What kind of diet is good for someone who has PCOS?

So I just found out I have PCOS and was wondering what kind of diets worked for others that had it? We’ve been trying for about three years to have another baby to find out. This is why we haven’t been able to get pregnant. So now I’m on a new med to help me ovulate so I can hopefully get pregnant soon. My Dr said losing a little weight would help with getting pregnant so that’s why I was wondering what diets worked for others. Thank you in advance

Low fat low sugar. Especially important to follow portion sizes. My daughter was diagnosed last year at the age of 15 with PCOS and prediabetic and now at 16, we found out last week she is fully diabetic now. So its a whole different learning game for diet…

Keto isnt right for a lot of ppl and its not ok long term as its restrictive and can cause issues. I dont have health issues but ended up w my gallbladder inflamed bc of keto. Never in my life had issues w my gallbladder either!

I walked an hour at a track 4-5 times a week no soda no sugar (candy sweets) lots of protein a lot of water took cinnamon (2 capsules a day with breakfast) lost 35 pounds ) I’m 22 weeks pregnant

Whole foods. Count calories. No dairy. Good luck

Diabetic diet or Mediterranean diet

No dairy, no refined sugar, no carbs (or very minimal of all but I found that when I cut all 3 out I noticed a huge difference)

Keto! I tried to conceive for 8 years and had my baby 2 months ago. The only reason I got pregnant was from keto.

Margherita Scott maybe you could help?

It’s important to know if there are other underlying medical conditions. My daughter has PCOS and after a year on a low glycemic diet and supplements she was able to lose weight and conceive. She took prenatal vitamins and chelated minerals, omega 3, extra vitamin D, Coquinone and Saw Palmetto. Feel free to private messaging me for more information.

honestly weight watchers. It works for long term. If you actually follow it, it does help you learn overall better choices which can be sustained lifelong.

Look at ‘Kym Campbells 30 day challenge’ she does free meal plans every so often and I think the next one is the 21st, I’ve not tried it but am going to next week when it starts but I’ve been following her and the group for a while and theres always fellow PCOS ladies who have conceived with her help xx

Low carb low sugar. Just like a diabetic diet.

A co worker of mine that also has this condition had been doing keto & she said its done wonders for her.

Gluten free worked for me in one month. I had been trying IUI and fertility drugs to get pregnant for 2 years prior.

Was told I couldn’t have kids and I got a beautiful 2 year old. I didnt do no special diet or anything

Keto!!! Keto!!! Turned out I have one boy and baby on the way

Research insulin resistance nutrition , high fat nutrition will not work long long term for people with pcos

Foods low on the glycemic index

FODMAP diet helped me the best, but I also had really bad indigestion due to PCOS that I could never figure out what triggered it. Good luck, PCOS looks really different for each person, so you might need to try a few different things I’m afraid, but in the end it’s worth it to feel better

I was pre diabetic and insulin resistant but did not have PCOS. I lost 12kg in 2 months and fell pregnant very quickly i did the following.

  1. Was on metformin
  2. Did personal training at a gym twice a week and walked every other night for 1-2km
  3. Ate a low carb low sugar diet which was only meat, vegetables and some berries as i am dairy intolerent that was off the table too.

I was diagnosed with pcos at 19 years old. I know that loosing weight can be a struggle. I was told that a low carb, low fat diet would help. They prescribed me metformin. I am currently 38 weeks with my first baby with no fertility help. Best of luck to you

Keto is the only diet that has ever worked for me with PCOS. I swear by it. It’s hard as I love my carbs but it worked so well for me and I got pregnant right away (actually sooner than I wanted to lol). Also I would suggest taking myo-inositol. It’s better than metformin with insulin resistance and it doesn’t have any poopy or upset stomach side effects.

I eliminated gluten and processed sugar. I have a 9 year old who took 2 years of trying for before doing that and I have 3 surprise babies in a row (2,1,and 3 weeks) after doing that. It also got my cycles mostly regular along with relieving most of my other PCOS symptoms.

Just eat less, and move more. You WILL lose weight. And yes, preferably eat more of plants and less of red meat. Keto is going to ruin your liver, and you need your organs to be healthy if you’re going to carry another child. My sis-in-law has PCOS. She and my brother went on holiday, and walked all over to be able to enjoy the sights. A few months later, she conceived. They now have a son whose almost a year old, after eight years of trying.

