For my C section mamas

When they closed your incision did they use staples or sutures? For my first c section I had the staples. And let me tell you. The first shower I had I accidentally touched them and I cried for about 30 min. It brought me back into the surgery room. I'm currently pregnant with my second one due on Feb 25th. I've talked with my OB and she told me she's going to be using disolvable sutures. I'm looking for opinions and experiences that you've had with them.

Thank you.

Sutures for the inside on the outside they used glue with both of my c-sections. I healed pretty fast even though I was in pain it wasn’t excruciating to the point where I would cry if I accidentally touched it

I only had the dissolvable sutures. Made out fine with them. Easy healing process.

For mine I had sutures inside that dissolved and the they glued the outer incision.

I’ve had both. The staples are so much worse.

I had dissolving stitches. Didn’t have any issues either time!

I had staples both times super uncomfortable

They used sutures and glue for my 1st two csections and my 3rd they used staples and I honestly would had preferred the sutures

My first I had staples stitches and glue. Barely a scare! My second was just stitches still no scar :tada:

I had dissolving sutures
They put steri strips on mine! The “knot” didn’t dissolve on mine so I just asked my dr about it and he pulled it out!

I had the same experience. Not good with staples. The skin had healed over the (poorly done) staples and hurt so bad to remove. I have scars from staples alone. My last two were dissolvable sutures and a much better experience. I hope that brings you some peace of mind with your upcoming delivery. :slightly_smiling_face:

I had csection November and they used dissolvable sutures. I am totally fine touching and showering they will tell you when your home after a few days to take the tape off in the shower and it’s painless

Sutures isn’t bad but don’t get in tub to soak Bc your hurting after your released to go home bc they will dissolve and you will have to go to er.

I had disolveable stitches that were amazing

I have had both and hated the staples.

Dissolving stitches are better… even just stitches… had stitches for 2 c-sections and I felt less pain… 3rd time around I had dissolving stitches and and it took me 1 whole month to feel ok…

Sutures inside and glue on the outer incision for both! I healed extremely quick and tried to move frequently so my body didn’t get sore!

I had dissolvable on the inside and staples on the outside. I then got an infection and they took them out to early and I then split open on the edge. It was awful!

I had 22 staples… they hurt so bad… but that first shower was amazing!

I had the dissolvable stitches with my first, staples with my second. It took longer to heal with stitches, and a couple of them didn’t dissolve so i had to go back to my OB/GYN. The staples do hurt, but theyre out a week later and i healed so much faster and felt better sooner with my second.

Dissolvable stutures and glue and now I know I am severely allergic to that glue. Was not fun!!

I had staples my first time and dissolving sutures the 2nd time. I had no issues with the staples, but with the sutures they put something over my incision for 24 hours after and taking it off hurt so bad bc I had an allergic reaction to it and my skin was coming off with it :sob: it healed fast though

I had staples as well,i hated them

I had the dissolvable on the inside and outside. I healed great and was less stress. Wouldn’t do it any other way

I had dissolvable stitches for both of my c sections

My 1st c-section I was glued on the outside and dissolvable sutures on the inside, 2nd c-section I had stitches that had to be removed, and 3rd c-section I had staples. Staples were definitely the most uncomfortable but I did heal the best with them.

My first two I had staples. Took forever to heal. My incision site was numb from about a half inch below and up to my belly button for 8 years after my second. I had two more sections and they used dissolvable stitches ( between #2 & #3 was 8 years ) with my last they revised my incision making only one scar and I have feeling ON my scar and around it. And the healing was much faster and less painful.

Stitches on inside glue on outside

Dissolving sutures are a lot easier to deal with ! I wasn’t sore with them from my c section !

I had dissolvable staples for both.

First 2 we’re Staples and they removed them before I went home…but the last 2 he used glue…which was awesome… however the wait for the glue to dry was a bit awkward

Staples and sutures…

My first c section was closed with staples my second they used clamps I preferred the staples as the clamps caught on my clothing same doctor different hospitals

I’m pretty sure I had both , I bought the nonstick pads or gauze and kept it in the incision to keep it dry …helped a ton

Ask for a belly compression band (if they don’t give you one) it helps so much keeping everything where it should be

Dissolvable stitches. Had my c section last year!

My first was staples. Second and third were the med strips

I had sutures and it was a good healing process. My scar looks great too!

Staples which were uncomfortable
Then one long suture for no 2
Also the one long sutures for babies 3 , 4 and 5 I would much prefer the suture

I just had mine and they used dura bond. So much better with the first 3 that were staples

Dissolvable stitches for both of mine

Neither. I had glue.

I had the dissolvable stitches both mine healed perfectly didn’t have to worry about going back before i needed too which was convenient since both my kids needed nicu stays…

I’ve only had 1 C-Section and they used dissolvable sutures. I had no issues showering with them and healed pretty quickly.

Dissolvable stitches if I remember correctly

I had glue both times

I just had my 4th c section January 12th they used dissolvable staples in the inside and a sutures on the outside I believe it was. My Dr was awesome with having 3 prior c sections I had a thick scar she cut out my scar and made it one small one scar line kind of like a mini tummy tuck. It’s tighter when healing but now I feel okay. I’d suggest the dissolving staples and sutures or glue for the outside.

