Can you put cereal in babies bottle?

Enfamil AR Lipil has rice in it. My preemie was on it back in 2007 my girls didn’t get cereal till 4 months. My preemie now is 7 months and he didn’t get cereal till 6 months

I used a small amount of cereal in my son’s milk when he was about 4 or so months old.

I did immediately…one weighed 9lb4oz the other was 9lb8oz . They were taking full bottles right away

2 weeks with first 1 month with 2nd but she didn’t like it

3 months is what everyone ik did… they used the powder cereal n mixed it with formula… doctors said that it was something to help get them sleeping thru the night and keeping them full longer. It is safe and is doctor approved

Also, to those saying it’s unsafe many doctors suggest it for reflux issues and more nutrition so its fine

Around 4 months,my Daughter was a big baby at birth 9lbs,and a bottle didn’t satisfy her ,so I added rusks to her formula,

At 2 weeks I fed my baby, with a spoon, liquidy rice cereal and formula

Oatmeal cereal has nutrients rice cereals dont

I never put cereal in the bottle but at about 3 to 4 weeks I would give some at night

3 boys. I never added it to any of their bottles until #3 taught me all about acid reflux. He couldn’t take a bottle without it or he’d throw up instantly. You do whatever YOU feel is best. You know some of the AllstarPTAMoms gonna hate. It’s what’s they do. I’m all about supporting each other in our own parenting journeys. Whatever path you choose.

At 2 months with all 4 baby’s

I wouldn’t suggest it but thats your choice please look into it an do your research whatever you choose after that is all you momma.

Never! It’s a choking hazard. And I didn’t do rice cereal at all because it has no nutritional value.

My son’s Dr recommend putting rice cereal in his bottle when he was 2months because he had reflux

6 months after Dr approval and by spoon vs approval

5 weeks in bottle after her seizure from REFLUX. She hasn’t had problems since

If you babies doctor doesn’t recommend you do it due to failure to thrive or severe reflux, do not do this. Never in a bottle! There are special circumstances that it can be helpful, but if you’re doing this to give yourself more sleep at night, stop. Cereal is not to be used to make life with a baby more convenient. Cereal should be used to help introduce solids and help with certain medical issues.

Tried at 3 months,my youngest hates it!

Never. Because it’s a big choking hazard.

4 months… but never in bottle. Spoon fed only

I did it at 4/5 months all babies are different.

Never. Was told not to by drs.

I kept just formula till 5 months then added tiny amounts of cereal so it was still very watered down from the formula every day for 2 weeks them gradually added a little more every 2 weeks till about 6months or so then started spoon feeding

I just started my son on oatmeal cereal in his bottle right before bed. He slept good last night and hasn’t screamed because of his reflux. Rice cereal also constipates them, the oatmeal helps them go.

4 months because of reflux

I did with both mine around 4 mo🤷🏼

3mos per my peds doc. He was just really hungry and i didnt produce enough breast milk.

It’s a choking hazard to feed cereal in a bottle

4mo and it def did keep my babe more full bc she sleeps thru the night when she had a bottle with rice and even now (8mo) she sleeps thru the night if she has a bowl of cereal with her bottle before bed

With each by 1 month. Enfamil A.R has it already in it and works wonders!

With my first I gave him some because that’s what you were “supposed” to do by normal standards. But when I looked more into stuff with my second I realized that it does nothing for baby but fatten them up. It would be like you or me just eating a big bowl of rice with our food so we eat less actual food. Fine for us to do as adults, but not for babes. They need the nutrition from the formula/breast milk because they’re growing so much.

6 months but not in the bottle babies fat cells have developed by then and less likely to cause obesity later in life

Never. It’s not beneficial and gives no nutritional value

2 months for reflux my son needed a thicker milk

When my son was 3 or 4 months he was eating like 2 bottles every feeding so the dr told me to put cereal in his bottles

I did with my first, because of what I was told, then I read up on it and I found out it was not a smart thing to do. And now more research that rice cereal isnt really even good for them at all. It’s your choice but I wouldnt put it in a bottle, I would mix it with breast milk or formula whatever you use and spoon feed, if you choose.

