My daughter coughs a lot at night time: Advice?

Try a vaporizer in her room. Maybe the air is too dry

Cool mist humidifier and make sure her room is 67 degrees. Lots of blankets but cool air to breathe. I have the same problem.

Get a second opinion.
Is it too hot in the house? Could be the dry heat mixed with dust or maybe mold.

Pickles or pickle juice

Look over her room good & see if there’s any mold in the room.

Im the same way. Allergies and asthma. However, was never this bad until recently. After 3 specialist, found I have fluid around my heart from a heart issue. Keep persisting until you have answers!

Cool hair humidifier. Vicks will help with congestion but if she isnt congested she may just need more moisture in the air… my youngest is the same and also suffers from bloody noses. Cool moist air has seemed to help.

Could be too dry in house. Could have allergies.

Hepa air purifier might help. Solved my issues

I used to do that, my aunt taught me to try and hold my breath to break the cycle. Not till I turned blue, just gently then start breathing though my nose. You question reminded me, I still do it if I have a coughing fit

I would take her to an ENT.

Get a cool mist humidifier and fill with distilled water and run it at night might help but if you are still concerned get a second opinion.

diffuse essential oils for breathing and clean air

Get a humidifier for her at night and put peppermint essential oil in it. I know that sounds crazy, but it really does help.

A humidifier may resolve coughs

Is she sweaty in her sleep? If so take socks off at night. Is she hyper before bed? Chill 30 minutes before. Possible allergies. Get a children’s flonase. Give it a day to kick in. Of it fails get a second opinion. U might after alll else fails-if it does— then go to ER At night when she coughs so they can see.

maybe a second opinion? allergy tests? Not enough moisture in the house depending on what your heating system is. room to hot or cold? Keep talking to Dr or find another one!

My sons does the same thing at night and the 4 doctors told me the same thing. He has asthma and something trickers it at night. He’s on buduflam and asthavent and some allergix. And it really helps to clear that cough at night

Humidifier or maybe has acid reflux use 2 pillows. Otherwise get a second opinion.

Vicks on her chest and between her shoulders on back plus on bottom of both feet with socks on

I would take her to an ENT if the pediatrician insists she’s ok. I know I’m an adult and we are speaking about a child, but like had chronic post nasal drip bc of a sinus infection that was only diagnosed by the ENT with a scope. I understand this is a child and this seems over the top. I share bc I prefer to have my son checked if something’s recurring and if I’m not getting a diagnosis and have him treated. Good luck.

Get a humidifier my son does that sometimes at night

Maybe put a humidifier in the house or her room?

Acid reflux issues can cause coughing at night too.

Elevate her mattress under her head. How’s her diet? I had a lot of immune responses when having sugar, flour and wheat products. Had a lot of inflammation in my body. Got my diet under control and the spasm coughing (mainly at night) when away.

Ntn wrong, something wrong, get a humifidier, air out the house, change wash soap, jmstart somewhere, disinfect her room, top to bottom

Prob just too warm. Just dress her light and a light blanket, and put a bowl of water next to her vent if on the floor to add moisture to her room

Possibly allergies… my son takes loratadine and singulair…try vicks on the feet it helps work wonders for a cough.

She’ll have that cough up to 5 weeks. Some strange sickness has been going around. My oldest did that and her 5 weeks are finally up and she has stopped. My youngest got it too and he’s got roughly a week left. There’s really nothing the doctors can do. You just gotta wait it out. You can get natural cough medicine at the store that can help sooth it but it’s not gonna go away. Some kids have had their cough last for a couple months. So prepare yourself and keep a bucket at bedside.

Mine did that too as a toddler.
Dr prescribed nasonex to use at night and that totally fixed it.
She used to cough til she threw up.

