How to get baby to sleep through the night?

My daughter didnā€™t start sleeping all night until she was about 13 months

More activity throughout the day and shorter naps might help.

I recommend the book babywise but itā€™s a Christian book and it works for so many people I know. But I also was lucky cause mine came out a sleep and nap champ.

Right first take the oats out his bottle. Heā€™s been on the planet for 4 months. Not many babies/children sleep through the night especially at his age. Heā€™s supposed to wake regularly for bottles. Just heā€™s a baby. Let him be just that

Pampers night time diapers, baby swaddled with a pacifier. Add rice to milk before bed. Make sure the baby is in a dark cool room. Sorry didnā€™t mean to sound like a list. Me and my other mom friends swear on those diapers contributing to sleeping at night.:blue_heart:

Itā€™s biologically normal for a baby so young to wake, please stop trying to force babies to sleep through the night just because your tired

Babies that age donā€™t always sleep through the night. Also putting oatmeal in bottles is dangerous

My son didnā€™t sleep through a night until he was three and a half years old. Some kiddos wake up a lot. Some donā€™t. Try a white noise machine and a good swaddling blanket. Other than that it sounds fairly normal.

Your baby might not sleep through the night yet, thatā€™s not abnormal but it really sucks, but some babies donā€™t sleep through the night until a year old. Try a bit bigger of a bottle just before bed and cross your fingers. Good luck.

Babyā€™s wake up throughout the night. It happens. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a through-the-night sleeper that early.

Itā€™s normal for a baby to wake at night. Thatā€™s what they are suppose to do. Also nothing but formula or BF for the first 6 months and all signs of readiness. Definitely stopped adding anything to a bottle itā€™s a choking hazard plus the babyā€™s gut isnā€™t developed enough for it. My kid just started aleeping through the night that is most nightā€™s and heā€™s almost 5 Years old. Hell even I wake to pee. So why would you expect a 4 month old to sleep all night when most are starving.

I was told to use rice cereal because the baby may be allergic to oatmeal. I maybe wrong because things have changed since my children were young. Babies seem
to sleep good during the day and wake up a lot a night. He/she will adjust when ready. Until then you sleep when the baby sleeps if it means you nap during the day than thatā€™s what you will have to do. There are toys you can put on their carrier or swing that make music and are colorful that may keep baby awake. Until then you will have interrupted sleep. Also as stated in other comments try and keep the baby awake more during the day and especially near bed time. Also a warm bath before bed time may help. Good luck. Just remember all of us with children have been through this.

Just gotta deal with it mama . Eventually he will just be patient they are only this little once ā€¦ And every baby is differentā€¦ My 3 year old wakes up more then my 8 month old ! So just let them adjust to this new big world and do what you have to cuddle soothing music ,walking/ rocking really helped us ā€¦ And most importantly ignore the hateful gals on here ! Youā€™re gonna be ok just sleepy lol  Drink some coffee love

DO NOT PUT OATMEAL IN YOUR BABIES BOTTLE!!! Jesus christ!!! Nothing BUT FORMULA OR BREASTMILK IN BOTTLES LADIES! Think about it. Babies that young dont sleep thru the night, another bottle half way thru the night is fine but dont do stupid stuff like over feed your child ayeā€¦MORE HARM THEN GOOD! Brainless

This is 100% normal, they digest quickly & waking frequently lowers their risk of SIDS. Adding rice/oatmeal to his bottle will upset his belly & is a choking risk. There isnā€™t a fix, all you can do is wait.

Donā€™t add anything to the bottle, most babies at that age and even up to a year donā€™t sleep through the night and this is normal but adding things to the bottle can cause more problems for their little system that isnā€™t ready for all that.

Thatā€™s a typical baby. Some find their routine early and some are up thru the night.
How you feed your baby is your choice. I just want to say cereal in the bottle donā€™t fill up baby- it will act as a filler causing more hungerā€¦ It takes away from the nutrients from the formula- the stuff babies bodies can break dwn easily. Just bc it says it on the bottle does not mean baby is absorbing those nutrients. If your giving cereal just give a small bowl of cereal mixed with baby juice-a very small amount of the cereal and juice- I did this. My babies ped told me too. It helps with constipation issues. Do it once a day as babies last meal.
I fed food to my babies early after they wanted full bottles around a month. +cereal in the bottle is a choking riskā€¦ I am very aware many moms swear by doing this but their are too many factors contributing to the issues tour talking about with it and the choking does and has happened many times.

