What age do you think kids should stop taking naps. My stepdaughter will be 3 in December and I still make her take a nap in the afternoon she will fight me for almost an hour but than sleeps for 2-3 and still goes to bed at 10 with pretty much no problem. But I have an issues with her mom who doesn’t think she needs nap. And her dad saying he won’t make her take them after she turns 3. But keep in mind I watch 7 days a weeks from morning to bed time than she goes to her moms house and spends every other 2 nights with us. I have her a very large amount of time compared to both her mom and dad. Her dad my husband works 12+hours 3rd shift. So personally he doesn’t really know what she needs because he sleeps during the day and I do everything which is fine. But yeah In conclusion what age did you stop making them take naps at a specific time?
Mine just took naps on their own. See how she is without one and take it from there.
I stopped forcing my son to take naps around 2 1/2-3.
Never.lol Most kids take them in kindergarten and first grade.
We stopped at 3.5. Luckily your child is able to go back to sleep but in daycare we were having the problem of him taking a 2.5 hour nap and then going to bed at 11:30 pm. It was “required” by the government. I ended up taking him out of school for 2.5 hours so he would go to bed on time because we are working parents and need to be at our jobs in the AM and also need our sleep.
Maybe stop giving her a nap and move bed time to 8pm so she gets used to a school schedule
My nephew still takes naps and he’s 3 they will have naps in headstart if she goes so I’d continue it because they do make them take naps.
I’d drop the nap and make her bedtime 8pm
My son was 1 when he dropped naps, his schedule.
My daughter will be 4 in August and gets CRABBY without naps. She naps around 2pm-3pm and sleeps until about 530 and still goes to bed fine at 830. I think it just depends on the kiddo.
My kids stopped around 2-3 years old. Sometimes they’ll take one if they have a big day but rarely
My oldest is 4.5 and still takes them.
My 4 year old stopped when she was ready. I do not force her to nap. Her bed time is 7:30pm every night.
My kids were all about 5
Omg let them nap until they literally can’t my son stopped at 4yrs 9 mos bc he just wasn’t tired but I made him until I agreed lol
My son just turned two and I can barely get him to nap anymore
Keep doing what works for you on your time. You’re in charge. It sucks not having consistency but you can’t control what they do on their time. On days she doesn’t nap out her to bed 2 hours earlier. She should still sleep the same amount of hours in a 24 hours period. It may be worth saving yourself the hour fight and her having an earlier bedtime
My 5 year old still naps. She goes to 4k half days & comes home & naps for a hour in a half or so most days. If she doesn’t she’s unbearable by supper time. She still goes to bed around 8 each night w/ no issue. My youngest is almost 2 & naps about 3 hours per day.
My son hasn’t napped since he was about 2 he’s almost 4 now. The only time he naps if he’s poorly. He goes to bed at 7 asleep around 8/8.30 and wakes up around 7 am
Mine probably around 2. If he naps he will be up half the night. Unless something unusual, like he’s sick or super busy day.
The still take naps in some school. So thats how I base my step daughters. Naps are good. Helps them grow and develop!
Drop the nap and enjoy the evenings to yourself! You’ll be great full after the transition that you don’t have to fight with her everyday and can have quiet evenings long before 10 pm!!!
My kids are 7,5, & 2 and they all still nap. My 7yr old only naps on weekends. My 5yo naps everyday noon-230 and my 2yo naps everyday sometimes it’s a morning nap sometimes an afternoon nap (preschool in between) and all of my kids go to bed at 8pm and are awake by 6am
Well prek makes them nap but k doesnt so i say 4.5-5 bc regardless they in prek they make them
I am old I still want a nap
Sounds like it depends on the child. If she gets cranky during the day then she still needs her naps
My daughter will be 2 next week and she hasn’t napped since she was a year old.
My 5 year old still naps and will continue to until around 6 probably
I wouldn’t necessarily make her take a nap, just tell her she has to lay quietly. Mine usually fell asleep.
I mean, I remember being forced to have nap time in kindergarten still so I’d say kids stop taking naps around the age of 6.
My son is 3. We cut naps at 2. He goes to bed between 8 and 9 and wakes up about 8.
My daughter stopped taking regular naps around 2.5/3 yo. She’ll be up all day with no problem and goes to bed around 830. If she takes a nap its usually late in the day/evening and then she would stay up literally ALL NIGHT. Like 11/12 even after trying to put her in bed around 930.
My daughters 3 dropped naps at about 2, goes to bed at 7, doesn’t sleep through yet but getting there! Drop that nap and enjoy time to yourselves!
I eliminated naps at 1 1/2
Stop letting the child stay up to 10. Ehrn she starts school she will need a good night sleep. Stop the naps now. She will last till 7 or 8 and that is the proper bedtime.
