Please don’t bash me but my 7 year old asked to get two sections of hair to be pink. She has semi dark hair so she would need it bleached. We tried hair chalk and all other things but the color doesn’t pick up. I’m nervous to do it and want to ask if anyone else has? I would be taking her in to a salon if I decide to go through with it.
Tips
Do the ends so you can cut it off when shes over it.
It’s just hair, I’d do it.
I don’t know. If you do it, you have to wait for it to grow out and then cut it. So make sure this is something she really wants.
My daughter wanted fashion colors like this when she was 5 and I gave in, it stunted the growth of her hair and she is now 11, and it still barely grows. I would do a section of colored extentions or colored “fairy” strands (tinsel), maybe even a pink feather. Those are all great options and it won’t ruin her hair. Hope that helps.
Edited to add you can also do hair wraps. Which is a few strands wrapped in colored thread or tinsel from root to tip. Google it for pictures but that is also pretty cute.
It’s hair it’ll grow back. Let her express herself!! It’s just hair!!
My granddaughter has had every color! It’s just hair!
Do the color extensions or hair wax/chalk!
Maybe a colored extension?
I did my daughter’s hair when she was 6 and used bleach on it for the first time.
I didn’t let the bleach sit long, and only did the tips of her hair.
She loved it.
I’ve redone it a few times now, and she’s about to be 9, and still has beautiful hair.
No no no and no…get a couple of clip in hair extension thingys…said Nana
So I’ve been letting my daughter do the ends of her hair, we started right after she turned 8. I don’t let her do all her hair, but it appeases her. This is what we did last night…
Just don’t do it yet,she has plenty of time for that when she’s older
Do it
It will be a fun mother and daughter bonding experience
For both of you
A good lesson for her to learn her body her choice. I say let her.
At that age, it would be a no from me. Extensions would be fine, but I would never recommend die or bleach on kiddos.
We’ve been doing my kiddos hair since she was like 3 and asked for it. We used to use artic fox. She hasn’t asked for it in a while but it washes out pretty quickly and it’s just hair
I made my daughter wait until 10. But that’s me. It’s your choice. At that age, I’d just add colored extension instead of dye
My kids have had purple pink and blue hair we do it every June at the end of the school year! It’s the best way to let your littles express themselves we’ve even done the full head, we used arctic fox, my two older girls have super dark hair and the pink showed up perfect, no bleach necessary and it washes out after a week!
Spray white, then spray pink over it if something non permanent will work. I did it with blue and white for my son with dark hair for crazy hair day. Or maybe clip ins? Maybe an ombré at the bottom?
They have vegan hair dyes in awesome colors on amazon ! Safe and not toxic!
I started doing my daughters hair when she was like six she’s 18 now and her hair is perfectly healthy and great and she still dyes it
I wouldn’t, 7 is pretty young and bleach is incredibly harsh on the hair.
My daughter is also 7, has dirty blonde hair and I put pink shampoo in her hair and left it on about 20min while she was in the bath. It’s just hair! She’s super happy and I’ve never received so many compliments! Go for it momma!!
There is a hair dye out there called Hi-Color it’s made for dark hair so you don’t have to bleach it
Do it we have been dying my daughters hair since 1st grade (?) Red. I do it every couple of months. And don’t let the dye sit for the full 45 minutes
My hair has been every color of the rainbow and then some. This resulted in all of my kids asking for colored hair.
We started with tips. We bleached them and colored them. When the color faded, we did another color. When they were over it, we cut their hair. No permanent damage.
When they got a bit older, we started doing some highlights.
Let her do it! It’s only hair. It gives her some independence and individuality.
Why do people do this. Colored hair is gross.
It’s only hair, let her express herself.
My kiddos hair is blonde but for it to stick well we did a bleach bath on her. She gets this every yr for good grades & no issues at school. Will continue this tradition as long as she wants. We use Brad Mondo Xmondo products. Really good for hair!
Do ittt! One day she is going to be grown and she is going to look back at her pink hair pics and smile at them. I do it every summer for my 4 kids. starting around age 4, our rule is that if you have to be able to sit for it the whole processing time. My little ones are growing up seeing the big ones do it so they knew what to expect by 4
My daughter started with pink tips. That way if she didn’t like it or the bleach completely fried her hair we could cut a few inches and still be ok.
When my cousin was 6 she wanted pink color in her hair. She is a beautiful brunette.
