How to ween baby?

How do I ween my little mans onto just watered down cows milk and baby food? Is that okay for an almost seven month old? Where do I even start? I’m trying to slowly only feed him a boob at night then during the day just baby food and water and smoothies, because breastfeeding him isn’t enough to fulfill his hunger…help, advice, tips? Gahhh :weary:

No milk till 12 months.

And you have to start with really runny baby rice cereal

You probably aren’t making enough milk to keep him full. Supplement with formula. Way to young for regular milk, specially watered down. No smoothies either.

Babies aren’t suppose to drink cows milk until they are one year old… so either breastmilk or formula until he turns one… probably no smoothies either.

You have to keep breasts feeding him during the day to or he will starve and not get enough vitamins

Too small for cows milk his only 7 months , just give him a breakfast lunch a snack in between dinner and something light before bed x

No that’s not okay. It needs to be breast milk or formula until 1. You should give him food sometimes but not for his main meals

Nursing is best. No milk until 1 year. Try cereal to keep him fuller longer. I don’t know why you’d want to water down milk at only seven months sheesh.

Food before One is just for fun. His nutrients and primary source of food should come from breastmilk or formula until he’s 1.

Don’t do cows milk this early. His main source of nutrition comes from milk at this age, so you would need to switch to formula if you no longer want to bf. He doesn’t need smoothies, far to young x

breastmilk OR formula needs to be his MAIN source of nutrition until 1. not water, smoothies, juice, puree/table food, or watered down whole milk.

WATERED DOWN COWS MILK?!!?? What in the world are they teaching these women now days??? WATERED DOWN!?!?!? That’s what my sis in law did to save on money for milk :rage: I also have her kids as fosters partially for that!
That’s taking the goodness away from the milk. You eat with watered down milk.
Obviously, I do not mean take away breast milk or formula at this age, yesssss continue it for the goodness in it at least the first year! (I never thought I’d need to edit this to add that but apparently I did)

My baby is 14. I have 3~19/15&14… all started on WHOLE COWS MILK with NO watering it down at around 6 months and they’re perfectly fine. I really do not get this. :woman_facepalming:t2:
My pediatrician put them on cereal within a week old and they were preemies. We went to baby food within a couple of months and table food by 1… now I see comments saying only breast milk for the first year??? Goodness no wonder these babies have issues and posts of moms killing themselves and stuff. I’m sorry but this is insane. Babies have lived since the beginning of man eating. Why starve them til one now?

Omg no!
Please look up the group milky momma’s breastfeeding support on here and no cow’s milk period until baby is 12mos old

So my daughter rejected formula and went to cows milk before 1, but she was 10 months and I got the ok first from her Dr. Always get Dr approval for anything like this. My girl are table foods 3 times a day plus snacks when she was 10 months. When she was 7months she was also on table foods but still got formula about 2-4 times a day. Do not take away breastmilk until you talk to Dr or go to formula.

Mama, your baby needs breastmilk/formula right as a main source of nutrition. Certainly not watered down cows milk or smoothies :disappointed: they can have mashed up food, purées, but still need formula or breastmilk the most.

I had my daughter on cows milk at 7 months old I just made sure she was getting 1 meat and a wide variety of vege to try cover all her needs

I think you should call your pediatrician and get some educational info directly from him / her. I’ve seen them give formula samples or give resources to moms who need assistance getting formula if there is a financial issue. Your little man needs to be on formula or breast milk until at least 12 months. That is his primary source of nutrients. Food is just introductory at this point in his life and shouldn’t be his main source of nutrition.

What the fuck… Okay so no COWS MILK before 1 year old… If you’re having trouble breast feeding then you NEED FORMULA! Even if it’s the generic version like Parent’s Choice from Wal-Mart or the Up&Up target brand which are insanely affordable.
And you don’t even really have to do baby food unless he’s super hungry but the general rule is FOOD BEFORE ONE IS JUST FOR FUN!!!

Top him up with formula, I know milk is cheaper, but it will mess with poor bubbas insides, a tin of formula is good for 4 weeks, I’m glad you have asked on here and hope you follow our advice.

No on the water and the cows milk. Keep breastfeeding or pump and feed or buy formula. Your baby will not get enough nutrients from water and baby food during the day. At 7 months, baby feed is just an addition, not meant to be their primary source of food.

We did baby food and 4oz bottle after every meal. Then table foods and 4oz bottle. At 12 months we switched to milk after meals. And water in between with snacks. We don’t do juice.

