My daughter feels her privacy was violated at school

Yes I realize it’s a very uncomfortable situation all I can think of though is that teacher felt responsible for the student and panicked…I know not a good excuse but maybe the question should be how could this have been handled better for BOTH the student and teacher

Lots of factors. How old is your daughter? What was the teacher looking for this other student for? What was your dtr doing (bcuz despite all these dummies defending her silence, she had no excuse to not speak up and say she wasn’t so and so, depending on her age)?

I’d be pissed. The only thing I can think of is the teacher thought it was the kid who she was looking for. Your daughter may not vape but how does the teacher know it’s her without anyone saying anything. I would’ve been the kid vaping in the bathroom not saying a word. I’d definitely get it sorted out but I’d also be realistic with the child. My kids know people look through the cracks in public. It’s why I’m always on one side of the door. While explaining why I do that I also explained how I’m not always going to be there.

NOPE. not okay. Man, woman, kid … not okay.

That’s totally wrong, the teacher should of waited till she left the restroom.
It’s not just males that are a possible danger towards our girls just like it’s not just females who are towards our boys. I’d report it to the school and higher. Good luck x

Let’s not forget that Teachers are responsible for your children 100% (their classroom students)the entire school day! If she is missing it’s the teacher’s responsibility to find the child. DO NOT BLAME the teacher she was right to look in or around or upside down to make sure your child was safe! Because trust me kids commit suicide and are bullied and beaten in bathroom stalls. Thank God that wasn’t the case but It could be so much worse than a peek in to make sure she’s ok.

Everyone saying the kid should have just answered, she was probably embarrassed. Stop blaming the kid here :unamused:

Absolutely inappropriate of the teacher

I would definitely make a formal complaint. Kids should not be scared to go to the bathroom in the event the teacher is searching for another student and is going to violate their privacy. The teacher in question easily could have waited until the student came out of the stall.

Lets put this into different light… What if it was a student peering thru the crack at them? The student would have been marched to the principles office and the minor would have been in trouble an the teacher would go on bout how uncomfortable they were? So why would it be different with this scenario

Not okay! She should have never looked in the crack . Especially her knowing someone was in there . She could have called a name out or waited until the person left the stall . I would definitely be up at that school

I would definitely speak up about it. I don’t think the teacher meant to make her feel that way and was not thinking thoroughly about it.
I think this would be a great chance to teach your daughter how to properly handle a situation where something like this happens. She will experience a violation of her privacy in the future as well, but you can teach her now. Give her the tools to handle an incident like this.

“Susie Q” maybe a perfect angel but many are not. If a teacher was asked to check the restroom that’s what she has to do. Your kid may not be a trouble maker but vaping, drinking, drugs, and $ex happens in school bathrooms as it is the only place cameras can’t be. It may have been awkward but I’d tell my daughter no biggie strangers do the same thing looking for an empty stall.

If the teacher called her name before peeping she should have answered. It’s good she was looking for the child. It would have been much worse than peeping for her if she had been lost or someone took her from the school. Just my opinion

It’s creepy and I would file a complaint. That teacher needs to learn that is inappropriate.

You aren’t wrong for feeling the way you feel, and Suzie Q isn’t either. That’s an invasion and should never happen!

Nope. Doesn’t matter what the MINOR is doing. They’re behind a closed and locked door. Keep your eyes to yourself. Only time this would be anywhere close to acceptable, is if the minor was in danger. Women can be put on the sex offenders list too…

I’d be having an issue with an adult thinking it’s cool to peep into stalls on anyone, especially minors. Just because they’re “looking for someone” doesn’t make it okay.
Would you want me, a grown woman, peeking into a bathroom stall if you were in it just because I was looking for someone? No.

The teacher is responsible for your kid safety! If she or he had to peep on your children in the bathroom because of no response, is a correct action to check on the kid welfare! Privacy was not violated. Thanks the teacher who is worrying to make sure ur kid is safe! We have to stop to be Karen so often. Got be aware of surrounding but without craziness

Yeah not okay, but why didn’t she answer so the teacher wouldn’t have had to do that?

Both are in the wrong answer when someone is calling you basic human courtesy… as for the teacher basic human courtesy to not peek though the stalls if she noticed a person she could’ve just waited

Definitely inappropriate!

