Hey mamas! I have a 6 month old boy who is not sitting up on his own yet. I know that some babies start sitting up later than others so I’m not worried. But I would like to know if there are exercises I can do with him to help teach him to sit up and to help strengthen his muscles. I’ve had him sit in his Boomba chair, he does tummy time but his tummy is big and he doesn’t put his knees on the ground when he’s on his tummy, and we’ve helped balance him when he’s sitting up. What advice do y’all have? Any videos I can watch? Thanks!

A bumbo set really doesn’t help according to my daughter physically therapist. A yoga ball will help with the core muscles. Sit him on it and tilt him front and back a side to side. Not far just enough for him to catch himself.

Don’t use those bumbo seats. There was a study done that it’s bad for a baby’s pelvis cuz of the way it forces them to sit. Use a boppy or a bouncer. Or even prop them up on the couch.

Use a boppy pillow. It helped my daughter learned to sit
Tummy time is best, do it a couple times throughout the day. Also agree with Holly, I used pillows to help prop him up, nothing fancy just pillows from the couch or used his boppy. He’ll get there!

My lil girl is 5 months and won’t roll over by herself, it kinda has me worried. I feel like she will be sitting up before she rolls. You’re doing everything right babies do it when they r ready. I sit on floor with mine with pillows in front and behind and hold her hands. I let go and she tries to stay up and then she tries to sit up by herself. It will come before u know it.
I put mine sit up in the corner of the lounge (obversly I was sitting with them)
I put a comforter over a circular laundry basket and put my kiddo in there. Within a day both my kids were sitting up in their own. I would put toys in their laps and just let them play in the laundry basket. Worked wonderful for when I had to cook and clean
My six month old has not rolled yet. He can sit up with minimal support but not for a long time. After a minute or so he falls. He likes to be on his feet with our help of course, so I think he will walk before doing anything else
My youngest could crawl before he sat up
Nanna here…we used a pillow off the bed tied around to the front same concept as the boppy pillow,it protects them but lets them use there own muscles to correct themselves…but most of all enjoy being mummy and try not to worry…yeah i know easier said than done…
I had him just sit on my lap & I would lean back giving him practice with those muscles. He is almost 7m now can sit up but forgets & throws himself back lol so this is still the safest way for him lol
Maybe try calling early intervention. I’ve had them involved since my twins were 3 months old. They’re now 16 months. They help so much
I set them on my knees, hold their hands and bounce them. (Giddy-up) Like bull/horse riding the object is to stay on. All of my babies/grandbaby enjoyed it, I enjoy it, we laugh. I have never let them fall, only tilt bit it does strengthen their core muscles and try spreading babies legs just a bit while sitting and letting them use their arms in between to balance. Also, you can’t rush perfection, baby will do everything they’re supposed to when it’s their time. Good luck Mama
Boppy pillow, sit him up with you on the couch or in your lap and when he’s laying down try to get him to hold your fingers and try to pull himself up while you help
Was thinking of getting a water mat for this one to work on more tummy time and strengthening the core sooner.
Or…babies do things at their own pace. Don’t force it, he will get there.
The boomba does the work for him and doesn’t use his muscles. Don’t use that.
My aunt is a physical Therapists for babies and she said that is the number one thing they say not to use
The Boomba seats don’t help to sit up, engaging his core muscles do.
Mine were 7-9 months before they sat up by themselves, they’re all different. Baby will do it when he’s ready, don’t stress
