Would you let your child paint their nails black?

Would yall let your daughter paint her nails black at 7 almost 8? She will be 8 in March. She lives a bit on the dark side like I do. Black shirts and jeans, black leggings and colorful shirt. She always has something black. I call her my punk style child. Recently she’s been bugging to paint her nails black but I’m on the fence about it. I know it’s not permanent and can be removed or will flake off in time.

I just painted my 7 year olds nails black today

Why not. It isn’t that big of a deal. Mine is a teen and changes her hair color constantly. It is a way to define themselves that isn’t permanent or dangerous if supervised.

Yes. :100: they are her nails.

My six year old had black nail polish right now

My son is 3 and I paint his toe nails black and occasionally his finger nails too… it’s fine…

What’s wrong with black? :black_heart:

It’s just nail.polish. let her express herself

Yes. We don’t care what colors they choose to paint their own nails.

I don’t see any issue with it!!

I didn’t start wearing nail polish until I was a teenager started using darker colors when I bought my own. My favorite was violet extreme a very dark purple. My parents hated it!!

My 3yo paints her nails black all the time🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes I would. I’ve almost always got black on mine, and all 3 of my girls (15, 14, 9) like it often too

My dad had a weird thing about red nail polish, and it really sucked as a kid. Just let her do it

I let my kids pick out whatever colors they want. My son had florescent yellow and my daughter had blue last time.

My daughter is 4 she is the most girly princess girl ever but loves black nails

Just let her do it it’ll make her happy and really it’s something so simple :black_heart:

Yeah i would no different then painting them any other colour

yes. absolutely. self expression is important to kids growth, don’t damper that with a differing opinion that could make her feel judged and unworthy

I don’t see it as a big deal, she’s old enough for nail polish so why not lol

" she lives on the dark side like I do". She wants to be like you, so why not

I’m not dark and edgy but I only wear black nail polish. It goes with literally everything :woman_shrugging:t2: my daughter doesn’t paint her nails anymore but when she did they were black a lot

Is this for real? It’s just nail polish…

Yes. Black was my daughter’s favorite color at 6. She’s painted her nails black several times over the years.

I wouldn’t have a problem with it. My concern would be school. My oldest was questioned for wearing all black. He was into star wars so most shirts were black. He had his favorite black hoodie etc. “Must be depressed, angry etc”. In this current world authority is always looking for signs of the next shooter. I’d paint her nails but be prepared for them to start problems.

it’s just nail polish and just a color I don’t see what the problem is

It’s nail polish :woman_shrugging:t3:. My youngest son always wants to wear my nail polish. It’s funny he’s the epitome of everything that is boy! But he just likes his fingernails to be blue and sometimes he wants to dress up at daycare like Elsa or a fighter fighter. I let my kids play with whatever toy they wanted to and I didn’t label them anything. If they liked them they liked them. Let her express herself. Nothing wrong with black nail polish

Ive just never understood why nail polish is such a big deal. It comes off lol. Not being judgy, and i hope im not coming off that way lol. I just remember growing up with the worst stepfather who was highly abusive. Any sign of nail polish, makeup etc i was in serious trouble. So just let her.

If you acknowledge the fact that it can be easily removed, then why even bother asking anyone’s take on it? Why is it such a big deal that she wants to rock black nail polish :nail_care:t4:? I loveeeee wearing black and red myself! I use black nail polish on occasion. If I had a daughter, I wouldn’t have an issue with it because it’s just fun and plain cool. No reason to overcomplicate something you both could be bonding over. Geez!

Yes and I don’t understand the hesitation. It’s a non-permanent form of expression and something she likes so why not?

my daughter would sneak the black when she first started learning at 3

she used a sharpie, though, do not recommend

What’s wrong with black what’s wrong with having black nails it’s just a color

Colors aren’t evil or anything. I let my paint theirs whatever they want

You’re already letting her have the style in all other aspects why not her nails too? It’s just polish. Would you be iffy about it if it were a different color? (Not intending for this to sound rude if it does I apologize)

Black is a color, right? Why is it any different than red or pink or purple?

Yeah lol there r photos of her dad with black nail polish and eyeliner. It comes off

Yes. Nail polish is a harmless and healthy way to express herself!