I am so excited about my weightloss, energy, and overall how I am feeling that I would love to chat with you! Keto is the only diet to ever work for me. We tried for 3 years and couldnt. I was on metformin for a year while trying to concieve and nothing happened stopped taking it cus i was getting sick to my stomach. Started drinking this tea instead and within a month of taking it i was pregnant the first time 2.5 weeks on it the second time and got pregnant and my last one i didnt need anything

I have PCOS and have tried every diet under the sun. Unfortunately none of them are sustainable and all it has done is breed more self hatred within myself. My weight does what it wants, when it wants, no matter what I do. I eat a low carb, low sugar diet and work out 6 days a week and it makes absolutely no difference. We live in a fat phobic society and doctors treating PCOS with prescribed weight loss are just as complicit. The number on the scale is not what defines you and it doesn’t even indicate health. I went through years of fertility treatments, including IVF and had 3 miscarriages, 1 surprise baby and ended up adopting as well. I’m sorry you’re going through this but please, for your own sake, don’t focus so much on your weight, it will just make you miserable. I should know!

My sister has pcos and her doctor said she should go gluten free. He said gluten can cause the symptoms of pcos to be worse. I dont know if it will help you. It has really helped her.

My dr said I had the highest testosterone levels due to pcos that she had seen in her career but suggested keto and I did keto which helped me get pregnant with twins that I lost after stopping my diet and my son who I stopped keto slowly around 22 weeks and he’s a healthy little monster … but diets vary by person

I too suffer from PCOS and I was never on birth control but failed to get pregnant for five years. As soon as I went gluten (it took a few months for the gluten to completely leave my system) i got pregnant with no problem.

Anti-inflammatory based, heart-healthy or diabetic-friendly diets are what I’ve found work the best for me. I also avoid unnecessary starches and sugars like potatoes (though sweet potatoes, purple potatoes, that sort of thing, are good in moderation) and corn that provide little nutritional value. I additionally avoid things like breads that have high sugar. I cut out high fructose or any processed sugars where possible. I also have dye-trigger migraines so I’ve cut out foods with a lot of dyes in them as well.

What work for me is portion control, less sugar and more fruits and veggies. Along with exercise and metformin I was able to lose weight and keep under control. With that I was able to get pregnant twice, both healthy pregnancies and babies.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 28 years ago. We tried for 12 to get pregnant, I was on medication for ovulation, we attempted 3 artificial inseminations and nothing worked. We finally decided to adopt. We adopted our son at birth, he is 17 1/2 now. When he was 8, I got pregnant out of the blue at 42 with a boy. 3 years later, I got pregnant again with my daughter. I had her at 45. At that point I got my tubes tied, I was too old to have any more kids. My children are now 17 1/2, 9 1/2 and 6 1/2 and I am constantly exhausted at 51. Hold out hope, I never lost any weight. Apparently I turned into fertile Myrtle when I hit 40.

No diets. Mindful eating. Being aware of what an actual portion size looks like so people lose weight from a caloric deficit either that deficit being through exercise or through watching your calorie intake but the best way is both so eat your 2,000 calories a day And more of the high fiber leafy greens high protein foods and exercise to burn 500 cal per day that will get you more results than anything else in those results will be permanent because you will have changed your eating habits and lifestyle

I think it’s less of a diet and more of a lifestyle change that you are looking for. Eat healthy and clean, less carbs and very little sugar with lots of fresh veggies and proteins. It should help your metabolism. Again it’s about a long term change not a diet…

Keto got me pregnant after 6 miscarriages. I was on it for 2 years. Real talk. There are studies that were done with keto and pcos and main reason why I did keto was to conceive. Good luck

I cut out alcohol completely (easier for me to do that instead of attempt to do better at moderating my drinking) and started do intermittent fasting and following a low carb, high HEALTHY fats/high protein diet. I also added yoga to my weekly routine.
I lost just over 60 pounds in a year, achieved natural ovulation for the first time in my adult life and we are now almost 22 weeks pregnant
We had been trying to get pregnant for almost 4 years before I made these lifestyle changes.

Please DONT follow any diets as it will make it worse. Check out these podcasts

I’ve got PCOS and have dealt with weight problems all my life. I was diagnosed this past November, I didn’t know what was wrong with me before then. I usually do sit ups in the morning and night, planks and push ups, also walk as much as I can. I don’t diet. I eat in moderation, I try not to eat a lot of sugar but I do eat a lot of chicken and veggies. I’ve found that the best times to get pregnant is after taking birth control. You can also take clomid to help with ovulation. I took myself off birth control and got pregnant with my second, I wasn’t aware that that was the best possible time for me to get pregnant I just couldn’t take the headaches anymore and I took birth control for almost 6 months stopped because I’m almost 30 and it wasn’t helping with what it should have and got pregnant again.

Keto is great for it. I’ve heard so many amazing success stories. Not everyone likes it, but i hope you find what works for you.

