me to mix the cows milk with formula and gradually decrease the formula and increase the cows milk so his tummy could get used to it.
Lactaid milk taste very similar to dairy milk and it’s lactose free so it’s a lot easier to digest. To me it taste like regular milk just a bit sweeter my eight-year-old still drinks that she has all her life.
I gave my infant and toddler miralax in milk with her pediatricians approval. Now that’s she’s two she eats fiber gummies once a day and she’s good to go! We also gave prune baby food pouches daily. Sometimes miralax was too much so prunes then gummies later works great!
When I was a kid we raised goats due to my brother having an allergy to the protein in cow’s milk. Until we could get step up with our own my folks found some other folks that raised goats to get farm fresh milk from as the canned milk was gross. Not sure if the commercial milk is any better now or not but it made a world of difference. Might be able to contact your local extension office to find out if you have any local sources available (ask for the ag or 4H secretary for holp).
My duaghter had the same isuues and we found goats milk which worked for her. She still only drinks goats milk and we’re 4 years down the line Maybe worth a try if you can get your hands on it.
Prunes, raisins, apples all help love things along very well. Had to put my son on a regular serving of them when he was little.
