Has anyone gave birth vaginally after having a c-section?

So I am 11 weeks pregnant with baby #3. My first pregnancy was induced at 39 weeks. I had a vaginal delivery. In my second pregnancy, I was induced at 39 weeks, pushed for 3 hours had had an emergency c-section. This pregnancy, I’m nervous. My doctor has said that I should be able to deliver vaginally again as long as I don’t gain over 20 pounds… but there is the risk of my uterus rupturing where my c section Scare is. My question is have yall had a successful vaginal delivery after a c section. Were there complications?? Would it be safer just to plan a c section?? My husband thinks I should just plan a c section, but he doesn’t understand how rough the recovery is. I’m just wondering all opinion and experiences. Thank you in advance.

I had a c section in April 2015 and January 2019 I had a vbac.

Women have vbac all the time.

I have 4 children. 1st vaginal 2nd c-section, 3 & 4 vaginal. Vaginal after a c-section was no different from my first vaginal.

A VBAC is very possible and very safe.
Any doctor that says, “you can have one so long as _____” is not supportive. They will likely con you into doing a CS for money.

I’m planning on having a VBA2C whenever I have another child. There’s a very minimal risk of a uterine rupture. It’s not a contributing factor, just a scare tactic.

yes i have had 5 successful VBAC

I had vaginal then c section then vaginal. Last vaginal baby was almost 9lbs and I didnt have any problems. (1st was 7lb 8oz, then 6lb 2oz)

I had a c section in 2017 then a VBAC in 2018. All went well no problems, and I was high risk due to my uterus abnormality, so I’m sure you would be fine x

I haven’t had this experience personally, but my mom had me by c-section 31 years ago and then my brother vaginally 5 years later without complication. And like I said that was 26 years ago, so there’s no reason you can’t.

I had a VBAC 17months between them. I did have a haemorrhage and lost some blood so I was anemic after but the second labor was a lot smoother and less complicated thankfully. I was much more mobile the second time too and in less pain. Vaginal delivery Is defo easier. Although I do advice to have plenty of witch hazel and pain meds for the first week coz you will be sore

I had emergency c section in 2011 then VBAC in 2019

My mom had an emergency c section with my and to VBACs after me and the first VBAC was just a little over a year after I was born

I tried a vbac and was one of the .01% that started to have signs of a uterine rupture. The chances are SO low if you have only had 1 c section but increase with each c section after that. Talk with your doc and they can help talk to you! I have TONS of scar tissue in my uterus so I could only ever have c sections after but everyone is different!

What happened with your second child that you needed a csection?

The chances of your csection scare rupturing after just one csection is pretty slim if you didn’t have any issues with the healing. I had 3 csections, first one emergency, knocked out, the other 2 scheduled. Each recovery was completely different though.

I had a vaginal delivery after a c section 5yrs prior…no problems…only in active labor 3 hrs.

My first was a c-section, I had 3 vaginal deliveries after that with no complications.

I had a vbac 9months ago!

Second c section is always so much easier then the first

I had a c-section and then gave birth vaginally to twins with no problems at all, and not a single stitch needed! Recovery was great and I was back doing the school run when they were 4 days old! Go for the vaginal birth the chance of a rupture are so so so slim x

my husband broke up with me last week i was so sad I changed completely, I wasn’t eating and i wasn’t talking to anybody, I cried a lot,I was so depressed and stressed out that I was scared I’m going to end up in the hospital because of all the stress and depression until one day i search online on getting love tips because I Love & care about him deeply and I just want us to be together as a couple again and I want us to last forever then i found a powerful spell caster Called Dr Ehimen that he solved so many relationship problem then DR Ehimen told me he will come back to me between 48hrs after he cast spell on him never believe it until my lover called me on the phone and told me he want us to come back live happily together forever , Am so happy now that Dr Ehimen help me bring my lover back to me. I did, my first was a little over 7 pounds and she wouldn’t budge. I was scheduled for the 2nd c- section but the insurance wouldn’t cover it unless I did a trial of labor. It was nearly a disaster as my 10 pound son got stuck. My OB finally got him out with no adverse effects to him. I on the other hand had more stitches than any person should. I was perfectly happy with having a second caesarean, my vback recovery was 100 times worse than a caesarean was.

Plan a c section natural was horrible after c section

YES. I had my son via c-section and had my daughter vaginally. They are 6.5 years apart, but it is possible. Keep an open mind and never underestimate what your body was made to do.