I have Pcos as well. 2 rounds of clomid and we had our first. We have had 2 boys since without help. Eliminating gluten has helped with many different body issues for me.

I have pcos tried for 10 years to get pregnant and lose weight ended up having bariatric surgery 2 years ago and just had my miracle rainbow baby in may

Optavia is a weight lose program that aligns with the pcos diet that dr prescribe. But it’s really easy and convenient for people on the go.

The keto diet will definite help. There are many Facebook pages to support you. I’ve been doing keto myself for quite a while and I don’t have a lot to lose but I feel so much better in general. One page I’m on is full of women just like you who have PCOS and conceived very quickly after starting the keto lifestyle.

I have PCOS as well. I did metformin to regulate my cycle and clomid to super ovulate. I have twins now. I didn’t do any certain diet.

Keto and yes it works! It also helps so many women conceive who have a naturally hard time because of PCOS.

Start by downloading MyFitnessPal and logging what you eat. You’ll get a better visual of where you’re going wrong and what you need to change. Also, make sure you drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water each day. That helps SO MUCH.

Metformin helped to regulate me and I got pregnant. Clean eating, organics. Plenty of water and regular exercise. Diet= DIE🤣

I have it too and keto is the only thing that works for me

I was advised keto, I did lazy keto just to drop some weight and ended up falling pregnant, now I have a healthy 2 month old baby girl x

Low carb. Keto although for some diet doesn’t help and you need fertility drugs.

I did Weight Watchers. Got pregnant in six months.

I got pregnant everytime I went on a diet! So after 4, I quit.

PCOS can be linked to insulin resistance. So stay away from sugar/starches. Start taking Maca Root.

Try Geritol its a daily vitamin for women. It helped me get pregnant after 13yrs of marriage. Me and hubs had him 12 days after our 14th wedding anniversary.

I use the program Medi Weightloss. It really works for me. Google them. They also take health insurance & give free consultations.

Track what you eat and try to eat lower carb

Diabetes run in your family?

Only thing that helped me was metformin

Sajan, maybe some good ideas in here for you! Not for having babies but lowering symptom levels.

Doctor put me on metforin, I was pregnant before my next period.

I’ve heard Metformin helps

low carb low sugar pcos thrives on carbs and sugar

I have PCOS and got pregnant after losing 90lbs on keto. I had never even been pregnant before and didn’t think I could, we had been trying for years… I had given up, and started keto to lose weight, not knowing it would help me conceive. My little keto boy is 8 mos old now!

No diary. No gluten. Low carb & high protein.

I have PCOS, keto is the only thing that has helped me with my weight, insulin resistance, skin, facial hair growth, energy, migraines, depression and anxiety and a huge difference in periods (pain, length and clots)

Follow kelly leveque she’s a holistic nutritionist. I took a course with her and she went over a lot of FAQ’s others would ask. I don’t personally have any experience but as mentioned she talks a lot about it. It’s also helpful to read her books, 1.) body love
2.) body love everyday.

An anti-inflammatory diet is usually recommended. I take inositol to help with the symptoms of PCOS, infertility being one of them. I have tired to take a more natural approach to treating PCOS.

30 day Arbonne cleanse, it’s all about gut healthy and is NOT a diet. It’s meant to help you go as plant based as possible and choose lean and healthy meats in conjunction. Need your greens in arbonne or even with prime sports nutrition products. But arbonne greens are easier to get. Let me know if I can help. Plant based diet is great to start with them introduce leaner meats like turkey. Message me if I can help you further at certain stores too that may be accessible to you

I had gastric bypass and the diet you follow got my hormones balanced. Allot of veggies and lean protein, fruits in moderation and limit carbs and sugar.

Are you trying to lose weight? Is that a goal with said diet? Count your calories and exercise.

Keto helps me with my PCOS also dairy free and gluten free

Vitex agnus capsules in vitamin shoppe, it’s a herb and the best for pcos

Low carb and low sugar. Lots of fresh things, no processed junk. I have PCOS as well and basically follow a diabetic diet plan.

Lots of water and walking is what worked for me…diets never worked

When I was diagnosed, I joined weight watchers. I had a hard time with the whole wheat and fish, that’s just a personal taste issue though. But I lost 30+lbs with it and have had 2 healthy children naturally since. Good luck :four_leaf_clover::shamrock:

I’ve just seen a consultant for my PCOS and he recommended taking Inofolic alpha and also doing resistance training to help tone up the muscles as it reduces the chances of miscarriage in women with PCOS (I had a miscarriage 2 months ago). I hope this helps you! Also if you find it hard to loose weight they might put you on metformin.
