Can you microwave a bottle to warm it up?

Room temperature water

We always microwaved the water in a bowl. Then put the bottle in it and let it warm that way. Never microwave the actual bottle itself. Or get a bottle warmer; I wished I would’ve got a traveling one.

I warmed my sons bm in a lager glass that way it disbursed the heat but only 30 seconds so it wasn’t really warm then transferred it to the bottle which helped mix the temperature and we never had any issues

I used to boil the kettle at night, fill all the bottles with the right amount in the morning and measure out the right amount of formula into little pots. When baby was hungry, zap the water for 30-40 seconds in the microwave, add formula and shake, easy peasy.
I know the advice is not to microwave due to the risk of hot spots, but it’s a liquid - just shake it!

It’s so risky, and just not worth it. As others have mentioned, microwaves can create hot spots in the formula that can burn baby. Never microwave breastmilk… you destroy the nutrients.

I have. Just make sure it’s well shaken.

Or

Heat the water in the mic and put the bottle on the hot water.

Nope. I always did room temp for my daughter. So much easier to start them out with that than getting them used to warm milk all the time bc its just not possible if you’re out and about.

I have 4 kiddos all formula fed. I would buy 2 gallons of water and leave at room temperature. After one was gone I’d fill it up and leave it out. I never got my kids used to warm bottles because that would be hard to do while out and about.

I normally boiled the bottle.

Never microwave formula!

I do and twins are fine and did it with my 4 year old and she is never sick :woman_shrugging:

Don’t microwave formula. Keep the water room temp. After you make a bottle it’s only good for an hour too. You can’t pre make them and warm later.

I always just used room temperature water.

I half fill the bottle with cold boiled water then top it up with hot boiling water trial and error to get exactly right but it’s quicker than waiting as some babies choose not to

I used a glass with warm water and the bottle soak in it

Technically you’re not supposed to but let’s be real in the middle of the night who’s going to wait for water to boil on the stove…

Nope. Just turn on the tap. You only need it slightly warm. If using bottled water, put in a coffee mug filled with hot water for a few minutes. Wrist test so its not too hot and don’t forget to burp the bottle after shaking.:footprints::heart:

I wouldn’t advise nuking formula, Or reheating formula that has already been heated once. But i think its reasonable to nuke the water, Before adding formula. I would nuke my youngests bottles for 30secs (120ml) and it was warm but never hot (always check first)

Edit to add: i have used a microwave for the water before and id do it again in a pinch. Life happens.

2 things I swear by:
#1 Baby Brezza Instant Warmer: you put the water in and it KEEPS IT AT TEMP so you never actually have to heat the bottle. Sure, heating the bottle is only a minute or so. But dang if that minute isn’t forever with a screaming baby.
#2 Babys Brew Travel Warmer: warms the water or formula to a set temp and keeps it there. Lifesaver. Also safely warms breastmilk.

Our little was classified as extreme colic with silent acid reflux. She also has the milk protein allergy and had to be out on the special formula. These 2 things really made life SO MUCH BETTER.

I used an electric bottle warmer
Luckily I had to wake my daughter for her feeding and wasn’t awaken by a hangry baby!

All I did was wait for the water out of the faucet to get warm enough and use that in the bottle and put the formula in and shake it up well!! Luckily my kids are between 2 1/2 and 10, I do miss the stage though❤

I used to microwave the water and then mix in the formula after I got desired temp (less chance of the water not being the same temp all the way through after its been shaken up that much)

I always used room temp water. I bought a case of water from the store. At home I’d refill them with tap water. For his diaper bag I’d just throw a couple unopened in there. I did get a few jugs of pre-made formula from a friend and they needed to be refrigerated after the seal was broke. If I knew it was close to feeding time I’d put some in a bottle and let it float in hot water until he was ready for it.
ALSO a good trick for on the go formula: Amazon sells resealable popsicle bags. Can fit at least 8oz of formula in each one. It’s a bit time consuming to put them together but so worth it when you’re trying to make a quick bottle in public!

I’ve done it for a year now and no problems at all. My daughter has been sick 1 time since she was born so no issues here

I did that with all my 4 kids. I only put the bottle in with water for a few seconds 15 seconds so it doesnt get too hot. Then you add the formula.

I used to keep it water at room temp and warm it up in a jug of hot water… I’d make a hot bottle before I went to bed them by the time they woke up it was still warm x

Theres no hot spots when u add cold water to the microwaved water… I add 4 oz of cold water and 3 oz of 30 sec microwaved water. It’s luke warm then I add formula.

Yep. Just make sure to give it a good shake to remove hotspots and do the heat test on your wrist

Cows milk is fine but not formula, use a hot tap or get a bottle warmer

Yes with all 3 and there all perfectly fine

I just used warm water to make the formula.

