I guess I would look at it this way. What advice would you give your children if they were in your place? Children learn from those closest to them what a relationship should look like. If you wouldn’t want them to stay in the relationship you shouldn’t either.

The kids will be fine but he needs to go. He doesn’t love u if he did that, it’s sad but it’s true and u can heal and put your energy into your kids instead of that pos. He’s most likely telling u he loves u to manipulate u so u keep him in your life. If he did that once, he will do it again. Run girl, run!!!
