Seeking advice on carpal tunnel and pregnancy.
Is carpal tunnel really common in pregnancy?
I spoke to my doctor and told him I think I have carpal tunnel. He just told me it was part of pregnancy and kind of disregarded my concerns, didn’t offer advice, medication, or help. So I’ve been waking up in pain on my wrist and a numb thumb. Crying cause I’m scared to move it cause when I do it makes a popping sound that is painful and scary feels like as if I had dislocated my thumb and popped it back in place. I also get stiffness and popping painful sensation on my wrist elbow and shoulder. This is really scary and painfull and wondering if this really something part of pregnancy… Will it goes away? Idk what to do…

I have carpal tunnel. It got worse with pregnancy. The only thing that I could find for relief was a wrist brace… Medication, heating packs you name it didn’t work but braces do!

I got it my third trimester. I didn’t have it before.
If it’s carpal tunnels and it sounds to me like it could be there is not much the dr can do, I went to the chiropractor and got some relief from it when he adjusted me but mine did go away a few weeks after having the baby so I’d say it will more then likely go away when you have the baby
Mine did that and carpal tunnel has nothing to do with pregnancy. Ice it
I had it during pregnancy and it went away after I gave birth
Nerve glides will help as well. Try to not use repetitive wrist motions but rather the opposite of what you are doing. Example: if you find you are flexing your wrist often try performing more wrist extension.
I had it when I was pregnant with my son who is now 11. My Dr. recommended wrist braces, heat, & ice packs, but none of that ended up helping & it got so bad that I couldn’t even pick up a cup. I ended up getting induced 2 weeks early because of it. I hope you are able to find something to help with it. Good luck to you & baby.
You can get a brace for it and ice for 10 mins then heat for 10 minutes. Carpel tunnel doesn’t effect the elbow or shoulder so that may be another issue. They normally do surgery to fix it but I’d hold off on that while pregnant
It’s completely common during pregnancy! I never knew until my doctor told me. I got it during my second and third pregnancies. You need a hand brace for carpel tunnel. You can buy it at Walmart, Target, or like Walgreens for less than $15. It’s a complete life changer, especially at night.
Yes it’s normal. Had it with my first went away after birth and I am 37 weeks and 3 days with my second and I’ve had it since I was 30 week. Not much you can do but stretch and put your hands up to help blood flow. It should go away after pregnancy
I was one of the lucky women to have it during pregnancy. My OB just shrugged her shoulders when I told her about it and said it would be a 50/50 chance of going away after pregnancy. It didn’t go away. I still deal with it. Wrist braces from the drug store help. I use an oil called panaway from young living for it. I also use a roller they have called deep relief. I was told by my general physician a few months ago that she could recommend my to a specialist but all they would be able to offer is a cortisone shot or surgery. Surgery is a 50/50 shot of working.
Also, it went away both times after I delivered my babies! I’m pregnant again right now and so far haven’t had the carpel tunnel pain this time. It different for every pregnancy.
Mine started to go away a few days after birth and then 2 weeks pp it was completely gone!
Yes, it had it both wrists during my second pregnancy. It hurt a lot and made my wrists so weak that I could barely pick up my fifteen pound toddler. But it went away within six months of giving birth. Wearing a brace helped strengthen my wrist, but it always hurt

I believe it’s because the excess fluid in your body during pregnancy, which is normal. There wouldn’t be any safe medications during pregnancy. Cold compress will help A LOT. And a brace will help

A brace will help!
I’ve had it for years and always gets a lot worse during pregnancy!
I had it as well and agree with everyone about wearing a stabilizing wrist brace especially at night. Good luck!!
it’s very common, and it sucks the good news is that it goes away almost immediately after giving birth. you can use wrist braces for stability.

I had it from 4 months to delivery and even a month afterwards. Both arms numb and my entire right leg numb. It sure made that pregnancy fun! Lol there’s really not a whole lot you can do
It is i had it in my arm and my leg. So is sciattica, if things persist see a chiro
Carpal tunnel doesn’t involve or thumb or wrist going numb, it’s called dequievianstenosinovitis. Not sure if it’s spelled correctly and yes pregnancy can cause it. And doctors usually do steroid shots but not while your pregnant. It’s painful just rub it with bengay
I had carpal tunnel I my left hand that I could sleep or use my hand. I am right handed. It was caused from computer use. I had surgery cured the left hand. Was supposed to have right hand done but my IT guy got me an ergonomic keyboard and the problem gone.
Very common with pregnancy. I had it with both pregnancies.and as sion ad I had my babies, it went away. My last pregnancy I had to wear a brace because it was so bad.
Common. I had to do occupational therapy after I had my son. Brace wearing at night helps
I have carpal tunnel in both wrists. My left because I broke my wrist when I was younger and it never healed right. My right right developed a few years ago. It’s been really bad since I have been pregnant though. Like a constant pins and needles sensation when I use my hand or hold my hand in an upright position for more than a few minutes. I used to take ibuprofen for it before I was pregnant. Now all I can take is tylenol, but it doesnt help with the inflammation. So really all I can do is wear a brace and hope this helps.
I had this exact thing going on with my wrist (not pregnant tho) I had to go see an orthopedist I didnt have carpal tunnel I cant exactly remember the medical name but the tendons in your wrist are covered with like a jelly sleeve to keep them from wearing down running over bones and it became inflamed and it was sooo painful but they gave me a steroid shot in my wrist and the swelling inside went away and been pain free ever since go to your GP and tell them what’s going on they may give you a referral to ortho
Very normal had it with last pregnancy. …wrist ban helps out alot
Going thru that right now
I had it in both wrists, unfortunately it did not go away. I had the carpal tunnel release surgery in both hands and it’s fine now, well still recovering from the second
Yeah my shoulder from Workin in a chicken plant it’s been acting up it bc the tendons are loosening up
Wear the wrist braces to bed to keep them from pinching down on themselves. I’ve had it for nearly 20 years and finally getting it fixed (got mine from type of work I did) and it causes pain and numbness in the thumb and first 3 fingers but never had popping from it that is more likely the tendons in your thumb messing up.
I had bad carpal tunnel in my wrists. I normally fall asleep with my arm under my pillow and it would be tingling so bad that id wake up in the middle of the night. Even doing daily tasks it would go numb. It sucks, but totally normal! Get a wrist splint!
