What is it like having a tubal?

Hey mommas…
I’m due any day now & have signed for a tubal ligation.
OB has informed me that the procedure would take place the same day as delivery & the anesthetic used would be that of my epidural. So, I have 2 kids already, & neither of the epidurals were effective during labor, so it felt it all. This could be because of my herniated discs on my lumbar spine caused by a car accident many years before my first child. So my question is, what do you feel, or how is the process of having a tubal? Do you recommend it? Any pros/cons? Note, my OB also mentioned that if the epidural is not effective this time around that the procedure since its an elective procedure can/will be scheduled at a later time as an out patient surgery. Any opinions/thoughts? I’m really getting anxious about being completely knocked out for this…
Thanks ladies

I got mine done 6 weeks pp

I wish I never would’ve had a tubal done. Nothing but problems since then and none of the doctors want to listen to me when I try to tell them my issues… hopefully yours will go better.

I’d ask for a spinal tap its different than epidural. In case epidural don’t take. I had mine done right after delivery.

My Mom had hers done with none of that she said it wasn’t painfull at all. Getting it done right after birth is easier because the tube is easier to get to. But if you gotta wait you’ll be put to sleep. I think it’s all about your pain tolerance.

I ended up with an emergency c section for with my last child and the removed my tubes , I had a epidural the whole c section

I had mine done within hours of having my last baby and I was put completely under. I had no problems and now me and my fiancé love the fact we can be as carefree as we want

I had them put the out for mine,I didn’t want any needles in my back ever.

They knocked me out for my tubal I didn’t feel anything til later

I’ve broken my back, have bulging disks, and a compression fracture. My spine is just not well. Yet, the epidural worked amazing. Maybe you just had a shitty anesthesiologist.

I have also signed a consent because this will be my 4th baby and my midwife told me I would have an outpatient procedure 2 weeks pp. She explained they would just go through my belly button and I would be able to go home that same day a few hours afterwards.

Had mine done at 6 weeks pp and I was nervous about being under for it as well. Ok I was completely terrified lol but in all honesty it was nothing. I was talking and being pushed to the OR one minute right after they started an IV drip and the next I was waking up in recovery. You’ve got this!

I’ve never had a tubal but I’ve had plenty surgeries. I promise there’s nothing to be afraid of. They put a mask on you and tell you to count down from 10. You’re out by 7.

I would REALLY Think about this… So many women have regrets about it and it’s expensive and not covered by insurance to be reversed. You never know how you will feel a few years from now. If you’re even the slightest bit unsure get an iud or birth control pills. Tubal ligation can in itself cause issues. Do your research and make an informed decision.

My OB preferred to do tubal locations after the 6 week post partum check up, unless delivery ended up as c section. So mine was done just after my 6 week check up. I went in, they put me under, and I don’t remember anything until after I was back in the original room. My husband drove me home. For the 1st couple days, while the bandage is still on, my belly button area was super tender. However, I also had an umbilical hernia that was repaired at the same time. And it was laparoscopic, so the belly button is where he went in. Since so had a 2 in 1 surgery, the recovery was slightly more painful due to the hernia. But really didn’t take too long.

I had a c-section when I had my tubal so I had the spinal tap. I could feel tugging but no pain until the nurses pushed their elbows into my stomach to push my daughter down. She’s 8 now and I didn’t have problems until 2 years ago. I had ended up a period every 14 days (instead of the normal 28 days) and they were lasting 8 to 9 days (instead of my normal 4-6). I had to get a d&c done in January of 2018 and had to get an endometrial ablation done in April 2018. Since the the ablation I haven’t had a period at all. Dr advised me there is an 80% success rate for that procedure.

With my last son I chose to get my tubes tied. Before delivery I got an epidural but my tubal was the next day. They left my epidermal needle in my spine to numb me for my tubal. They gave me first dose and waited and I could still feel my legs and such. Then another dose and another then finally they gave me the last dosage and it worked. I was pretty much paralyzed from the waste down from the epidurals but didn’t feel a thing. I would give it a try w the epidural if it doesn’t work then go in another time.

I was out. They removed my tubes.

I did it, was just fine…
But, I had to get a whole new epidural the next morning for my tubal, because they needed to take out the first and then did it the next morning… I came to after wheeling me back to my room on the bed, just make sure your going to have extra helpers around the house for at least a good couple weeks so you don’t over do it!

My ob didnt give me mine after i signed l the paperwork. Still mad 8 years later.

Ask for a spinal block instead of an epidural. They are much more effective.

I had my tubes tied the day after I delivered. I had no problem at all-quick surgery

I have spina bifida oculta so I have a vertebrae that has no covering in the lower back. When they do my epidurals they have to go about mid back instead of lower back and I’ve had good results in it working.

I had my daughter 5/10/18 @ 5 22 pm and on 5/11/2018 @ 12 pm got my tubial surgery and I was put to sleep. Didn’t feel nothing til about 8 pm that nite my stomach muscles where sore and very sensitive. You really don’t no how much use your stomach muscles for getting up and down, off a bed, chair, toilet and picking up ur newborn. The frist 24 hrs a lil rough but the hospital gave me a warm pack and that helped alot. Anytime u go from sitting to stand just hold a small pillow on your stomach muscles it helps even to cough or sneeze.By the next morning I was definitely up moving around much better so recovery wasn’t too bad. I also have bad disc in my lower back and had back labor with her. That’s the main reason why I chose to be put to sleep for my surgery and not have them give me an epidural. I delivered 4 babies all natural no pain meds. That could also be why my recovery wasn’t all that bad, high pain tolerance. I was so thankful that I could get my surgery done the next day bc your uterus is mostly healed after 6 weeks so recovery might have been harder. You got this labor is far from easy. Good luck Mama’s.

I had my tubes completely removed 4 years ago. It was done during a csection so there was no additional healing time. I had a spinal though rather than an epidural and didn’t feel anything. We were sure we didn’t want any more children. We based our decision on financial reasons and what we wanted to be able to give our children as they grew but I think when the decision is so permanent you will always have doubts and what ifs. Since having it done my periods because long and heavy and even after the week of actual period I still spot regularly throughout the month. I also have pretty bad cramping and bloating during my period now as well which I never had before the procedure.

I had 2 natural births, nothing for pain, due to high blood pressure. By the time they crowned, it was naturally numb.
