Would you let your 12-year-old wear a crop top?

Would you let your 12 year old daughter wear a crop top? It’s so hard shopping for this child. It seems all the cute stuff and only in style is crop tops. Where do y’all shop?

Yep. Because it’s their bodies and they need to learn early to taken ownership of their bodies. Do I have conversations about modesty, yes. However, my girls have NEVER tried to cross a line. There are some battles that aren’t worth fighting. I’d rather my girls wear a crop top occasionally and know they have control and ownership of themselves, then fight them on it.

yes with a tank top underneath.

My nearly 7 year old wears them…

Absolutely! These are the ages I think they should be wearing crop tops! Sometimes with a tank under… sometimes not.

Yes, but only with high waisted shorts/pants

Yes I would my daughters have tons of them and they look cute in them. They are mostly worn with high cut shorts or jeans. Sometimes worn with regular shorts. Wearing a crop top in summer is not different than letting your child run around in a bathing suits. The crop even covers more. So I never understood what the big deal was.

Yes, :woman_shrugging: I was never keen but seems it’s quite common these days especially in high school. If her friends are wearing them she will want too.

Just a shirt girls wore what they wanted

My almost 7 year old asked for a crop top. I felt she was too young but told here when she is old enough for a job she can choose whatever clothing she wants. She accepted that answer but we shall see if the battle is continued in a few years.

Yea with a tank top under neath. I swear girls nowadays are acting way too old for their age

No I would not… n we shop just about everywhere for my daughter and nieces clothing.

With high waisted pants I think it is fine, I even bought my 5 year old high waisted leggings and a crop top and it is cute as hell. But as always you are the parent if at all you feel uncomfortable with her wearing it then tell her that and ask her if there is other styles of shirts you could buy her.

My 9 yr old does :woman_shrugging:if it’s super short she wears a shoppers bra underneath

Yes !!! If they are not too short ,
She can wear them with high waist jeans or skirt (just try to make a balance ) if she wear a crop top , she should not wear a very short pants ( just my opinion )

Yes we do crops with a skin tight undershirt they sell cheap ones at Walmart. We usually do contrast colors like tan beige or black and then contrasting color crop… We did this to follow school dress code and it became the style for my kiddo. We usually get the oversized crop that basically go to the waist band but do show a bit of stomach. Just because the style is crops doesn’t mean they need to let it all hang out. And my daughter loved being able to add crops to her wardrobe without a fight

My 10 year old has some but she has to wear a tank top under it and layer so that there’s no belly showing

My 13 and 9 yr old wear them! They wear high waisted shorts, jeans and leggings. Hardly any skin shows and if it does it’s just a little belly. Better than buttcheeks out of the shorts trend!

Its one of those things, you need to pick your battles. Our rule is breast covered and butt cheeks covered. :woman_shrugging: I’ve got bigger fish to fry than worrying about a crop top.

No, it’s bad enough that they show everything on the beach. They don’t need to show the world what they have.

Nope. Shorts/skirts/dress go to the knees or longer and shirts to the top of your bottoms. Can wear tanks, halters, spaghetti straps, t-shirts etc. No reason at all for kids to show belly, chest or thighs.

No

I have twin girls that are 12.

Crop tops are inappropriate for children and my girls wear one piece bathing suits also or two pieces that are tankinis so it covers their bellies.

We shop at Kohls and usually have no trouble finding full length shirts that fit.

Hell no! Children are way too sexualized in aspects of life these days! Fashion is a big one, and i disagree with any body under 16-18 who let their child wear clothes that expose their body in anyway.

You’re the parent. my kids don’t because to me they look like an adult when they wear that shit. Ross and JCPenney have good selections that don’t have crop tops

Nopeeee
I hate that styles these days shows little girl bellies …and short shorts … it’s crazy…
You can be cute and not show body …

I don’t let my 12yo wear clothes that show off her body. First of all she’s still a child. Second there’s sickos that will sexualize children.

