What do you get someone for Christmas who is 99 years old? I want to get her something but at the same time…idk what?
What’s her favorite food or drink? Does she need a new lap blanket or pillow? Does she have a favorite body spray ? Candles? Homemade cookies?
I would get something they could eat
IDK what your budget is but in my experience with my 102 year old MIL small thoughtful gifts are great! Slippers, warm gloves, home made things are all well received. Good luck!
A doll they can take care of if it’s a woman.
A photo shoot with her great/grandkids. Or a nice framed photo
Nothing just your presence or food.
A basket of her favourite cookies, fudge, fruit
Idk about their humor but I would get this because it says for ages 4-99
An experience/your time. If they are fortunate enough to still be able to go out take them to the movies, out to eat, to a museum… whatever interests them. If not bring the experience to them. Do a craft with them, play a game, help them write a book or letters or record videos for loved ones.
Ask them what they want. Do they have a treat they like? Or want pictures of themselves & family?
Ask caregivers what they need.
Cloth. Pajamas. Underwear. Socks. House shoes.
Legos cus they can’t have them after next bday lol
A handmade lap robe in their favorite colors.
A nice cozy Soft Blanket. I bought my cousin’s aunt one when she was 95 she loved it. Couldn’t stop talking Abt my blanket!!!
My grandma loved to get the gift baskets full of different jellies and jams to eat
Something warm like a fuzzy shawl or blanket. And something good to eat, candy, fruit, something they like to eat.
All the comfy stuff. Pjs, robe, slippers, sweets, nice book.
I gave my grandmother a book that was a starter for her life story. I knew her incredibly well but there are some really cool things in there I did not know. She said it was fun reminiscing to come up with all the info. She’s gone now and those stories are absolutely priceless. If she can’t write anymore maybe it’s something you could do together?
Spend time with her. And learn her story
If it were my nana? Portraits of the family/grand kids/ great grand kids.
Spend time with her. Write all her recipes and stories down. Have her grandkids make homemade cards / notes. Write a list of 99 things you love about her and share it with her. It’s the little things that matter the most.
Christmas light your and supper out
An experience. Spending the day with you perhaps.
A photo blanket, warm & cozy things, snacks, drinks (coffees, hot chocolate), handmade gifts.
Time with you and the family is the best gift. Get a meal out, tickets to a show, go to a movie, museum, find a warm indoor pool or indoor water park where she can wade or float with a life jacket or floatie in calm water or on a lazy river, sit among the sprayers, and enjoy the kids. Or do whatever she can manage.
BTW you can order handicap taxis if she’s in a wheelchair; just make sure your destination is accessible.
If she can’t get out, go to her and chat, ask her about her life and record it for posterity, play games, do simple crafts, play Mad Libs, color inna coloring book, bring fabric & paper bits to make a mosaic or collage—anything she’d enjoy.
If she’s not able to converse, simple kids games like Candyland or match colors. Try gentle massage—by you or a pro. Head, scalp, hands, feet, arms, legs—whatever she can tolerate. Give her a gentle facial, do her makeup or hire someone to do it, get her hair fixed.
Bat a balloon around, roll balls across a table. I’d take my dad with dementia to the game room in his care facility and we’d roll balls on the pool tables.
Play music/hymns she likes and have her try to sing along. Or play d radio shows for her. Find old funny TV shows from her youth and play them for her—Marx Brothers, Abbot and Costello, early Woody Allen movies, Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies. Or find old sports reels from a favorite team to relive their glory days. Get her books on tape if she can no longer read but can hear.
If you live too far away: Cashmere or cashmere-like cardigan, pants, wrap, skirt, robe, or dress that’s easy to put on for someone who’s always cold. UGG or other super comfortable and cushiony shoes, slippers or boots.
Good smelling lotions (I like Bath & Body Works body creams), face creams and cleansers, fragrance or body spray, digital picture frame, special treats to eat. Think sensory pleasures.
A robot animal or super soft stuffed toy animal she can pet and hold. A special pillow, like buckwheat hull filled or a bed wedge or those between your knees pillows. A warm and fancy bed jacket.
If she wears any, easy to put on jewelry. Fake if she lives in a facility where it might get stolen. Man-made gemstones and gold plate can look pretty sumptuous if you can afford it. I’ve found pretty things at CVS and Walmart.
Warm gloves, mittens, scarves and stylish hats and coats can all work if she goes outside. If she’s cold inside, get those knitted headbands meant for outdoor wear that she can wear inside.
What about a digital photo frame and download some family photos onto it
My Mom is 90. She says please don’t buy me Knick knacks.
Spend extra time with her!
Blanket or something comfy
Some of your complete attention and time spent with them.
A thank u for being in my life and for all our great memories we have shared together ,along with a big hug ,a big smile and I love u. That’s what I gave my Granny and made her whole day then she went home as she knew it was her time
My first thought was something homemade. I would give a basket of homemade food or something I’ve canned or made. Something easy to put on and cozy to wear. Puzzles. Those digital picture frames that you can upload pictures to from your phone! We love those because we can update for her anytime
Help her out with groceries. Like a gift card or something
Your time and memories!!! Spend every second that you can during the holiday season with them and make it magical!!!
Some home cooking for her freezer when you visit
A quilt anything nitted gloves if your in winter
Her favorite candy that she can suck on