I had an emergency c section on November 23, 1994 & a vbac on October 03,1995… Didn’t have any problems after either one

I had a csection for my first birth and i have had a natural 3 times since then.

The second c-section isn’t as bad as the first. My first was absolutely awful I couldn’t walk for almost a week and the second I left the hospital after 48hrs.

Im in the same situation as well, first pregnancy was a epidural vaginal delivery, the 2nd one was a emergency csection due to baby being breech & im 39 weeks into my 3rd pregnancy & doctor says everything is going okay, baby is head down & i should be able to have a vbac but im scared if i have to have another csection cause the recovery was so painful😞

I personally don’t understand the long recovery everyone talks about csects. I was up walking about 6 hours after. About 12 hours I was walking the halls. A few hours after that I walked my other children to the park near the hospital. My ex was totally against me having any pain meds. I took them at the hospital when he wasn’t around. But when he was he’d glare at me. I wasn’t allowed to fill my Rx either. I chased a toddler around with help from my oldest. Carried both kids. It was rough, don’t get me wrong, I wish I could’ve had those pills. But it was manageable. If without the drugs if I were to have another I’d be happy to have csect again. So much better than 3 days stuck in a bed in excruciating pain. Then it burning every time I would pee & all the other pain.

It depends on your body. My second c-section was so much easier. They typically use the same scar. You can try for vbac I don’t see the harm if your obgyn is on board. Just know the 2nd is almost always easier

I just had a vbac 2 weeks ago. My first baby born via csection is now 18 months old, so they’re quite close in age too. It’s definitely possible :slightly_smiling_face: and I’m glad I pushed for a vaginal (most people will try and convince you to do a repeat csection)

Pm if you have questions!

I had induction for my first, emergency c section for my second, and labored and delivered my third, my doctor did watch me a little closer during delivery but it all went well. Just remember everyones body is different

I would definitely try to vbac since you’ve had a vaginal delivery before as long as they’re not expecting a really big baby or something like that.

I’ve had 3 c sections. The first one was an emergency c section the second two were planned. Its so much easier, you get a date and you go in to have your baby.

My second was delivered naturally after my first being emergency c-section. No complications and faster recovery

usually if there was complications during ur delivery they recommended you repeat csection again to avoid the risk of complications again.

Hi how many years do you have between now and the second baby, if it’s 5 years you’re good

I gave birth to 3 after my c-section. I definitely recovered much faster from the vaginal births than the c-section. No complications at all

Yes, I did! my second daughter was c-section! My third was schedule c-section but she decided to come a day early. I got to the hospital at 5:15am, she was born all natural at 6:03am, 45 mins later. She was my easiest delivery out of my 4 daughters. She is 27 years old now. Good luck!

My VBAC was a tougher recovery than my c-section after 18 hours of labor. My son born by VBAC was very large, 10 lbs, and he did a lot of nerve damage. I was told that I shouldn’t have been a VBAC as those are unsafe if baby is estimated to be over 7 lbs! Recovery was about a month to 6 weeks longer than c-section.

As a Labor nurse I’ve seen things go every which way! (40 years) No guarantees with either. Uterine ruptures are very real but rare. You can rupture without having had a previous C/ section, and the uterus doesn’t always rupture where the previous scar was. It’s just not black and white…
Given you have a proven pelvis from your first delivery your chances are better for a successful vbac however. You’ll need constant fetal and Uterine monitoring and abide by the doctor’s advice re: weight gain etc. You didn’t mention if your 2nd baby was large or if you were heavier at the time of delivery. The mom’s weight is a safety factor in both delivery methods. Ultimately it’s your decision with your MD. You can always try to VBAC and at any time during the process you can change your mind!
I will say, a scheduled CS is easier to recover from as you didn’t labor first and spend hours pushing. The same fatigue won’t be there and your body didn’t experience that stress.

My first baby vaginal delivery after a long labor.Second like your delivery ,pushed 4 hrs then a c/section,I had complications and a classical incision so wasn’t a candidate for a VBAC(pretty much once a section always a section back then) and had my 3Rd by repeat c-section and it was easy this time around.I think it’s safer for the mom to have a repeat ,but depends on the reason for the previous c-section.I would talk it over with your Dr,go with what you feel most comfortable with.Make sure if you plan to deliver vaginally that the hospital has in-house Drs to be able to do an emergency c-section 24/7. I am a retired RN who mainly worked OB.

