Looking to get suggestions on things to add to my list to buy for when/if I get approved to adopt a little girl. I already have a 8 yo daughter so toys are covered, but this little girl will most likely be 6yo- 9yo and most likely an African American. TIA!
I will not get anything until I get her , wait until you get to know her and see what things she like , I will let her pick her room decorations and save a little for clothes and shoes
I agree with the above. Obviously you need the basics, but definitely let her decorate her own room and let her tell you the things she likes. I think it’s awesome your adopting!
I let my daughter decorate her own room, she had a frame and mattress. Then we took her shopping.
If she is coming from foster care having her own bed with soft blankets will be comforting most likely. Since you pointed out her ethnicity I assume it may be different from your own so I’ll add getting a wide tooth comb and moisturizer for her hair will be helpful depending on how her hair is styled. One of the most helpful things you can do for yourself is check in your area for resources that can help you - there are often organizations or groups to help with clothes, hair stylists or classes on doing hair, even play groups with other foster/adopted kids. Getting a strong community of support is great!
