Advice on puberty in young girls

I was 11 and it did spot one day then about 5 days later started and lasted 15 days. I was sure I was dying.

Take her to the doctor so that they can answer all your questions. Could be a uti. You’ll continue wondering what’s going on with her until you hear from a medical professional.

I was 7 when I started getting my boobs and 8 when I got my first period. Totally possible and mine wasn’t regular and consistent for a couple years. I only remember because my mom freaked out I hadn’t had a cycle in awhile and I was like 9

My oldest had a little discharge at 9 And then nothing until 11 when she started her period.

Could have been a urinary tract infection. Take her to the doctor

I was 12 and for the first two years my “periods” were only spotting.

My daughter is 9. She started going through puberty last year (budding breasts, hair in places)
We have had the period talk and she keeps a pad in a purse in a school bag.
I had a friend in my primary school that started young and I believe after the first bleed there was nothing for a while. I myself was 13 but I think things are happening younger now so it’s good to he prepared.

My eldest started hers when she was 10 so It’s completely normal.

I was 11 when I started mine. Girls seem to be starting earlier and earlier as time goes on…I personally blame it on what’s in our food and products we use nowadays :woman_shrugging:

They our getting them younger now my sisters kids started around 10 so very normal

I was 10 and started with light spotting then nothing for ages. I was terrified as we didn’t learn about it at that age but it’s very normal. Growth hormones in food are making children hit puberty even earlier these days

My little sister started her period around 9/10 it wasn’t too regular at first though

This happened to me then the week before my 10th birthday I had a full blown period xx

I started at 9 my daughter started at 10. It happens. It’s all the hormones they put in food

I was barely 10 when I started and it was very light.

My daughter started in 3rd grade. Not my experience at all, I was in middle school.

I started a month before I turned 8.

My 11 year old started at 10 so it’s definitely possible

I started at 10. Very normal.

My step daughter started her period at 9.5.

kids are going through puberty earlier and earlier now a days.

I don’t think girls are starting earlier and earlier… I started my period at 9. There were a couple of girls in my class that had started that early as well. Everyone’s body is different.

My daughter is 11, she has been developing since 9 and had spotting one day a few months ago. I made her go wipe again and there was nothing. She always tells me when something is different or bothering her. I’m a stay at home mom and she isn’t around anyone unless they come to our house. All the hormones in the foods we eat is causing our children to develop at a faster rate than when we were younger. My grandmother started at 9, my mom and I were both 13 so I know my daughter could start at any time now.

My daughter has friends that were 10 when they started. I got my daughter period panties, they build the pad into the panties. I did get some for myself to try it out before lol they work well surprisingly, they have a dark liner so it won’t be obvious to kids at school she started. I recommend this because the elementary schools aren’t really set up for girls starting their periods, they should be.

Please do not ask me why i know this but my mother started her period when she was only 9, so it does happen.

I started at 10, it definitely can happen!

I started when I was 9

it is normal for kids to start at 9 and not be regular for a couple months

I spotted 1 day and then started a month or two later for real. My first several were a day or two at most

I was 9 when i started my period and was in a 34c bra at the same time. I bloomed almost quite literally overnight. It sounds normal.

When did her father’s mother start her menstrual cycle as she is more like her genetically…also a diet high in fats can stimulate hormones…

It’s normal one of my daughters did this for a day then it was years before she started

I was a full blown woman at 10

I started my period at 9 but mine was like a blood bath. I actually had to be put on birth control and another medication to help regulate and because I was losing so much blood constantly. So I have no idea about spotting but at that age can definitely be period starting soon.

Yes it’s normal for there
to be spotting and light periods in the early days. It can take about a year or so for it to be regular.

My oldest just had her first time last month and she just turned 10 in June.

It’s normal. My daughter spotted for a while before it came full force. But if in doubt it’s not a bad idea to call your family doctor and ask if they do exams and explain that once you start it’s time for womanly visits. Explain what they look for. Privately tell your doc what’s going on and you asked if she was inappropriately touched. Also a side note, it doesn’t take a noticeable accident for the hymen to break if that’s a concern as well.
If she is beginning to start her period, getting panty liners to wear daily might be a good idea just in case she has some break through spotting. Make her a cute cross over bag with emergency supplies like clean panties and pads or whatever she chooses to use. It’s rough to have them start much younger than many of us did. Most bathrooms for kids that age do not have the trash bins in the stalls for the girls to dispose of feminine hygiene products. Maybe some doggie poo bags that are colored for discretion and to bag up any soiled panties to wash at home would be a good thing to slide in there.

Yes it’s normal I had mine young and my oldest has also started young and every girl is different tho I have 4 girls and there all starting at different ages

I was 9 when i started. I had small boobs by then. I can remember i was on holiday and i had blood running down my leg i was a complete mess:rofl::woman_facepalming: i had a heavy one and then missed a few months and was on and off for a year untill regular.

I started at 10 didn’t happen again for a year and on my 11th birthday it came again and I’ve had it ever since🤷‍♀️ just make sure she knows it’s normal. Not to be scared and how to take care of herself!!

I started when I was 8 years old but it was a HEAVY bleed so I knew right away it was my period.