My first child was C-sec. My next 2 (1986 & 1993) were both Vbacs. No problems - and natural births are much easier to recover from!

I had a vbac with my daughter after 2 c-sections with my boys. I had to go to a bigger hospital in case there was any issues. No problems at all and my baby girl is now 30!!!

The safety of Vaginal birth after a c-sec drpends on how your uteral incisionwas done. I the uterus was cut horizontally low on the uterus and you are a well nourished healthy woman then vbac is safe. If the uterus was cut vertically or high on the uterus you are at much higher risk for uterine rupture.

I delivered twice VBAC, after my first was a C-section. And my 2nd child was 11 lbs!! Ugh. No major complications. I trusted my doctor and believed if he became concerned at any point, he would have made me deliver by C-section. Communication with your doctor about your preferences and concerns is key.

My 4th was c-section, my 5th they monitored my uterus from the inside and I successfully delivered my baby. This was in 1987, and procedures are much safer now. Yes, v-backs are encouraged today.

I had a vbac 24 years ago! My advice and what ur dr should explain to u is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I educated myself and had a plan as to how to go about having a vbac and an understanding of the things that could go wrong at which time having a c section would become necessary for the baby and myself. By having the plan i felt more in control and confident going into the delivery.

In my opinion it is not worth any additional risk to the child for the benefit of a few weeks faster recovery. My friend was one of the unlucky ones with her VBAC choice - her uterus split and her child was born with severe brain damage.

There are thousands of women who have safely gone through VBAC. Physical fitness is ALWAYS a strong key toward a successful vaginal birth. And unfortunately, the medical “knowledge” that is still espoused in 2020, is outdated and not backed entirely by actual science. For example, women of color, especially black women were “known” to be “unable to have a successful VBAC” because “their bodies are more suited to manual labor, not the gentle pursuits of motherhood”. Yeah, it’s based on that kind of “science”. And the c-section that is commonly done today is not the massive gaping incision that was used only 20 years ago. So odds of severe scar tissue a less these days than they were a couple decades ago.

All mine were c sections because my dr told me that once you have a c section every pregnancy afterward has to be one as well. I had c sections scheduled with second and third ones they came a week early and dr said I was not allowed to into labor meaning once my water broke I had to go straight to or my second child they screwed up and allowed me to be in labor for hours even after water broke cause they didnt want to follow drs orders. Reason that I was not allowed to go in labor was because dr said it could be fatal for me or my baby.

I had a vbac after emergency c-section and I had gained tons of weight during the pregnancy. I was induced and it was hard labor (no drugs due to allergies) but was a much easier recovery even with getting 22 stiches!

My planned c sections recovery was soooo smooth Vs my emergency c section.
I was so scared. I’m 4 weeks PP and feel great. At 1 week I was doing laundry, cooking, and cleaning this time around.
All around a better experience

My first was an emergency c-section. I had my daughter 14 months later vbac. They had to use the suction cup to help get her out. It is dangerous and can be a life threatening situation. She was 2 lbs 2 oz. smaller than my son. You can do it but you are a taking risk. I hope the best for both of you!

I did not try for a V-bac but I will say, the recovery from my second c-sections was a piece of cake compared to my first. Didn’t even feel like I had surgery

For me I was given the option but during my first csection one of my daughter’s feet got stuck and tore me a little off to the side. Because of the same risks but a little higher risk I opted for a planned csection.

I had three vaginal deliveries then my fourth was a c-section followed by number five being vaginal. Had no problems

Yes. My first was c-section and my second and third were vaginal. It is possible only with a certain kind of c-section.

My mom had a c-section with me and vaginal births for both my sister and brother after me. I was also her smallest baby but she was very young when she had me.

I know that if I could choose I would pick Vbac because recovery is so much easier.

Yes. I had my first child a daughter at 30 weeks gestation and she was emergency c section because I had really bad preeclampsia. I wanted to do vaginal delivery when I got pregnant with my second child and was actually induced with my second child. He was born 37 weeks because of preeclampsia but he was a vagina birth. I went on to have a third child and he was born full term and vaginal so it definitely can work for vbac

Everyone is different and you never know what issues or concerns might arise. I think you just need to keep open communication with your doctor and be prepared that you may need another Csection.

Yes. Each delivery was different. My first turned into an emergency c-section. The two following were vaginal, but different in several ways.

My granddaughter had c-section for her first and vaginal delivery for her second. No problem. Good luck.

