I'm living a lice nightmare, help!

I went through a bad lice problem this summer with my boy’s my daughter didn’t get it?! Everything I used the lice would still be moving afterwards it was like super lice!! I found Nix Ultra and it’s the best thing ever it killed everyone and unlike the rest of the shampoo it makes the hair soft shiny and smell great!! It’s ridiculously priced but so worth it!

I combed my daughter’s hair piece by piece with tea tree oil, took me hours lol. Put a shower cap on her head after and let it sit in her hair all day and over night. Took absolutely everything out of the house to a laundry mat and bombed the house.

My sister use to get it every week for years no one in the house would get it but her the only thing that worked wasn’t just cutting her hair but shaving it all off and after that she never got lice again and liked trying the short hair styles

We fought them for over a year spending hundreds of dollars. Blow-dry and comb every day and use lice shampoo (surprisingly the off brand stuff at Walmart worked best) and used the doctors script every 3 to 4 weeks. Bag up ALL of her stuffed animals and let them sit for several weeks in bags too.

Honestly after a half a year of the same thing we caved in and shaved there heads. It was getting super overwhelming on everyone

I don’t know where you live but there’s a place you can call is called the lice Clinic but they do charge to remove the lice look it up and see where there is one close to you they’ll it’s worth a try since you’ve tried everything else remove all the lights and from her hair they said it’s guaranteed it’s worth a try to see if there’s one close to you since you’ve tried everything else

Blow dry her hair after every shower. Lice don’t like heat. I never got them when my girls were little because I straighten my hair every day. I started blow drying their hair after every shower and we haven’t had any lice in our house since. It’s been 8years or more!

I see a lot of good advice. I would also suggest to section her hair and put a straightener on high head and get as close to the scalp and possible and straighten it. The heat kills them.

Does your town have a lice clinic? You take your child and they use special equipment to get rid of it

My granny put real mayonnaise in our hair and had us sleep then wash it out it suffocated the lice and the mayo is great for your hair

Try dying her hair. My daughter used to have it alot until she started dying her hair, then never had it again.

When my daughter was little we had this problem over and over then one day we were talking and she said no one would play with this little girl in class so she was sharing her hairbrush with her at school.

Olive oil leave it in all day. Then at night lather it with conditioner leave it in and on morning wash her hair. This what I did to my nieces hair and no more lice

Cut the hair. Its sad but it will work

The only thing that worked for us was buying alcohol based hair gel and add more alcohol. Mix and fully soak the hair. Leave it on for at least 3 days.

Cut it and dye her hair a color she wants because dying her hair will kill the lice!

Olive oil and shower cap, is the best thing. If that doesn’t work, you might have to cut her hair. Had the same nightmare years ago with my daughters hair.

I had hair like that when I was very young and got lice. After 2 months of no success My mom ended up getting my hair cut and then doing treatments 2x a day. It finally worked after day 3 with cleaning the bedding couches and car daily too

Saturate her head in mayonnaise and leave on for 2 hours. It suffocates the lice. While doing that, wash EVEYTHING in scalding hot water. This worked for us :woman_shrugging:

She has to be getting it from someone ! My parents cut my hair short when I was kid because I would get it all the time and they thought it was cause my hair was long and it wasn’t going away , turns out I was getting it from someone at school

Shit … Been there … There is a rx ur doc can write that will end this for u … If u tell then u have done it all and no results … They will write it … Its ivomectin pour on in animals but I can’t remember the human name of it … But tell ur doc its super lice and u tried everything … I only leave the stuff on for four min or it can leak into ur brain … But it works!

Tea tree oil! 4oz of water with 20 to 25 drops of tea tree essential oil in a spray bottle! Kills it within 30 mins. We have never had it but it’s what the school recommends per the health dept!

Spray your house everyday with an essential oil blend of tea tree and lavender. I just mix it into a mist bottle with water and spray the house plus my kids hair before doing it in the morning. Specially if she will be with a friend that is notorious for having head lice.

Baby oil and a comb , then apple cider vinegar and wash

Put mayonnaise on her hair, wrap it in a towel and leave it over night, then wash. Her sheets have to be washed and whole house cleaned and disinfected including clothes and hairbrush.

I had that problem with my niece. I started to dye her hair the chemical in the dye kills them

Cut her hair very very short

Coconut oil and peppermint oil wrap her hair for 8 hrs

Don’t forget to spray your car, a lot of times that is overlooked

Treat the car seats also.