Would you question if she wanted to paint her nails pink or orange? No. Black is a color too. Let her express herself😒

It’s just fingernail polish. I don’t see the issue. :person_shrugging:

It’s just nail polish :woman_shrugging:t2:

I’m not sure what the issue is here?

Is this a real question? I don’t understand what’s wrong with black.

It’s just nail polish lol. I don’t see why it would be any different from any other color. It’s not like she’s asking to wear fishnets.

It’s not a gateway drug … it’s nail polish she wants to be like you

Yes. It’s still a color. Nor is there anything wrong with black.

Why is this even a question? It’s just fingernail polish. You should support your daughter in learning how to express herself, in all aspects.

No. She’s too young. It’s not nail polish bc my 8 year old granddaughter wears it sometimes. It’s black. In my opinion, black is just too much for an 8 yo.

Seriously…it’s nail polish. Who cares :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

She “lives a bit on the dark side” like you, always wearing something black, and call her your “punk style child” but on the fence of her painting her nails black? This is a confusing post… It’s okay to color her nails any other color (assuming you allow her to wear it) but black is an issue? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: It’s just nail polish.

Why not!! It’s just polish and she’s a kid… no other time to let her know that it’s OK to be who you are

Let her. It’s a color too. If you do black like that your kids will want to also

Um what’s wrong with black?

First time I painted my oldest daughter’s nails she was 2 and wanted to get yellow nails just like Mami. I see it the same as letting her choose the color of her clothes. It’s not permanent and if it’s the chemicals that worry you they sell children’s nail polish that comes off super easy in like 2 days and is safer.

Are you serious? My mom did this same shit to me, I had my nails painted black for the first time when I was 29. I resent her for how she sheltered me from stupid shit like this.

The only color my mom didn’t allow until I was older, was red.

I say let the little one do her thing. My little one loves to paint her nails black to match mine when I do paint mine. But, she also loves doing other colors or multiple colors. :woman_shrugging:t3: it comes off. But, I also let her do her makeup and we dye her hair with semi permanent color.

I allowed my boys to paint their fingernails black. Some of the wwe wrestlers do it. It was no big deal , they didn’t do it for long. They are fine upstanding young men now.

Why not ? I’ve painted my nails black since I was 5 and found the polish lol.

If she wants it let her do it. It’s only nail paint

I let mine put pink highlights in her hair at that age, so Im probably not the one to ask….

Just use a nice base coat so it doesn’t stain…

Most aren’t addressing the concern you seemed to have so I will, no black nail polish doesn’t stain any more than other colors. It’s the same so no worries. You can also put a clear coat on first so the nail doesn’t get any staining and has a strength boost.

I let my little boy paint his nails whatever color he wants :joy: he also has crazy earrings. Let her do her nails, it’s not permanent

What an odd question. Do you let her paint them other colors? Why is black different?

Let her express herself now in the safe ways, or chances are she will later in the ways you don’t want her too.

My kids can do any color they want.

Let her paint her nails, she needs to express herself.

I’m probably going to be the odd an out but, I allowed it in the house but it had to be removed before school. It’s a compromise that might work for your daughter.

How is this even a question.

Yeah I never restricted my daughter with the colors she was allowed to use they are all just colors

Yes! It’s nail polish not a piercing or tattoo

It’s nail polish…let her

If you let her paint her nails what is the point of restricting certain colors? Jesus.

It’s just a color. Come on. Bigger things to worry about.

This is not a battle that is worth it. Nail polish is a very simple way to express yourself. Allow the nail polish and eventually the crazy hair colors. Worry about the things that matter like how they grow up to treat others.

No harm in it, it’s just nail polish!

Yes, why not. It’s nail polish nothing wrong with it. When I was that age I was always bored so I used permanent marker lol.it was always a dark color. black dark blue.

Yah man it’s nail polish it’s black nothing wrong with black

Of course, it’s just nail polish

Nail polish is like the chillest okay, esp if you kinda like black stuff to I mean it’s not like crazy black eye liner nails are fine!

Nail polish is not harmless. The chemicals can be absorbed by the body . Try to find children’s polish rather than use your own

What’s wrong with black nail polish?

Umm yeah of course. It’s just nail polish.
