Advice on puberty in young girls

My oldest daughter started when she was 9.

My granddaughter was 9 as well

I was 9 when I started

It’s normal age for girls to start puberty. I think it’s because of all the hormones in our food that people are going into puberty sooner these days

Thank you for asking this question! My sister was 10 when she started and I have a 6 year old that I hadn’t even thought about talking period talk with just yet but from the comments I best believe its time to start just in case.

My sister and niece both started when they were 9!

My first period was at 9 but it was for a few days. May consult her doctor if you have concerns.

It’s normal for kids to start thag early now some as young as 8 start but not proper cycles just the odd bleed here and there

My baby was 8 yrs old

My daughter started at 10

I started when I was 8 or 9 so it does happen

I started at 9 so did my mom

My daughter started at 9 as well. Hugs!

Yes. I got mine that early & for my first 4 or 5 “cycles” it was just old blood (brown) and discharge for like a day or 2.

I got mine when I was 10 so it definitely sounds normal

My daughter is 9 and some of her friends have been getting theirs. Some are on second/third periods and some are on firsts.

My aunt was 9 when she started hers and yes spotting is completely normal before fully getting her period

I started at 9, but had a history of sexual abuse. My little sister was also sexually abused, but didn’t start until 13. It can be a red flag, but not a sure sign. I’d suggest bringing her to her pediatrician and move forward from there. They had me get an exam to rule out external trauma as the cause of bleeding and discovered my hymen was broken. Hugs mama, this can be completely normal, but a visit to her Dr can give you peace of mind as well.

I was 9-10 years old and in the 4th grade.

My daughter started when she was 9

I started at 10 years old definitely normal! Good luck wish you the best with her journey.

My daughter started hers when she was 8

I was about 10 when my womanhood hit me and menopause ugggg

9 is totally okay!!! And yes spotting is normal. I got mine at 10 and spotted for my first month then my next month was normal. If the spotting persists I’d bring her to an OBGYN just Incase.

Did you ask her how much blood? I know a few times (not saying this is the case) but my kids have pushed to hard when trying to :poop: and they have bleed a little which happens.
However it’s no uncommon for a 9 year old to get her period, just never really talked about. I would watch her and see if it happens again. It maybe something that she doesn’t have again for a while or it could be her period.

I was 8 and my daughter was 10 no sexual abuse for either of us

I know lots of girls to start at 9. Even myself

Unfortunately thiscis normal nowadays, it’s sad how young girl’s are developing due to hormones in the food. Just keep some pads around, but if you’re really troubled it can’t ever hurt to talk to her pediatrician. I noticed my step daughter developing at newly 8, it was only a matter of time. Crazy to me as I was 15 16

Yes it’s completely normal…I started ON MY 9th bday :flushed:….my family has a history of the girls starting their cycles early:woman_shrugging:t4:!

My daughter stated about a year ago (10) but hasnt had a full one yet. It only lasted like a day. Shes had light spotting here and there. Playing the waiting game now for it to fully kick in. Same with my niece, she started at 11 but was full on. Every month since.

Take her to the doctor!

If she doesn’t have pubic hair then I wouldn’t say period. But young ones don’t bleed much when they 1st start

I got mine at 9, and so did my mother, grandmother and great grandma all at 9. Be mindful of hormonal issues in the future. Doesn’t always mean there will be but I personally have struggled and so has my mom with hormone issues and it can be common the earlier you get your period.

I was 8 years old when I started. Had cramps everything.

I say just keep an eye on her. If you don’t expect sexual abuse then it probably is just her period. I started at 13 but my little niece just started hers at 10. Everyone’s different.