Fruit wash from the figi islands

There was a terrific natural nit killer on market was awesome

I remember when my kid had it an got it from school an i tried everything an then some one told me mayo an i did it an i had to keep it in for an hour it worked

Have you remembered to de lice your vechiles I think most overlook this part. Bag everything that isn’t needed everything super lice is harder to get rid of bit persistence will get u there we have a lice squad in our area I always find the best help is the pharmacy also the outsood woods fly spray for the house. Tea tree oil and cinnamon leaf oil in a cup under the bed spray every day in the hair is what I use here

Fairy Lice Mother if you ha e it where you live is fantastic

Don’t cut her hair. Use the mayonnaise and keep her hair braided or up so it’s not hanging loosely.

I had really long and thick hair and kept getting lice from a friend when I was a kid. The second time I got it my mom ended up cutting my hair and I cried for hours over it, but it did help. She also smothered my hair in I think Vaseline and put a grocery bag over it for a few hours then did the lice shampoo. You also need to put all of her stuffed animals or anything like that that can’t be washed in a trash bag for like a month or two to suffocate the lice on them.

Make sure to wash pillows too or they will never go away

Please don’t cut her hair depending on where you live there’s professional dehydration that worked wonders for my daughter who has long hair past her butt. I used Dr Lice it was pretty pricey but worth it. Almost a year of trying everything on my own and one visit to Dr Lice and I haven’t had an issue ever again.

NATROBA!!! IT’S A PRESCRIPTION THAT YOUR DOCTOR CAN CALL IN. DON’T LET THEM TALK YOU INTO ANYTHING ELSE. IT EVEN DISINTEGRATES THE NITS. Make sure you wash everything cloth and replace all hair accessories or wash them

Thyme, tea tree, and rosemary oils, one tablespoon of each in one quart of distilled water. You can spray this on anything and it will kill lice and eggs. It burns the back of the neck, but I swear to you it works.

Straight her hair. They will burn to death very quickly

I dumped teatree oil on my daughters hair. I’m not going to lie it made her hair extremely greasy but it got rid of them. This was after tons of treatments.

Have you tried tea tree oil? My daughter had the same type of hair. I doused her scalp in the oil and pulled it into a somewhat tight ponytail. All the live ones came to the surface to die. It was a process, but we finally were able to get all the nits out.

Try bleaching her hair . Or dying it.

My daughter had lice a couple years ago and had read olive oil suffocates them so I did that and wrapped it tightly over night and it helped her

Mayonnaise in her hair. Wrap it up & leave for a little while, then rinse. Also, treat the car as well as bedding, couches…

Mayo on overnight, tea tree oil in her shampoo, not tea tree shampoo but drops in a regular shampoo. Stronger. Bag the mattress and pillows. All stuffed animals bagged and set outside in the heat for a week.

When combing her hair
Take teeny tiny sections. Thick hair is so hard work with for
This.

I had tried everything with my daughter and the only thing that got rid of them was dying her hair

Have you tried Rubbing alcohol? Just slowly pour it on her hair and use a lice comb?

Put her toys and stuffed animals in a bag for 3 weeks and we spray our daughters bed with flea spray it had the same chemicals as lice spray. I also use mule tide borax on the carpet. Leave it on 2 days. Sweep and put it back down for 2 more days. You can put it on the bed also it will not hurt the pets.

Coca-Cola!!! Drench her hair and let it dry

Mom used to do mayonnaise and a plastic bag overnight and then she would come through my hair, wash then comb through again. I had head lice all the time when I was younger. It worked every time! Good luck!

My daughters hair is down to her butt and very thick too. This worked like a charm.
Buy a huge bottle of conditioner get a nit comb metal bristled not plastic a shower cap damp her hair load as much of the conditioner on it as possible make sure the cap is tight over her head leave it for an hour and comb it out with the conditioner still in it separating hair with alligator clips as your go it will remove all lice and nits and while shes sitting with it on her head spray EVERYTHING with lice spray including mattresses couch chairs carpets put stuffed animals in 2 black bags for 2 weeks and place in a dark place wash all bedding and pillows and dry in heat. After the 2 weeks with stuffed animals run them thru the dryer on high for 10 minutes then put them in new bags and leave for 2 more weeks this insures anything that could have hatched in the dryer will definitely be dead then wash and dry as normal and that should take care of it. Oh and dont forget to treat all vehicles and carseats as well. And your bed or anyone elses in the house it needs to be done with everything.

Listen. I had the same issue. Until I came across Lice Freee. It’s a natural spray that uses reverse osmosis. It dries out the eggs and bugs and kills them. You just spray all over the hair, let it dry and wash. You can comb afterwards and everything will be dead. After I found this spray, my mother in law got live immune to even prescription shampoo. This spray was the only thing that worked. It’s cheap too.

