AITA for telling my MIL I will not use used baby items?

There is nothing wrong with getting used clothes for babies. You save lots of money. They grow out of them fast. You should be happy that you mil cares and takes time out of her day. Sounds like you have money to blow. Save money for schools.

Honestly I feel the same way about used things. Not so much toys but feeding things yes. I don’t know why but it skeeves me out. But I would’ve just accepted the stuff she got and gave it away again instead of causing an issue.

Then they will grow up thinking everything should be handed to them will never learn the value of a dollar and end up raising selfish kids themselves but guess what here’s the kicker you’ll never have a moment’s peace

Wash the clothes and I mean If you and your husband can afford it by yourself without anyones help then tell them but if you do in fact need some kind of help kids grow so fast they get it dirty most things from a thrift store come almost brand new some with tags and some without but brand new. Ide say stop being so picky and accept the help if you need it and maybe his mom can’t afford that much but still wants to feel involved and help

I mean yeah you are, they are just being nice. Also who tf cares if it’s used. You’ll get to a phase you start selling your kids shit too. Must be your first :joy: good luck. By the sounds of it you’ll be tired in no time doing it alone.

Wow! How selfish of you.

You got issues. Apparently you’re spoiled and expect to continue to be your whole life. I hope that works out for you.
Be grateful she’s getting your children anything

You’re just a snobby, inconsiderate, ungrateful b*tch. Even if you don’t use them, how about you be a little bit more grateful that she’s thinking of you and your baby. There are a ton of people who would give anything for someone like her in their life.

If you want YOUR child to have ALL new sh*t then maybe you as the mother should buy it, an the dad you are part of what’s wrong with today’s world be grateful you have a MIL that cares an hell that might be all she can afford but she wants to help an you sound soooooooo ungreartful I can’t STAND PEOPLE like you :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Ever hear of soap and water? You got more money than brains, the way kids grow out of clothes, used clothes are the best play clothes

Of course but wait till they are teens. Suddenly they will be GIRLS.

You should be honest. If you don’t want used things, be honest. Your MIL is spending money she may not have. You’re being selfish about this. Even if you’re the AH, honesty is always the way to go.

I appreciated everything my in-laws bought my kids didn’t matter if it was brand new or second hand. Some of their favorite toys were purchased at yard sales

There were some things I wanted new and others were fine used. Car seat - new, anything clothing or blanket related if it was free of stains and very soft then used or new was fine. Crib - new

Hun your in for a surprise at how expensive baby stuff is.

I think its great you want all brand new for your baby… Nothing wrong in a difference in OPINION. Which from the looks of this thread noone can have. On the other hand. Maybe ask her to keep those things for her house. So when she has the baby she can do as she sees fit.

You sound like a snobbish b*tch. There is literally NOTHING wrong with used stuff. Hope nobody gets you shit for your little brat going forward

Those new clothes at stores get tried on, touched by tons of people and thrown/dropped on the floor just to be hung right back up. Rather it’s brand new or used it should be washed first. I’m not going to lie you sound like a little entitled brat. I mean not everyone can afford brand new or even if they could they’ve had experience to know that hand-me-downs are just as good. After having four children I buy new clothes and have hand-me-downs for my boy’s and I can honestly tell you most the hand-me-downs that I’ve bought lasted longer than the new “name brand” stuff that I’ve bought them. You really should take a deep breath and think is this really worth breaking the grandma’s heart? No matter how you go about telling her it’s going to make her feel bad. I also want to say that it’s obvious that this will be your first child. Trust me when I say that baby’s grow us soo fast. Also once they start crawling and walking you might not want to be such a germaphobe. Baby’s turn into kids and kids are sticky and dirty lol. Good luck.

Just keep the things she gives you and as your baby gets older donate the used ones she gives you. She probably will never know the difference and she’s just trying to help.

I have always bought my kids new stuff which I think is fine. If you can afford it and that is what you want then ok. Maybe just donate the items and thank your mother-in-law? Don’t be rude about it.

Wow … You can wash them . Babies usually don’t wear the clothes once or twice before they out grow them . You should be thankful. Sounds like you’re disrespectful & non- appreciate of her help.

I cant wrap my head around this…
But I dont have to. You do you.
As a mom of 4, used is A-ok with me. My kids eat dirt :woman_shrugging::rofl:

I mean you can want new things for your baby. But if it’s that serious you will be the one buying it all. Not everyone can afford to buy everything new for other people’s kids. If you don’t want used things then donate the items you have gotten from her or post them in local free groups. Saying getting used things for babies is “gross” is pretty rude though. Sound super unappreciative and disrespectful. Why spend $60 on a jumper when someone is either give one away or selling one they don’t need anymore for $15. That poor woman just wants to help and give her grand baby some things and buying them cheaper then store price she can get more then just one thing for the kid.

Ungrateful sounds like it to me :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I love I mean love yard sales thrift shops, I would totally get a van load up a bunch of friends go shopping lol who’s with me :joy:

Your kids your choice…must be nice to be that rich…I was always grateful for anyone who thought that much of my children .Things can be cleaned and sanitized!!!

Wow ew so you’re like anti-thrifting and that sounds depressing asf.

You are being an very ungreatful snob… Try washing things… Nothing wrong with second hand items…

You can wash/ sterilise most things! There are some things I wouldn’t reuse (mattress, cuddle toys) but it’s incredibly wasteful to just discard these items that are often only used for short periods. I was always very grateful for ‘used things’. Be kind to the environment!

Oh my! Funny thing is that I had always thought I’d like to have a Nothing New baby shower! Yep, I wanted all hand me downs, thrift store stuff. The cost of new items for a baby is simply ridiculous and none of it will ever get worn out, so why not?

You will find out soon enough that babies grow fast & might only wear an outfit once or twice.
I would wash all the items she gives and use your money on things that you will need - like diapers & formula.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard something so stuck up & ungrateful lol
