What is cord blood banking?

Hey mamas! So today, I got a call from the company who did the genetics testing for my daughter. They were calling to see if I was interested in using them for Cord Blood Banking. Now, I’ve done A LITTLE research on it. We stopped when we realized how out of our price range the fees and storing prices were… I told the man calling about that, but agreed to listen to the information anyways. You can never be too informed. Right? Well when he transferred me to one of their specialists, he was very polite and told me a few things I already knew and a couple I didnt. Then we got to pricing. I told him the same thing about why we havent put any more interest into it and a little background information. He put me on hold for like 10 minutes and came back, I guarantee smiling because I could literally hear the happy in his voice. Lol. He told me that due to some of the background information I told him, he was able to find a discount that could apply to me. Which, I know, sounds like a gimmick or something. But he genuinely sounded sincere, to me. Anyways, the discount was pretty drastic, bringing the 18 month payment plan for fees and the first year down from $126 a month to $69 a month. Also bringing down the yearly rate, after the 18 months, from $260 a year to $149 a year, with no revertmemt back to the original price at any point in time over the course of my daughters life… I had him send me the email of information and agreed to speak to him in about 2 weeks, after I’ve had time to discuss it and think it over. All prices I’ve viewed have been around the original prices he has given me. So, of course since for the next almost two years I am alone, I havent had the option to really consider it the way I wish I could have. These prices are more something I could afford, even alone. I’m honestly shocked at how low they are, compared to others… So my question for other mamas is 1) Have you banked? 2) What are your opinions/views on banking? 3) What are the ups and downs on banking? And 4) For those that looked into it or did do it, does this pricing seem reasonable for it? 5) Is it worth it? **The prices given do not include TISSUE banking, but is an option and will be priced based on the discount as well. Just havent looked into THAT yet. One step at a time. LOL. But information you have on that as well, is welcome  ** Thank you, all, in advance!!

I did cord Blood and Tissue banking for my daughter and I will tell you this you’re getting a good deal just make sure that it’s a very good company

I would have if I could have afforded it

It’s probably worth it,not something I could afford, but keep in mind you can also save your kid’s baby teeth that fall out and those also have cells that can regenerate and fight cancer cells… according to science. So…it depends on how backed up you want to be and how early you want to have that backup. I’ll wait and save all of my kid’s teeth she loses bc no one in my family has a history of early cancer. Just around 40 or so when my family usually ends up getting some type of cancer.

This is my, not so anonymous, post! Lol. I had it posted this afternoon, but never could view the comments! So they reposted for me, this way I could actually talk to some of yall about it! This company is used widely across my state. Our strand of hospitals, prefer them, actually. That and previous experience with other departments, I DO like the company and think they are fairly decent. (: My family has a long line of, later age, breast cancer. That’s pretty much the only form of cancer I’ve known in my family. BUT I know NOTHING in her father’s side and nothing on my mothers real paternal side. So I have some uncertain areas that I feel like this could be a safety net, for her. I am trying not to look at it like “If shes always healthy (please and thank you, God) than we wont ever need it and that’s wasted money.” Because this company will let us donate her cord blood at any time. So I could never look at it being completely wasteful, when another baby might need it. But in another sense, with my situation, could it be…? Any information on the things cord blood comes in play for, would be great! The lists I’ve found are very thin…

I looked into it with my first but just couldn’t afford it.

I looked into it 4 years ago with our first but it was an insanely high price tag. I just don’t see the average person being able to afford that even at the reduced rate monthly without fail (everyone goes through a financial crisis at some point) especially if you end up having more than one child. If your family can truly afford it for the next 40 years or whatever then absolutely but I imagine most families would struggle to keep this up at some point.

I saw zero point in cord banking as if it was ever needed my daughter would not be getting her own cord blood ( at least through the companies that kept calling us about it)

I couldnt afford it either with my children so I donated their cord blood to help others that couldn’t afford it.

I donated my sons. We couldn’t afford it. If I had the $ I definitely would.

I have my daughters saves thru CBI. . So far so good. It is expensive but my Dr said to think of it as extra insurance… good luck

I did it. I paid the initial fee which I think was 350$ then I paid 450$ for 6 months for 18 years of storage. I do not have to pay anything now. I hope this helps. I don’t regret doing it. It doesn’t only work for your child but it can be used on family members should they need it.

I did not I did cord delay clamping which let all the blood an cells into her body and dried up so no reason for cord banking
