My baby cannot stand baby food and I am at a loss as to what I should be feeding her…she is 3 1/2 months old and the doctor siggested I start her but she gags every single time I give her a bite…
She’s not ready for solid food yet. Please stop. You can always give extra bottles/breast feeds if nutrition is the problem.
I feel like that’s to early! Some babys are weird about textures
I waited until 5+ months to give rice cereal. Once I knew he/she could handle food. I would increase portions and styles of food.
3 1/2 months seems very young. It’s usually not recommended until 6 months AND showing the signs of readiness.
So things like sitting up, head control, interest in food, pincer grip, putting things into their mouth.
This has to be a fake post because babies aren’t supposed to be trying baby foods until honestly 6 months of age your baby is 3 and 1/2 months and all that baby needs is either breast milk or formula!!! THAT’S IT!!! You’ve got to be kidding me switch your pediatrician like as of yesterday.
Should only be formula or breastfed
Thats way too early! She probably not ready yet.
Too soon. If it continues as she’s older it may be a sensory/texture thing/issue.
Yeah agree with everyone else way too young she should only be having formula or breast milk you need a new doctor
Shes way too fucking young that poor baby.
Get a new pediatrician
Baby needs to be minimum 6 months old with all signs of readiness. Pediatricians aren’t nutritionist.
All my 3 started at 4 months this was 20 yrs ago . They all grown up with no health issues.
She’s not ready yet then. I’ve never heard of feeding before 4 months and even them sometimes babies aren’t quite ready. For now leave her with just her milk and try again in a month or so.
Omg please talk to a different doctor, maybe start baby food back up at 6m old. 🫶🏻
This has to be someone trolling. No way in today’s day and age are people THIS ignorant. I refuse to believe this is serious. People have access to Facebook, but not Google? Nope. Troll. Has to be.
That’s too young ment to be 4 months pluss giving it younger than that can be super dangerous they can infact inhale there food wait till she’s 4 months have another try if still the same try at 5 or 6 months
You should be feeding her breastmilk or formula. Nothing more.
Then she isn’t ready. Try at 5 months and start with rice and make sure it’s liquidy.
Baby food shouldn’t be given to any child under the age of 6 months unless they can sit up unaided for the length of the meal.
Yes, too young for solid food yet. TIP: I had one baby who would NOT eat commercial baby food. So, I blended home-cooked food which he ate readily!
Your baby isn’t ready. 10 years ago we wouldn’t dream of starting a baby on solids until 4 months at the very earliest. Just keep feeding bf/ff and try again in another 2 weeks. If baby isn’t ready then, wait another 2 weeks. Baby food provides no nutritional value at this state and is just to help get them use to different tastes and textures.
U stressing coz a 3 month old isn’t eating… wowv, u need a new dr… 6-8 months wud be time to start they don’t need food at such a young age
Too young, try again in a few months. Might I suggest a different pediatrician? That can cause constipation issues if you aren’t careful.
Get a new doctor first!
Also she is too young like everyone is saying. Țhen between 4-6 months you start introducing food starting with a rice cereal mixed with formula or mom’s milk… keeping it on the thinner side to begin. Then fruits and veggies… which I sometimes mixed into the cereal. My baby wouldn’t eat food until he was 8 months old. He Judy wouldn’t have it. We put cereal in his formula. My older 2 ate fine. Started her at 4 months. He brother gave her a piece of pizza when she was 6 months old… and she ate it like a pro! Lol
My son was a big baby and my first nursing baby. He demanded more… and at two months we were feeding him really milked down rice cereal.
He his now 6’4" and built! Eating gif by 4 months.
So they are all different. Different readiness and needs.
But please get a knew doctor!!!
And make an appt ASAP…
You don’t help your child in any way by essentially torturing/choking/ gagging them.
All my 6 kids started solids at 2 months old they loved food and milk just wasnt enough for them not every kid will take to solid food some aren’t ready at all
She’s not ready. I would wait another at least month or two and then try again. Remember that ‘food before 1 is just for fun’. Right now she only needs breast milk or formal to sustain her. You’ll know when she’s ready. Don’t stress about it mama.
Umm you don’t feed them at that age. There’s a huge choking hazard and their belly isn’t ready for food. Highly irresponsible of you and the dr. A simple Google search would tell you not until 6 months.
Too soon. Try again at 5/6 months
Wait until she is ready. Not the Dr or you. Then just a taste not a feed.
Is it baby food from the shop??
I gave my baby what I ate, ground/mashed obviously.
He smacked it but would not eat store bought baby food.
Try rice cereal very thin not to thick I had 5 children do not stress the baby will eat In Good time and will not starve one of my baby’s never ate anything for 7 mths only breast milk and once she started she loved anything I gave her
That’s too young. Maybe suck on a rusk or something but not food. Why was you advised is baby always hungry?
She absolutely should not be eating baby food and she’s gagging bc she isn’t ready . Find a new pediatrician and stop feeding her baby food until she’s 6 months old
Omg!! That’s way too early!! That’s why she can’t tolerate it!