Mine napped through age 3.5
I stopped st 15 mo. Son goes to bed at 7 pm every night . wakes up 7 am or later
I took away my son’s naps at 1.5 years old. No naps equal easy bedtimes. And 10 o clock? Might want to rethink that for when school starts.
My 1 and 2 year old only take a nap if they want or need one which is hardly ever
Ur not the mom u get no say so. If the actual mom and dad don’t want her to take a nap then u need to.listen to them and stop letting her take a nap. It doesn’t matter what u want at all
I just stopped woth youngest hes 2 and a half if he decides to take one it usually aroumd noon for an hour and goes to bed at 9 those nights if not he goes down at 7:30 8 wakes up at 8 every morning I like early bed times I get to unwind before I go to bed and take time to kick my feet up and watch a movie or play on my phone
My niece is in daycare and will be 4 this october and and they do nap time there for the whole daycare from 12pm-3pm
It just depends on the kid🤷♀️my 5 year old still naps and goes to bed by 8, and is usually out within 30 minutes. The naps will probably stop soon though because kindergarten here doesn’t have them nap. You use your judgement and decide what works best for you and yours.
Your stepmom, not mom. Do what mom says.
Each of my 4 cut out naps around 2 1/2 or so. If they were tired enough they would fall asleep on their own when needed but more often then not no naps and in bed by at least 8pm
My son is 3 and don’t take naps much anytime… if she isn’t tired don’t force it just means bedtime would be slightly earlier than 10… a lot of kids out grow naps
Mine are 3 and 4. Stopped naps about a yr ago other than every once in a while
My 4 yr old stopped napping at 3 but he still gets quiet time in his room. Sometimes he needs a nap though and I let him take a nap. My 2 1/2 yr old still takes a 2 sometimes 3 hour nap everyday. He needs them or he’s miserable by 5pm.
Pretty sure mom and dad have final say…
My SS is 6 and he still naps. They do rest time at school with all the kindergartners
No naps at 3… if she falls asleep let her but 10pm is not a bedtime for a 3 year old… 8pm max.
Summer before Kindergarten. So 5.5
I’m grown n I still miss naps lol but then again I have 3 kids lol but in all seriousness, the kid will let you know. My 9 year old still likes to nap on weekends. My 5 year old don’t nap and my almost 2 year old still naps
Both my daughter’s had stopped taking naps well before 3. Youngest was not quite 2 and eldest was just over 2 but they were in bed y 7 -7.30pm and slept through to 6-7am.
My daughter is five and still takes a nap.
All my kids stopped at 18 months
All kids are different. I stopped nap time with my oldest at a year old otherwise, even a half hour nap, my son would not sleep at all at night
If you have her at naptime, give her a nap if you think she needs it. If her parents don’t like it, tell them to find a new babysitter. My 3, almost 4 year old, still takes a nap everyday. At daycare they take them everyday until they quit going and start school.
My son is 3 1/2 and still naps. He’ll fight it for a half hour or so. Hes a little hellion when he doesnt have his nap.
Some schools still doing nap time in pre-k and some still doing throughout kindergarten
They used to have dedicated nap time in kindergarten classes… just putting that out there. I would play it by ear, my best friends daughter is almost 3 and she naps for 2-3 hours in the afternoon.
If she doesn’t nap and is a complete brat then she still needs one… but if she’s fine then don’t force it
She would need a nap if stopping up til 10! Bring bedtime forward and they wouldn’t need to be a nap
I’m 38 and still napping. Rest is good. That’s why people live so long in Italy LOL
If you’re watching her the majority of the time then do whatever you feel is right. My kids don’t generally nap when they’re with me or their dad but they do at my mother in laws and I don’t mind because she watches them while we work.
My son was 3 when he stopped but went to bed at 8pm every night when he stopped ! And he has since
My son is 4 if he naps during the day hes up allllll night long
My aunt made us at least “rest” until we were like 8,9,10 years old. And most times we would fall asleep anyway lol. My kid is a terror without a nap and she’s 3. And they do all kinds of studies on sleep and they say all the time that it’s great for you to at least take a short nap or just rest a little while.
10pm is not a bed time for a 3yr old. Should be 730 or 8. Maybe 2 hr nap. I never forced my kids unless they where crabby. When she goes to school they don’t have nap time anymore in pre school or kindergarten
She needs naps, trust me
I’m 55 and still take a nap if needed
My 1, 2 and 4 year olds all still take a nap. But I don’t force them too. They lay down when they’re tired or sit and watch a cartoon until they fall asleep but it’s on their own time. I don’t force them to take a nap I used to with my daughter at 1 but beyond that if they’re sleepy they’ll take a nap. My daughter, 4, also has rest time at school and she gladly lays down and naps for them. Every child is different. I just wouldn’t really force her to take a nap. And try for an earlier bed time maybe.
I took naps till I started school.
