Advice on puberty in young girls

My daughter is 9 (and a half) today she came home from her dad's after spending Thanksgiving holiday there and not 5 mins later she told me today she saw blood in her panties. I asked her if anyone had touched her "there" or if she might have hurt herself...just to check but she said no and I believe her. Ive taught both my kids about private areas and how no one is allowed to touch and if it happens they should tell me immediately, no matter what. She definitely said no and my next thought is...she's starting her period. I noticed her chest was starting to develop back in July so I got her some training bras and I knew what was coming but I figured it would be a year or two before she actually started! Since she has been home there's been no more discharge/blood but I went ahead and got her some pads just in case. I'm at a loss, she is only 9...is it normal for a young girl to bleed or spot and then have nothing?? My personal experience at 13 was totally different and I just want to do my best to guide her through all this.

I started at 9. It’s young yes but I didn’t develop any faster then girls my age and my periods were pretty easy to deal with .

My daughter and my niece started at 9 as did my eldest granddaughters . I started at 10

My daughter was 9 when she started her period. The first three she had was light.

But she also could have a uti.

My sister was 9. It’s absolutely possible.

I was a late starter at 14

My niece started at 9 I guess it’s the way it is these days I didn’t get mine til I was 13 also

Yep. Normal. Mom of 4 girls here.

Yes it’s normal. Best advice would be to talk to your doctor. But idk if you know this. They do sell period panties now that are supposed to be great for young girls like her. You wash them when they’re done using them and use them again. I would look into them for her.

Take her to a dr to get checked out she could have a yeast infection or some other kind of infection.

I’ve had friends, family and friends’ daughters who started this early.

I had my menstrual cycle in 4th grade.
The first few time it was so spotty with light pink. Took a few years until it was full blown menstrual cycle for me.

I started summer after I turned 10 but my first few were very light.

I started at 12, but my first few months were definitely just very minimal spotting.

My sister started her period at 8. She eventually was diagnosed with PCOS but I wouldn’t worry. I started mine at 10 or 11.

My daughter started spotting at 9 for a month and then nothing. A year later she finally got her period

Yep 9 is considered normal

I started mine same age. Ive started menopause early too. Im 43. Is just my experiance

I lied to my mom about getting my period because I wanted to be grown up. Didn’t start until like 2 years later

I’d take her to the doctor

My daughter started 2 weeks after her 10th birthday. Very normal for a girl to start at that age.

She couldve wiped too hard. It happens to me.

I was 9 when mine started

My sister was 9 and I was 12, good luck mama! I’ll be going through the same thing too! Kids these days are maturing more and more.

I started my periods at 9 so yes it is very possible. X

I started in 2nd grade around 9 years old. I bled a few drops then stopped for months then would start again. it took about 3 years of irregular all over the place cycles to get everything leveled and monthly

I was 9 when I started my period, my sister was 13.

I was 10, it’s normal. :black_heart:

My daughter was 9 when she got hers too

It doesn’t sound like the start of her period it sounds like an infection

I was 9 when i got mine if it happens at school let her come home if she wants to

My friend growing up had her period at 8 years old. It’s definitely possible. When I started at 11 or 12 (I can’t remember exactly) that’s what happened to me. I “started” at a friends house (not the same friend) and that was that. I bled for a day and didn’t have my actual period until several months later.

My best friend started between 9-10 and that’s how it was for her. I didn’t until 13-14.

I was 9 when I started mines.

I started right before my 10th birthday. Had the red spot- didn’t tel my
Mom and didn’t actively bleeding until a week-10 days later

I was 9 when I started. Had all the signs I would. Some girls do spot up till they actually start. Def talk to her about it and make her feel comfortable about talking about any more spotting or bleeding. It’s scary at that age but def happens.

I started at 9. My sister at 11. Our dr said all girls are different!!!

I was 10, and mine wasn’t regular for the first few years.

100% normal, I spotted at 9 and didn’t have anything else happen for a few months but by 10 I had it in its full blow glory:roll_eyes::woman_facepalming:t2::rofl:

A lot of girls start early. My step daughter (11) just started a couple weeks ago and it was very minimal bleeding. It could just be gearing up for the “big flow”…she only used panty liners and it lasted maybe 5 days.