She’s too young for baby food that’s why.
4 months for my first 2 boys and 6 months for my last two girl.
She’s not ready. She’s way too young, it’s advised to start at 6 months old but also fine if they’re not ready then either as they get everything they need from formula/breast milk.
Too soon! Try again at 6 months and a new pediatrician!
She’s way too young
12 months - blw
She’s still a bit young. Try again at 5months
Try baby cereal like about 1/4 of a baby bowl of it
I wouldn’t worry too much ATM 3 1/2 mths maybe a little early for your little one. Children can be at different stages, not always the same. Breast feeding or formula does sustain the child till its ready for solids, unless the child is not settling, then it is trial & error on babies likes & dislikes with tiny introductions & food brand recommendations. Less stress helps bub stress less.
Maybe she’s not ready. Not all Dr’s are right at that. Earliest I’ve ever been able to start is 4 months but mostly I start at 6 months. Their main source of nutrition is their milk. No worries.
No wonder she can’t tolerate it. You’re not supposed to wean them until they’re at least 6 months.
I’d be getting a new doctor.
I’m sorry, I’d find a new doctor! That’s crazy early to start on foods. Don’t worry about holding off for a few months
Too soon. Baby is not ready as many great moms above stated. Please consider making your own from fresh veggies near 6 Mos of age. Jar stuff is laced with toxins, yes even organic ones.
4 months is the absolute earliest I’ve ever heard of it being safe to start food and that’s only if baby is showing interest in being ready…that is some very bold and scary advice from your doctor telling you to start so early. Your baby just doesn’t seem ready yet which is FINE. My advice is wait another 2 months or so and try again. Stick to your milk or formula feeding only for now.
start very small and with bland things. teeny amounts. start w once a day and work it up.
be sure congestion isn’t an issue that could agitate gag reflexes as she tries to learn to take bites of foods.
people saying this is too early I wholly disagree… the sooner you aid with your babies ability to eat real food the better.
one thing you’ll find about feeding babies is they’re always changing guidelines and rules, and after so long you really just have to ask yourself if your going to allow some Corp that’s on an ever turning wheel tell you how to feed your child or do the research and find what works for yours.
my babies were fed as soon as they could sit up, showed ready signs and even before that when they were alert they got tastes of multiple foods we were eating. exposure aids in preventing allergies later in life.
my babies grew up just fine and are all good eaters.
Your Dr is clearly crazy. Your child should only be taking breastmilk or formula (and no extra scoops either!) for at least another two months. Then try some millet or rice porridge, loosely mashed banana or avocado.
She may not be ready yet, definitely don’t give food until signs of readiness,
Also my 1st hated regular baby food,
Join some Baby Led Weaning groups and start doing some research on other options
You should be feeding breastmilk or formula milk. Way to young.
She is just not ready. Give her some time.
She’s to small for baby food honestly it’s best to wait til 6 months and start BLW
Absolutely not. That’s way too early even if she not showing signs I didn’t. Start till 4.5 mo ths still early but he was ready
What doctor do you go to? 6 months is when u should introduce baby food
I would say she’s not ready then. Being able to eat baby food and not aspirate would require baby being able to sit up on their own and have great head control. It scares me her Dr said it would be okay. I suggest a second opinion. 4 months is sometimes old enough, but it all depends on the baby. And if she’s gagging every single time, that can be dangerous. I’m not a Dr, but from the sounds of it, you should wait another month or 2 and try again.
Find a new doctor. Ours said 5 months at the earliest.
She ain’t ready mama’s, they ready to eat when they start getting teeth
I started my 2nd at 3month, I gave her purées, she started eating proper food around 5.5month. She used to ‘fit’ with baby milk and vomit a lot even with prescription milk, so I was given the go from HV & peadicatric. It’s advised to start actual food at 6m, I started my 16m old at 5m cos my girls kept feeding him their food, they felt ‘cruel’ eating in front of him
I do feel 3.5month is really early, she should be having purées if you’re feeding her, not sure why you’ve been advised to feed her so early. She needs milk, you’re just adding calories she doesn’t need.
Both my babies started at 3 months. She will let you know when she is ready! And the consistency is important…only use rice cereal to start and thin like her formula. Wouldn’t suggest actual baby food until she’s been through the rice and wheat and barley cereals
Why did the Dr suggest that? If it was reflux reasons try a thickener if baby is gagging then baby isn’t ready for solids. 3.5 months old is only what 14ish weeks? To me that’s very young to handle anything apart from milk
I started mine on cereal at 2 weeks. Baby food at one month. Not a lot. Just a few bites til she got use to it. I fed while I held her. She’s fine
4 months is the earliest from all of my research and Dr suggestions.
I’d say between 4-6 month range, and if your babe is closer to 6 months before interested there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Sometimes it takes them even longer than that to be truly interested. like others stated, follow babes ques they’ll let you know when they’re ready.
