What can kids take for migraines?

Starting to think my son is getting migraines like I did growing up. He’s 5 almost 6 which is the age I started getting them. Are there medications now days for migraines? I’d hate to see him grow up with them

Acetaminophen ( Tylenol )

Definitely go see their doctor. My oldest starting getting them at 4.

My daughter had her first migraine last week (my dad and I also get them) I rotated Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours and she laid in a dark quiet room

Ask his pediatrician, not Facebook… Or at least call the nurse hot line.

I would make an eye exam appointment for him.My 18yo was getting them bas.I took her to the eye dr and she now wears glasses.

Its possible its something else, always get these things investigated, as head pain or headaches can be a sign of many different things…

I’m not saying its the same thing and I’m not trying to worry you, just explaining my experience…

My 7yr old Niece had head pain and me and her mum thought it was possibly migraines, as we both get vestibular migraines, she saw a Doctor and they sort of said could be but never prescribed anything as it hadn’t happened much…Just a few times…

Fast forward 3wks or so, she mentioned bit of trouble swallowing, we thought maybe acid reflux, my Sister made a Doctors appointment for her after school but she was called to the school that day to pick her up and take her the hospital as she was, in their words, acting highly medicated…Obviously she wasn’t…

We found out she had a DIPG Brain Tumour…The head pain was linked, as were the swallowing issues…

I always say to people now, get everything investigated till you’re satisfied, if its nothing, great but always best to be absolutely sure…x

First of all, we aren’t medical professionals therefore I can’t give you medical advice. Second of all, other than Tylenol and Benadryl. There’s not much because all the medications are aimed for patients 12 and older. Please see a neurologist.

Get their vision checked if not already done so… My son had migraines at that age, turned out his eyes were straining so much to see correctly that it gave him migraines. Worth looking into.

Definitely ask your pediatrician. My son gets migraines and he’s 8. He’s had them since he’s been born but we couldn’t really figure it out until recently. Best things we’ve found is for him to cool down quickly and take a nap but sometimes in public that isn’t an option. His pediatrician recommended him to take ibuprofen and some anti vomit meds but personally ibuprofen does nothing so I give him an excedrin that’s cut up into maybe a quarter of the pill and that helps him at least feel slightly better and not throw up.