Some babies just need that extra milk. Right now their bodies are rapidly growing, they need the extra nutrition, dont try to stop it.

Start a consistent bedtime routine is you havenā€™t and stick to it. If baby wakes up at night, do not interact. Do the business you need to do without talking or much eye contact, keep the lights dim. Once heā€™s done eating, then itā€™s right back down to sleep again. Also, see if he will start settling himself if he wakes up. He should be able to go longer stretches without needing to eat now. Fussing is different than crying and itā€™s ok to let babe fuss and try to settle themselves back down.

Routine is key and consistency. But itā€™s a babyā€™s survival instinct that makes them wake up during the night. Cereals in a bottle can be a choking hazard. Pleas consult a pediatrician and feed cereals with a spoon.

You donā€™t, theyā€™re 4 months old. Theyā€™re still trying to get used to being outside of you. But if you want to try something to help them sleep better, maybe try a sound machine?

My son didnā€™t start sleeping through till he was about 17 months. Itā€™s part of being a parent itā€™s tiring but you just have to accept it you canā€™t force them. Definitely donā€™t but stuff in his bottle like not at 4 month I certainly wouldnā€™t feed at that age unless directed by the dr or a professional you could hurt your baby.

All babies are different. Youā€™re the closest person to your baby. As long as baby is having lots of wet nappies and poops every day, because of being on the bottle, is healthy then you do you and baby.

My son is 15 months and still wakes up atleast twice thru the night

I must have gotten lucky because my first two slept through the night around 4 months.

Mine slept 12 hours a night straight through from 2 weeks old so Iā€™m not much help if baby has never slept through the night, but around 3 months when he started waking to eat in the night the pediatrician suggested I add 2 formula scoops of oatmeal infant cereal in his bedtime bottle to help keep him full through the night. He went back to sleeping 12 hours a night when I added that into his last bottle. He slept 10pm-10am straight through from 2 weeks old. Shake very well and use a fast flow nipple. Itā€™s not enough to be a choking hazard as it doesnā€™t thicken it that much and there is no need to modify the nipples at all.

4 months is still pretty young especially to be adding anything to his bottle. Their little tummies are either just being able to handle purĆ©e or depending on the baby arenā€™t ready for it. heā€™s going to wake up for a feeding , then sleeping through the night is not a definite. My 14month Old sometimes does but most of the time heā€™s up 1-3 times :woman_shrugging:t3: at 4 months they also go through a growth spurt which causes them to eat more. Youā€™ll just have to get used to not sleeping as much as before you became a mom.

My daughter is 9 months rarley does she sleep right through even tho she eats so much solids through the day my son was 2 when he started sleeping through x

If you donā€™t already, getting a schedule is a huge help! I like the ā€œMoms on Callā€ book/methods and we try to implement it as much as possible for our 2.5 month old. She still often wakes 2-3x a night to eat but she is a little younger than yours, but even the past few weeks of us following that routine has helped a lot with getting her waking up after a longer chunk of time (sleeps 830p-230a, 3a-6a on a good night). Also, we really like the Nested Bean sleeper, it seems to help her self soothe better if she is just restless. Hang in there momma, I know itā€™s hard but it will hopefully pass soon!

Heā€™s too young to be sleeping through the night. Also giving him oats at 4month old is not right. I donā€™t know which peadatrician approved of it but for my son the doctor didnā€™t allow any solids until he was close to 6 months before that he was bf exclusively. Only after 5th month does the doctor allow you to start mild foods like rice cereals once a day. So please check with your pead if giving him oats is right so young.

4 months is a bit young to sleep through the night. But Start a routine. And stick to it. My son was only waking 1-2 times a night by that age and by 6 months was sleeping through the night. Please donā€™t put oatmeal in his bottle. To much for his little tummy. 6 months is when you start introducing foods.

My Daughter is 13 months, she still wakes up 2-3 times a night for feedings, more if sheā€™s teething or going through a growth spurt.

