My daughter has a cold in both eyes: How can I help?

My 2-year-old has a cold in both eyes she is getting the nasty gunk in both of them they aren’t pink, so I don’t think it is pink eye, but it was swollen last night, and today it has all that nasty stuff on her eyes any tips or anything on what I can do to help? It says the drops the Drs give you will make it last longer.

It’s probably pink eye. You can use distilled water and cotton balls. Wet the ball and wipe from the inside of eye (nose side) out. Only wipe once per cotton ball and throw away.

Uh take her to the doctor

An oral decongestant and rinse with regular saline

Sounds like conjunctivitis

It’s pinkeye most likely. I just had it myself.

Could still be conjunctivitis or a sinus infection take her to the Dr

I would take her to the Dr. It probably is pink eye. Just because it’s called pink eye doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be pink. If they are swollen and especially if they have lots of gunk, most likely it’s pink eye.

Are you sure they aren’t just clogged tear ducts?

Me personally… I put breastmilk in their eyes to help with infection.

You don’t get a cold in your eyes… it’s most likely pink eye, take her to the doctor and use the eye drops they prescribe.

Could be many things. I would take her to an ophthalmologist to be properly diagnosed and given proper treatment options.

Take her to a doctor

Maybe check with your doctor…

Steak on eye helps. It did for me

My daughter just got over this. It wasnt pink eye. It was just a virus and she was draining from her eyes. Warm wash cloth to wipe them clean

U can try chloromex ophthalmic ointment, I use it on myself, as well on my kids for cold in the eye

Pink eye our 2 yr old had it 2x. Recently

My daughter had that and it was NOT pink eye. It was a head cold. Her pediatrician had me do steam showers to loosen it ( shes 3 and she just played by the sink while shower was running. ). Humidifier at night and warm rag to wipe her eyes. It lasted 2 days and cleared up

Warm washrag, try to keep it on for a few minutes. Will help clean up also. If her eyes are red or pink you should take her to the dr.

No you should take her, it could be and eyelash or something, just because her eye isn’t pink from pink eye doesn’t mean it couldn’t end being serious

Go to the dr but in the meantime cooled, boiled salt water. Wipe eye with cotton wool soaked in the solution but only once then dispose and repeat til gunk clear.

Warm wash clothes, and see about some cold meds

My 2 year old had this recently and it wasn’t pink eye. We all had a virus and had to just wait it out. Humidifier for congestion, baby vicks, and lots of rest.

gently wash them with soft cloth and warm saline water,NO it will not burn.did this with all my children

My whole family has the same thing. It’s not pink eye and the dr wouldn’t prescribe anything for it. It’s a virus. Your sinuses are so stuffed up you get boogies coming out of your eyes. I freaked and thought pink eye also. Takes about 2-3 days for the eyes to clear up.

Even if her eyes are not pink thay sounds like pink eye or conjunctivitis take her to her doctor

Could be really bad allergies. I thought my daughter had pink eye (eyes so crusty they were closed with gunk in the morning), but the doctor said it was just allergies and gave her a prescription for it. Cleared up in a few days

Pink eye. She needs drops. Clean everything as it is contagious

If she has a bad sinus infection it could be drainage from that. Dab them clean with CLEAN warm wash cloth. Dont use same area for both eyes and a new one everytime.
Eyes are nothing to forget about get her to a dr more than likely you will get some kind of a drop.

I looked it up when both my eyes turned pink when I had a cold a few weeks ago. It decided. I noticed the kindness on a Friday & decided if not better by Monday I would go to the doctor. By Monday they looked much better and were completely healed by Wednesday. I was over my cold the same day. Had been cleaning my eyelids with warm water morning & evening & put a cool cloth on them during day if they felt itchy.

The eyes don’t usually get colds. Even if they aren’t pink it seems that’s what your baby has. Take them to the doctor.

My sons colds show through his eyes every time! They get all goopy and gross every time he wakes up. Dr told me to just let the cold take its course while giving him Tylenol. The symptoms can show through any part of the body but as long as the white part of the eye isn’t red it most likely isn’t pink eye. Of course double check with a dr to make sure! Good luck!

Warm wash cloth or warm teabags will help

Warm compresses to both eyes and sinus areas 2-3 times a day.

Cooled boiled water with a little salt. Clean cotton pad (never re dip in water), sweep any gunk away from the eye, from the inside corner to the outside. This helps with the infection. A doctors trip just to be on the safe side as may need antibiotics x

Take her to the doctor. What in the world is, " it says the drops the Dr gives you don’t work." What???

Take her to the doctor. Someone’s child’s situation could be different than yours. Just bc it sounds the same doesn’t mean it is. I wouldn’t self diagnose. Take your kid to get properly taken care of. It’s neglect if you don’t.

I had a “cold” in my eye and went to the doctor and it was pink eye even though my eye wasnt pink, they gave me eye drops. Take her to the doctor.

Dealing with this right now and it’s my sinuses. They’re clogged and so is my nose and the gunk has nowhere else to go. Warm rag and eucalyptus or peppermint drops in a humidifier have been helping. But definitely get it checked by a doc.

Warm compresses to the eyes help, but don’t transfer cloth from eye to eye, use separate cloths

U can still have pink eye n not be pink def sounds like it

Do you breast feed her or any other baby? If so put a few drops of breast milk in each eye a few times over the day. Clears it up fast!

Took my son to urgent care, they said it was just cold symptoms, his cold was getting better but not his eyes, took him to CVS minute clinic, diagnosed him with pink eye, gave him eye drops and it went away. Don’t make your kids miserable by assuming, get your baby antibiotics asap before it spreads to the rest of your family.

