When did you introduce your baby to food? I started my first at like 5 months (BLW) and I think I messed up by doing it so early. She delt with constipation issues for like 3 years. I’ve got an almost 5 month old now and I’m wondering if 6 months is the best time to start?
I’ve started all 4 of mine at 4 months. But only veggies and some fruit
I did lentil pastes, and veg at 4 months, his 7months now and eats anything like a grown man we buy the 10month+ baby snacks for him and all
I’d just introduce spoon full at time soft vegetables or fruit and gradely more each day
4 month with my first she was absolutely fine with it and it was about the same with my youngest but I would only give her baby pouches, I struggle to push myself to give her any proper food type because my eldest choked when she she was 4 a few years ago and stopped breathing etc so it scared me like crazy. And now she’s 3 and she’s a really fussy eater but that is down to me not her! She struggles to pass through the back she has done since about 7/8 month old and still struggles now she screams when trying and it takes her a few days to do it
4 months for both of ours. One was under weight and we had to supplement breast with formula and so the intro to solids was pretty easy. The other kid was a chonk and already eats like a hungry teenager at 2 so he just wanted what we had all the time anyway.
Old wives tale in my family that my mom told me was when your baby has their teeth buds like the top front and bottom front so like those first four teeth that’s when you start with food food because that’s a sign at the body is ready for more solid food because it has teeth.
AAP recommendation is 4-6 months with the signs of readiness. And their ped should give the green light.
My son’s pediatrician recommended we start at 4 months. He cried anytime I tried to feed him. I kept trying every couple weeks and he was finally ok with it at 6 months. It’s up to you and your child whatever your comfortable with.
They say food before one is just for fun, so I think wait at LEAST until 6 months, especially since your older one had trouble.
All of mine was 4 months farewell can consterpate them so be really careful
4 months on some veggies and fruit. Waiting 6 months is a little much
We did pureed food til 6 months, then we went to BLW foods. I always added in a probiotic for babies, which helps with gut health. It may not have even been the food your first little had, may have just been the way their gut was. If this one experiences constipation after introducing food, talk with pediatrician about a probiotic and get them in with a chiropractor. Sounds weird, but sometimes a baby’s spine/nerves can be misaligned (from being in the tummy, odd sleeping positions ect) and having them regularly go to a chiropractor can ease constipation, gas, fussiness, and relax all of their body.
After 6 months…ideally when sitting unassisted, crawling, etc.
Pediatricians say 6mos. Also BLW should not be introduced until your baby can sit up independently on their own unassisted, if your baby did that at 5mos then great otherwise you should wait.
My son weighed just under 9 lbs and cried in the nursery. The Dr said that boy is hungry…… feed him. It worked and he did great.
I am, personally, waiting til baby can sit up unassisted. Their digestive tract is then able to process foods better due to developmental milestone (sitting) aiding in the digestion.
The best time is when baby is showing signs of readiness and you are comfortable. I started all of mine on small amounts of extremely thin Ed out cereal at 2-4 months (with pediatrician approval) and baby foods at 4 months. Table solids by 6 months. They were all showing signs of readiness and needing those extra calories though, Dr gave approval and I was comfortable introducing. We took it slow and offered 1 option a week.
I don’t think starting at 5mths caused the constipation. Just make sure your BLW is about fruit and vegetables. See what your baby wants to do. Mine started stealing food at five months
6 months AND all signs of readiness. I made the same mistake and delt with bathroom issues with my first 2. “Still do” Third child We waited and he never had bathroom problems.
Never ever ever before 6 months.
When their stomach muscles are strong enough to sit up without assistance. So around 6 months.
Your daughter may have had digestive issues because her digestive track didn’t have a chance to develop fully. It’s like when you break your leg but don’t stay off it so it can heal. You could suffer from pain from it never had a chance to get strong enough. These digestive issues can last a lifetime. Be patient, don’t rush baby to grow up, enjoy her at her developmental level.
For my oldest two, my pediatrician recommended rice/cereal (made extremely runny) in their bottles starting at 3 months. But they (twins) were premies and he wanted them to put on some weight.
For baby food, it was between 4-6 months, depending on what they would actually take.
You want to introduce one food at a time though, until you can verify no allergies or issues. After a week on one baby food, with no issues, you can move on to the next.
Pediatrician !!! Baby systems need time to develop Do not start food too early
