My 10 year old has ADHD and is struggling with hitting puberty: Advice?

Tranquil Sleep. I buy it on Amazon. It worked WONDERS on my hyper 12 yo.

Jesse McTeer I too use the tv sleep. Helps with anxiety too.

Warm tea help my girls and they adhd . and prepuberty.

Caffeine. You can ask the doctor for caffeine pills.

maybe try a nice hot shower followed by some sleepytime tea.

Warm milk, calming tea with a little honey

Try to take her to the doctor and get her on clonidine

Look for a foot zone practioner/therapist around your area.

Meditation music n deep breathing

I heard cherry juice was good

Have you tried essential oils? Those can be used in diffusers or with lotions. Have her do her bedtime routine brush teeth say good nights etc 30mins to an hour before bed then she can read color or cuddle in bed with the diffuser on so as she starts to relax she doesn’t have to get up to do anything. I myself have a hard time shutting my brain off and this really helps. Maybe even an audio book or something so she can lay down and listen to a story with her eyes closed and keep her mind occupied until she drifts off.

Talk about overload, there are some good ideas here. Thanks for the long read

Where did you get the CBD? Quality CBD should not have any side effects. She should also be taking it as a daily supplement along with a nighttime dose, not only to sleep.

Maybe try meditation or yoga

Try lavender bath soak.

I know tv actually helps me sleep when my anxiety is getting to me, it keeps my mind off all the thoughts messing with me, sometimes music helps too…

Is she also on ADHD meds? My son is Autistic, ADHD, and has anxiety. We tried for years to keep him off ADHD meds and thought we could handle it ourselves. For 7 years he barely ever slept, was angry and irritable, and couldn’t focus at school or home. We finally put him on the ADHD meds and his anxiety has dropped tremendously, he sleeps now and on a normal schedule, he pays attention in school and home… It’s been amazing. With ADHD their poor little minds are racing and they can get into times where they can hear you talk to her while also hear the tv, the ac, the dog two doors down, and not to mention other senses overloading like smell and touch if she is being touched… It’s a lot all at once and they get irritated and angry. Just my personal experience with this … no judgement love. Also try lavender essential oil in her room at night.

A weighted blanket might help

Make sure your child is taking their medication the earliest time possible.

My son will be 12 next month, A.D.H.D, Autism, anxiety, o.c.d., Social Integration Processing Disorder and a few other sensory issues (he is also on medication for his A.D.H.D.). He started puberty this March when Covid-19 set in and schools were closed. I’ve been giving my son 10 mg of Melatonin in gummy form for years. . .he was still having the same issues with his sleep. I’d give it to him at 7:30 p.m. every night and he’d still be wide awake by midnight or 1 a.m. I’d check on him repeatedly and he was so wide awake until exhaustion would set in and he’d be a zombie the next day. I don’t know when or if he slept at all. I decided to try something new. Vicks has a liquid form Melatonin called ZZZQuil Pure Zzs. It tastes like wildberry vanilla, has lavender and chamomile in it. It has 2 doses, 10mg and 20mg. Since it is summer, I let him stay up late until 10 (I spoil him). I give him 10 mg at 9:30 p.m. and by 10:30 p.m. his head is nodding. After we read, he goes right to sleep, he hasn’t woken up in the middle of his sleep cycle and he wakes up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. We are now into our 2nd month. I hope you find a solution that works.

Calming activities before bed helped me. Crafts drawing, coloring, etc.

I dont remember if you mentioned that she was on prescription medication but that stuff is horrible for kids. My son was on Vyvanse and it made him sick

I have anxiety, and honestly, having the tv on is the only way I can fall asleep. I know it’s weird, but it’s Forensic Files for me. The narrators voice is very calming. Maybe find a show that he can have on as background with the volume low that he can zone out with?? I need something I can focus on just enough to keep my mind from racing and going fifty thousand directions, but not sometime I’m interested enough to keep me awake.

Talk to your childs doctor also schools and school districts often have programs. Most important is YOU be involved and push for right treatment every child different and you know yours better then anybody.

My 10 yr old has severe ADHD with impulsivety issues. She takes Guanfacine which is a medicine that lowers blood pressure but it also calms the symptoms at night. We also get the kids sleep gummies (ill post a pic in the replies). They all help her.

My daughter had same problem and the dr had to prescribe her something to sleep because over counter stuff has opposite effect when it comes to adhd. When they give adhd meds it Is an upper but works as a downer to adhd kids. I would consult dr cuz I do not remember what they finally gave her to sleep

I have a 9yr old son who has adhd and anxiety. He takes his adhd and anxiety meds in the morning. And then he gets 3mg of melatonin before bed. I’ve learned on his bad days a bath with Epsom salt in it helps his body calm. And we’ve started using what’s pictured on his ankles and feet as well and it really helps. He turns his radio on to sleep to. And on the really bad days I will give him my shirt so he has a comforting smell on him and where theres a size gap between us he’ll typically curl up in my shirt and out like a light. Best of luck.