I’m assuming a family member suggested the cow’s milk… A baby cannot digest cows milk so it’s not good for their tummy. At 6 months you can begin giving your baby a simple food puree… And just a few teaspoons of water. If you are wanting to ween I would suggest pumping and giving the baby a bottle of your breast milk. I also recommend you speak to your pediatrician about the babies diet to help give you guidance.

Don’t do it! My neighbor did that and her son got so sick for a long time. He had to stay in the hospital.

Do some of y’all just not take your kid to pediatricians at all?
No mom knows everything, but I swear some of these questions are ridiculous. Something like this is common knowledge, or at least it should be.

Breast milk or formula until a year (baby food or blw should be introduced at 6 months, but breastmilk/formula should still be their main source of nutrition)

Why do you think breast milk isn’t enough? What’s going on? Frequent nursing is normal. They go through growth spurts, and they nurse for comfort. Unless they’re losing weight or not having enough wet diapers, you’re making enough.

If they are losing weight, etc top off with formula.

Breastmilk or formula should be his #1 source of food until he’s 1.

No cows milk (it’s really only for cows!) If he’s not satisfied, pump your milk, add cereal for his before bed meal. Give that to him in a borttle.

If you cant do breastfeeding then you will need to do formula…until the dr says it’s ok to do different and it can be dangerous to water down an infants bottle or give them water at all at this age…if you switch to formula make sure it’s made correctly and please dont try to wean unless its onto formula. My daughters pediatrician did let her start weaning at 10months but the dr needs to check and make sure babe is properly thriving first. A baby can have food at this age but most of their nutrients will still be coming from either breastfeeding or formula feeding and there are programs and places that can help you with formula as well as nutrition for your baby going forward. Also dint be afraid to ask your pediatrician questions about anything and everything for baby rn

No cows milk until 1 and then not to be watered down!!
Breast milk/formula is the main food source, other food is just an extra please dont start cutting down on his milk its important!

No cow’s milk until 1, mama. Look up Breastfeeding Mama’s on here. It’s a great support group. You can try soft foods, mashed or pureed, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, avocado, bananas, even baby food. Whatever your preference & whatever you’re most comfortable giving YOUR baby.

We didn’t have formula when I and my siblings were born. I know that cow milk can cause constipation, Mom put something in it to avoid that. I used formula for my son, but never understood the ‘milk’ deal. We are all alive and well with what Mom did.

Breastfeeding IS enough at 7 months old. Breast milk or formula should be the majority of his food ti 12 months. Do not give your baby cows milk ESPECIALLY WATERED DOWN COWS MILK until they are 1! Yikes. No no. Do not ween him off breastmilk whatsoever yet unless its to go in formula. Give mashed foods in small amounts. Give baby some cereal like (cooked and thinned with breast milk) cream of whole wheat or pureed cooked oatmeal for breakfast and dinner and try a veggie for lunch. Just small amounts. Talk to your childs dr for food advive because you really need to learn the basics before you change anything. Whatever you do, do NOT take away daytime breastmilk or any feedings he wants. Give boob and lots of it. Its all he needs. You may not be feeding him enough since they seem hungry when they have growth spurts. Juat give him a few extra feedings. And you never want to give watered down milk. IF you do give your child milk wait till after 12 months and then give whole milk. But there are better options than cows milk.

No Cows milk until after one! Then we still used rice and cows milk. Kefir for Calcium. At 7 months you can start “meals” get a child’s plate and do a small serving of pureed meat, a starch like rice or potatoes pureed and a vegetable puree. Fruit for snacks. FEED YOUR KIDS MAN! Everything doesn’t have to come out of a bottle when they start baby foods.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT feed him watered down ANYTHING at 7 months!!! Breastmilk or formula should be the main source of nutrition for the 1st year. FAILURE TO THRIVE is a real thing!

I supplement with goat milk. But at 7 months as long as he’s taking it ok I would say cow milk is fine. If goat milk is doable for you though I would definitely recommend that over cow milk. I have 5 kids, my first two were breast milk and formula babies, my last 3 were breast milk and goat milk babies, I saw a big difference. Research the benefits.

