Hey momma’s. I have a 6 year old in kindergarten. He’s started to get himself ready in the mornings, but other than that I do everything. How do you guys set chores. What ages did y’all start? I need him to start being a little more responsible but I have no idea where to start. Any advice?
He can literally do anything u teach him too dishes. Folding laundry. Sweeping. Vacuuming.take out the trash/ compost. Feed animals. Keep bedroom clean. My kids been helping since they were like 4. They love it. Teach responsibilities young.
Picking his room up. Picking up the living room, vacuuming, making his bed, setting the table for meals. Start teaching him how to fold laundry. If you have animals, feeding them and picking up after them.
Make his bed. Fold sox. Empty wastebasket. Feed pets. Help with dishes
At that age they can do just about anything that doesn’t involve harsh chemicals or being tall. Just don’t expect it to be “mom clean”. They might not be able to fold their own laundry correctly but can certainly put it away. Might not be able to reach into a top load washer, but can assist in switching the load into the dryer. Other daily ideas: wiping off table after meals, sweeping, feeding pets, picking up toys, putting away silverware or other lower level dishes from dishwasher. Some less frequent chores: dusting baseboards, picking up sticks in yard, cleaning window sills, emptying bathroom trash cans, helping fold laundry, wiping door handles/ light switches. Obviously don’t give your kiddo like 100 chores a day, those are just some ideas. But whatever chore(s) you give- make him take ownership of them. If it’s a daily chore, make him do it daily. Even if it’s something you do from time to time to get it “mom clean”. My 10 year old cleans his own bathroom…. But every couple weeks I go behind him and like actually clean it lol.
Anything that doesn’t involve chemicals… sweeping, vacuuming, general pickup, putting away clothes, replacing the trash bag in the trash can, emptying bathroom trash, putting away groceries, making bed, helping load/unload dishwasher except for sharp knives, helping with dinner prep, feeding any pets…All of which are safe and necessary life skills they will one day need.