Demand a sleep study. I did and turns out my 4 yr old son had sleep apnea worse than an old man with full blown copd. He stopped breathing 39 times per hour. He went for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy and it stopped immediately.

a bowl of cold water under the radiator makes the room not as dry air if that makes sense.i didnt think would work but it did

My daughter was like that when young. Turned out she had asthma. Dr prescribed Singulair and it greatly helped! Best of luck to you in figuring out the cause and solution!

Humidifier and keep her room cool

Maybe she has a lot of drainage going down her throat and it’s making her cough. As an adult when I get a lot of drainage and continually cough myself awake at I go out and sleep in in the recliner because lets me get a good night of sleep and also lets the drainage go down without having coughing spasms.

Threes is something . This is the season for coughs , sneezing . She coughs a lot like I do is her immune system is fighting hard on her behalf. You can help her immune by civjng her vitamin C, plenty of fluids and sleep. Keep her wrap til she recovers. She may have a touch of the fly in her lungs and the body automatically coughs to clear the lungs and the throat , tea and cut c for children. And some fluid with a sleeping aid so she can sleep without coughs. Any more questions . Google md online . She will recover . The weather is lingering from cold and warm and such so the human body struggles to adjust. Monitor her temperature and her appetite . Most time she may not have an appetite to eat. God bless.

Sounds like dry forced air could be causing it. Check furnace filter. And Maybe a humidifier?

Change her pillow…maybe thats her allergy

Humidifier, wash all her bed sheets n pillow cases, and change your furnace filter

Take her to an asthma specialist. Sounds like asthma. Most regular Drs can miss the diagnosis.

Could be allergies. Mine did same. Started on singular and all gone!!

My medicine for a cough slice thinly half onion pour honey on it let sit approx 6 hours till it liquifies remove onions and have spoonfuls of this.

Allergy testing including indoor allergens, if clear consider post nasal drip.

I cough at night especially when my mouth is dry. Let her drink more water. And yes, a bowl of water nearby or a humidifier helps give some moisture to air when your heater is on. Sleep with vicks rubbed on my feet especially on the soles of my feet then wearing socks through the night helps. If she isn’t ticklish. You may massage the sole of her feet. Massages with vicks vapor rub on feet and then socks on. That really is relief … (makes me sleep fast without coughing). And because allergies just make sure her bed and pillows are washed regularly. I hope all these will help your daughter.

Raise the head of her bed a few inches

Deep clean her room especially if there’s carpet

Laying down can cause coughing to occur. Try elevating the whole bed with her head at least 6" above her feet.

Turn off the heater in her room. My oldest is the same, especially in the cold months when we have the heating on more. We have the radiators off in his room and it helps a lot… Worth a try anyway!

Allergy’s robitussin night time…it has and antihistamine in it…

Try diffusing eucalyptus oil in her room helps her breathing

Post-nasal drip it sounds like. Propping her up with an extra pillow may help. Pineapple juice before bed could possibly help. It has bromelain in it and it’s the most powerful cough suppressant there is. Without nasty other stuff in it anyhow.

Allergy dr or gastronoigist (stomach dr) acid reflux makes u cough at night time. Even to the point or gagging and puking

She might have the beginnings of asthma. Put your ear on her back to listen for any even slight wheezing.

I developed asthma in my 40’s and my doctor told me that a choking cough in the night is usually an asthmatic symptom. So now when I cough at night I use my inhaler and go back to sleep much more quickly.

Is there Mould or is she Alergic to somthing in her room

My ex’s son a few years ago was going through a weird cough at night… he would cough hard in his sleep and would still asleep… I didn’t like cough it sounded like it would hurt his lungs. I kept insisting to get this boy checked, I had a strong feeling it was something bad with his lungs, and was afraid that he might even stop breathing. (This cough was worse during the winter time) Poor thing… anyways long story short. After a year, his ex wife decided to take her son to get checked .and he was diagnosed with asthma…

Nothings wrong?? No go to a diff doc. A humidifier isnt a long term solution. But try allergy meds but my son did this when he wasnt breathing right and had sleep apnea at age 3. Dies she snore or seem tired alm the time?? Have her tonsils and adnoids checked.