I’ve never done it but also I don’t have a reason too

Never, it can cause server constipation and it’s really not necessary. Breast feeding mom’s can’t add cereal so I’ve never understood why mom’s that bottle feed think cereal is needed. And if you do it so they sleep through the night that’s just wrong, yes it keeps them fuller but not what they truly need.

One month as per his doctor

Only time its EVER recommended is if baby has reflux issues. And if thats the case it should only be done under close instruction from a pediatrician. But even there there are formulas with added rice starch (similac sensitive for spit up, enfamil ar) to help reflux, making the haby cereal unnecessary.

My girl was 3 months and my son was 2 months. Not every bottle though.

. She didn’t ask about what your Dr or research said, All Drs are different. Some Drs will say to give it to them for one reason or another, some will say never. she didn’t ask for nutrition facts, she didn’t ask your personal thoughts on baby cereal. She didn’t ask WHY you would or wouldn’t give a baby cereal in formula. she asked when you’re baby started it. Answer the question she asked or move on!

1 mth I put a little cereal in her formula or breastmilk because she had both. That is my experience and it worked for my child she is not almost 2

I did it will all three of my kids and they were just fine. I did it at 4 months with all of them and nothing bad ever happened. Only my youngest had reflux. Which i have never known to do this with reflux babies only. That’s a bunch of bologna .

Never. You shouldnt put solids in bottles, it’s a choking hazard. Cereal also is basically empty calories, and it’s difficult to digest. Breastmilk and formula are much healthier options, as they contain more iron, and are more nutrient dense. Children also don’t develop the enzyme amylase (which helps breaks down grains) until 6-12 months old. You should introduce nutrient dense foods like meat, liver, bone broth, egg yolk, bananas/avocados and green veggies at 6 months.

I never did i always used a spoon but now my 4month grandson has to have cereal due to spitting up

Definitely don’t do it any earlier than 6 months. A baby’s tummy can’t handle it. Their stomachs aren’t developed enough to be able to digest it properly

My dr recommended this ONLY because my daughter had bad GERD

Never. Not recommended because it isn’t safe.

About a month. My son screamed day in and day out…after trying everything from constant feeding, holding, meds for gas/heartburn, car rides to get him to go to sleep, etc., guess what? He was just hungry and formula and breast milk just wasn’t enough. Rice cereal in his bottle and finally he was full!! Also, he would only sleep on his stomach, he screamed on his back. Oh, he’s 13 now and getting all A’s in school. You as the parent choose what’s best for your child. I got bitched at by a doctor for stomach sleeping and the rice cereal, but my son was almost 10 pounds…lifting his head perfectly from birth. Some babies may be too small or fragile for this, so use common sense is all…

With my son, at 8 weeks when I switched to formula from breastfeeding cause he had really bad acid reflux and it helped him a lot. With my daughter I just started putting it in her bottle at 6 months cause she has started to chug bottles so fast,no matter the size of the nipple, that she almost sounds like she is choking. So I started putting a little in there to make it thicker and it seems to help her a lot!

Never. Just dont forget rice cereal contains arsenic.

4 weeks :woman_shrugging:t2: i used oatmeal, rice made him constipated. it helped him not spit up as much and it kept him more satisfied

I did this with my first at 4 months and when he started solids I had to put it in his bottle it was the only way he would eat cuz he had a bad gag reflux i felt so bad for him.

My son’s pediatrician told us 4 months. She told me to do it to help with sleep.

About 5-6 months old because just formula wasn’t filling him up anymore

About a month old. Helped with my daughter’s reflux, and she stopped projectile spitting up.

3 or 4 months to help keep the formula down, he spit up less as recommended by his ped

Depend on the baby and the doc. My first, doc was against it. 2nd, I was told to at about 2 months because we were having so much spitup because he wanted more oz per bottle but could hold it down so we made less oz and added cereal to make it more filling. 3rd was at 3 months for same reason and her doc was ok with it when I told them

I never did put it in their bottle I just made it and spoon fed them at 4 much then at 6 months went on to solid food

3 months but not in a bottle.

My daughter was a little over a month old. She wasn’t getting full enough on just breast milk.

Feeding more often because the milks not enough…around 4 mos. Old

I never did because I heard so many story’s about baby’s chocking on the cereal in the milk . its dangerous in my opinion I Think its safer not to at all.

3 to 4 months whenever baby can hold head up

I did at 2 months old with my daughter and 6 weeks old with my son.