Buy a good thermos to hold boiled water, add cold water and pre mwasured formula. We can whip up a bottle in a minute at night.

Used the microwave from the day I started bottle feeding.

It doesn’t have to be warmed at all

When I removed my pumped breast milk from the fridge the bottle went into a rubbermaid container with warm water for a few minutes, I shook it and then tested it on the inside of my wrist to make sure it wasn’t too hot for baby.

I always do BUT not long like 15 seconds and I always check it before giving it to my daughter

Bottle warmers take too long definitely do not recommend them

I’ve always microwaved but only a little at a time and make sure it is properly mixed to avoid hot spots.

So my oldest was formula fed. I used to warm hers via the microwave except what I would do is I would put the water into a mug warm for about 20 seconds and then I would transfer the water from the mug into the bottle and then add the formula.

Microwaves cause hotspots in bottles. ( like when your eating a pizza rolls and suddenly that one bite scorches your tongue)
Not very safe at all.
Safest to use the nursery water at room temp.

Never did it. I did do the room temperature water thing and my kiddo didn’t have any issues.

Depending on the amount I’d only do around 6 seconds for 4 ozs and I’d gradually add a couple seconds when I’d add an oz. I shook the bottle a lil to distribute the heat and I’d always check it before giving it. Never had a problem.

Unless your baby specifically likes it warmed then I wouldn’t bother. My daughter would not take a bottle if I warmed it up. My friends daughter however wouldn’t take it if it wasn’t warmed up.

I can’t remember why but its recommended not to. We always do room temperature distilled or purified water for formula

No never microwave a bottle. It will get too hot and you could burn the baby’s mouth! Always always use a cup of hot water and put the bottle inside it to warm it up

If you’re making a fresh bottle just use room temperature bottled water

I mean I always did and it worked perfectly good.

I always would boil water in the microwave then let the bottle sit for a minute. That got old quick. Problem with warming it, baby’s screaming hungry by the time I remember to start warming. Plus, what about when you’re running errands or decide to go for a walk, or visiting someone and now you’ve only got chilled milk and no way to warm it but baby won’t take it any other way? So once I stopped pumping and using strictly formula, I stopped warming it.

My little girls always preferred theirs either room temp or cold

Room temp is what I usually did; purely out of laziness and convenience. The odd time I’d use the bottle warmer to feel fancy; luckily my little man didn’t mind either way.

We used a bottle warmer

I warm up the water for 10 seconds 2 oz, 15 seconds 4 oz, and 20 seconds 6oz. Then I add the formula. I keep water at room temperature too. If my son doesn’t finish his bottle I then put it on the fridge and use the bottle warmer to warm it up. Discard after 24hrs.

I never used the microwave… boiled the kettle and warmed it up. I don’t own a microwave bad for your health and child_health

Nope do not u mic crow ave to warm up bottle. It destroy the vitamin in the formula or breastmilk your baby needs. It does take any longer to run hot water over the bottle

Nope…microwave a cup or bowl of water and then place the bottle in it to warm.

The microwave can break down the milk or formula or creat hot spots

We kept jugs of water room temperature. When a bottle had to be refrigerated we used the microwave with no problems. No 5-10 seconds at a time. Shake it up well. 5 beautiful, healthy kids ages 22, 20, 16, 13 and 12 all survived and thrived!!:grin:

With my first child, it was all that new mom stress about putting the bottle in a cup of warm water to warm it. With the twins a year later, it was “here. Have a room temp bottle”… and 3 months after that, it was “heres a bottle from the fridge”

Technically you can use the microwave to heat up water. But it would be healthier to get a water dispenser and add hot water with cold to make it warm. it’s easy and you would not be exposing your child to radiation.

I microwaved the avent bottles for 30sec at a time, only once for a small bottle but always without the lid. You just check the temp and be careful. Middle of the night I can’t be patient.

If you’re worried about microwaving the formula itself in the water, then just heat the water first and add formula to the warmth xx

I’ve always microwaved mine :relieved:

I microwaved the water if it had to be bottled water, shook it up and tested it on my wrist before adding the formula. If not I just used warm tap water from the faucet.

Lazy ass slacker moms using a microwave to heat formula or feeding your babies warm tap water :nauseated_face::face_vomiting:

Room temp bottle water.

I always put hot water in a bigger cup then the formula in there to warm up. Occasionally if my container wasnt big enough id switch the water out a time or 2 if needed but I started letting it get more to room temp the older he got since milk if typically cold to help the transition.

No. You get hot spots if you use the microwave. It’s better to just use a jug of hot water.

Only in 10 second intervals and always test it on your wrist before feeding.

I used a Thermos of hot water. And a Thermos of cooled water if the water was too hot.
Until one better not use microwave. Im crazy tho I steered clear from the microwave.