She needs to see a Dr my oldest had something like that around 10 but actually didn’t start period until 12. It was due to a cyst rupturing on the ovary. The doctor explained that everyone has small cyst and some do rupture

I was this age myself tbh I was about 8 1/2- 9 when it happened totally normal xx

I can’t get over these posts this page puts up. Half the time they sound made up and then the others (like this one) like why are you asking a Facebook group?? Take your damn kid to the doctor if you have concerns. And before the moms here come at me, don’t worry, I can’t stomach anymore of these stupid posts and will be leaving.

I have known girls to have that 1 first spot/period and not have a regular period for months.

I’m in your boat… my 8.5 year old wears sports bras, and I am afraid the poor kid is going to start hers within the next year.

It’s early but it’s normal. I had the talk with my daughter at 9 because I noticed her developing. It didn’t happen until she was 11 but it’s happening earlier and earlier bc we have so many hormones in our food

My daughter was 7 when she started budding breast she’s 8 now and has started growing pubic hair. Pediatrician said she can start her period any time. I was 13. I had spotting the first few cycles. I didn’t even need to use a pad. I would definitely talk to pediatrician just for a peace of mind.

Honestly my 9 year old starting having cramps and I had asked her if she was worried or nervous bout something and she said no. So I thought oooo goodness it’s starting to happen she’s only 9 this CANT be lol. But I’ve had sisters start that early as well as my mom. Is there any recommendations on good training bras she has asked me but I am just not ready but she says her shirts are making her uncomfortable so I kno what that means :heart:. I just don’t wanna get her anything older than what she is for a bra

I have heard that young girls can spot, but then not get their period for months later. I would make a doctors appointment just to be sure.

My daughter started at 11, had a semi normal period the first month and then didn’t have one for two months after that, then it regulated itself out and Became normal.

I started mine at 9/10 years old. I was so scared to tell anyone because I thought I was dying :weary: but I’ve also had absolutely horrible periods.
My girls are 7 and I’m so scared for them to start! I’m not ready for all that.

One of my daughters started hers around 10 by just spotting a few times for the first year, never a pattern to it really, and then about a year later it started to become a bit more obvious and a bit more regular. My other daughter had no spotting and was hit hard with her first one at 12. Everyone is different, but it’s normal.

My girls were 10 and 11, my dr said girls are developing early now because of all the steroids in the food.

I was 10 when I started, mine were super light and short for the first couple years.

Yes it’s normal
It can start ad go then come back or after six months

Many get it early. Many are hitting these milestones much earlier with the chemicals in our environment ( in clothes, in food, cleaning supplies, in the material of sheets.) the research would chock you!!
Maybe period panties rather than pass? A friend of mine did that for her younger daughter

Yes, I started at just barely 10 years old.

Both of my girls started at 8

My daughter started at 9. Perfectly normal at this age.

I wasn’t 9 but I hear a lot of girls are starting younger nowadays.

As for starting and stopping that is normal.
I had mine a month before i turned 12 then nothing for about 4 or 5 months.

Yes it’s normal, every girl is different. I myself was nine and a half when I got my very first one

My daughter is 10, started spotting in august and has 3 times since for a day or two but nothing regular yet. A few of her friends moms and I were talking and the majority of her friends aged 9-11 are all in the same situation. It seems like it’s starting earlier.

I started my period at 9. This is normal.

My now 13 year old started at 9 it does happen that early don’t stress

My daughter started at 10!

My sister started at 9 while i started at 13. Every female is different. No need for alarm unless you get her a cervical check from her doctor for a peace of mind.

I started mine at 8yrs old

My daughter is 9,in training bras… and no period yet… but I’ve heard that it starts early now a days

Yup I started at 9 too!

I heard it’s normal. I was 14 but a very late bloomer in everything I did apparently. My daughter is also 9 1/2 and she started developing cramps last month. It wasn’t belly aches, diarrhea… nothing. She just started with the training bras too. I explained small details about “blood & cramps” thankfully she has older girl cousins and they spoke about it before. ( I know this is totally crazy but the Kardashians explained periods very well. I liked that idea, I mean if your going to hear this from media- They we’re a good source) lol know this is coming very soon. Good Luck! :pray:t2::heart:

Victoria Dale Cartrette omg i know they can start at 9 but can you flippin imagine ours starting in a little over a year :astonished:
Nope no nooo :speak_no_evil::hear_no_evil::see_no_evil:

My daughter started at 9 also I was in total shock but yes it’s possible and is very common now days …!!