4 months I started him on baby oatmeal.

My pediatrician advised against it as it is a highly processed food. She simply recommended starting foods with her like avocados, carrots, bananas pureed.

I tried it then noticed it would clog the nipple and she wouldn’t be getting any and get frustrated. I tried making the nipple bigger only to make it too big so I gave up. If you’re going to give cereal, just spoon feed.

I’ve never done that. I would give her oatmeal with some formula and 1/2 jar of bananas or peaches mixed together in a bowl. Heated it up till warm.

You don’t that is dangerous it can cause choking even pediatricians do not recommend that

We started when he was almost 6 weeks because 2 days before he was discharged from the NICU he started getting very bad reflux and couldn’t keep just the milk down.

No age ever. Lol. It’s just not needed. And even unhealthy. They don’t need anything but formula or breast milk until 6 months old. If they can’t eat it off a spoon they don’t need it in a bottle. But if you want to that ask your child’s Dr. For advice. 5 months seems like the soonest. And never give rice cereal. It’s full of arsenic. Spoon feeding cream of wheat or cream of whole wheat or cooked pureed oatmeal at the right age (7 months) is 100x better and healthier for baby than those boxes of instant “baby cereal”

Early on. Like 2 months. He had horrible reflux and this was the only way to keep food down.

At 4 weeks and only a tiny bit. No side effects and they are now in their late 30s

I gave my daughter cereal in a bowl, mixed with formula. Then the rest of the formula stayed in the bottle.

I do. Just cut a bigger hole in the nipple.:woman_shrugging:

7 months, only the bedtime bottle. She was always a hungry lil monster and that was the only way she could sleep peacefully

I did it at 3 months and then stopped until she was 5 and a half she was fine

Pediatrician told me yesterday that my 4 month old can start with rice for a few days and if they are interested, you can move on with veggies

I never did but my baby ate fruits and cereal at 3 months, whenever they sit up they are aloud to start food training

Never! It’s actually a choking hazard & not recommended. Plus, it’s empty calories & has no nutritional value & has arsenic in it.

The suggestions have changed dramatically over the last 2 decades I have had children. They used to recommend this, but now they don’t. It is ultimately what is best for your baby that you and pediatrician decide.

1-2 mos with my 5 girls…

My daughter is almost 5 and I still haven’t done it so NEVER.

I never did give my kids cereal I always gave them milk and soild food .I always had our food blend food for both of my kids

Never. It’s actually harmful to baby. No food or water until after 6 months. Even then, rice cereal holds no nutritional value, so we’ve never done it. There’s better ways to supplement and support baby

Its your child! And if you wanna give that baby cereal do it I dis it with all 3 of my kids they are all very healthy with the arsenic I feed them lol but its a choking hazard becausw mom’s thjnk its ok to leave the bottle proped up thats dangerous and is the choking hazard.

Yea propping is just laziness i had all 3 of my girls on whole milk at like 6 weeks an cereal they are all healthy an they got their little tummy’s full an happy that was a long time ago

I never put baby cereal in a bottle with formula. I fed my two oldest children cereal mixed with formula at 2 months.

I started introducing a tea spoon of rice cereal to my 3 month old baby and hes now 2 years old as healthy as ever did no harm

My pediatrician told me that rice cereal is just to teach baby how to eat that has no nutritional value, it shouldn’t be added to bottles. it’s good for mixing with baby foods and the beginning so your baby can transition to food without upsetting their tummy too much

I gave my baby the baby oatmeal at 6 months. The rice has no nutritional value whatsoever and can make them constipated.

6 months. I’ve read and seen that rice cereal is completely unnecessary so at 6 months I started my boy on oatmeal.

Her pediatrician advised to put a little in the bottle at 2 months old because was always hungry and bowls spoon fed it around 4 months after making sure able to eat banana baby food

I never did. I used his formula to make cereal when we started on foods at 4 months but no cereal in his bottles.

In my state at 6 months they give these on wic and recommend to start feeding baby food and soft non baby food

Never added anything to formula. Did try rice cereal at 4 to 6 months. Better to just breast feed or bottle without extra food for as long as possible. The little digestive system have such difficulty breaking cereal down.

When he was eating 2 bottles every2 hours.
