When should you switch your kid to a high back booster?

Hey mamas, when did you feel it was safe to switch your babes from a 5 point harness to a high back booster? Is it safe to keep them in the 5 point harness until they can sit without a seat at all?

My son was 5 1/2 and my daughter was 6. My youngest is 3 so still in a 5 point. My son is 10 now and still in a backless booster. He’s like an inch too short to be without it lol we’ve tried and the seatbelt didn’t fit properly so we are waiting a bit longer for that

As long as weight and height fits the 5pount then you can keep them in harness. I personally moved all 3 of mine into boosters around 5-6. They were all 3 bigger kids and sat/traveled appropriate in booster. As long as belt sits where it is suppose to and child will sit up still and straight the whole time then you can switch them. It’s more about height, weight and maturity level to sit still like they need to than age.

It’s more about maturity for the booster. They should rear face until they reach the maximum limits of their rear facing convertible, but there isn’t a significant safety difference between a booster and a 5pt harness forward facing so long as the child is old enough to sit properly for the entire ride, even when sleeping! It is 100% safe to max out the harness limits too!

My son was in a high back booster until he was 7 and a backless booster until he was 10. He’s 11 now.

My son has just turned 4 and is 19kg, so longerable to do 5 point harness in his carseat so is now in a high back booster, daughter is 8 and still in a high back booster, follow the weight or height requirements for the car seat

My son was almost 8 by the time he switched to a high back booster. I don’t mess with car seat safety

When they outgrown the 5 point and are mature enough to sit properly 100% of the time you can switch to a high back and then a low back booster. MANY switch deadly early.

Following!! Have been wondering the same thing.

When their height and weight call for it.

General rule. Weight and how it fits is so key

My granddaughter switched at 5.

Different laws for different states. Look up your state laws. Also look at your car seat weight limits

There are laws for this. Look it up

Until they max out the limits of the 5 point harness which is 65 lbs… (not sure of height) … which is usually 6-7-8 years old.
Minimum, child has to be at least 5 years old, over 40 lbs, and can sit perfectly, the ENTIRE ride. Even when asleep. Any type of slouching, leaning etc means they aren’t ready. Most kids aren’t mature enough until after 6 years old.

I switched on my car when she outgrew the harness by height. She’s had a backless booster in my husband’s car since 8 because she could stay properly seated. Didn’t switch from high back to backless in my car until a few months ago, she turned 11 in May.

My oldest was a little over 5 when we switched to the booster and he was in that until he was nearly 9. Every state has laws but you need to go by their height and weight. If your child is still in a 5 point, you don’t even need to be thinking about them sitting with nothing at all
