What happens when Zofran doesn't work?

Zofran help: what happens when it doesn’t work? I am so so sick with this pregnancy and nothing is helping, the doc gave me zofran and it worked for a few days but after that it stopped working (taking it 2x a day) I’m still getting sick from the time I open my eyes to the time I go to bed. It’s making it hard to go to work and to stay awake, I’m not dehydrated but I’m so exhausted from being sick all day long. I’m 10w3d.

They can prescribe other things.

I took declegis I think it was called

This was me literally, from I woke to I went to bed I was sick, either feeling sick or vomiting. Even tho I was drinking water etc I still ended up needing hosp visits for fluids etc ( HG). I tried acupuncture, magnesium spray everything but nothing worked. Reflexology helped to a extent as I relaxed and I didn’t focus so much on the feeling of nausea. Just get plenty of fresh air, sip fluids ( water, soda water) and eat little but often, easier said than done! I was prescribed ondansetron and it helped slightly… just know the end result is so worth it! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

This was me with my first and I hate to say it but nothing worked for me at all until the day he was born,

I was having the same issue my doctor prescribed metoclopramide, and I was able to take them both together it helped me get through the first trimester.

Ginger helps rather it’s ginger root make a tea out of it or ginger ale I had this problem not being able to hold anything down with my 2nd pregnancy

That was me til she came out of me. I wonder if you’re having a girl. My dr suggested smoothies and I wld eat cornbread and salad leaves. I hate you’re going through this

You need magnesium it helps with morning sickness, there are different kinds of magnesium get the right one.

My sickness was horrific 20-30 times a day and bad stomach ache didn’t know I was pregnant but discovered it due to the sickness I was only 5 weeks along I lost a stone in weight in the following 3 weeks, docs tried me on everything but nothing helped they told me I was high risk of losing her until my friend recommend thc I thought she was mental but honestly I was willing to try anything and within an hour my sickness stopped dead I ate a full meal for the first time in 3 month, sickness went down to about 4 times a day my girl was born really healthy and I was only in Labour for six hours, worth a try if all else fail.

Take your prenatal before bed instead of in the morning. I was told that prenatal can be a source of nausea. It actually worked for me.

I was that way with my first, eating crackers and drinking small sips of water at a time helped but I was constantly having to go get fluids. With my second it only lasted until 13 weeks. Hope it levels out for you soon.:crossed_fingers::mending_heart:

I had this too! It was so so so bad for me I ended up in the ER twice. If u need prescribed a bigger dose that could possibly be it. Also, try to rest when u need it don’t push urself. Also I found that eating plain things helped and drinking little sips of water did sometimes. I would literally like all the time all of the time it was horrible. I started eating potatoes it helped. With my first I cut out all veggies until after three months in and that helped.

Magnesium helps too! And also eating right after u take the Zofran. It was soooo bad for me I hope yours gets better.

I had HG. After medication and a few hospitalizations a pump was introduced. I wore the medicine so it continually gave me a dose.

I took Phenergan instead of Zofran for my first pregnancy and that helped so much. It was great

So sorry you are so sick, but you know your pregnancy is going well as hard as it is right now, it should go away at about 12 to 13 weeks. Also my daughter used ginger gravol for her morning sickness

Pharmacy tech and mom of 2 here, they can give u metoclopramide or promethazine for nausea. Promethazine will knock u out, like I was sleeping 18-19 hours a day in it. Metoclopramide made me feel weird, like I had restless leg syndrome but over my whole body. Someone mentioned declegis, it supposedly works but stupid experience and rarely covered by insurance. I’m taking like $500 for 30 days. And it’s only doxylamine, the main ingredient of unisom, and vitamin B6. Also that combo, unisom and B6 separately, along with zofran odt is prescribed alot, but not sure how effective as it wasn’t a thing when i had my kids 13 and 14 years ago. Nothing helped mine except a small amount of marijuana to keep at least 1 meal a day down and delivery. Seriously still puking while pushing with my oldest. Good luck

Likely unpopular opinion but it works. Sip on a room temp Coca-cola (specifically coke). There’s something about the heavy syrup that coats the stomach calming the acid that’s making you sick. I was so sick the whole 9 months with my first. My mother in law(at that time) suggested trying Coca-cola and I was desperate. Was amazed at how it helped.
Also as others have said take prenatal at night so it has time to absorb and not make you as nauseous.