Yes! I did it. Baby is now 29 yrs old. With advance in medicine, I pray that you’ll be ok and the baby. Be safe!

my mother had an emergency csection for my brother and then had me naturally with no complications.

there’s no right or wrong answer, but I will tell you a planned csection goes a lot smoother and is alot less stressful then an emergency one…im having my 3rd any week now

I opted for a repeat c section with my 2nd and 3rd. My planned sections were much easier recovery than my emergency c sections. Only you can make that decision but wanted to share I was pleasantly surprised with my 2nd and 3rd recovery. Good luck hope you have an easy pregnancy, safe delivery and quick recovery!

me personally I had emergency c section with first and schedule c section on second the second one was easier than the first.

I had a VBAC 25 years ago. No problems. I did gain over 20 pounds and had a big baby. You should be fine.

i just had a vaginal delivery… my first son was a scheduled csection. my son is 3 years old.

Going back 30 odd years first was c section then 5 years later had normal birth no complication and heavier in weight

I had FOUR c-sections did fine but agree recovery is MUCH longer!!

I wanted to deliver mine naturally after my first emergancy one they wouldn’t let me now I’m having my 4 th csection

I had my first vaginal, second were twins via C-section at 35 weeks. My last vbac at 36 weeks. Time between first delivery and last 28 months.

Just had my third C-section, each one was 5yrs and 10months apart. The 2nd & 3rd were so much easier than the first one. I also worked up until 1 month before the 2nd and 3 weeks before the 3rd C-section

have the c section, my daughter insisted on a vbac and i almost lost her,

I had a c-section with my first and delivered twins vaginally a year later and gained 25 lbs. zero complications.

I haven’t, but I know many women who have done vback with no issues. An emergency could arise even without prior c-section and vaginal is an easier recovery… so I always recommend that.

I’ve had 6 babies my youngest is 7 weeks 5 csection an one vag my csection seemed easier with my daughter this 5th csection I was up walking same day she was born at 10 40 am I was walking the hall by 5 pm ps I’m on my fiance page

I had 3 vaginal deliveries after my first born, who was a C section. The reasons though as to why you had a c section to begin with. Mine was only because my child was in distress. Now if there is a problem (say tilted pelvis or something) that could factor into having multiple c sections as well.

My second was a c section and my third three years on a vaginal birth…all good for me. I do understand your concern though

1st one was a c section. 2 and 3 were vbacs. No problems. Also between 1 and 2 was 14 1/2 years Glad I tried for vag delivery

My first was c section in 1985 then 3 natural births after in 88 92 and 98…no complications at all with birth

I had three c sections and it was easier with each one I was up and about 3 days after I had my last even discharged from the hospital

I had my first 2 children by c-section, a miscarriage then a ectopic pregnsncy that ended with my left ovary and tube removed. After that i got pregnant again and had him vaginally without any problems.

My daughter had a c-section with her first and vaginal with her second two. No complications whatsoever. Doctor just said she wouldn’t induce because of the scar

My first daughter was csection 14 months later my second daughter was natural

Why ask, go with your Dr Advice and your husband for that matter, it is a little life you are carrying and it is worth doing the best thing possible so that everything will go smoothly why risk it .I almost forgot., Congratulation on the 3rd child.

Have the csection. A family members baby died when she tried to have a vbac.

My daughter has 4 boys, the first one was c-section the next 2 were both vbac also both 9 libs and 2 years in between. The last one was c section due to him coming breach. She had no problems with the vbacs.

Well over 30 years ago I had 3 vbacs after twins. Now 30 plus years later I LEAK

My daughter had 5 vaginal deliveries after a c-section with no complications.

Honestly you should just have trust in your doctor. At this point I think whatever is safest for your baby. Wishing you Love & Luck. God Bless you Both.

Yes you can give birth without another C section, my daughter did, no worry mom.

I had my 1st with an emergency c-section and then 3 vaginal births after that. There is a higher risk of uterus rupture, but not that high, and the risk of major surgery makes the risk of serious problems less than the c-section anyways.

I would plan c section rupture of uterus sounds painful after wards plus having 2 kids and newborn no thanks

I had my two girls after an emergency C section with my son. But I did have to be induced with each girl.

As long as what procedure you decide Is safe for both you and the baby, safety of you both should be the most important thing

Did a v-bac after 2 c-sections and was induced with my v-bac. I was fine afterwards.
