When is it ok to stop breastfeeding?

I’m going back to work soon and i am wondering whether it’s safe for me to stop breastfeeding because I’m not a fan of pumping and really don’t have a private place to as work. My little one is 6 months old

It’s best when both you and baby are ready, but when every you decide is okay!

Whenever you’re ready. Formula is perfectly fine for babies if breastfeeding doesn’t fit into your lifestyle.

Whenever you’re ready. The WHO recommends breastfeeding until 2 years if you can but you have to do what works for you. There are so many benefits that come with breastfeeding so the longer the better, still your choice though. If you do stop breastfeeding you’ll need to move formula as it still needs to be their main source of nutrition for the first year

If you transition to formula try mixing the two so it’s not so hard on babies tummy :purple_heart:

I tried pumping with both of mine. Also not a fan and couldn’t keep up. I went to formula buy 3 months with both of them. Whatever works for you is fine. As long as baby is fed and healthy it doesn’t matter.

The WHO recommends breast milk for the first year at least whether that’s through pumping or breastfeeding

Formula is safe, I wasmt able to breastfeed at all… my chunky little baby is doing just fine, I’d probably transition tho slowly

You can stop whenever you are ready! Six months is great! At least you did it that long some women won’t even try! You can slowly start introducing formula whenever you want.

Wow to all you people who are making her feel guilty for wanting to stop! Its her choice and screw what who recommends, my kids are just fine and maybe got 12 oz of breastmilk their whole lives… children do survive with formula, it doesn’t harm them in any way!

6 weeks gives them s good start so 6 months is great.

Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”) requires employers to provide reasonable break time & place for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for up to 1 year after the child’s birth.
Make your decision based YOUR personal needs, but please know your employer HAS to provide you with this.

Whenever you’re ready darling. Don’t you let anybody tell you what’s right/wrong for you and your baby. You do you, lovely :kissing_heart:

Yes, it is safe.
If you want to, you can combination feed. You can breastfeed when you and baby are together and supplement with formula during times of separation.
If part of your worry is about your job not giving you a proper place to pump, you should know that they have to by law. Nursing women are protected in the workplace. They have to allow you breaks to express milk when your child would normally feed. They also have to give you a clean and private space that is not a bathroom. It has to be free from intrusion and you have to be completely free of work duty. You can request a nursing mothers accommodation through HR, like you would for FMLA or anything else.
You just make whatever decision is best for you. If you’re going to stop nursing 100%, make sure to do it slowly, not cold turkey. You don’t want to end up engorged… that can lead to mastitis and is very painful.

I didn’t breastfeed but what I learned from a speech therapist that at 6 months to start sippy cups straws and open mouth cups to improve speech maybe nows a good time to introduce all that

I am no longer pumping at work (my son is 14 months) but we still breastfeed at home. Just because you don’t want to pump doesn’t mean it has to be all or nothing. There is nothing wrong with breastfeeding when together and giving formula what daycare.

Its your baby and your body mama. You can do what you are the most comfortable with as long as your babies are fed they are okay. The fact that you did it for 6 months is amazing. When I went back to work I still breastfed when I was home and pumped only when it hurt so bad at work that I couldn’t take it anymore. I breastfed my oldest that way for a year

Slowly wean your boobs otherwise they gonna hurt like heck if you stop cold turkey

Whenever you are ready. I was only able to breastfeed both of my kiddos for the 1.5-2 months, I did not produce enough milk to keep them both satisfied. So they were almost exclusively bottle fed after 2 months. They’re 6 & 7, never a single issue.

As a M/B nurse, you breastfeed for as long as you want. Don’t let people tell you , you ‘have to’ breastfeed for this long. !! If you want to stop, stop , if you want to continue, continue. It’s your baby & your decision & yours alone. As long as the the baby is healthy & gaining wt & is happy. You do what makes you happy

In the US workplaces have to provide a safe place to pump, but yes you can hardest will be babeis stomach tolerance and money… good luck and good job

Fed is best! So anytime!

I hated pumping too. One child nursed for the whole year and my youngest weaned herself at 6 months to a cup so she could be like her big sister! She did love her pacifier to soothe her to sleep though!

When you and your baby are both ready… I breastfed my son for 15 months I would have gone longer but my husband decided to introduce him to the 360 cup and he was hooked after that…

You can always supplement with formula. I did this with my second! Initially I was “full” at work but my body adjusted and I could make it the day without pumping.