My daughter will be 11 this month, but about 4 months ago, she started her period… She had already knew what to do and such and she informed me that she was on it… 4 days, light… Been keeping track and I must say … I’m jealous :joy:

Melatonin does cause puberty early not saying unever gave it too her just putting it out there for anyone but the earliest age that they can normally start is 9 and the lastest shouldn’t be 16

It’s normal… If it will help, I started some months before my 9th birthday. Didn’t tell anyone till I was 17 going to 18. The day I told my uncle (dad sort of), he had tears in his eyes. He told my parents and they sort of celebrated. I didn’t know they were so anxious for me.

As an adult now with kids around me… I now understand them better. I thought they were just being sentimental.

Congratulations ma’am for your youngling. She really got someone sweet to confide in :revolving_hearts::revolving_hearts:

I started at 8, at girl scout summer camp. Embarrassing enough I didnt know nothing about periods and I thought maybe a bug bit me, went to the nurse and got a bandaid and put it down there in the restroom:rofl::rofl: nurse didnt even ask where I was bleeding or got “bit”, nothing lol. But over the past years girls are starting earlier and earlier from the GMOs in food and hormone imbalancers in everything in our homes pretty much. I know a girl my age that started when she was 7, its completely normal these days

It’s called precocious puberty. I went thru it at 7 years, 2nd grade. I would talk to a doctor. They didn’t really understand things when it happened to me. It effects the growth hormones. I stopped growing shortly after 4th grade. Theres treatments now to prevent that from happening. You don’t have to do the treatments. Its just a thought.

I’d get her checked for a UTI and yeast infection just to rule them out then you can be reassured. Ask her if it’s been burning or stinging when she pees or if she’s got any white stuff on her skin down there or anything. Could just be her period my 9 yr old has a lot of signs of getting hers very soon she’s also become very developed.

Everyone is Different, I was always thin and didn’t get mine until I was 16 almost 17, they say that once a girl reaches a 100 pounds that’s what tiggers it, but I don’t know if that’s always the case

My daughter started at 9

I started at 9 also.

It’s very normal to start that early

My sister is 9 and got hers but I didn’t get mine till 15.

Both my girls started at 8. They had a little blood and then nothing. A month later both had a full cycle and then didn’t have one for 6 months. After that they started getting it monthly.

My sister started at 9, I started at 14. Everyone is different

My daughter was 7 when she started development of her breast in took her to the doctor and the doctor order the MRI did the x-ray of a hand come to find out my daughter was going through puberty at a very young age she ended up starting her period at 9 it was a little spotting. Too then by next month it was more

I started PMSing at 9 spotting at 10 and full blown periods by 11, its normal. Everyone developes at different times.

Yes, some start earlier than others.

My daughter just had her first period… she’s 10

I got mine that early.

My cycle started when I was 9 amd for the first year or so they weren’t very regular. Sometimes it would come after about 4 weeks but there was a few months in the beginning where I have one at all.

I was young with I started mine. If she hasn’t bled more than just the spotting, I would take her to her dr to just be sure. :woman_shrugging:t3:

I was 9 everyone’s different

As you know life doesn’t follow a callender and a set schedule set forth in a textbook all the time…
And
How wonderful, what an awesome opportunity to mentor your daughter into adulthood as she is still experiencing the magic of childhood. You can let both transpire as nature is intending. She will almost surely feel confused and conflicted at times and this is an amazing chance bond.
Celebrate her transitioning into womanhood as you let her live childhood.
Peace.

Start on a normal
Cycle

My niece started in 4th grade! So did some of my oldest daughters friends. And lots of my friends did in 4th and 5th grade. So crazy but normal. Fortunately I didn’t until 8th grade so I hope my daughter’s take after me too :pray:t2::sob:

Yes. Normal. Especially with the amount of hormones in food! It could happen again soon, or take a while to see it again.