Ummmmm because she’s too young I have never heard of 3.5 month old eating food in my life. I think I started introducing somewhere in the 6 or 7th month.
No food! What the heck? If she is gagging that’s bc she’s not ready for solids. I started both kids at 4 months, my son didn’t do well so I stopped and waited another month and he was fine after that
She’s practically a fkn newborn are you fr
3 months old formula or breast milk only. I started mine on solids at 5-6 months. Egg yolk, avocado, real food not jarred processed food.
3 months is too soon she gags cuz she’s not ready, babies get teeth when there bodies are ready for anything besides milk.
Young infants have a gag reflex that is further forward in their mouths, to prevent choking in case something other than liquid accidentally gets in there. That’s one of the reasons we wait until they’re older to start solids (including purees). It seems her gag reflex is still not ready for baby food, and that’s normal for 3.5 months! Unless there are other reasons your Dr is recommending she eat anything other than milk, I wouldn’t be concerned at this point. Good luck mama, you’re doing a great job!
OMG nooooooo🤦🏼♀️ your baby should not be even eating any type of solids till about 6 months. The digestive system can’t handle it and not only that but babies are supposed to safely be able to sit up on their own before you give them food. That doctor is an absolute idiot😡.
Please Stop feeding her baby food if she doesn’t want it yet!
Follow your instincts…which are telling you that, since you asked here!!
You’re her best advocate!!
You can tell if she is ready…
ALL babies are different.
Maybe Some babies can handle it and want it at that age, apparently yours does not want it yet and isnt ready.
Follow your gut, your mamma’s intuition…you got this.
Trust yourself.
You got this!!
Please stop trying to give your baby foods for now! Just because a dr said to…
She’s not ready. That dr,needs to stop given moms this information as its horrible.Their tummies are not even ready for anything other then breast milk or formula.
Because LO isn’t ready for food. Find a new doctor ASAP.
Wayyy too early, you need a new pediatrician asap
Shes learning how to work her mouth muscles. 3.5 months is WAY TOO YOUNG FOR SOLIDS. Baby cant digest without proper trunk strength and that isnt there until ATLEAST 6 months. If that baby aspirates they can die. Please wait. Stick to formula.
Get a blender & blend what you eat.
At the very most u could try the baby cereal really watery
Try making your own out of veg . Or baby rice with her milk will get her used to the spoon
Some of my kids had no interest til one year. That’s way too early for solids
I’ve always heard “food before 1 is just for fun”
I wouldn’t force it!
My youngest never liked baby food and had bad reflux with it, she’s now 1 and is eating toddler foods.
Every baby is different.
i cannot imagine any dr advising this; it’s extremely dangerous for babys liver and kidneys to be eating at this age… if a dr really did advise this; please report them. this is so scary!!!
6 months. Their guts aren’t ready until 6 months. Idgaf if it’s 4 months on the bottle or what any of your old ass pediatricians have to say lol
Also- most of the kids that were started at 3/4 months These days have gut problems. It’s correlated. Not all, but yes- most.
During the first year of life your baby gets all the nutrition she needs from formula.
Get a new doctor. She’s way to young.
That’s way too early. The stomach doesn’t properly digest baby food until 6 months at the earliest and babies shouldn’t eat solids until they’re old enough to hold their head up/sit up on their own while eating. I personally don’t start until my kids are meeting those requirements and they indicate they’re interested as well. There’s no rush to start solids, as long as it’s introduced by 8–10 months so they’re familiar before they can no longer take bottles.
Very thinned out baby cereal is all a baby that small should be having . U put formula in the rice cereal and make it very thin til they get used to eating off a spoon
She’s not ready, please don’t continue to try. I would definitely get a new doctor because no credible pediatrician would have suggested that at 3 and a half months old.
If she’s not sitting up on her own yet she’s probably not ready.
You meed a new Dr. Your baby is not ready until 6 months 3 months is way to early. Stop giving your child baby food . And legit look for a new Dr. Food to early causes gut problems
most drs dont tell you to start baby food til 5-6 months. your baby definitely isnt ready especially if shes gaging and such. just wait longer.
Change drs no baby whatever their skill leaves should even touch solids before 4-5 months. She’s not ready for it.
I started my son on a little bit of rice cereal in his milk at that age. That filled him up a little more and helped with him learning textures before actual food.
3.5 months
where do the recommend stating this early?
6-7 months is the norm… as they are just learning how to master breast/bottle around 3 months
It sounds to me like she might be to early I would do cereals than. My daughter hated puréed food so we did only cereal. And then baby led weaning Because she would express to eat but only our food not the purées !! Hope this helps but also. Look at your baby cues she will let you know what’s good for her !! 🩷
That very young I would wait another month or two.
I would wait a month and try again. I tried with my son at 4 months and most of it ended up on him. He didn’t quite have the tongue control. I tried again at five months and he was eating like a champ!
You know you baby best, but that would be my suggestion.
She’s not ready way too early
Baby is not ready. I find it odd ped is telling you to start them at this young age. That’s alarming, imo.
