My daughter coughs a lot at night time: Advice?

Elevate her head, put a thick layer of vicks vapor rub on her feet and cover with socks. If shes old enough, keep ice water close to her to drink as needed. Maybe try a humidifier in her room.

Sounds like post nasal drip and sinus or allergy drainage. Try a benadryl at bedtime with her head elevated.

What she coughs sit her up without waking her up.

Humidifiers works great, elevated her head.

Vicks on the bottom of her feet…peppermint vape in her room along with a humidifier

Maybe something in her room. The paint on the walls, the carpet. Do you use something to clean the floor? Is it worse just after you clean? Maybe the washing detergent? Or dryer sheet? I’d have her tested for allergies

Put some moisture in the air

Check your house for mold

If she’s coughing but she not sick, she might have a dry throat. Have her drink water before bed, keep water next to the bed for during the night, and try a humidifier. Maybe the air in her room is too dry.

I didnt see how old she was. But when I was in elementary school, this happened to me personally. But it could be acid reflux. With her laying down the acid could be coming up and messing with her throat, which could cause coughing. The doctors never could figure out what was wrong until i was in college.

Do you have a humidifier? That helped mine tremendously.

Buy a cold mist humidifier, not a hot mist… the hot mist mixed with the warm air form the heater will keep them dried up in their nose… we did this for our son cause he unfortunately got my nose and keeps getting a little sinus cold like I do,so our peds dr told us to buy a cool mist humidifier and we can definitely tell the difference from when we do and dont use it depending on the weather

I got a nebulizer at first but it sounds like an air compressor and would wake my son up soooo got an inhaler and works awesome

5)8: stuff is awesome!
So is bee keeper blend bee propolipolis spray.

Also pineapple juice and real fruit helps. Warm pineapple juice.

And wet sock treatment is amazing

You need a new Dr. Its either post nasal drip, witch i would try some nasonex, or a type of asthma. Either way find a new Dr.

Couldn’t be allergies and asthma?

When my kids asthma gets bad or allergies bother them they cough non stop. It could be dust or just allergies that trigger it. Even my asthma is worse at night sometimes

Is there any plants in her room? I had a bad reaction to a plant in my room, it caused a sinus drip which caused a cough for a few months until I figured the plant was causing this.

Air purifier and a humidifier might help

A level tsp of honey will help soothe the cough!

Could be acid reflex if she doesn’t have asthma. It happens to me but I have both so I don’t know which one causes it, but I put 2 inch blocks under the head of bed to raise my head over my heart and more pillows

I suggest finding an ear, nose, and throat Dr and being teasted for allergies. And finding a new pediatrician, who finds answers.

I coughed like that all night after 3 dr i went to allergy Dr i have severe dust and mold allergies

Did the doctor test her for allergies?

That is most likely asthma. My daughter does the same thing. She has a rescue inhaler, and as soon as she uses it, the coughing stops. Try cutting out dairy, and see if the Dr. will prescribe an inhaler for the coughing fits.

And get them to do a peak flow test!

Sounds like my oldest daughter. She was finally diagnosed with asthma. It took her having a major asthma attack and being admitted into childrens hospital for it to be figured out. Keep pushing your dr to find out what’s going on.

Could be allergies. But should try cutting a potato in half and placing a slice on the bottom of each of her feet, placing socks over to hold in place. Old remedy but Worth a try at least

My friends son use to cough all the time without being sick, turns out he has asthma

That is a number one sign of asthma. My oldest has asthma, but i never noticed her cough being worse at night. My son can be fine all day and he coughs himself into a vomiting fit at night. I took him to the doctor after 2 nights of him doing this and the dr listened to him and told me that he could send him for official asthma testing, but he could hear it. We got a nebulizer with two separate meds. One he takes every 6 hours and the other every 4. It made a world of difference until he came down with flu last week. He was almost over it when he suddenly started having coughing fits at night to the point of vomiting. He also has a severe sinus infection which only makes things worse.

Maybe take her to a specialist just to be on the safe side…God bless you both and keep her well.

Try a cool mist humidifier !!