Try sipping lemon water through the day. It’s cheap and worked wonders for me.

I’ve heard canned fruit in heavy syrup? If can’t eat the fruit, just drink some of the juice.

I used sea bands and swore by them. It’s a bracelet per say that pushes on a point in the wrist. Idk how they work but they definitely do. They are with sea sickness stuff at the store

Iv fluids 2 times a week and yes if you still getting that sick you are dehydrated. Unfortunately for me it lasted the entire pregnancy. I would eat next to a trash can because I knew 90% was coming back up.

Try Reglan? There are other medications out there. Speak to your doctor

Make sure your doctor knows it’s continuous. Because your in early stages of first trimester it’s normal, but if it persists into late stages of second it might be a condition. I had it with my first ( over 18 years ago). Unfortunately for me it wasn’t a thing back then and I was literally sick from sun up to sun down all 40 weeks to the point I was 87lbs when she was born… Take your prenatal at night before you go to sleep with toast or Crackers. Spend the day eating watermelon ( even if you don’t like it)until you can eat more solid food. The watermelon will help hydrate and put something solid in your stomach at the same time. It’s also known to help with nausea. Good luck.

I had HG have you tried taking it around the clock same time every 6 hours. I had a zofran pump also cuz I was so sick

Honestly there really isn’t much you can do besides trying your best to make sure you’re hydrated & eating. I had Hg for 3 months and needed a midline which administered Zofran and fluids most of the day. I couldn’t work or even get outta bed. It sucks but now my baby is here so it was worth it. Good luck mama

My entire second pregnancy. I was so frail! I’m so sorry. Nothing helped me unfortunately. From 8 weeks to 36 weeks it was non stop nausea and vomiting.

I was put on Zofran with promethazine. It helped.
Hopefully a combination will work for you!

I have hyperemesis so instead of letting it dissolve, I just swallowed it like a pill and that helped me. I also take 200 mg of b6 and 50 mg of unison everyday, and down to 3 days a week for my ivs so that all helps me on my non iv days a ton

Vitamin b6 and unisom worked for me

I took Diclegis and Zofrab with my fourth pregnancy. It maybe took the edge off, but frankly I felt like this for 20 weeks

I had the same issues . Lost 20 pounds with each of my boys . Couldn’t keep down an ice chip for 6 months! Ask for phenergan . I know this is crazy but zofran doesn’t help me but phenergan does ! I pray you can make it through !also , I had home health care come to me . I had phenergan in the IV an around the clock . See if you can go in the hospital or have home health care come to you .

Unisom! And smelling alcohol prep pads actually helped believe it or not

Get these they worked for me

Has the doc tried b6 and unisom??

All four pregnancies I was sick from The beginning to the end zofran helped some. But, not all the time, I lost a lot of weight through all my pregnancies. In fact I came out skinnier after I had my kids then what I was before being pregnant with all for my kids.

I ate freezes all through my pregnancy and it helped tremendously. I’ve heard alcohol wipes too just to smell them. (Don’t buy my head off but I’ve heard this worked for someone.)

Only thing that helped was ginger ale and crackers

Mine topped after 3 months

I was prescribe patches to put behind my ears for motion sickness. They worked wonders.

Little Indian Head Pumpkin Seeds were the only thing that worked for me. I was 33 lbs lighter when I delivered than before I got pregnant. Best of luck to you during this journey.

Idk nothing worked for me, not even zofran. I just had to wait for it to eventually pass. It was a long 5 months.