No cows milk until 1 as everyone else has stated. Until 1 breast milk or formula should be his main food source. Baby food is a supplement. At 1 switch him to whole cows milk and regular food. We always fed our kids whatever we were eating just smaller portions/cut up. At 7 mo the cows milk doesn’t have all of the nutrients he needs on its own especially if you are trying to water it down. And after 1 do not water down the milk. He needs those calories so watering down the milk defeats the purpose of giving him whole milk. If you’re needing help with these things, as many new or young moms do, please reach out to me or another mom on this page or call your pediatrician. Don’t feel bad asking for advice

Talk to your pediatrician but definitely dont water down your breastmilk. But at 6 months the baby’s stomach floor is fully devolved and you can start giving then baby cereal & oatmeal (made from your breastmilk or formula & if you chose not to supplement formula feeding or water) you can also start feeding your baby baby foods now. No honey until 1yro and you start giving the baby whole milk at 1yro (has to be whole milk not 2% or fat free, to help thier brain devolopement. And the milk is to accompanythe meal not replace the meal) never water down your breast milk or formula bc you are watering down thier nutritional value. It is safe to start giving your baby some water after 6 months of age) But definitely speak to your pediatrician as things have changed since you were a baby & with further research and such the big thing with moms giving cereal to a baby in a bottle isnt safe and feeding them baby food b4 6 months of age isnt safe either bc thier stomach floor is not fully developed until then and they can’t properly digest the food. Yea we were smoked with while moms were pregnant or in the car or same room was the child & car seat safety issues have changed which we were driven around not in a car we drank water from a hose & played in the dirt( the drinking water from the hose and playing in the dirt I highly recommend as it helps build thier immunity) but definitely do not turn to facebook for feeding advice with your child always talk to your pediatrician.

Do not water down the cows milk it should be full fat. I’m not judging but I’m a little shocked that people would ever consider it

Oh my god. People should not be having kids, I swear.

Breastmilk, or formula should be MAIN SOURCE of nutrition until they are one years old.
Any food is EXTRA.
You shouldn’t be introducing cows milk, or any other milk, until around 11mo old. That’s when you start making that transition to mainly milk, water, and normal food.

Dear lort. We should have a test to make sure someone knows the basics before they ever get pregnant.

Don’t give your baby milk normally! Every pediatrician is different and some will tell you that a little bit of milk here and there is ok but I disagree because it can constipate a baby and give them bellyaches. I didn’t start any milk until my babies were 11 months old then I slowly started introducing some milk I would give them mostly formula or breast milk which ever they were getting then add just a little bit of milk to it and once they turned 1 I switched fully to milk and they both just drank it I didn’t really have to ween them from it! Give your little one baby food and soft table foods that’s good but keep letting your little one nurse because that breast milk has nutrients and antibodies that your baby still needs you should be nursing 4-6 times a day and don’t give your baby anything but breast milk unless directed by doctors because it’s still early for juice and just water too! I’d say start around 9-10 months old!

Dont water down his milk if he isnt drinking formula…and feed him any and all foods he will eat. The more solid foods the less formula or milk bottles needed.

Babies need the fat from whole milk even though you shouldn’t just give him milk at 7 months if you choose to do that don’t water it down. You could try either supplementing with formula or maybe half breast milk half whole milk(I didn’t breastfeed so I’m not sure if that’s totally accurate so I’d ask your child’s pediatrician first)

I think he’s to young to come off the boob or formula. If the boob isn’t enough then just switch to bottle fed formula, rite? And baby food of course.

Humans don’t need cows milk in the first place. Incorporate real whole foods like fruits, veggies for fun but not all the timd. And if your tired of breastfeeding, then switch to formula not watered down cows milk. Hes only 7 months, stop rushing him.

Babies NEED the nutrients in breast milk or formula for the first year for healthy brain growth. At 7 months baby milk should still be the number one source of food for them along with fruits and veggies, and oatmeal.
And I can’t rememeber exactly, but I think their water in take should be no more than two oz a day.
If hes not being fulfilled by the boob, it may be time to supplement formula in. You could still only breastfeed at night and then formula feed during the day.

Babies need to be on formula or breast milk until at least one year of age. They rely on it for their main source of nutrition. It sounds like he may be in a leap or growth spurt. I wouldn’t do watered down baby food… By seven months baby should be getting his milk and eating some baby food. You can do both.

No cows milk until 1 year old was always my rule.

No watering down- your doctor will let you know when it’s time. Don’t rush this stuff and once it’s cow milk it’s whole milk first.

I think everyone should stop yelling at her and lecturing her and she should just go to a pediatrician for advice and her concerns. Everyone’s child is different with different needs so everyone’s gonna bark different opinions. Just go to a pediatrician and get this advice.

