Do you let your son play with nerf guns?

I have a daughter and we love nurf guns. So much fun. Harmless, a little messy but hours of fun indoors.

I have an almost 13yr old and 10yr old girls. I plan on getting them new Nerf guns in a week or 2 actually and also their dad and I some too.

Yes. Because theyā€™re fun. Rule isā€¦ no aiming at faces

I have 2 boys and a girl grown up now but I remember many a time getting a nerf bullet in the but cheekā€‹:joy::joy::woman_facepalming: part and parcel all good fun itā€™s good to help teach boundaries too to have fun but not to hurt each other

why just boys? do you need a penis to operate a nerf gun?

my son AND my daughters play with nerf since they are not just for boys

Yipā€¦one rule onlyā€¦ not the face

Heck yeah!!! Same rules as others no face no animals and no one un armed. There are places that offer events pre covid

Of course!
The answer would be why not?
If I had a daughter sheā€™d also have nerf guns.

Yeah because I like to play with them

My daughter loved hers. She had the Nerf bow and arrow set too.

Yes, because they are fun! But they know not to shoot anyoneā€™s face.

Yes. My boys have tons of nerf guns and theyā€™re a lot of fun! We also have nerf gun wars where the entire family participates. We have the same rules as many do, which is, donā€™t shoot the face, but they also wear safety masks just incase

No. Guns are not toys. Ever.

Yes, we love a full family Nerf war, always with safety glasses on!

I dont have boys, but i let my girls. My 11y.o went to a nerf gun competition lol mostly boys but fun for herā€¦

Nope, my son was accidentally shot in the eye with one, ended up with weeks of hospital visits and tests as his pupil dilated and filled with blood. Donā€™t like guns as toys and that period where we were unsure if he would lose his sight in that eye was awful!

My son as an entire collection. No pointing it at someone ms face is our ruke

With no bullets, yeah

3 boys and nerf guns galore, we have nerf bullets everywhere. Only rule is no shooting them near windows or tvs!!

Definitely. We also use cans as target practice in the back yard with bb guns.

I feel my sons are to small for them & theyā€™re annoying so I personally donā€™t. But my family has so I let it slide lol

Boy moms?
My 6 year old daughter is a future assassin.
But my 3 year old son tries to shoot them too. He just needs a bit help. We all have occasional shootouts. Lol

Absolutely we have nerf guns!

Yes he knows the difference between toys and real thing and he knows to never point at someoneā€™s face.

Yup! My son has sooo many! Only rule in my house is he canā€™t shoot anyone in the face!

Yes. Just not allowed to shoot someone whoā€™s isnā€™t playing and canā€™t shoot in the face or even point at the face.

Yes because i can and its just as much fun for us as it is them family nerf war

I do. My son loves nerf guns. And my girls. We have also taught our kids gun safety and go through it with them once every 6 months so they know the difference between a real gun and a toy one. We all love nerf guns and we buy them all the time and the bullets for them

Yes we have tons of nerf guns. The whole family will turn all the lights out and hide. We have wars almost every weekend. Kids have been raised around guns and hunting is something we do. They know the difference between real and fake. And they all know to never point a real gun at anyone unless youā€™re defending your life.

We prolly have EVERY nerf gun there is at Walmartā€‹:joy::joy::joy:

Yes! My son is 17 now, but when he was younger we both used to put on the protective gearā€¦ and go out back to play Nerf Dart Tag. So much fun! Those foam darts hurt, though, when they hit the side of your face. Lol.

Yep my son has dozens! He loves them. Only rules are no shooting faces or appliances.

Why canā€™t girls play with nerf guns, if we had them my girls would be assassinating their brother

My question is, why not?

I let mine all the time when he was younger and had a few nerf wars with him

We have tons of them! Itā€™s fun to run around the house with them to and shoot at each other. We do have rules though. No shooting at the face or close range.

Well yeah. We need the kids to round out the family wars we adults have with them. Outside of course. LOL

Yes. I have girls and boys, they all have them and all play with them. No face shots, no getting the pets and they have to play downstairs and pick up the darts.

Yes we have a lot and bullets everywhere :woman_facepalming:

Yes but I have rules, no saying Iā€™m going to kill you, no aiming above the face. Really no pointing it at me. One time my 5 year old shot me when he was angry I told him if he shot me I would break it . I snapped the nerf gun in half. I teach gun safety and etiquette even tho itā€™s just a toy.

My son and daughter both have a full arsenal of nerf guns. They get one for their birthdays and Christmas almost every year. Plus they have real guns. They have been thought gun safety and I make them treat their nerf guns like a real gun. But obviously they still shoot at each other and me and their day with the nerf guns. But they know the difference between them and their real guns. They know with a nerf gun even though itā€™s fake to never point at someoneā€™s face and certain ones they are not allowed to shoot at each other, especially close up because they hurt.