Her Mom called her salon and asked what to do. She was told to use Kool Aid. It sits on top of the follicles, lasts through 2 or 3 washings but never hurt her hair. She had so much fun using all of the colors on different parts of her hair. And like her Mom said it was a cheap way to change her hair color.
I’ve done it for all 3 of ours. Just research and it all depends on the hair. I use the temporary as they change colors often. So we usually do the 10 washes or so.
My son dyed his hair blue at 6, and he’s 12 and all of this year his hair has been bright red, next we’re doing bubblegum pink. My daughter first asked to dye her hair at 4, we dyed it pink. Since then she’s had it pink, black, bright red, and purple. Next she wants it blonde and since the purple is mostly faded, it should work out. Lol. I think it’s a great lesson in choosing their own style.
Pink tinsel extensions are easier than coloring
Let her its only hair grows back … pic n choose battles wisely momma…
I remember using a highlight cap before doing mine…it looked AMAZING. Effing amazing.
They make dye specifically for dark hair so you don’t have to bleach and then wait and dye etc. I used this few years back I have dark brown hair and used a light blue and it turned out great!
I let my 7 year old do fun colors with temporary dye that washes out within weeks. We try to stick to just streaks or the tips thought.
They make some great dyes now too, it’s not like it used to be!
My 6 year old son has a red Mohawk his confidence while having his hair done is definitely worth it
Have fun and do it. And they also have a hair color that comes out on brown hair. I would look it up since I forget what’s it called. But go for it
Do it!! I did my girls tips when they were that age.
My daughter first got her highlights at 9 did partial highlights she’s now 11 took her to a salon to get her highlights done I recently helped her with her highlights this time
Use artic fox Lightner and color its vegan
Kool- aid works really good and there is no risk of damage to her hair …the color combos are endless
They sell semi permanent hair dye specifically for dark hair so you don’t have to use bleach! I’ve used it and it’s awesome. L’Oréal and Overtone both make colors for dark hair, you can get it at Sally’s I think! Whatever you do just don’t use Splat from Walmart it’s AWFUL for your hair.
Ask her why she wants pink hair. Our 6-year old tried to leave the house with 2 different crocs. This is attention seeking. We need to find out the why!
For my daughter’s 5th birthday I took her to a salon and she got 2 small sections of semi-permanent pink. She has lighter hair so bleach wasn’t necessary but I would’ve consulted the stylist to see what the safest option would be if that hadn’t been the case. I think it’s awesome that you want to let your child express herself- and it’s such a harmless way to do it as long as you go to a reputable stylist who has her hair and scalp health in mind!
How about clip-ins? My daughter has very thin hair from coloring it from an early age.
Do it and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. Let her be her.
my kid was in maybe 4th grade. She wanted a phone because so many kids had phones. We compromised. I let her have pink hair. She loved it. She was ok with not having a phone then. it’s hair. it grows out. let her do it. this was my fav. I think she was 6th grade in here.
So about 5.5 years ago I came home from work fuming because my daughter had told me she dyed her hair green. Turns out it was red but I was so angry. 2 days later she was almost killed in a car accident. They had to shave her hair to do brain surgery. By the grace and love of god she survived and recovered but imagine if my last memory was being mad over hair color.
Girl give her that pink hair
My girls started getting stripe of color at 6-7. Whatever helps them feel empowered
I got a product from Brad Mondo that was semi perm
I did my 7 year olds red lol
Get her extension you can get them in all colors
My son wanted purple hair for his sixth birthday so we dyed it purple
My 6yr old has pink hair right now and has been dying it for a couple years on and off. We don’t bleach but use stuff like unicorn hair.
My rule is 10 years old for things like that. While it isn’t permanent it is a bit long term. Plus they have to sit for the process.
My 5yr old has split pink hair.
I have never dyed my hair & idw my daughter to either tell she is much older. I buy those spray in colours for her & we do those once in awhile. She loves it cuz she can change up colours & it comes out fully after 2-3 washes. She doesnt understand fully how damaging dying can be on your hair & idw her to regret ruining her hair when shes older. So for now this is a fun compromise
I did this for my daughter when she was in 4th grade. Huge waste of money. The color faded out after a few washes & I had it done professionally & paid $120. Don’t do it. Bleach is horrible for their hair, too. I bought some hot pink, single weft clip in extensions. Way easier, less expensive & less maintenance.
All my boys have had pink, purple, red and blue hair! Ages are 4,8 and 14… its only hair it will wash out and you can always cut it out!