Same thing with my daughter. She was told many times she had pneumonia before being diagnosed with asthma

Try a new mattress for her bed and no carpets in room and a clean air filter it worked great for my daughter

My daughter has the same, not every night but when it’s bad it’s consistent. The Dr said it’s probably a nasal drip and gave us a nasal spray to use of a night time and after 4 days it eased hugely but we needed to use it every night for 2 weeks and whenever we feel she needs it of a night after that.

Prop her up. Could be post nasal drip/allergies.

Find an allergen dr. My son has always had asthma since he was born, but the dr finally gave him allergy meds & they help the cough

Def sounds like my daughter - asthma. Nebulizer. Cool mist humidifier. Singulair if have to… or childrens loradidine.

Of course thats after u have put plastic on all mattresses, pillow cases, good vaccuum, wash curtains, dust ceiling fan, air purifier helps, remove allll dust basically.

Euky bear rub or Vick’s on the feet with socks on

And sit in the steamy bathroom with the shower running before bed to open up her lungs

It’s something that’s going around. I had a stupid cough for a month and a half that my doctor said was post nasal drip. My daughter had the same cough for 3 weeks with the same diagnosis.

Could be reflux. I coughed for over a year before they figured out it was reflux.

I had this problem. It’s not every kids problem but mine would cough so much with no cold or anything. We went to doc and got puffers, they did not work. Keep going for other doctors opinions because I was recommended a daily allergy stuff like clariton. Safe to take daily. At least 6 months. My 6 year old has not had this problem again so far, it’s been a year!!!

My daughter has done this off and on for a year or 2 she is almost 4, every time we go in nothing works for the things they tell us to do. I decided to change up different things. I started giving her lactose free milk, she hasn’t coughed in months since we switched to that

My daughter was put on Singular at bedtime for this kind of cough. Worked fabulous!

I have this issue myself as an asthmatic. I run an air purifier year round and a humidifier during the dryer months. I also get high grade furnace filters and change them frequently. We also had a vents and duct work blown out and cleaned which helped dramatically, as the previoys owners of our home were definitely smokers.

Use children’s Vick’s or the other rub to help and a warm wash cloth

My daughter did this to. check her pillows she used to go to bed with wet hair it messed up her pillow got her new one it stopped

Humidifier at night helps a lot or something that’ll help put a little moisture in your place

I used to do this and my eleven year old does too. I just sleep with a bottle of water nearby so does she. It’s likely a dry tickle in the throat if he/she isn’t sick.

Allergy medicine at night! my son has asthma and takes meds in the morning and night but me and my daughter have found that taking allergy medicine at night helps a ton and we don’t have asthma

Zarbees chest rub on the feet cover with socks. A little on the chest and back as well. And use a cool mist humidifier in her room

My son did that exact thing. Said he had croup. Gave him meds & inhaler. Doing MUCH better now.

Early ashma or maybe too dry in her room

Mold
Airborne

Post nasal drip
Allergy pill helps
An allergy in general

Inflammation gives flemies…so an intolerance can cause extra flem post nasal drip…coughing spells

Big question how old is she it’s very dangerous giving kids any kind of cough suppressant and even worse at night a child can have Failed breathing at any age !! Look it up be very careful with cough suppressant they can cause aspiration while sleeping leading to well not waking up :sob:be careful

Allergies. Give her allergy medicine. I’m the exact same way

Did they check for asthma?

My daughter coughed mainly at night also and had nose bleeds often. Seems the air in my house was dry. We ended up buying a humidifier

My daughter did the same, she would cough during the day but it would be so much worse at bedtime, she was given an inhaler and diognosed with asthma, she’s been fine with the inhaler and no coughing since shes started using it x

Ventilate room in the day, could be damp air

My son did this he’s allergic to dust mites!

Vicks vapor on the soles of her feet and put sock on

Rub Vicks vapour rub on the button of her feet. Soak the bottoms in it. Then put her feet in her sleeper or socks…

My daughter got a cough EVERY SINGLE WINTER for years😳 I would take her in, they would even see it themselves but we never got a diagnosis that fit and/or a treatment that worked🙄 They said after a while it was allergies. They gave her claritin and flonase. It never, ever like took it away though. We quit smoking 2 years ago. Now I never did smoke in the house or in the car or anything but it does seem like we quit and the last 2 winters she hasn’t gotten that cough. Now we still catch every other virus that goes around but the cough, nowhere to be found🤷‍♀️

That’s how my asthma presents.