The reason for no cows milk is there is not iron in it to help baby grow properly. That is why formula or breast milk till 1 year you can breast feed and still supplement with formula if you are tired of breastfeeding. I would talk to your childs dr before doing anything like this though to make sure it is the right step

Omg people are so stupid. There is no magic switch that flips at 12 months and makes it “ok to have milk”. You DO NOT have to wait a year. By 10-11 months my baby was completely off formula and baby food and eating whatever food we had cut into tiny bites and regular milk meaning we started cutting down on bottles and increasing food before then. Never water down milk, but water down juice to cut the sugar. I don’t understand why people starve their babies the first year and feed them only formula or breast milk. Feed the babies! My son had a fructose sensitivity and couldn’t handle juice. We went to a nutritionist and I was told that the drastic increase in food allergies is due to people withholding foods for so long. The pediatric nutritionist said that by 6 months baby should have already been introduced to eggs, peanut butter, yogurt, and wheat in order to reduce the chances of an allergy to those high allergen foods. By 7 months he was getting around 3 bottles a day with his meals and the rest was food.

You don’t ween your baby off of breast or formula until they are closer to 1, or you are being advised to do so by a doctor. At 7 months, most of their nutrients should still be coming from milk. They just don’t get the right nutrients from cows milk.

They dont usually want you to wean them off of formula until 11-12 months

Start him on mushed cereals, first thing in the morning that way you can watch for allergic reactions throughout the day. Cows milk at 7 months old is too soon, there is not enough protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals in it to sustain your baby.

Why would you water down anything? Why

Every baby is different. 2 of mine took formula till 11 or 12 months one decide she wouldnt take formula anymore period and wouldnt drink it. So whole milk it was at 8 months. Shes now 11 and a beast. All of mine also started baby food and table food way way earlier than adviced, my grandmother fed them like she fed her kids when they were babies. I am very old school when it comes to raising kids so I did everything the way my grandparents advised verses the doctor. Talk to the babies doctor. As much as we can give advice no 2 kids are the same. Do what you feel is best and dont worry about what others think.

Ask your doctor (unless you have and they said for you kid is was ok). Every kid is different and, ladies let’s not be so judgmental.
My son was like that just like starving all the time, he was on cereal @ 3 months and baby foods at 5-6 months. Hes almost 9 months now and he’s healthy as a horse and a biiggg boy! So I get it. I personally started my kids with unsweetened almond, pea or coconut milk (we don’t really drink milk & dad has lactose issues so I didn’t wanna go there). So unless there’s any allergy maybe those would be better choices? I know Ripple (is made from peas) is loaded with protein and my daughter (3) loves it. My son prefers the banana almond milk.
Another suggestion— I make him bottles that are a pouch of food (like fruits and yogurt or something kinda thin) mix formula and a little cereal with it and he has those 2-3 times a day so he’s still staying hydrated & getting his formula in. Otherwise he eats about 6-7 pouches/jars of baby food (2.5-3 2x a day and one as a snack). Just try to look for higher protein and carbs to keep him fuller. Hope this helps. I know a hungry baby boy is not a happy one it’s really hard to keep them satisfied!! Good luck momma!

And everyone else, you can give constructive ideas rather than saying negative crap NO NEVER GIVE YOUR BABY X-y or z. You don’t know her or her doctor so again, less judgment please… come on. We’re here to support and help not judge.

I would try formula before cows milk and dont dilute the cows milk if you do. Your baby isnt satisfied because he isnt getting enough calories. There are more calories in breastmilk than baby food. And babies under 12 months shouldn’t be drinking water. Especially not regularly.

What all of them said!!! Not even close to being old enough for cows milk or weaning. Your baby is hungry AF.

No watered down milk at all. He NEEDS formula or breastmilk til one year old. If cost is an issue there are programs to help you get formula.

You can use cows milk in porridge, mash potatoe & food stuff etc as its used in yoghurts but in a beaker or bottle boob or formula… :heart:xxx

First of all, no cows milk until 1 year old. But why would you water down cows milk? Dilute juice when he starts drinking that, but honestly my son is 18 months and he drinks only milk and water, I give him juice as a small treat maybe once a week.

Baby food is fine. Pediatricians usually tell you to start solids between 4-6 months. My son wasn’t interested in eating the purée baby food, and when I would try to spoon feed him he would shake his head and try to snatch the spoon out of my hand, so he went straight to tiny pieces of chicken (like, teeny tiny) and fruit and he would feed himself under my supervision. All kids are different so don’t stress too much, but again please dont start cows milk until 1 year. He will still get a good portion of his nutrients and calories from breastmilk or formula.

You can’t water down milk. Watering down milk waters down the nutritional and fat content and at that point it wouldn’t be beneficial for the baby to drink it. You also can’t switch to whole milk until 1 year.
If you aren’t producing enough breast milk then you need to either supplement with formula or switch to formula. You’re keeping him from getting all the nutrition he needs which comes mostly from breast milk or formula before the age of 1.