My daughter started her period at 8.5 years old

Yes it can be normal, my daughter had a few shows of starting her period when she was 8, by the time she was 9 they were coming every month like clock work.

Yes I started at 9spotted the 1st couple times the full on

Yes its normal I started at 9 as well

I was 8 when I got my period…totally normal and more common than people think

I started at 9. Trust me it sucks ass and it took me a full year to start getting regular periods. Just start building a little welcome to womanhood kit completed with her favorite candies, pads, tampons, period panties, and etc because if she’s really is on her period she’ll be prepared and if not then you have one prepared for when she does.

I started at 8 but I only spotted till I was about 10

My daughter was 9 and a half when she first started similar happened then the month later she had an actual period

Its normal for periods to start like this. It’s also normal to not bleed again for months or years. Or could the next month

But another question to ask could be if she’s itchy or sore when she goes to the toilet. Just to rule out a UTI

This happened to me. I started my period at 9 years old and then after that I didn’t get one again for a few months.

My stepdaughter started that age. I believe the doctors want to see them to do basic workup if they start that early but it’s usually “normal”. (I say “normal” because it is -but in reality women are starting their periods earlier and earlier because of negative environmental factors.)

My sister started her period at age 9.

My daughter started at 9, on and off for a few months then became regular. I started at 9 too so had already had the puberty talk with her xx

Yes my daughter was 9 years old

My daughter started at 9 as well. Skipped a month or two, then has been regular since.

my daughter would spot her and there between 9-10 and at 11 is when she got her full blown period

My sister & someone on my husbands side started that young. It does feel crazy cause 9 is so young still & obviously for you it’s your baby so it’s so much but it is normal. But I’m more here to follow comments because my daughter is 9 & a half & also has started developing & things I’ve noticed like it’s coming but I just was hoping it would be another year or two also like you said. But now I’m paranoid it might start like this & I don’t want her caught off guard. We never had a full conversation about periods… she’s only ever asked about it when walking in on me in the bathroom. She knows it’s called a period & that women all get them sooner or later but that’s pretty much the extent. Idk if I should be telling her more yet or not. So I wanna follow for some input on what others have done or how they handled it!

my cousin knew a 7 year old who started. it’s normal for a brand new period to be inconsistent

Yes, girls are starting very young now. I blame all the chemicals bin the foods.

I started at 10, and was not the first in my group of friends.

My sister was 9 when she started, so was my stepdaughter.

it’s normal… nowadays women are starting their periods earlier and earlier because of negative environmental factors as well as obesity/being overweight and the types of chemicals etc. that we put into our bodies. i didn’t start mine until i was 15 but i was also very underweight throughout school.

My eight year old started her period on Monday and did the same thing. It’s pretty normal to do that for the first month or so. I had several talks with her before hand in case she started at school since I was nine when I had mine and legit thought I was dying.

I’ve noticed it starting earlier in girls now. I was 12 as were most of my classmates.

I started when I was 9, exactly 15 days before my 10th birthday.

I started my period when I was 9 as well. By the time I hit 7th grade I was put on birth control ( do not recommend) because of how heavy my periods were. They started out very light though.

I got my first period right after my 10th birthday and them didn’t get it again until I was 12. I think the hormones in food are causing it

My granddaughter started at 9

I didn’t start mine til I was 14. All my younger sisters started at 10,11,12. So I’d say it is possible at 9

One of my daughters was in 5th grade and barely 10 and one was in 7th grade. They have friends that started in 3rd/4th grade.

I had spotting on/off from age 10 until I got my period when I was 12? I think. Lol. I honestly can’t remember how old I was. Just what grade I was in :grimacing:

My daughter started her period when she was 9. Not sure if you’ve sat her down and gave her the 411 on periods, but I think now would be a good time.

They are starting younger. Usually a year or so after breast budding. My daughter started when she was 10 and my friends daughter started when she was 9. Make her a little bag that she can keep in her backpack with the essentials and have the conversation with her on what to do and to call you if she bleeds through her clothes.

My daughter started shortly after she turned 9.

I was 9 when I started :woman_shrugging:t2:. Definitely make her a bag to take to school , my daughter has one with pads , tampons , extra panties & Chocolate also midol.

Sounds normal to me. The period may not be regular for many years and some women never get a regular period. My first time I had about a day of blood and then nothing for several months.

My daughter started her period at 9

I was 10. So yes I believe it’s possible

I was 8 when I started my period…

Yes it is normal. I had mine at 9 as well. Usually the best indicator for getting your period is if you have armpit hair.

I started at 11 lol my sister started at 10. It’s def possible, as my niece started at 11 too. Just keep a watch over her for when it starts full force.

It’s totally possible! Girls are starting their periods earlier than we did!

Young one - today’s young ladies are developing earlier. This is normal - also her menstrual cycle won’t be regular at first. Remember back when we had “accidents” during an activity or school. You all will be fine.

My daughter started hers at nine.

I think it’s different with everyone. When I started I was around 11 and it was brown in color so I didn’t really understand what it was, even though I knew what a period was. Spotting/irregular bleeding is common.

Yes this is totally normal! The age of first menstruation has been going down over the last couple decades

I started at 9. Perfectly normal. It wont stabilise for awhile, if it does stabilise. Every girls body is different.