Babies dont really sleep thru the night until their abit older than 4 monthsā€¦ feeding him more than just breastmilk/formula can stretch his tummy and eat more than usualā€¦ plus feeding them before theyā€™re 6 months can mess the babies tummyā€¦ the first 6 months should only be breastmilk or formulaā€¦

You shouldnā€™t be doing oatmeal hon. You can thicken the milk with rice cereal but be sure to add first foods apple sauce or youll be dealing with painful constipation. Also bathing before bed and a nice rub with back lavender lotion.

When my little ones wake up in the middle of the night I shoved a pucky in their mouth worked wonders

Some people prefer to feed whenever the baby is hungry- I took two months off of work so that I could develop a good schedule with my little one. Heā€™s 2 months and usually eats 3-4 hours during the day and can go anywhere from 9pm-12am to 5am-7am in the morning without feeding or waking up except a brief moment

Most 4 month olds donā€™t sleep through the night as for the oatmeal i put a little in there bottle at 4 months

What the fuck. Seriously just what the fuck.

We have an almost 3 month old and we do his last feeding at 1130 at night and then he doesnā€™t eat again until 630/7am. When he wakes up Iā€™ll go in quietly and change him, give him his pacifier and he usually falls back to sleep. We are also trying to get his routine more set as I go back to work in a couple of weeks. He eats 5-6oz at every feeding (he loves his food :joy:) and that seems to help.

Not a 4 month old. Lol. Welcome to motherhood.

Donā€™t use oatmeal in the bottle. Youā€™ll mess that poor babies stomach up before he has a chance. All he needs right now is breastmilk or formula. Heā€™ll sleep through the night when he is ready. You canā€™t force it on him.

You donā€™t. 4 months is way to young to sleep through the night. Baby is waking because she/he needs you - Needs a change, needs to be fed, Needs your body to regulate their own temperature.

Ask again when the baby is a year old.

There is a four month sleep regression. A baby this young is not going to typically sleep through the night. Cereal this young will likely cause a belly ache which means even less sleep. Just remember this is a short time in your childā€™s life.

All you people saying babies dont sleep thru the night at 4months old is crapā€¦ my son is 5 months old today and has been sleeping through the night since he was about 2 and a half months every baby is different Pfeiffer son whoā€™s about to be 7 years old start sleeping through the night at 3 months old but then got RSV at 6 months old and that stopped and still wakes up till this day if your baby is not sleeping through the night heā€™s just not ready to every baby is different and will start sleeping through the night when heā€™s ready until then gladly wake up and take care of your baby and when he does sleep through the night itā€™ll be the best night ever good luck mama donā€™t listen to all these people cuz clearly their baby didnā€™t but that doesnā€™t mean that thereā€™s anything wrong every babies different and heā€™s not too young for oatmeal if heā€™s ready for it my son started eating oatmeal and baby food at three and a half months old and heā€™s happy healthy and the doctor approves

My son is 17 months and still doesnā€™t sleep through the night. Sometimes it does not matter what the baby eats. That is still a pretty young age for them to be sleeping through the night and there is a four-month sleep regression you should look up at that age.

2- it was about 7m
3- he was 2 and still waking 1-2 times a night for different reasons
4-she would wake once for about 6m.

Usually between 6m-1y they have it down that they donā€™t need the night feeding anymore

My 6 yo slept through the night at like 3 weeks old. I did nothing to influence this. My twins didnā€™t sleep through the night consistently till like 8 or 9 months no matter what I did. Every baby is different, and they grow at their own pace. Be patient. 4 months is still pretty little yet.

Try giving him his bath before bed. Use a lavender was.

My son is 4.5 months and sleeps through the night. If he does wake up I give him a paci and he falls right back to sleep until Morning. Sometimes I have to do that 2-3 times! (No heā€™s not hungry because if heā€™s hungry he doesnā€™t stop crying even with a paci, so if heā€™s hungry I feed him, so donā€™t say shit to me lol) a baby can sleep through the night at 2 months , so donā€™t listen to everyone. Also, my son eats cereal and baby food, because heā€™s ready. If his doctor says itā€™s ok & heā€™s ready then itā€™s okay!

:joy::joy::joy: none of mine slept thru the night til they were like 2ā€¦ Good luck