Bought this for my daughter from Amazon at the beginning of spring. She is 11…it is helping her learn about ADHD and how to navigate through the feelings.

I did an ADHD essential oils search on Etsy and it has some really good items

Magnesium bath (Epsom salt) or magnesium lotion before bed. Tart cherry juice an hour before bed for natural sources to promote sleep. Does she meditate? Mindfulness helps my ADHD 11 yr old boy at night. 5-9 mins, super quick and easy. Headspace or Calm apps.

I have a 10yr old daughter who is aDHD and has trouble sleeping. I give her 10mg of melatonin and 25 mg of Benadryl, melatonin gets her to sleep and Benadryl keeps her asleep! Works amazing my daughters daughter said this was ok. BUT CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FIRST!

My son had ADHD along with anxiety and his doctor put him on clonidine 0.2 mg that helped them a lot

I second omega 3s. They also help with focus which will reduce her anxiety.

Does she take anything for the ADHD? Possibly a mix of the anxiety med and ADHD MED…my daughter gets drowsy from her anxiety med. My older daughter was on meds for ADHD…we weaned her off when she hit puberty. Her doctor suggested it. As there’s so many changes that it would put her into a tailspin.

I can relate-you have a 10 year old that you still have control off, once she gets 13 the mouth starts and she spits out the medicine.
I would hate to recommend medication that all these posts mention because eventually she will result in not taking that medication.
I know you can rewire a brain John Hopkins is doing with adults using “ magic mushrooms which is LSD and it is a one time thing but I am sure they are not doing it with children.
I have had 2 children in my care that are now adults and never found a successful solution.
If I could have a redo-I think diet, processed foods chemicals etc. have a big deal to do with things like that, but I am talking deep down research and a committed person that is going to do that for years for their child so it becomes normal behavior, not every parent has that patience and time.
I have a friend that has gone to a doctor of Chinese medicine, this women is unbelievable, she can diagnose my friend and tell her what’s wrong and from that point my friend goes to her doctors and tells them to look for the situation and damn if every time this Chinese doctor is correct.
This Chinese doctor does not treat her give her any medication she does identifies the problem.
I would reach out to someone like that, I am not saying a holistic person I’m saying a real ancient Chinese doctor that knows 60 years worth of medicine.
Where to find a person like that I am not sure, but I know therapy and modern day drugs do not correct the situation or work in the long run.
Research and think outside the box, Mayo Clinic maybe, JHH, maybe there are hospitals with clinical trials that don’t involve traditional medication for children like this.

Have you tried a weighted blanket

Warm milk before bed I swear it works wonders.

Maybe some sleepy time tea after a lavender bath, some essential oils, and a noise machine. More exercise and mind stimulation during the day wouldn’t hurt.

My daughter had the same symptoms (anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, fatigue, irritability, etc) and I took her to get hormone levels checked because I felt like I could track the variance to her cycle. She was diagnosed with PCOS and her testosterone was super high, which caused her to feel completely crazy and out of sorts. Once they brought the testosterone down, she was herself again. It May be something to look into; she may have more than just ADHD going on. Good luck!

Get some melatonin…its a natural sleep aid that your body already produce’s . My son has adhd and is bi-polar, I had him on medications and took him off of them because when he came down from them he was worse. My suggest is be patient and communicate a lot. it;s never easy but if your patient and listen it can make things smoother

I have learned with my daughter, telling her I love her until she gets agitated with a smile!! I also take deep breaths with her!! No meds!! But, puberty and no socialization is causing the SEVERE ADHD!!

Well if u don’t want to be just doing ur child up!! Use techniques that will show ur child how u deal with him/ her it works!!

U have to play around with things!! Don’t give up!! Sometimes I have to walk away because we can’t all be frustrated!! But it’s ur child! Just play with some easy tactics that will work for ur child!! Trust they are not the same!!

closer to my senior year of high school i had the worst anxiety & i couldn’t fall asleep at night, and when i did, i would only sleep a few hours and be awake the rest of the night. i was put on anxiety medicine and that made it worse for me, but everyone’s bodies are different. i make sure i have everything planned out for the next day to make me less anxious, read a little bit of a book, or just lay and watch TV until i fall asleep

I know some children may need drugs!!! I guess!! But I’m truly old school!! I just try things to do until we get comfortable!!

I make my youngest do cute little workouts when she is being painfully annoying!

You could also try Lavender oil. Good luck with whatever you decided to try.