I had mine at 8 years old. It’s normal and she may not have a proper flow for a little while x

My 8 year old has literally started her periods 4 days ago. She doesn’t have spotting either it’s literally a full blown period straight away:( absolutely devastated for her xx

My daughter started hers a week before her 9th birthday.I know you’re not expecting your little girl to be getting so big just support and explain how her body is changing now. All the best xx

My daughter started at 8, I asked alll the same questions and we went to her pediatrician. I also didn’t start until I was 12-13. The pediatrician said she sees it a lot sooner now :disappointed:

My niece started with the discharge and little spotting. The dr told her parents that within the year to expect her period to start. Sure enough about 5months later she started her period. The blood and discharge is kind of a warning that not everyone gets but it is a sign that changes are happening in hormones. Just talk to her about her period and what to expect. Make sure she knows how to use the period products and had plenty on hand (especially for if it starts at school).

My mini me started last month and she doesn’t turn 10 until the end of January…

I had several friends whose little ladies started as early as 9. Take her to see the doctor, mama!

Totally normal and the average age is getting younger and younger. A majority of girls start between 8-12.

I was 9, my daughter started last year at 10. It’s normal, take her to her pediatrician for a check up.

Grandaughter started hers lasted a day then nothing for couple months then it started fully and now its every month. She had just turned 11

My little started on her 11th birthday…seems to me they are starting younger and younger…

Take her to the Doctor and ask his or her opinion! Why are you putting on social media?

My granddaughter is 9 and started last week too it’s crazy but it is happening younger n younger from all the stuff in our food and etc etc but it’s strange cuz I also was 13 so it’s kinda like wtf is going on nowa days

They are getting it younger due to hormones injected in chickens.

I remember I was 11 when I started mine. My daughter is 9 also and I didn’t even think about the periods she will be experiencing yet. Following post!

Girls are starting earlier and earlier. Possibly from the hormones in the foods we eat. Next step is to see her pediatrician. Could be months before next one comes. For first year my pediatrician said can be very irregular.

Yes. Mine started at 9 but didn’t become more regular until I was 10-11

I was in 1st grade when I started.

It’s normal these days

Totally normal. I was 8 when I started. In the early stage it won’t be regular and for awhile there will only be spotting maybe a full period here and there, this is kind of just a heads up from her body letting you know it’s almost that time.

My daughter is almost 13 and she just started

I got my period for a day or so then not again for a good amount of time maybe 4 6 months then it was regular…
It was like my body had a practice run a rest then kicked into gear i was about 12

I started when I was 8,it came 2x that year and it stopped until I turned 12

She could be starting her period, she could also have a little blood if she has a UTI. Not everyone has typical symptoms. I would take her to the pediatrician just to check. Especially since there is no more bleeding.

Yes that’s normal. Every girl is different :slightly_smiling_face: check in with her Pediatrition for more information but it seems like you’re all over this mama. Deep breaths, let the moods begin :slightly_smiling_face: also remember periods and hormones fluctuate with stress and change- just like ours do.

I had just turned 9 when I got my first period. I had no education about my body and I ran out of the bathroom thinking I was dying. My moms only explanation was that I was a woman now and gave me pads. :expressionless:
Anyway, It’s normal for some to start out that way and then the next cycle will be normal. Take her to her pediatrician to be sure though.

It could also be a yeast infection or maybe a UTI.

I got my period at 10 and I had breast buds by 8-9. My daughter currently has breast buds and she’s 8 1/2. So I know within the next year or year 1/2 she’s going to get her period. But she knows about it, every time I get mine she asks questions and I answer it truthfully because I don’t want her surprised.

I started at 9 years old

I started at nine and my first “period” was just one bloody spot in my panties, no more til the next month and I had my first full blown period.

This post makes me sad and nervous for my 7 and almost 6 year old girls :disappointed: I started early @ 11 but have heard earlier and earlier is more normal due to hormones and foods and change of ingredients in vaccinations

I started my period when I was 9

My daughter would spot around that age she’d even put pads on but nothing else and I thought she’s about to start her period but nothing just spotted a few times she didn’t actually start til last year she’s 15 1/2 now! I was about to get worried something was wrong I started by the age of 10 though

My mom was 9. I was 13. My daughter is 14 and still hasn’t started.