You don’t have to stop breastfeeding because you are going back to work (unless of course you actually are ready to), your body is an amazing thing–the breasts will adjust to whatever schedule you are on, even if just twice a day is still extremely beneficial for both of you. Many women nurse when they get up, just before work, then right after work and at bedtime, and at least once during the night(is completely normal and healthy for baby and you). You may want to start changing gradually now to get you and baby used to the new schedule. I do want to add that every workplace is required by LAW to provide you with time and a place to pump if you want to do that.

You can stop whenever you want too. There’s nothing wrong with switching to formula. As long as you’re feeding your baby, you’re doing your job.

The baby is no longer protected by the antibodies in breast milk after 6 months. It’s ok to stop or breastfeed at home and supplement with formula while you are working.

It’s ok to stop whenever u feel. Don’t let others she u for making a decision that works best for you.

Remember that many women never nurse at all, which is totally fine…think you’re good to quit whenever you want!

Check with your doctor

It is totally your choice when to stop and sometimes the baby’s or your body’s choice. No one can tell you what is right or wrong for you and your baby

It’s okay to stop breastfeeding whenever you want! I commend you for even trying because it is very hard work. Keep up the great work mama and remember there’s no shame in choosing when to stop breastfeeding❤

Whenever you need to.

When ever you are ready. Just begin introducing bottles and wean gradually over a couple of weeks at least so that
your baby and your body have time to adjust to the changes

When ever you want to stop.

When ever you are ready.

Whenever you feel like you’re ready! Nobody can tell you when you can or can’t stop.

You do whatever you need to do, and don’t let anyone judge you for it. Just remember, a baby needs formula or breast milk until they are 1, so if you stop breastfeeding, make sure you switch to formula.

Whenever you want. End of story. It’s no one’s business but yours and your baby will be just fine!

Its totally fine to stop when you are ready. Personally, i would find her a good formula before stopping if you can. That way you don’t have to worry and you know she will take it. Babies need formula or breastmilk until their first birthday!

It is only acceptable to stop nursing on the second Tuesday of the month. Any month is fine, as long as it’s the second Tuesday. Also, none of that is true. Stop when you need to, as long as your baby can be fed in other ways. Donor milk. Formula. Medium rare steaks. You got this👌🏼

Do what works for you your family and lifestyle. Don’t ever apologize.

It’s perfectly ok to stop when u feel u have had enough🤷🏼‍♀️

By law they must provide you a private place for pumping. I know that doesn’t answer the question but just saying.

If your ready to stop then stop. Theirs no rule that says you have to breastfeed for soo long. My sister formula fed from day 1 with both of her boys and they are completely happy and healthy. I stopped breastfeeding by 3 months with both of my girls for allergies and they are growing like weeds. A fed baby is a happy baby so you do what you want mama and dont let anyone make you feel guilty

Ya it’s not a matter of safety it’s your comfortability. Weaning can be a process. If you go too fast you can come down with mastitis.

It’s ok to stop at any time. U can also do both. Breast and bottle. I did that with all my son’s. Weaned them all at different ages from 3mth to 17 mths. Make sure u find a formula that agrees with your baby’s tummy.

You can stop at any time but start mixing formula into the babies diet first to make sure, as far as safety just make sure you dont end up with clogged ducts or giant hard lumps

i think a lil after a year is good to stop.

Whenever you want. I had to exclusively pump because my daughter was a preemie and wouldn’t latch… I hated every damn minute of it. Eventually let my milk dry up after 2 or 3 weeks and was SO much happier!

When you are ready. No explanation neccessary.

Whenever you want. Breastfeeding is an option. There is no limit set saying how long you have to breast feed.

It’s completely safe to stop at any time. You absolutely need to do what works for you and your baby. Don’t let anyone pressure or guilt you into a decision you’re not comfortable with.

With my 1st I breastfed until he was 1 and with my twins I stopped at around 8 months… whenever you and baby are ready

There is no rule to when to stop. I was only able to breast feel both my girls for a few weeks. With my first I didnt produce enough and my second was born so small (5lbs 6oz) her liver wasnt cycling it through her system. They have been formula fed and are 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 and are doing great.

It’s ok to stop whenever 6 months is great :+1:t5:.
If having a place at work to pump is the main reason then I just want to there out there that legally a job has to provide a private place to pump/nurse and has to allow for pumping breaks.

Whenever you want :slightly_smiling_face: when I went back to work I started mix feeding! I stopped producing as much milk and so I didn’t really need to express
So much easier because my partner can just give her formula bottles and at night I can feed her :slightly_smiling_face: whatever works best for you xxx