Both are wrong but the teacher could have waited till the child came out on the bathroom. My little girl will not talk to me when she is in the bathroom and she is four with adhd. If she is talking to me she will not do her business on the toilet. Some kids have to focus on what he/she is doing. A child should not be penalized for using the bathroom!

Lmao…what or who was the child hiding from?…I also ran to a bathroom stall when trying to hide. Figured that privacy was my protection. Smh…sounds like momma bear running to the “rescue” when in reality momma bear needs to find out what the child was hiding from? Smh

I don’t know… it seems to me that the teacher called out a name AND, probably, knocked too, before peaking in… believing, at that point, something wasn’t right. If the door is locked, and no one answers… what if the child was in need of help… otherwise, why wouldn’t she respond in some way?

My opinion is the child is not in the wrong. if no one responded to the name the teacher had called and she knew there were children in other stahls then she should knock and ask whose in there. If she doesn’t believe and thinks it’s the child she’s looking for then wait for her to come out. She has no right to look in through the door. If the teacher knocked on her stahl door and she didn’t answer then the child is wrong for not answering but at that point the teacher should have waited for her to come out. At no time and in no way is the teacher right for looking in the stahl.

Ummm…if kid would have answered then kid wouldn’t have been peeked in on. Jesus. Taking things to the extreme. It is important for teachers to know what is going on in bathrooms…just in case there may be a medical emergency. Teach your kid to respond behind a closed door and say she is ok so teacher can go about her business. If your kid was slumped over having a seizure on a toilet, then you wouldnt really care if teacher saw kid on the toilet. Just that teacher was able to help your kid not choke and die. Teacher was also looking for a missing kid and probably freaking out. Was the other kid found? Do you care?

Just curious as to why you kid didn’t answer the teacher initially. All of this would of been avoided. And that’s what I would of said to my daughter if she was in this situation.

You don’t need to look in. She wasn’t calling this girls name so why would she answer. This teacher overstepped.

A lot of you saying “why didn’t your child just answer the teacher” need to re-read this post. The teacher was calling out another child’s name, not hers. From the post it very clearly states that only after she peeped in to the stall like a creep did she say “Susie Q is that you”; which is NOT the child that she was originally looking for.

Vaping is crazy with the kids right now but u best believe someone does that to my kid and they be getting an ass whooping of a lifetime my daughter old principal illegally searched a female student he made the female student pull her pants open and he looked down them same with her shirt and the school covered it up 2 days later he resigned and went to another school this crap is getting out of hand with students not having privacy

A 13 year old girl just passed away at a nearby school due to a seizure… she was in the bathroom for a while before she was checked on… I have mixed feelings on this, it should have been a female teacher for sure, but with a child not answering I can understand where a teacher would be concerned

Bathroom is for private activities. No one. Including teachers can peep in there. I’d go to the principal asap. If it was my kid I’d have already done it.

She probably sensed something was wrong. Be glad she did.

Was the child they where looking for special needs?. Even through it wasn’t your child’s name at first they where calling out, she could of said no one in here but me. So no it wouldn’t concern me.

The teacher went a little overboard in peeping into the stall and might have called out the name of the student she was looking for. Intrusive but not a matter to bring up with anyone but the teacher unless it happens again. I feel for all teachers in this age of allowing children to make the rules.

Teacher better hope I don’t catch her ass outside after work…just saying

NO ONE should be peeping in a bathroom stall. So wrong!!!

I would be soo upset and your daughter has a very good right to her feelings. The teacher should’ve asked if anyone was in there not specifically for a certain person and should’ve checked if the doors were looked before looking though.

teachers arent usually allowed into the students bathroom. especially of the opposite sex and especially not peeping into closed doors.

ABSOLUTELY NO WAY SHOULD ANYBODY PEEK IN ANOTHERS STALL! For one it’s just nasty and to it’s a privy place where none should have to worry about the ignorance of others!

Wasn’t necessary to peek in the stall. Just call out the students name your searching for. And wait for a response…

Not cool but not wild. If she would of stopped and stared then that’s wrong. But the child could of also said something when the lady asked who it was before the peep.

Completely inappropriate! Not okay at all

They called out a students name, they didn’t respond, she didn’t respond. There could be an immediate threat or a health issue this teacher was trying to take care of. I believe that the teacher wasn’t doing something to peek at your kid but trying to deal with a situation that was happening not involving her.

Hell yes I’d be upset. That would be the last kid she ever peeped in on.