Tea tree oil! Put it in the conditioner and keep it on her head for like a half hr with a cap on daily. I still keep it in the conditioner as a preventative lol Make a leave in conditioner with it to in a spray bottle. Put alcohol and tea tree oil in a squirt bottle and spray down house and beds every day

We had it for 6 weeks…nightmare! My problem was the stuffed animals that were in the net that was hung up in the corner of her room!

We used the medicine the doctor sent in and a whole tub of Mayo shower cap on the head and a bag for added measure. Worked after the 1 time an made her hair super soft. The Mayos oils help it all slide out.

Go get Ivermectin pour from a Vet and mix with conditioner .

We did this many times with my daughter and myself… messy but it never failed… 20-30% eucalyptus oil, 70% olive oil… smother the hair, tie it up… cover the pillow with towels and sleep the night. Wash out with plenty of shampoo and conditioner
The eucalyptus is great because it dries out the eggs… And the combination kills the live nits… the oil is good for the hair also…
It’s a pain getting the eggs out but at least I was always sure they were dead

Shave it :slightly_smiling_face: that’s what I would do lol

You need to treat any soft surface… stuffed animals, extra pillows and blankets need to be put in trash bags for a few weeks and then washed and dried on the hottest setting. You need to treat beds, couches, rugs, cars, car seats. And keep treating and combing.

Tea tree oil. That’s it, very simple. Wash everything in hot water. Clothes, bedding, towels, etc. Trust me I’ve been there. I completely understand.

Some areas have a lice clinic that can remove for you.

You have to re treat in 7 days or they will never go away the nits hatch every 7 days. Live can’t live over 24 hrs with out a human host. I used mayo covered hair out hair cap over that let them sleep on it had to be atleast 4 hours that’s how long they can hold their breath then wash out like normal with shampoo don’t comb nits just repeat in 7 days

Get snorkeling gear or a long tub. Put her underwater for 25 minutes it’ll drown the lice. Wash EVERYTHING and spray 50/50 water/vinegar on everything. Worked perfectly when I was a kid and got lice. I got it from sharing a helmet. Make sure she isn’t sharing anything and keep her hair braided.

I cut my daughter’s hair off for this reason and she LOVES it!

Same parts vinegar and alcohol saturate hair really good and tie a grocery bag on it let sit for abt an hour repeat in 5 days until all are gone

I love head hunters from Amazon. I leave it on all day then rinse comb and repeat for like a week straight

Oral prescription of ivermectin

Take coconut oil and dose it in her hair! And then comb through. Or take mayo then cover over night and then comb thru. Put all clothes, and blankets and pillows in black garage bags for a couple days and then wash.

My daughter has a thick main down to her butt. A couple years back we had this issue. I after weeks of failing, smothered her head in coconut oil and went through one small section at a time, starting at the bottom, removing the bugs and their eggs. After each section was gone through I put a braid in it so I knew it was done. This did take us almost a week to complete. The coconut oil cannot hurt her and it smothers the lice so they are there but dead until you pick them out. It is time consuming but it was the only way to keep her hair the length it is.

Soak hair in Listerine with a hair cap for at least 20 min. Wash. Use zapping comb. Blow dry high heat. Repeat every night for about 5-7 days. Everyone’s hair, though. Not just hers. Also don’t forget to wash pillows and blankets every night during. And sanitize combs/brushes/hair accessories

I called lice pros out the lice nowadays aren’t like regular lice they’re known as super lice they told me to get vamousse it does work but vinegar and alcohol works better

I have long thick hair myself and what always works for me is cheap conditioner, lice comb and putting tea tree oil on E V E R Y T H I N G

Are you also treating everyone’s hair in household? There may be a outside source also, does she go to a friends house a lot, stay over night at friends house! Use someone else’s comb, brush, hair things? Try on play clothes at day care? These were all things we found parents didn’t consider when kids had lice! You could do everything at home and find it’s not the source at all! (Worked in school so these are thing we ran across a lot)

Use motor oil words Great in their hair kills the net and lice But you have to wash hair three or four times after it sets for awhile I know this word for sure

Cut her hair almost to shoulders! I had to with my daughter’s years ago

Soft perm sorts it out

Try tar soap it’s available in Tesco etc ,strong smelling but it works on killing lice.

Make sure you also use lice spray on all furniture… Car etc…

I mix coconut or olive oil with a few drops of tea tree oil. Put it on and plastic cover. An hour is good. You can even heat it up a LITTLE with the hair dryer. Wash and do use conditioner with tea tree oil in it as preventative.
Vacuum and put bedding :sleeping_bed:, pillows and stuffed toys in the dryer. Works and no need for poison on your kids hair!!!

