Yes if you qualify for any tax credits.

I stay at home. My husband claims me

Always file regardless of income. Child tax credit and you might also pull from other sources depending where your from.

File if you’re claiming the kid. I’m not sure of your situation but if it’s court claimed that he gets to claim the kid, then he gets to. And just make sure that he doesn’t try to claim the kid if you are.

If you know 100% you’ll be the only one claiming your kid, yes file. Because then you’ll get your $$$ for the kid. If you have any other tax credits you think you’ll get back, but otherwise I’d mainly be filing for the kid.

Are you married?? My husband claimed me, were getting back almost $3k on federal. I’m a SAHW, hubby works full time.

You should get $ for kid but that’s about it. You can try it but not submit it.

You have to have made money in order to file taxes. Do you have a spouse?

I think alot of people here are referencing the federal. But really It will depend on the state. This is for Massachusetts

No you won’t unless you have someone you can file with like a husband

You need to pay taxes and have an earned income to be able to claim the EITC and CTC and your earned income has to fall within certain parameters to qualify for the full amount.

I was a stay at home mom for 4 years. I couldn’t file taxes at all because I didn’t make an income. My baby daddy filed taxes and claimed her and gave me the child tax credit income to me when it was my year to claim her.

Did you work at all in 2023

Just go to a tax person and let them figure it out for your situation and state!

The simplest version of TurboTax is free. Get on it, put your info in and see what happens

We need more info here as Tax is country specific and most of the time provinces or states specific we need more information here. Where are you from? Country and province

In the U.S. you do not file if you do not have an income from a paying job. Before I was working when I was a SAHM my husband filed. Once we got married he started filing jointly.

You have to have income to file

What money would you get back? Certainly not yours if you haven’t made any :woman_facepalming:

Taxpayers who have no income but have a dependent can still file a tax return to claim certain tax credits, such as the Child Tax Credit. Another tax credit for low or no income is the Earned Income Tax Credit. All the wrong people chiming in lol  :joy: :upside_down_face: look it up people!!!

Yes you file taxes. No you probably won’t get anything back.

If you paid no taxes, then you get nothing back…

You will not get the child tax credit or earned income credit with no income :woman_facepalming:t2:It is always good to file so they know about you , in case of another pandemic or stimulus

Not even trying to be snarky but if you’re single, SAHM and no income, how are you surviving?

You didn’t earn income so what would you file ? Your partner can claim you but you can’t file taxes if you made no money

If you’re married, yes. You’d file joint with your husband. If you’re not married no. If you have a live in boyfriend then he files and claims the child.
You, by yourself, can’t file taxes without income. Its an income tax return.

Your husband / baby’s dad can claim you and baby

Considering there are people on this group from many different parts of the world I would not take tax advice from this group

I’m a SAHM my husband files them. He files jointly even though I’m not working.

You can be claimed but its worded differently as you would be married filing jointly, just not as a listed dependent

File taxes on what? No income, no taxes

… no… why would you think you get something from nothing? If you have no income, then you didn’t oay taxes, if you dont pay taxes you get nothing back.

If you claim your child youll get money for that, but nothing else.

You need an income of at least $2500 to claim the child tax credit on federal taxes.

If she didn’t work to receive a W2 or a 1099c she can’t file without income to report

If I remember right, you have to make a minimum of $500.00 to qualify for earned income credit.

You should always be filing taxes. Not sure how it is in the states, but we get lots of benefits here in Canada, in order to get those benefits we HAVE to file even if we made nothing.

If you didn’t pay in taxes then no.

Single… Stay at home mom.

Tell me your a bum without actually telling me

Why would you be entitled to taxes back if you don’t work?? What?? :woman_facepalming:

U won’t get anything if u had no income.

I’d advise an appointment with an accountant. In the U.S. they don’t usually charge unless they actually file for you. Some will even answer?s over the phone. Even before that though you can put all info in in an online site like tax slayer and it will give you an estimate with out payment. You don’t have to submit it to get a $#.

They are working on helping ppl who don’t work but yes there’s ways to get the child tax credit. Did u make any money on the side this year? Claim it and pay the 10 percent taxes on it you’ll get a tax return for your credits and won’t pay anything up front. It’ll come out of your CTC.

I’m in Ontario Canada and you claim even if you have no income.

First of all, how are you a sahm with no income? Lol. Second. Still file. New law states you can use your income from previous year 2022 if it was higher than this year 2023. So if you earned ANY income at all ( even if you filed jointly) you can still claim the earned income credit and the child tax credit. If you haven’t had income in the past 2 years I’d talk with a specialist.

U can’t file taxes if you have no income? How is this not common knowledge? Are people really this dumb? Sorry but it just blows my mind

What the heck?? The money you get back in taxes is money the government has taken from your income. You had no income so there for they took no money from you. You are owed nothing.
