How do you pronounce Mailily?

My boyfriend and I are getting ready to have a baby girl and agree on a name, but not the spelling. We are going back and forth on how the name is pronounced. I need unbiased opinions. How would you pronounce the “main” part in Mailily?

Okay to be honest I first sounded out
Mail-lily in my head.

I read it initially as mail- lilly and then again as May-lilly

‘My lily’ is how I see it at first.

May lily or could be my lily

When I think of Mai I think of May- so “may-lily”

May-Lilly … but funny enough I suggest adding it as a contact and asking Siri to call it lol :joy: it helps on figuring it out

It really doesn’t matter how you say or spell it.

While it’s a nice name, your child is going to always deal with people saying her name wrong or misspelling it.

Maybe try choosing a different first name and this as a middle name.

My as mai is pronounced m-ah-e which is my.
My-lilly

Choose a simpler way to spell. Plain is way cuter than a parent trying to spell it “unique” because in the end it looks dumb :joy: example, my daughters name is Chloe & is spelled the same. I’ve seen other girls on Fb named Chloe but theirs are spelled, Khloie, Kloee, Cloiee, etc, it just don’t look right

I would see it as My lily but her name would get butchered for life. Much easier as a middle name and Less torment as a first name. Or just one of the names, Mai or lily.

My daughters name is Lilly-Mai which we pronounce as may

Keep in mind that for her entire life she will have to correct people (or at least half of them) on the pronunciation and spelling of her name. You and she will be exhausted by her 3rd birthday

mail-lilly… my sons name is kayden but spelt “kaiden” honestly idk how to pronounce that name tho with all do respect.

I read it as Mail ily. Regardless, it’s not as bad as some of the names people come up with, so don’t listen to the comments about choosing something different. If anything just change the spelling. Maelily?

Assuming you want it to be May-Lilly but I see My because Kai is Kye.

May Lily

Don’t get crazy with the spelling. The kid has to live with it and forever correct people, including during role call in school which is embarrassing.

My daughter name is Kinai we sound it can i

May lily, spell it however you want to! Our daughter is Lailaunie most people spell it lelanie but to me if you take your time how we spelled it makes more sense… :woman_shrugging: how I look at it you can correct people, and when she’s old enough she will… Everyone you guys know and are close to will call her by her name and others will pick up on it regardless of spelling.

Mai (like a mai-ti drink) Lilly

If you are worried enough to ask then I’d simplify the spelling.

Don’t makes things more difficult for the poor kid bad enough she’ll never find a cup or keychain with her name on it now you want her to spell it for everyone she ever meets

May-lily but Mai by itself is * my like a Mai thai

My dumb ass read it as “Mail-ily” lmao

My - (mai) lilly is how I would pronounce it just like my my sons name Jai is pronounced.

I’m just going to say it… That’s gotta be top 10 in dumbest names I’ve ever heard. Do your kid a favor and pick a family name or something that means something to you instead of trying to be unique. If that is a family name, pick another family member.

My - lily is how I read it.

If you have to ask, it’s always going to be pronounced incorrectly and could be an easy target for a bully.

Mae and lily are both pretty names. Way you put on post it does sounds like a mail order company name. Me personally spell how they should be instead of silly ways to be a bit different. People will pronounce it wrong or spell wrong in future years. Hyphen the two names so will be said together
Mae- lily
Lilly-may

Please choose a name that’s at least pronounced the way it looks. You’re questioning how to pronounce it now think about your daughter having to correct everyone she meets all of her life.

It looks like, Mail-ily

Maylily….if that’s what your going for

I dunno. But all I can think is it looks like MAIL LADY!

“Male-ale- ee” is how I want to pronounce it.

Sounds like when Harry Potter mispronounced “Diagon Alley” before using flu powder at the Weasley’s in the Chamber of Secrets

Kids with odd spelled names that are mispronounced all the time absolutely hate their name. What sounds really cool to the parent and different is their nightmare. Please think of the kid

May lily
If its May-lily it actually sounds kind of cute.

My-lilly like mai FM lol sorry that’s how I see the name and would pronounce it

To me it would be prounounced as the A in Mai being silent, so more like Mylily

May Lilly

I just want to say. Get ready for total mispronunciation. Possibly misspelling as well.
Setting your kid up for this the rest of their life.

Give baby a name that people can Pronace :hear_no_evil:

May lily. But. This will be questioned , mispronounced and mis spelt for her whole life. You and she will be forever correcting people. Separate it to Mae-Lillie, May-lily?

I suggest choosing a spelling that is easy for people to pronounce. Otherwise nobody will never call her by the correct name and she will hate it.

Please spell it the correct way trust me I changed the spelling for both my daughters names and now they are teenagers and hate it… my oldest daughter spells her name the correct way on everything now because she hates the way her father and I spelt her name.