I’d say right before going to Kindergarten. Sleep is necessary to growth. Don’t rush them to grow up! Just
my opinion.
My house my rules. If cranky give her a nap. I agree bedtime for 3 year old should be earlier than 10 pm.
My daughter is two and half and is still taking naps.
But it’s not every day.
It’s probably a nap here or there every couple of days. She’s growing out of them.
But hell i’m 26 and still take naps.
My four year old still naps 2 plus hours a day and goes to bed at 7. He wakes up about 6:30am.
You have the child majority of the time so therefore, you know her. You are still a parent. Do what you feel is best. Arguing over taking a nap is ridiculous. If she’s sleeping good at night like you say, she still needs it.
My son is 5 and still takes naps. If he doesn’t he is the crankiest 5 year old I’ve ever known. He doesn’t like doing it but always says he feels better after. Plus, I’ve been told by doctors sleep is an important part of their development and growth. It allows their bodies/minds to rest. He also has a 7:30 pm bed time since he’s always up by 6:30 am. So yes, he takes earlier naps. This schedule insures he gets the rest he needs.
My daughter stoped at 2yo. Her Dr said that it was fine because she slept enough at night and that was the age some kids stop napping. When she’s at pre-k and its nap time she sits there quietly and looks at books or colors or whatever. She also isn’t grumpy or anything without nap so thats why she doesn’t get one.
Bed time should be 7:30-8:30 not 10 fo a 3 year old, my 6 year old is in bed by 9. What time does she wake up in the mornings? My son is 3 gets up every morning no later than 7 and is bed by 7:30- 8:15 every night. No naps and no issues
I don’t really know my kids stop taking nap on their own so I don’t see the problem if the kid still go to sleep at a decent time if she needs a nap why not but you saying she fighting so I guess she so not need one
I at 54 occasionally need a nap (usually Sunday afternoon to get ready for the week ahead, my day of rest). My parents transitioned us as we started school to 730pm bed so we could be well rested for school during the week. I have 3 son 1 chicken rises early no need for alarm great student(like me). The other 2 are like my husband and my dad-Owls, wake late and slow, always late, work well with their hands usually 2nd or 3rd shift suits best. Each child is unique but signs of needing rest wining, fighiting, cryining… then the opportunity must be provided to rest. Sooo many studies even for adults say 20 min cat nap = greater productivity! More than 2 hrs equils change in circadian rythm and health and sleep pattern disturbances.
My 2 year old really doesn’t nap anymore so on those days she goes to bed early. If she’s crabby threw the morning I lay her down for a afternoon nap and if she doesn’t fall asleep in 45 mins I just dont make her nap.
My daughter is about to turn 4 and she still attempts a nap during the day.
Let her just lay and rest, at a set time, for a set time. If she sleeps, great. If not, ok. Not all kids, after 3, need naps. Some do. If she’s tired she’ll sleep.
My daughter napped until just before she started school. Then I gave her an earlier bedtime. School wore her right out so she was ready for bed by 7 and slept right through. If you do away with her naps ( my little girl needed them) i would definitely give her an earlier bedtime. They really need their sleep at that age.
Each kid is differnt but 10 is a late bedtime for a 3 y/o. If she didn’t nap she would go to bed at 8. Everyday could be different too. Played a lot… Needs a nap. Had a lazy day… No nap.
From what I’ve read 3 is when they stop and if she is fighting you that hard I wouldn’t force her
I would definitely cut the nap if she’s not going to sleep until 10. My kids were all 2, once I cut their naps they slept 7pm-8am
5 was when mine stoppes
My daughter ONLY napped at that age when she was in school
Summer she never naps otherwise she’d be up late
Like ya know 10 pm. She went to bed at 830 and slept until 630-730 every day.
Each child is different. My 1st grader still takes about a 45 min nap. If you know the schedule, and it works where she isn’t exhausted or over sleeping then you do you. I have my bonus son who will be 5 this year, and he still naps for almost 2 hours and his bed time is 9pm. And he’s out like a light each time.
Even 6 year olds need naps.
Never. They should always nap no matter what age
They nap if they are cranky, tired, etc. Doesnt matter how old!
My daughter is 3 and still naps if she doesnt nap she will be in a very bad mood the rest of the day
My kids are 3&4 and still mostly take a 2/3hr nap & sleep 8pm-7am
If she doesn’t wanna nap and u gotta fight with her to nap, then I wouldn’t bother. My almost 2 yr old very rarely takes naps. She’s usually up for 12 hours straight without a nap. Usually a nap before 1pm is good. If it’s after that, then ima be up til 10 or even later. Let her sleep when she’s ready but remember if she naps late, bed time will be rough.
I quit making mine take naps after she finished prek. They dont make them take naps in kindergarten here. Even if she didnt sleep she still had to relax and lay there for at least an hour.
My daughter’s almost 3.5 and still glady takes a 2 hour nap daily.