My friend let her daughter color her hair any color she wanted… during the summer !!! Once school was about to start, it was almost gone.
I let my 7 and 8 year old. It’s just hair
I did my daughters hair when she was 3. Had to bleach it and we didn’t let it sit very long. It was so dang cute!!! I say if you’re okay with it then that’s all that matters!!! Nothing beats the smile you’ll see!!!
Take her, enjoy a day together, if she doesn’t like it, it can be fixed.
its a tad different bc its my son and he keeps his hair short and it grows fast, but ive dyed his hair 3x now first bleach and then blue and then let it grow and then again he wanted pink too. hes sitting at an orangey blonde rn but after another conditioning treatment im going back in with bleach to get it a good color for the pink to show better.
its all up to you, if its not able to be cut off after its very dead i wouldnt. if you do her ends or tips that would be perfect!
Hair will grow back/out…
At 7, I would probably encourage her to only get the ends done… if it’s done right, it shouldn’t damage her hair, but every hair responds to bleach so differently… if it were to damage it, she would still have healthy hair if she needed heaps cut off later…
Try fox hair dye… It works on Dark hair and it’s safe
Do the tips of her hair so if it’s damaged and gross you can just trim the ends off
It’s just hair!!! Let your kid expiment safely with self expression.
I done it twice for mine
If it’s allowed at school, go for it. let her learn from it. The colour of her hair will not change who she is. But please take her to a professional
I’ve done it. I’ve done just the tips once when she was 8 and this summer we did her bangs. She’s 9 now. My kiddo has dark brown hair. If you do bleach it at home, just keep an eye on it. Don’t use heat or anything like that. I didn’t let it sit but for maybe 20 minutes, just long enough to see some results. hope this helps!
Go for it! It’s hair and it grows back. A stylist will be great for a first timer and making sure her hair stays healthy
Use clip on hair in pink, my daughter does this for cheer
Do it! It’ll grow out and she’ll have such a great memory of the two of yall getting her hair dyed.
I just did my 4 year olds hair pink but he’s blonde. my older one will need to have bleach if he ever wants to have fun fashion colours. honestly, it’s just hair. my mom let me get red streaks when I was 9-10 and they had to bleach my hair, my hair was still healthy and fine
You can use hair dye to lift it since her hair is natural.
Or you can go the option of bead extensions. They’re super easy to install at home and can easily be changed. You can add colorful tinsel, feathers, etc., with those as well.
If you are comfortable with it, I’d let her do it. If it makes you nervous, you could take her to a salon. I just put red lowlights in my 8 year Olds hair and she loves it. Also to note, it will fade fast, even with professional and permanent hair color.
this is crazy, I’m 40 and still don’t want to put bleach in my hair …. But 6?
It’s only hair make memories with ur daughter x
Do her ends! Let it grow, cut it and do them again if she likes it!
My daughter has gotten her hair pink (under) since she was 4 lol .
My mom did a couple blonde streaks on me when I was like 8/9. Depends on the kid really. I had a coworker who’s son wanted blue in his hair and the kid was honor roll and everything, he let him do it. It’s hair. It’s up to you
This was my daughters hair when she was 7. The way I see it , it’s only hair , she loved it and that’s all that mattered to me.
Go for it! Though as a hairstylist myself, take her to a professional. I guarantee she’ll LOVE it. And again it’s just hair and we all need a little boost sometimes my oldest did purple at about that age and the joy on her face seeing it was worth more than words can describe
My daughter wanted pink hair for her 4th birthday, I just used hair dye spray, it really worked though and she’s got dark hair too! At 7 though, as long as it’s professionally done, I think it’ll probably be fine
I would do the ends then you can trim it off after the color fades!
Honestly, I would let my daughter! It’s a form of self expression and at that age they are still figuring out who they are! I say go for it especially since you are going to a professional!
Its just hair. Let her have it
We went to a stylist for my son. He got his tips done in February. They did have to bleach it as he got dark hair.
Splat makes a pink for dark hair, just be careful it stains everything. My sister and I did the blue and we looked like smurfs for about a week
It’s just hair. It’s a non issue for me.
my daughter (now 11) has had multiple different colors in her hair, all requiring bleach because she has very dark brown hair. we started around 6 or 7.
its only hair and it grows out soooo quickly. the confidence boost she gets is 100x worth it.
now that shes older, we just talk about it being a privledge. if she starts getting in trouble, i wont continue to pay for the fun colors. but i have a pretty darn good kid so…
