My babies stopped sleeping on their backs as soon as they could roll. Talked to my pediatrician about it and he said keep an eye and put them to sleep on their backs but it’s ok if they roll. Just make sure there’s nothing extra in the bed. (Pillows, blankets, plushies, etc.)

My son never liked sleeping on his back, he would only sleep on his stomach. I would put him on his back and then he’d end up on his stomach. I would just keep an eye on him

Its not good for babies to sleep on their tummy.
So I wouldn’t allow it.
You can start with tummy time I’d wait until they are a month. As well never leave them during that time

When they can roll over both ways by them selves all of the time but always put baby to sleep on their back, if they roll onto their stomach it is generally okay I would also make sure there is nothing else in the crib with them, no blankets or stuffies or pillows

My babies hated sleeping on their backs. Since the day I brought them home they slept on their tummy’s unless they were in the swing while sleeping. First was 10 days old when she came home and. Second was 18 days old when she came home. Third was 3 days old when he came home

Whenever you want them to. As long as you pay attention to your child and check on them periodically, they’ll be fine.

I know people who did it and it was ok, I always put mine on their side. It doesn’t really matter much, it’s just a choice.

Whenever they start crawling around so they don’t smother themselves

I always put my girls on their side, swapping back n forth every time I fed them, didn’t trust putting them on their back cause they can strangle on their spit up

I had one baby who cried if you put her to sleep on her back and another who would only sleep on her back. All different.

Sleeping on the stomach is the worst position. This why you as an adult sleep on their stomach. I deal with patients with all sore of neck and upper back problems because they sleep on their stomach.

All of my kids always did this and it made me so nervous

Mine slept on the tummy since I was told by the doctor that is what you so, so they don’t choke of spicy up. My grand babies were the generation that they had to be on their back, so when I had them taking a nap while I would sit with them, I put them on their tummy and they slept fine - they didn’t have that startle reflex when on their back.

I was always told once they could roll over themselves. My kids were & still are side sleepers. They hated sleeping on their backs as babies!

Not really until they can hold themselves up and flip themselves over. I used a side sleeper wedge for all of my kiddos and they loved that.

My boys all slept on their stomachs as well…but they are all in their late thirties and forties. We were very lucky that we didn’t loose one to SIDS. Many parents were not as lucky as us. Talk to your babies doctor! There is strong evidence that sleeping on their back greatly reduces the chance of a baby dying of SIDS.

I was an infant teacher in NC for a long time and the rules in child care are there to try to avoid SIDS deaths. Under 6 months, they have to sleep on their backs. Over 6 months, we can get parents to sign a waiver saying that they can assume whatever sleeping position is best for them. These are state regulations and cannot be changed, except for medical conditions.

My Babies & Grandchildren always slept on their tummies

U are never supposed to let a baby sleep on they stomach sleeping on they back is the safest way

I let mine sleep on their stomachs :person_facepalming::person_shrugging:
They slept on me anyway for a month or so
So once i could see they could lift their head and turn it on their own then i let them sleep in their bed on their tummy

If you go back to the 80s, pediatricians recommended placing babies on their stomachs to sleep. Both my children slept on their stomachs with no ill effects.

When they can get there by themselves.

Both mine have slept on their belly’s since they were 2 weeks old.

When baby can lift its head

When they are able to turn themselves over and in a crib without blankets, toys etc.

When they roll over but always lay down on backs

When they can lift their heads or change positions

Doctors recommend when they can turn themselves over on their stomach.

The pediatrician just told us the other day its fine for our four month old to cause she already rolling her self over

When they can already lift their heads and move it sideways

my grandson decided on his own

All my kids and grandchildren slept on their tummy from the get go because I had a cousin who died from aspirating their vomit as a baby, so I never put them on their back ever

My son left the hospital sleeping on his stomach. It’s literally the only way he will sleep. 7-1/2 months old now😊

when they can roll that way on their own u put them to sleep on back and if they roll to their stomach by theirselves they are fine

My kids are in their 40’s & 50’s now and they all slept on their tummies even before turning over. Just made sure their airways weren’t hindered by sheets or blankets & their heads were turned to the side.

When they start rolling over on their own.
