What to do for teeth decay?

I believe my 2 year old is starting signs of a cavity/tooth decay. She drinks way more milk then she should (but most times it’s the only thing she will ever drink)… I’m making her an appt with a dentist… so we can get the problem fixed before it really gets started!

BUT she hates drs … and new people shes going to freak out when going and allowing them to do anything… her anxiety isnt the best… will they still see and treat her? Will they give her anything to relax her?

I feel like a horrible mom because she is having issues so early… but I wanna fix them asap but also dont wanna stress her out by going :sob::woman_facepalming:

Paediatric dentist!! They are trained to deal with children who are scared and whatnot.

Following. My 2 year old son is in the same boat. I try to brush his teeth and he puts up one hell of a fight. I try to get him to do it even just a little on his own but he refuses.

Try and find a local place that is good with kids, schedule a cleaning for yourself and have her come along. Let her take a turn sitting in the chair like mama! All the best of luck.

Oh lord! My 2 year old goes today for his first time!!

Go specifically to a pediatric dentist they are fast efficient amazing both my kids have TERRIBLE ANXIETY when it comes to the dentist and they are great with them
But I will tell you they are going to tell you to try and only give milk @ meal times I just recently had to take my 3 yr old and had to get several teeth pulled and I blame myself for allowing him to just constantly sip on milk

I always tell my kids a couple weeks before they go. Helps to ease the anxiety about it. I tell them what the dentist will do and what they have to do to help the dentist.

How old do you take them? As soon as they get teeth or not until they’re old enough to semi cooperate like 2?

I would go in without her and talk to the dentist and explain how she reacts. That way they are prepared for her.
I was unsure how my boys would react, they have a high sensitivity to noise. I let ours know that before and the noises actually didn’t bother them but they were prepared with headphones just incase.

I looked and read reviews of dentists in my area and picked one that sounded the best. The first time we went the hygienists played with my (very shy at first) boys and taught them about the tools they use and looked around their mouth without doing anything. We attempted xrays on my oldest and he wouldn’t cooperate, they were so kind about it. It ended up taking 3 different appointments to get all the necessary xrays done and they were so patient with my boys, even made them glove puppets to help distract them. Ask your local mom groups for dentists they’ve used and would recommend they’ll help steer you in the right direction

I know this isn’t tooth related, but my little girl is three. Absolutely refused to get her hair cut, screamed and threw the biggest tantrum ever, but she got a new dvd (mulan) and she cuts her hair, then a few days ago she said she wanted to cut her hair like mulan, so we got a trim and she was really good!! Maybe you could find something similar? Good luck xx

They will still treat her! You may have to help hold her though. My sons dentist took a quick look and said that he needed root canals from the bottle rot. She said she would examine his mouth better once he was put to sleep the day of the surgery, that way he won’t be scared and freaking out while they poke and prod

Unfortunately, we can’t avoid stressors. If you can minimize the stress you’re doing your mama job. Take her with you to a dentist and let her sit on your lap and watch. Call your local library and check out some storybooks about a trip to the dentist. Instead of expecting a meltdown, talk about what a wonderful privilege she’s getting, and how afterward you have a special treat planned if she acts right by {then list expected behaviors.} if she has a meltdown she will have to go home and rest instead of the treat. Don’t use that up front as a threat. If she gets frantic she will need rest afterward.

She will be alright. Maybe have a count down with her…something she can see and touch. Have her cross the days off, and when the day comes, she gets to see her tooth fairy helpers. They will make her teeth nice and shiny so that the tooth fairy is happy. Maybe get her a book about the dentist…read it with her every day. Take about how u go and have ur teeth cleaned and shiny to make the tooth fairy happy. I would also go into the office and talk to them. Let them know she is scared and see what they say. Im sure they are use to kids freaking out. Ita no big deal really. Tell her, maybe when the appointment is over, she can have a TOY or STUFFIE from the dollar store. I would also bring down the amount of milk maybe too. No milk before bed unless those teeth are brushed right after. Theres lots of sugars in milk.
