Ok so I had my first prenatal visit yesterday.
One baby, 10 weeks and due December 13th by ultrasound but the doctor said they’re goong to say December 10th.
Now the weird part. I was rold they would induce me by request at 39 weeks if I’m dialted enough. Never have I been told this and I think it’s the stupidest thing ever to be induced early for no medical reason. Yes I get membrane sweeps aeound that time but I know those only work if baby is READY!!
I was not talked to about anything pregnancy related except what kind of labors I’ve had and if I had complications or not.
I was not talked to about smoking during pregnancy or caffine intake and I was not guven a prescription for prenatals which are the FIRST things my old OB ALWAYS did with each pregnancy and throughout.
They took bloodwork and didn’t even explain what it was for.
Yes I’ve had children before but as a new patient and a new pregnancy I believe these are things that should be reviewed.
I’ve heard good things about this doctor but I was also told that the OBs here try to pressure us into c-sections to fit their schedules.
I made it clear to them that they will NOT induce me anytime before 42 weeks unless it’s an emergancy and unavoidable.
Do you ladies think I’m expecting to much from my pregnancy care providers?
What do you think about their inducing women at 39 weeks for no reason?
Also: the doctor didn’t mention anything about my weight until i told him i had gained over 10lbs only to find out they had written down that i had LOST 17LBS. Wouldn’t that be something concerning for him to mention to me? All he said was keep an eye on my weight, didn’t offer a single shred of advice about eating habits or exercises.
I am so used to my doctors doing everything they can to make sure I have a healthy pregnancy, this just seems so strange to me.

I got induced at 39 weeks because I had 10 min apart contractions 24/7 for 2 months, labor stopped at 37 weeks, then sat at 4cm dilated for 2 weeks…if you are 4cm dilated for 2 weeks. This wouldn’t sound so weird to you hahaha I was MISERABLE lol
My now preg doc never said a word about prenatal i had to call and ask them they said just take something over the counter then im now 33 weeks and they have me sched for a c section i asked why they said they schedule every one incase of emergency so i completly understand what your saying

This is my first pregnancy and I wasn’t explained a lot of this stuff. They gave me blood work but didn’t know what it was for. They gave me a folder with a bunch of information to read so I guess that’s how they do it at my dr.
that basically happened to me with my first. i was induced cause the doctor was gonna visit some family i was just like whatever tho get this baby out of me lol

I asked to be induced at 39 weeks and I’d do it again if I ever had more kids and wish I would’ve done it with my first 2

I’d switch if you can. With my first I went through 3 OBs before I was happy. Second one didn’t have a choice with my insurance and hated it. 3rd one moved back home and used original OB. He had changed so much and didn’t care about anything compared to my first. So I’ll be looking yet again if we decide to have another. Peace of mind is important so try to find it

Either ask your questions at your next visit, write them down prior. Or get a new ob. Prenatals are over the counter.

Every ob to my knowledge does routine blood work on your first or second visit. And why on earth would you want to go to 42 weeks??? Just as theres risks of baby being taken early there are just as great of risks going past due. Plus who wants to be miserable 2 extra weeks?? Drs dont generally write scripts for prenatal anymore. Plus in my experience are far more expensive thru pharmacy then going to the store. Ask questions. Its not that hard. Im overweight and my dr never once said anything about it. And unless you’re highly over weight i doint they will. Unless you gain a whole lot between visits. If you want dietary suggestions ask for them. I was induced at 39 weeks and it was a much better labor than i could have ever imagined. From the time i arrived to the hospital parking lot to the time she was laid on my chest was barely over 5 hours

I lost 20 poumd my first pregnach cause i was so sick
You shouldn’t have to ask for information. With my first I was overloaded with info and papers. With my second, new Dr, same thing. My third was different bc my daughter was 7 months when I got pregnant again and used same OB but they still summarized, asked me questions to make sure I knew and again info papers. It’s not your job to seek answers to questions you shouldn’t have to ask. They should be on top of that. I would be very upset too… I completely agree with you. I understand why but I wouldn’t induce just because either. I was induced with my daughter but my amniotic fluid was so low, her heart rate kept dropping. I was a few days from 39 weeks. That’s lazy to do C-sections to fit the Drs schedule. I would find a new OB if I were you.

U can buy prenatal’s at any Walgreens, you can change doctors as well. With my daughter I went 42 weeks only because I was healthy and so was baby and had no complications but my doctor should of induced me at 40 weeks, if you have been pregnant before than you should know the do’s and dont’s of pregnancy, I’m 13 weeks and have already had 3 blood draws and 2 ultrasounds because I misscarried last year, they don’t really tell you about weight unless you are super over weight or gaining a lot, I’d definitely find a new OB that way you are comfortable
Clearly you do not trust your healthcare professional, so you find a new one. That simple.

Prenatals are otc… You can always call and ask for a prescription to be sent to meijer, where they are free
He’s a doc, not a nutritionist. Talk to one of those if you want diet advice. If you don’t wanna be induced then don’t be. No reason to make a fuss out of it

I was induced at 39 weeks, without medical reason. I chose to be induced 3 days before my daughter was due. She was hurting me on my right side🤷🏼

I had my babies at 38 weeks. I even had to get induced, but if the mother is too uncomfortable or in too much pain like I was they will induce the labor at 39.

The way you worded it is “upon request” meaning if YOU want to be induced that’s the soonest they will do it. That’s how it is for every ob. Most people don’t care what the blood work is really for. I’ve never actually listened to everything it’s for. I just know they do STD testing and probably drug testing. If you have questions then ask. My ob always just asked if I was taking my prenatals and never made me a prescription. They would have if I’d asked for one though. For the most part all my ob visits were lame and a waste of time. My last ob didn’t do squat except listen to the baby’s heart beat for every appointment even at the end.
After all that I would like to add that you shouldn’t be shaming moms who decide to get induced early. I needed to work every day that I could before having my last son. So I set up a date to be induced. 39w and 1d was going to be my induction. The day I went into labor was supposed to be my last day of work and the next day was supposed to be my induction.
They aren’t pushing you to be induced, they’re just telling you that if you need/want to be induced early then they can at 39 weeks

They probably figured you already knew from previous pregnancy and as far as inducing they do consider it for women who have already had children because the more pregnancy you have had the harder it is on your body
Why go 42 weeks…to risk losing your child? I had both my kids at 39 weeks, no problems. I know someone who went 41.5 weeks because the doctor sent her home n she would have lost her baby if she hadn’t had the gut sense to go to another emergency room. The baby had lost all the fluid and needed to stay in the hospital for a week on antibiotics!

Do your research after 40 weeks your risk of baby being a stillborn greatly increase. I’ve seen many women who waited and wanted it all natural and not rushed just to lose their baby.
Sounds like my OB… They don’t tell you anything unless something is wrong.
I was only told this for my last son. As I didn’t know once you are over 40 you have a greater risk of still birth if go over 40 weeks. My 1st son was born 12/13 I was due 2nd one 12/12 I was 41. My 1st son was emergency csection so I opted for a csection with 2nd one 5 days before due date so could take my tubes and so wasn’t as close to my other son.
