Why would my cats start peeing everywhere?

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. My cats (I have 2) have had no issues with using the litter box for years. All of a sudden, the past 2 ish months, they’re peeing on EVERYTHING. My couch my clothes, my daughter’s clothes, blatantly pooping on the litter catcher rug outside of the clean litter box. I don’t know what to do!!

When did you last replace the whole pan? Are they declawed? Have you taken them to the vet? Are you using scented litter? What happened in their life right before they started. How close is the box to a window or doorway? Do you have stray animals or wildlife around your yard?

Also how old are the kitties? How tall are the boxes?

I would definitely schedule them for a vet visit. They could be trying to tell you something is wrong. They can’t talk, obviously, so when something is wrong they tell us through behavior.

Definitely get them checked for a UTI.
But also , discuss it with your vet while you’re there

I had a problem with one of my cats doing both 1 & 2 in my kitchen.

Took her to the vet. Said it could be stress. They also asked how many litter boxes I had. At the time I thought one per cat was enough. The vet said for every one cat. You should have 2 boxes.

I added one more to laundry room. 3 now in there. Along with one where she was deciding to go in my kitchen (:face_vomiting:I know)

But each week I moved it slowly closer to my laundry room. She now is back to using the litter boxes in the laundry room… (Thank God)

Sounds like a medical issue or several medical issues. Take them to the vet, asap.

Check out Jackson Galaxy’s YouTube page. He has videos on trouble shooting problems with your cats. They are telling you somethings wrong. Could be dirty litter, start cleaning daily 2x until it resolves, try cat attract litter attracant, add 2 more litter boxes and see if they take to those, make sure there’s nothing medically going on, is a child or someone hurting the cats, are they scared, did you change litters, is there a lid (try taking it off), get a larger cat box, etc. There are lots of things to try but a vet check and giving them lots of clean litter box options is a start.

Definitely take to the vet, mine did that and it was only about a month later he passed away :sob::sob::sob:

Have you changed cat litters? My daughter’s cat started peeing everywhere except the litter box when she switched it. As soon as she went back to what she had previously used the cat was using the box again.

Could have a bladder infection you need to take him to the vets

It’s usually bc something has changed and they don’t like it so its causing stress. New baby, new furniture, new house, new laundry soap, new air freshener etc. They’re picky things. It could also be a medical issue. Ears, uti, dental etc.

My cat did that and I took her to vet to find out she was in kidney failure .

My cat did it when he was mad at me. I beat his ass and threw him in the litter box told him you shit here he quit doing it. The other cat that didn’t got thrown outside and probably got ate by a coyote.

My brother had a cat same thing happened took her to the vet and she had worms so can be something like that not sure but a vet check probably is the best option!

Our cat ruined my 75 inch tv bc of this ,
She was getting in the windows and spraying the TV with pee , I don’t put a TV in front of any windows now…She don’t do it all the time either just ever so often…I figured she done this bc she isn’t fixed?

Could be stress or it could be something medically wrong like a UTI. Is there a new cat in the neighborhood and maybe they’re trying to mark their territory?

My cat recently did this after I got a new litter box and new litter. My mom’s cat once did the same thing. Apparently then the box doesn’t have their “scent” on it anymore and they don’t want to use it. So that’s a possibility. They have this litter at most pet stores called “cat attract” , it’s supposed to get them to go in the litter box, it worked for my mom’s cat and it worked for mine and he started going in the box again thankfully!!

Stress, I have one that does it. I close all doors that has carpet in it and no more problems

UTI. They associate the pain with their litter box. Gets some new food for utis and bet it stops

Mine did that and they were mad that the tops were off 2 of the boxes. I took them out to wash and never brought them back in and they were mad mad. :joy:

Something has changed in your house.

UTI and diabetes get them checked

I was totally broken when the love of my life left me it was so hard for me almost gave up if not for a friend who directed me to a very good and powerful man magnet who helped me bring back the love of my life and now he treats me with so much love and care I don’t know what problems you are passing through but with what with him if you need his help

My cat started doing this literally right outside the litter box and I had already had her checked at the vet. She is an anxious cat and I have 3 other cats they don’t all get along but they cohabitate well. I noticed I was kinda spending more attention on one of the other cats and she did not like that I noticed the second I started to spend some quality one on one time with her alone away from the other cats she STOPPED :face_with_peeking_eye::flushed: that’s how she told me :exploding_head: believe it or not but cats can do that as a way of telling you they are not happy with something

UTI
Probably
If so
Catching it earlier than later
Is very important

So my 3 dogs just started doing this and they are all boys and not fixed and have not peed in my house in years and all of the sudden for 3 weeks now I’m cleaning dog pee every where I turn…they are healthy and have no health issues either so I am not sure why they are doing it. They pee on everything you mentioned and I am so tired of it and I cannot figure out why either. I know yours are cats but idk what is going on.