It’s not uncommon to start early. If you’re concerned talk to her pediatrician

Yes she can start early everyone is different I was 11

My pediatrician said girls are starting earlier these days due to all the hormones in the food and its not uncommon for them to start around 8-9. She also said that normally they start about 6 months after they start growing hair down below. It’s normal for the first to be spotty like that. I would just educate her and give her the proper equipment just incase. She could have also heard or seen someone else with their period thinking it was “fun” and just said she saw blood. Maybe a friend at school started or something. That’s not uncommon either.

If it was just a small amount of blood and then nothing Id take her to her pediatrician. Even if you were able to rule out sexual abuse, there are still other issues that could be going on. As someone stated above, a UTI could also be the culprit.

My daughter is 11 and started hers at 10. She was moody really bad for a long time before it happened and started developing in her chest. Puberty attacked this poor kid big time and I feel bad for her. It definitely is happening younger and younger these days, so it probably was her period.

Talk to your pediatrician.

I didn’t start my period until I was 14 years old. I am now 82. Things were different back then

I’ve seen girls hit puberty at 7 and 8

My friend’s daughter started at 9.

I was 9 mum own mum was 9 also x

I was 12 when I got mine. Most often it will start out irregular. And sad but true girls are developing earlier. Today’s food has a lot of harmful substances and I truly believe it is affecting our young people. For now discuss birds/bees and what to do when she is bleeding again. Always leave the door of communication open but privacy respect at same time. :slightly_smiling_face::heart:

I was 8 years & 10 months when my period arrived!

Sit her down, tell her what is happening to her body and to not be afraid, that it’s all normal and she’ll be ok!

Yeah I was 8 when I started mine unfortunately

Take her to the doctor! They can answer any possibilities of other things going on. Or it’s her period. Everyone is different. I started at 11, my best friend at 9. It’s not uncommon. But probably best to see your pediatrician.

I started at 9 so did my niece

If you’ve seen breast buds, pubic hair…. It’s not unreasonable to think she is starting. 9-13 is the range of normal with some outliers.

I started my period when I was 8 (almost 9)

I was 8 when I started. Now because of that my nieces have been prepared just in case they start as early as I did. Everyone is different.

My best friend when I was a kid, started when she was 9. I was almost 13 I do believe. So yes it happens.

My friends daughter just started at 7

It’s now very common for girls to start between 8/0 years old. It’s to do with the additives in food. I’d take her to see a doctor to see if there is any other reason first.

My mom was 16 when she started. Mom was born 1911

I got mine on my 12th birthday…of all days right? Lol but it is normal to get ur period at 9. Even some little girls get it as early as 7. And because she just started it maybe starting out as spotting or only last a day. If u have concerns take her to her dr just to make sure

My daughter is 9 she has been in prepublecent since she was 6. She has no hair yet except her legs. She is budding and wears sportbras. She knows the talk and it will be a year or so when she starts. My best advice is talk to her. Let her know it’s okay and normal. Their are girls in my daughter’s class who have started already.

My daughter started when she was 8 and a half. She only bleeds for like 2 days and it’s not allot. She knows what to do. Her chest started to develop a month before she started. She definitely has the mood swings a week before lol we have 3 more girls that will be the same age soon. Pray for my husband lol

My daughter is 9 and has been developing over the last year, she’s not started her period yet but it’s no far away going by her behaviour and general moodiness

My daughter started at 9. I spoke to her teacher to let her know and she said she had supplies just in case. 3rd grade! It’s so crazy to me.

Yep. My very first “period” hit me at 9 years old in gym class. Didn’t have another until I was 11 and again, in gym class :joy: Definitely something to discuss with her doctor, but it is totally normal and she’s gonna be okay!

Not everyone is the same.

I was 9 when mine started.
Also my 12 yr old had the same thing happen. She was at a ballgame and just a little blood was in her undies. It was the next month she started hers.

I started at 9 my daughter got hers two months after turning 10