Try coconut hair grease or baby oil , tht should help. But if it don’t help and u trying everything then tht leave u no other options to cut it short. And if u she going to school then u would want do it before school bcuz ur not gona want her to go school and the school send her home. Once she has head lice it will always come back. My cousin’s girls r going thru this and my cousin finally cut both their girls hair short and now they don’t have any more and they love there hair short

Cut her hair very short and put her long hair in the garbage to remove the head lice out of the house. Keep everything washed and machine wash stuffed toys in hot water and v wash everthing else she uses. Don’t share hair accessories or combs/brushes… Her hair will grow back.

When I was a kid, if one of us got it, we all got it and it felt impossible to take care of. Those OTC treatments really don’t work. I know some people use mayo, or tea tree oil, or simply cut their hair to start fresh. But my mom was so desperate to get rid of it, she brought me to my dad’s house and he sat there and used vinegar to comb through my hair. They were falling out in bunches. He’d use a regular lice comb and dip it in a cup or a bowl vinegar and comb through. I can guarantee you, me and my mom were amazed. After everything we tried, nothing was as successful as vinegar. And tbh, I never got lice again after that. That was the last time it ran rampant through our house. Good luck to you and your family, I’m sure she won’t want to shave or cut her hair, but try the vinegar and let it sit. Lice love clean hair. The greasier it starts to get, they will vacate.

Are you treating her stuffed animals, the cars and furniture? Not just the bedding and her hair. Treat EVERYONES hair. Throw the pillows in the dryer every day. By old Lysol and put in the washing machine when washing clothes. It’ll stick but helps. Bag up every stuffed animal in garbage bag for at least 7 days. Get the furniture spray and spray the furniture and cars multiple times a day.

This happened to me as a child, third grade all year long. Unfortunately the last choice was to have all my hair cut off. I was so sad, and I hated it. Hopefully you guys can find something that works! Some people’s hair is just more prone, and lice like it more then others. :disappointed:

If your daughter is old enough dye her hair. Last time i had lice, i dyed my hair qnd i guess the chemical sitting in your hair for 45 minutes helps get rid of lice

just shave her head

Hydrogen peroxide.
Soak hair in it for 10-15 minutes, then shower as normal. Go through the hair with a lice comb until there’s no eggs or bugs left, disposing of them in boiling hot dawn dish soap water. Then blow dry. Wash all clothes, hats, bedding and hair tyes in hot water and dry on high.

I’ve used dippity do, lots of it, with plastic cover.

I’m not saying do this but my uncle used kerosene on my hair. I would advise cutting her hair though. I know its sad. But it will help a lot!

Coat her head in mayonnaise and put a shower cap over it for a couple of hours. Her hair will smell for a little while but it works. Also put all her stuffed animals, bedding, pillows, etc in trash bags and tie up tight and put in the garage for a week. The lice will suffocate. Then wash everything with warm water and detergent before putting it back. I hope you get rid of it! I know it’s horrible! This also works too for daily prevention.

Dye her hair then use a straightener a nurse told me to do this to my stepdaughter

Don’t cut her hair! Take beding stuffed toys and put them in back trash bags put the outside in the sun. I personally would leave for 48 hours. Clean your car, car seats couches chairs everything. If you live near a bigger city they may have a lice removal salon. It will be very pricey but take her. Check everyone’s head. Treat everyone and everything. Make sure when your vacuuming your not emptying the contents inside. Some places like orkin can treat your house too.

You need to get rid of teddy bears and all pillows or at least put in garbage bags and seal them shut and get out of the house for a good two months to make sure they alll die. Get all new pillow and even clean the car.

Always BLOW DRY HER HAIR.

I remember having to go thru this with my now grown daughter when she was little…3 times. Either parents don’t treat heir kids and send them to school or they get resistance built up to meds. There are businesses that are literally nitpickers that can be pricey but are worth every penny. Google for your area. There is also a lotion that’s spinosad but I can’t remember technical name. It’s great because it works on all stages of lice and you don’t have to comb dead eggs out, though I figure you would want to regardless. Insurance usually covers it. Spray your furniture, mattresses, and vehicle. Freeze or stow stuffed animals in trash bags for a week. Lice can’t survive off the host after a day or so and die off. But it’s important to retreat around 2 weeks later to make sure no eggs hatched. I also vacuumed and mopped with bleach. You may want to consider braids or buns to keep her hair from contact with other kids. Stress no sharing brushes, hats, etc. Most of all, take a deep breath and realize this to shall pass.