Might sound gross but maybe pin worms

We got a Vicks humidifier with a slot for vapors like Vicks vapor rub but instead it puts that smell in the air my son hasn’t coughed or had a stuffy nose for awhile. We don’t use it every night but your gotta clean every 2-3 days

I did the same thing for a long time until I went to a pulmonologist and diagnosed it as allerge induced asthma

Could be too dry in the room. Get a humidifier. Could be possible allergies. During the day…open her window. Let fresh air in on days where it’s not freezing (like today for example). Maybe asthma…get a second opinion, different doctor. Ask for specific things to be checked. Vicks on the feet, covered with cotton socks is amazing tonstop coughing too.

My daughter just got through 6 nose bleeds in a week. We bought a humidifier, no more bleeds.

And raise the end of her mattress up a bit!

I’ve been dealing with this for six years, Finally we’ve seen about four doctors and a specialist who just diagnosed my daughter with seasonal asthma. She’s on two inhalers now and an allergy med at night 1/2hr before bed. We are on day six of allergy meds and inhalers and have seen a great difference!

OMG all these comments telling her what to do!!! NO go to a Dr and get a true medical evaluation, that’s the only safe thing to do. And while it does sound like asthma, (shortness of breath is not the only symptom of asthma, coughing is too, and I didn’t realize it until the Dr told me), it’s best and safest medically to get it verified by a Dr.

Have her checked by an allergist or ENT dr. I have this same problem because i have very poor sinus drainage. Which means when I lay down? My sinuses drain super thick mucous into my throat causing coughing fits. Try increasing water intake… That thins the mucous. Otherwise, have her checked by an allergist and ENT dr. They’ll have recommendations. My best solution involves surgery. 🤦

Allergies maybe, had my daughter on Flonase for almost a year. But finally got her off of it and we still use a cool mist humidifier all winter. That helps a lot.

Mattress, mold, stuffed animals or filler in them . See if you put her in a dif location for a few night if it changes.

Might help. To dry in the winter

See a asthma/allergist, ENT specialist or pulmonologist, coughing is not normal

I get this often. Try putting a little Vaseline under and around the base of her nose. It will moisten the air she breathes in. It helps me.

My son has allergies that cause him to cough and sneeze at night, the Dr put him in Allegra and it has done the trick.

Humidifier. Try using a wet wash cloth on the neck. Wring it out good. Vicks too.

Dust in the air inside. Rawleges has a spray. For. Asma like. Systoms

Put a little Vick’s on her at night

If she already have a cold the night is dap and it makes u cof more

My kid!
Humidifier, wedge under matress to elevate. Vicks on feet.

Try not letting her eat anything within two hours of going to bed… The food could be coming back up her throat while she sleeps and making her cough/choke. Just an idea to try.

She very likely has night time asthma and it’s not easy to get asthma diagnosed by a regular pcp. They just don’t know what to listen to. I strongly suggest that you have your daughter looked at by an asthma specialist or a Pulmonology specialist. They definitely will help you whereas you only have a 50/50 chance of a regular family doctor picking up the strides that is always there with asthma inflammation.

I have lived with asthma my whole entire life and have had multiple run ins to emergency and hospital stays because of it. Plus I raised two severely asthmatic children and care for my husband who has severe asthma and Allergies. I may not be a doctor, but I’m familiar with asthma in a personal way and I think your daughter has Classic signs of night asthma.

Could be allergies. Especially if only at night. I had the same problem with my daughter took 2 years for them to finally say she had allegies.

When am getting over a cold (after it’s gone) my throat gets like a cramp in it. It makes me cough so much I gag. Last time this happened I went to an ENT they couldn’t find anything wrong either. It always happens after I get a cold. I hope she feels better soon!

Does she sleep with the heater on?I know when I was little,I did the same thing, close off the vent to her room.I can’t sleep with the vent open.

Put Vicks on the bottom of the feet and put socks on

Keep cool. Dress lightly. No heavy blankets.

Also could be acid reflux/gerd. Try a wedge pillow if old enough or see about an acid reducer. Or try tums.