Could be blind reflux. Where stomach contents leaks up the throat. Or its might be post nasal drip that irritates the back of the throat. Either way take her back to the dr and video her sleeping and coughing so he can see it . Ask for a referral to ears , nose and throat specialist. Stand your ground , kids dont cough for nothing.

Sounds like my daughter. A pulmonologist helped her tremendously. Was asthma brought on by allergies. She’d be fine all day, but as soon as she laid down and fell asleep… Non stop coughing.

Keep it cooler in her room at night even a small personal fan will help. My daughter started out just randomly throwing up. Finally found out she had allergies and still had issues when she’d over heat or get to cold. Then she was Diagnosed with asthma. Meds and a cooler room at night helped her greatly

My daughter did the same when she was small fir a long time until I switched doctor and they prescribed an albuterol inhaled all she had to do is take one puff before bed and problem solved.

Take her to an allergist… she probably has a nasal drip causing the cough… my son would cough and sometimes vomit. He was diagnosed with severe seasonal allergies… clariten in the am and zyrtec before bed… hes fine now.

Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of her feet then put socks on

My girl used to do this turned out to be rhinitis fluid from her sinus leaking into her throat. Had her tonsils and adenoids out and it stopped

My son coughed at night for more than a year… as a last resort I switched out his old blanket (heavy, warm, thick blankets that are in every Mexican household) for a 100% cotton quilt. His nights have been cough-free ever since then.

Omg… my son had the same problem… after continuous antibiotics and no result took him to an ENT. He has enlarged adenoid.

Got the exact same problem with my 20month old baby. Dr don’t give anything I must buy own cough meds but non of them helps.

What about acid reflux? Maybe prop her up a bit?

Allergies, maybe. Try an air purifier in her room. I have the same problem at night also. Runny nose, eyes constantly running tears. Dust, trees, windy, certain smells are very irritating.

Theives essential oil in a diffuser. My son does the same from time to time and it always break it up

My son did that for awhile when he was younger, to the point where he would start throwing up. I took dairy out of his food. Then he completely stopped. Idk if he was allergic to milk or what but he’s fine with dairy products now.

Get tested for allergens.

This happened to my daughter as well. It ended up being mold. Check her room carefully.

I have to blast a fan in my face or I do this. Maybe see about asthma

My doctor told me the same w my 3 year old

Check with an ear nose and throat doc. My son did the coughing till he got sick occasionally choking on his food. ENT took one look and took his tonsils and adenoids out and it was problem solved overnight.

Before giving this child anymore home remedies, I would take the advice of the post (video record) and return to the Dr. Its YOUR child; if you arent satisfied with the Dr’s diagnosis, continue seeking until you find answers…or a new Dr🤔. My sons pediatrician misdiagnosis a fractured clavicle; I had returned to the Dr multiple times because my poor baby was on so much pain. Dr said it was a sprain and to make sure my son used his arm. It wasnt until, while giving him a bath that I noticed a lump on his clavicle. Grrrrr🤬. Keep searching👍

Sounds like allergies. Keep the room moist.

Put a couple humidifiers throughout the house, this helped my little ones… they also have ones u can put essential oils in…eucalyptus is very much like vicks

Take her to another doctor. A different pediatrician or an allergist if you don’t need a referral for your insurance. If it’s asthma the allergist will know and will send her to a pulmonary specialist.

I had it two weeks .i did hot teas .git from food lion .to sip on matchagreen tea asian pear .and i did vicks dayquil tablets liquid good. Lots of lifesavers cough drops chicken soup an rest .vicks chest rub can help then bundle up an rest stay warm

Could be an allergy, I would see a doctor.

I have a colleague that coughs a lot … hers is asthma-induced. If it’s been going on for a while, get that checked.

It could be mucus running down back of throat…
Prop her up a little…make sure from shoulders down not neck…
Maybe see ear, nose, throat Dr…

My daughter did this, ended up diagnosed with asthma