Yeah I donā€™t mind it, as long as they donā€™t go shooting people in the face or close range in the chest :joy:

Yesā€¦they are fun. I suggest wearing clear safety glasses tho

Nope. Not until they are old enough to go out and shoot a real gun so then every time they handle a fake one they think of the consequences. Yes we teach fire arm safety and have a safe but at the end of the day kids are kids and I would never want an accidental kid shooting especially when itā€™s preventable

Yes yes and yes. Im a mom of 3 boys 15,12,7 and my son 15 birthday party was a BB gun party with there cousins they got to go around and stop targets. Thereā€™s nothing wrong with nerf guns or BB guns especially in the country thats just what we do lol. Just teach them rules about no guns out in public only in the area that you allow them to be on in back yard or out on youā€™re land only only on your property. They should be fine.

Yes and no, I donā€™t buy them cause I know Iā€™m the one left cleaning up the foam things. But if family member get them for my boys Iā€™m not taking it away or anything. Iā€™m probably going to have to buy one for my daughter so she wonā€™t feel left out and unarmed lmao.

Growing up my brother and I played outside with the nerf guns, and the water super soakerā€¦Those ones never turned us into badd peopleā€¦lol

I just bought my daughters nerf guns. Theyā€™re 5&7 and theyā€™re going to be so excited when I bust them out as a surprise during spring break lol

I have never let my children play with any type of gun.

My kids got nerf guns for Christmas one year. They lost the bullets the first day. :woman_shrugging:
The dogs chewed up one of the guns and the one remaining is played with by making the popping sounds (no bullets).

I begrudgingly bought my son one, but I go nuts if he points it at any people or animals. He also gets frequent lectures on the danger of guns. Heā€™s five.

Yes. My son has a million. Heā€™s 5. We have conversations often about we donā€™t shoot people or the dogs and cat. He has lots of different targets I bought and every once in awhile I set up bottles for him to shoot at. Just teach them right and wrong with guns. Real guns arenā€™t a toy. We donā€™t have any in our house but my parents do and my son has seen it and knows itā€™s not a toy and he isnā€™t allowed to touch it.

My daughter has nerf guns lol sheā€™s 7 she enjoys them like her mommy! Only rules is no head shots, no aiming at private parts and watch the window or if we are out side no aiming at cars, animals or random people

My son has a shoe holder in the back of the bedroom door filled with nerf guns lol. We have another bin filled with them as well. Rules are, just no shooting when his baby brother is near and no shots to the head or face.

Currently we are building a nerf course(sorta like a paintball course) for our 8 yr old in our back yard. Itā€™s something he wanted plus will help keep them entertained this summer and outside. His birthday was nothing but NERF THEME THIS YEAR. We do have rules tho.
We treat them as if they were real guns. We donā€™t shoot above the shoulders. When loaded, safety on and pointed at the ground. We donā€™t allow them to be shot in the house. As well as the kids who use the bullets are responsible or picking them up. We also donā€™t really let the 3 yr old participant or have bullets(bc he eats them and doesnā€™t understand gun safety yet even tho they r jst nerf guns). They also have to earn new guns and ammo by helping out around the house.

Iā€™m fine with my boys playing with Nerf guns. Our rule is donā€™t aim it at any person or animalā€¦ Problem being my youngest likes to chew the bullets so theyā€™ve now been taken away.

Yes I do and my girls too. Toys like that are an example of them learning the difference between fantasy and reality, at least if its explained to them. Its a good lesson that kids need to learn. My kids have never seen a gun url but they still know the dangers of real guns and that you still shouldnā€™t shoot your lil sis in the face, EVEN with a nerf gun. Lol

My 3 year old and my 10 year old own their own .22 rifle. We take them shooting all the time. If you teach them the proper way to use a gun they will respect them, and use them properly. Both my girls also have bb guns. They know gun safety and play with them in the backyard. I have never had a problem, and my 10 uear old has been shooting since. She was 5.

Yes, he plays with nerf guns. Yes, he plays with toy guns. Yes, we have real guns. He is taught to respect and treat guns as if they are loaded, no matter what. He is taught gun safety. It applies to toy guns as well as real guns so as to not get complacent.

We have a nerf cross bow. If youā€™re in the U.S., your child has the right to bear armsā€¦

Uh, yeah? My husband, my brother in law, myself and their cousin next door (including their cousins kids) all play with nerf guns :woman_shrugging:t2: theyā€™re fun as heck! Itā€™s not like itā€™s teaching boys to actually buy real guns and shoot people

My 6 and 10 year old daughters have a complete arsenal. No head shots and no shots closer than 5 feet. And no shooting the TV. Otherwise. All is fair in love and war lol

My son is 5 years old and plays with them. We just teach him not to aim at the face!!

I have 2 boys with autism and a 5 year old. We have nerf guns but they do not just get to play with them whenever. They know to treat them like a real gun and have all been trained how to handle it. They have targets, people are never targets.

I donā€™t specifically buy them for him, but heā€™s gotte the small knock off before and i let him play with it. Plus his 2 older boys cousins give him one and He understands its a fake gun and real guns harm real people. So he always just pretends to shoot zombies so i dont really mind as much, but thatā€™s just me.