I typically buy her boys shorts. They’re longer, don’t “cut up” & have pockets (that last 1 is a big deal for my girl). For shirts she wears tshirts.

I would ask do you let her wear a bikini to swim in around strangers or family friends?

Yes! I let my 9 year old wear them! She wears a little training bra underneath just incase but they are so perfect for summer!

No. Spaghetti straps or halter tops, fine. it’s summer and hot out.

My 7 year old has some and can only wear them with a tank top underneath

Hard no…12 yr old girls do not need crop tops period.

I don’t mind crop tops. My 8yr old has 1. It barely shows her belly. I do not let her wear short shorts though. It depends how it fits on her

It depends on where we are going. But most of the time yes, the longer ones. Not the ones that she can’t even lift her arms high.

Yes. My kids wear whatever they want to wear. It’s a belly button ffs. My 13yo wears a bikini top and shorts most days. My 11yo and 8yo live in leggings and a crop top.

Yes because one lesson that I learned from my dad shopping one day when I was 12 like the top and I asked him if he liked it and he turned to me and he said it doesn’t matter if I like it it matters if you do. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I love my dad

I let her at home, if she wears it out she has to wear a tank top underneath

Yep. I let me 10 year old we compromise and she wears her camis under them cause I struggle with all the skin. But ya at 12 I would.

Absolutely not
My SD (14) knows not to come to our house dressed like that. What she does at home with her mom is their choice.

I want to say no, but you gotta pick and choose your battles. What’s the rest of the outfit look like and where is she wearing it to? Is it just a little tummy showing with high waisted pants and her chest area fully covered? Or is she trying to basically wear a bra and short shorts? Is she wanting to wear it to an outing with friends or to church?

My mom wouldn’t let me and I just rolled up my shirt after I left the house. Atleast if you give a little, you might have some control over how cropped the crop top is lol.

Honestly its getting pretty hard to buy clothes that are age appropriate.

This can’t be real…. F no!!! Have standards for your kids. JFC.

There are crop tops and crop tops. A nice cropped tee or one that ties looks cute. Something resembling a sports bra? Possibly not.

My 6 year old daughter wears a crop top under her singlets. Or her play suits!

It’s just a belly button, everyone has one & they aren’t attractive.

My 8 yes old wears them kids nowadays are growing up way faster then they use too and if she knows her body and the rights and wrongs she will be fine x

At 12 maybe more in the house not outside with it on till she was abit older

Yes, because we don’t body shame or sexualize our children.

Yes, it’s a fucking belly button  anybody who has an issue with it needs to get a grip and stop sexualizing children; they’re the problem, not the clothing.

I don’t have a daughter , but I can’t even find a shirt for ME that isn’t a crop top. LOL…
Its not so cute on Me.
BUT when I was younger…I did wear crop tops , or we called them " Belly tops" those lil CKOne shirts. With baggyish pants .
I think it depends on what they wear the crop top with

I allow my 11 year old to wear them with a sports bra underneath, but she isn’t allowed to wear them to school. Right now we follow the 3 no B’s at school. No boobs, belly or butt.

As a person that was a teenager in the 70s and lived in the era of bralessness, crop tops, strapless tops and any other number of skin showing clothing CHOICES, when you choose to sexualize what a 7, 10 or 12 year old is wearing because it shows skin you are making a huge mistake. You are in effect body shaming a child that just wants to fit in and dress like her peers. While the boys are playing basketball as shirts & skins, forcing a girl to wear one piece swim suits and shirts that cover their midriff and shoulders is akin to telling her that she’s not equal and has fewer choices at a very young age. Teach her to love and respect her body, not that she is prohibited from wearing certain styles of clothing because of her gender.

Clothes are clothes. Stop specializing children.

No don’t. Too many weirdos now. The society is much more dangerous than ever. Cover your kids up

NO. That’s disgusting and we need to stop sexualizing children by allowing them to wear adult clothing.