Dissolvable stiches and steri strips

1st-stitches, 2nd- staples, 3rd-glue. I like the glue the most

Dissolvable sutures! Loved them. They sutured me up and I didn’t have to think about them again

I have had staples and I have had dissolvable sutures (glue) for c-sections.
I prefer the glue.

I had staples and one was not closed on the inside and it jabbed me everytime I moved. It wasn’t until my checkup that they realized that is what was causing my pain.

I had the dissolving stitches…i didnt have to do much to it they told me the remaining bandages or whatever they were would just fall off and id see them in the shower… i seen em and was able to gently clean the area with no pain at all… my incision has healed beautifully and jm sure if i didnt have this oh so awesome fupa u wouldnt be able to tell much lol

I had sutures both times in 2010 and 2013. Where my 1st 1 didn’t work so well I had a blood clot and got recut 4 days later. I know have a little nerve damage. But my 2nd c section was a breeze. Easy to take care of.

Courtney Fowler what did they give you?

Steri strips were used for all 3 of mine.

My doctor had to use both bc my skin wouldn’t stay together :skull_and_crossbones::rofl:

1st-dissolvable stitches 2nd -staples. I hate staples. They got easily infected. Doctors year later said I had a incomplete csection

To be honest i hate dissolving sutures, everything I’ve had them for they’ve ended up coming apart early BUT between that and staples, the sutures are at least not as uncomfortable for the time they’re in

I had dissolvable sutures and a big gel plaster over the top that I could keep on while in the shower I had the plaster on for a few days after I got home and then the midwife took it off and only problem I had was one tiny bit of the suture was sticking out and I could feel it but other than that it was absolutely fine x

Had both didn’t have any problems c-sections nineteen months apart

I had disolvable sutures on the inside and staples on the outside for both of my c-sections.

My second one i had nothing but strips

Sutures are best! My first one was Emergency c section and resulted in staples but my second one was great! Dissolvable sutures so I didn’t have scaring or holes from the staples

I had the dissolvable ones and it hurts to shower & lay down. They’re not any better :weary:

I personally asked for stitches…no staples…much better experience.

I had dissolvable on the inside and glue on the outside. healed amazing and scar is almost invisible now

I only got steri strips :astonished:

I’ve had glue, sutures and staples. Staples were the worst getting them out

C section mama here! 1986…staples and by 3rd day post partum they were falling out on their own! Was restricted from driving my stick shift car for a month.

I had staples with mine, they were removed before I left the hospital, steri strips were applied and I kept them on till they fell off, and I barely even have a scar.

I had 3 c-sec. the first one was staples and the other two were dissolvable sutures with steri strips. I didn’t have a problem with either. The staples burned coming out. It was uncomfortable, but after having my guts cut open I didn’t think it was bad.

100000x better! I had staples inside but dissolving stitches outside & found it much much better!!

I’ve had two c-sections after two natural births and will be having a third c-section in 5 weeks. I’ve always had dissolvable Sutures and steri-strips.

I had 2 c sections and a hysterectomy. All 3 I got dissolvable inside and the glue on the outside. It was the best! Less risk of infection. And glue just kinda dissolves and falls off. Ask for it!

they glued mine both times

Oh lady my first one was 1975…my incision was cut up and down verses across…staples…I was cut 5 times on same incision…

I had the dissolvable on the inside and they used the strips on my outside. Pain was there but tolerable! You can barely see my scar now!

Everyone is handles experiences differently. I had Dissolving stitches inside and glue on the outside. You can barely even see my scar and recover was very quick for me. Ask for what you want and feel more comfortable getting.

First time I had staples, ended up with an infection, second time had a great dr! He did dissolving stitches, said he never had anyone have an infection cause he does them right which leaves no gaps for infection… I felt great, and healed wonderfully!

sutures. They dissolved on their own

When I had my back surgery for 5 fusions I had 123 stables …what awful pain

I had both. Staples 1st dissolve for 2 n 3. The stitches are SOOOO MUCH BETTER

I had an emergency c section and got dissolveable. They were great. I was in 5days and they were nearly healed by the time I went home

The waterbed we had at the time was not my friend, though!

I had sutures and my incision healed very quickly with no issues :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:very light scar

So, I had the staples with my first one, my son. 3 years later, I had my daughter by C-Section and I was still numb from my first one a bit so, I didn’t hurt nearly as bad and had the dissolveable. I was able to actually stand up with my second.

I had both but they removed the staples before sending me home. I never had pain to touch, just using those muscles felt like it would tear open

I’ve had 7 c-sections and I’ve had both. Including just glue. They all worked very good for me. One time I had staples and one area got a little infected so couldn’t get that one out yet.

Stitches that dissolved on their own. Both times

I’ve had three and was glued every time.

Im due on feb 24th, my 3rd c section. Ive had both and definitely better with the dissolvable sutures.

Mine used dissolvable sutures and a a wound vac to promote healing from the inside out

I got tape on my outter layer :joy:

I had both, different hospitals and doctors - just depends on what they prefer to us. If you have concerns bring it up during a visit.

Mine were the sutures, and I experienced no pain and it healed quickly. I wouldn’t recommend looking at them, that was a little traumatic and ill still remember it looking kinda gory, but nothing compared to your past experience.

Staples but it was many years ago