My son has over 30 nerf guns and he is 8. Heā€™s been collecting them since he was 5. Heā€™s a great kid and I see nothing wrong with him having them.

Yes and my girls too. Why wouldnā€™t I? Iā€™ll also allow them to enlist in the military if they choose to.

My daughter has 2 nerf guns and 3 fake guns.

We have family nerf wars . Iā€™m ok with it and wonā€™t entertain issues with it. It is as wholesome as a snowball fight , I wouldnā€™t let it tear you up

Why do only boys get to play with them? Me and my siblings all had them growing up. We would have nerf wars with our parents. Super fun. Darts get everywhere

It is fun , boys and girls love them. It only get annoying when theirs darts all over the placeā€¦ But oh well.:joy::joy:

Boys and GIRLS should be able to play with toy guns.

If my son wants a nerf gun then mommas gonna get him oneā€¦ and dad oneā€¦ and mom oneā€¦ and grandma and grandpa oneā€¦ oh and the nerf vacuum. (It picks up the darts) and we will have a nerf fight. I grew up loving nerf fights I would not deprive my son of that.

The fact that some parents now a days see a toy as something that equates to the real thing is ridiculous. Let kids be kids. And teach them the real thing is NOT a toy and can take people away. It is not to be used unless someone is threatening your life. :woman_shrugging: I was raised with both in the house. I was taught the difference. And I will do the same with my son.

My entire family plays with nerf guns. I think my husband and I get more in to it then the kids do. Itā€™s fun we all have a blast

Haha my 3 year old loves to play with them, with me or (mostly) dad

My son has been playing with them most his life and he is 13yo. But his dad gave him rules. #1 not allowed to point it at anyone. #2 be respectful of others.

Yeah a toy is a toy and they deserve a childhood playing with whatever toys he enjoysā€¦ Likes to be a policeman when heā€™s playing with what he calls ā€œbang bangsā€ fuels their imagination

I dont think its a huge deal i hate them because the bullets get everywhere and lost but just make sure they act right. No shooting people who arenā€™t playing with them.

Yess. I use the nerf as a teaching moment for actual gun safety. Obviously , the size, color, weight, and overall anatomy of an actual firearm is completely different than any nerf, the concept is the same. Finger on the trigger ONLY when your are 100%ready to shoot. Never shoot in the face, no close range, safety goggles, etc. They love their nerf and they actual do great with them. I have gotten them the machine that picks up the bullets for easy clean up and I got them safety goggles. I even got them a nerf target so they could use them that way instead of always trying to shoot each other. Tv, video games, evem some kids shows portray some type of firearm so not getting them purely on the basis of not wanting them to see guns is moot. But you be the judge of how you feel. I didnā€™t want my kids to have them for a while but I couldnā€™t give myself a real good reason other than ā€œI didnā€™t want them to like holding a gunā€ so I got them a small one to see how they acted with them and once I saw they werenā€™t shooting eyes out they got a whole lot for Christmas

My daughter has nerf guns :gun:

Yes we allow it but the girls and him are only allowed to use them outside and they wear the nerf gun vest and glasses

Why does this only pertain to boys? Girls like nerf guns, too, and you bet your ass my daughter will have one if she wants one.

My nephew and his boys have a great time with them. I think each household would just have to set boundaries to keep it fun.

I Love them , so much fun and I like to ā€œ huntā€ the hubby and shoot him LOL. Game on

I have 4 boys 15 10 6 and 2 they love them well the 15 year he just plays with the boys lol but yes there fun but be careful lmfao them things are mad crazy hahah

No for 2 reasons 1 I want my sons too understand guns are not toys and 2 I know I will end up being the target

At first I was against my son having nerf guns. Unfortunately someone bought him one for Christmas when he was 3 years old. So I allowed him to have it. But I made him learn and respect a few rules first.
1, never ever shoot anyone (unless they say its alright such as they are battling with you)
2, never in the face or private areas
3, never aim at anything fragile such as tvs, glass, breakables and
4, stuffed animals are great target practice.
He will be 6 this year and knows guns arenā€™t toys to be played with but nerf guns are fun.

Yea but I hate them lol

My LB got a set for his 2nd birthday, he absolutely loves them! As does my LG, though she also like to bite the heads off the end so have to watch them constantly but itā€™s good fun.

We love nerf guns in our house. But unless we all agree that we are playing a nerf battle, I teach my son proper ā€œgunā€ safety because I want him to understand that yes nerf is a toy, but real guns are not. When heā€™s shooting the nerf darts at me or the animals, I take them away and explain why it wasnā€™t ok

Oh heck yeah and our oldest has a BB gun that he can use if a grown-up is with him. We want fun but we also teach gun safety.

I got my 4 yo boy and 6 and 8 year old girls nerf guns, also got some for us parents! We mostly use it for target practice rather than on each other!

My boys are 5 and 7 and they love their nerf guns. We usually shoot specific objects though. Never each other, and they have so much fun. Finding the bullets though are a whole different story