Doctor doctor doctor

Eyes don’t have to be pink for pink eye. She could also have a clogged tear duct. My son did when he was 6 months old and they kept saying pink eye, then with all the gunk coming out of his eyes I thought they were crazy saying something was clogged up and I requested to bring him to a specialist and it turns out he did have clogged tear ducts. They gave me drops and I had to keep a warm wash cloth on each eye for 10 minutes at a time 3-5 times a day and his eyes cleared up in like 4 days. I did have to continue doing the was cloth thing everyday if he got sick but he grew out of it when he was about 3.

Whatever it is you need a md not fb

Take her to the doctor

Make some sterile water boil kettle put some salt into it in a dish let it cool bath eyes with cotton wool 1piece each wipe per eye

Do not put anything in your child’s eyes without a md telling you too - breast milk is good for the immune system yes but not that way !!!

Take her to the pediatrician! Don’t let her suffer.

Needs antibiotic drops! My grandson just had this in one eye and he is only 2 months old!

Try benedryl for a day or two and if it keeps getting worse take her to the doctor or er right away

My son had this issue, they gave us the same drops they would for pink eye.

Put some breastmilk in them a few times a day. If that doesn’t start to clear it up within a day, see a doctor.

Warm compresses often through the day and night. My son gets this every time he’s sick watch so it doesn’t turn into a infection (redness around the eyes) it will be worse in the morning after sleeping all night. I would squirt breastmilk in his eyes too after he nursed. I’m no dr this is from experience

Take her to the doctor’s could be something like conjunctivitis, warm water flannel to wipe away the ickyness dont double wipe on same spot if that makes sense and get it seen to asap I remember waking up with my eyes crusted over as a kid and not being able to open them and it freaked me out

Mucus build up. Stop all dairy products. More water.

People are insane. Stop giving treatment advice. Have you seen her daughter? No you haven’t. Take your kid to the damn doctor before they wind up worse off bc your listening to people on the internet.

Take her to a doctor … my son had a serious sinus cavity infection… it affected his ear eyes & nose . It was treated with antibiotics.

It’s either an eye infection which is different than pink eye or a blocked tear duct

My daughter had this and it was an ear infection. Weird part her ears didn’t even hurt anymore. She had one the week before and we finished her meds but it wasn’t enough.

Warm face cloth for now to clean whatever gunk is in her eyes. Maybe a trip to see her Dr. To get some eyedrops for that.

You still need to take her to the doctor . I did this all the time as a baby .

Drops given by a Dr likely won’t make anything last LONGER??
Pink eye just means an infection in the eyes. So a Dr once told me. Whites of the eyes not always pink BUT the gunk is usually yellowish if infected. And VERY sticky! Keeping the eye stuck closed even.
If that is present I’d say Pink Eye 100%.
But if I were you I’d take her to Dr … get appropriate eye drops. Eye infection may damage vision if left untreated!!

When my daughters eye started to do that we took her to the doctors and they diagnosed her with a double ear infection. Told us that the gunk in the eyes is because of all the sinus pressure from the mucus it has to go somewhere when the ears and noses are stuffed up and blocked. So it may be something like that

Doctors get paid to be able to diagnose problems not the internet…they went to school for years… take your child to the doctor and see what the doctor says

We had that- took her straight to the ER cause it was so swollen and crusted over- when she woke up. Gave us a cream to put in her eyes- like drops for pink eye but told us the cold settled in her eyes.

Take the baby to the doctor.
Also if she sleeps with a fan that can probably cause it too.

This happens to my son when he’s sick just wipe with a clean cloth every time u have to. make sure ur hands are clean

Idk if anyone has said this but both my daughters had same thing last week, my daughter which is almost 2 her doctor said to give them children’s Zyrtec allergy medicine 2.5mil . It cleared it up if that doesn’t work (my oldest which is 4 didn’t clear up ) her doctor prescribed some eye drops that did clear it up.

Take your child to the DOCTORS…

Is the child having any cold symptoms also? You definitely need to take her to the doctor. The medicine for her eyes may be necessary to prevent future damage.

You need a doctor not a Facebook group

sounds like conjunctivitis my son had a nasty virus that came along with what the doctor called pink eye at first but apparently pink eye is used pretty loosely where I live. Woke up at 3am and he was crying because he poor eyes where glued shut with that gunk. Go to the doctors, the drops I got cleared up his eyes in 48 hours.

My daughter had this too. Her idiot doctor said it was pink eye without even looking at her. We went ahead and tried the eye drops but as soon as we started to wean her off of them, it came right back. So i went to urgent care and she actually had an ear infection now. No surprise. She gave us medicine for that and said she’s not too worried about the eye and how the medicine should help that too. She’s completely better now. Get a second opinion! You know your child better than any doctor. Always wipe the eyes with a warm wash cloth that’s clean each time. Keep your hands and her hands clean. Disinfect toys too.

My 2 yougnest had pink eye, the eye wasn’t pink but did have green gunk. The eye drops cleared it after 2 uses.

Who is telling you this crap that the doctors drops will make it last longer? :unamused::roll_eyes: Get the drops stop making your kid suffer longer than needed.

Pink eye doesnt always look pink. Gunk is its main characteristic. Polysporin pink eye drops will have it gone by tomorrow.

Also take a warm washcloth and massage the tear ducts.

When my boys were little the dr told me to use a warm wet rag and some tear free soap to wipe the gunk off the eyes. My poor boys would end up with their eyes sealed shut when sick. Also I learned that the sinuses, tear ducts, and ears were all connected which causes the drainage in their eyes and ear infections. My boys both had bad allergies so once we had those under control the ear infections and eye gunk stopped.

Go to the damn doctor smh. Wal Mart even has over the counter pink eye drops jeez

Pink eye doesn’t necessarily mean the eye is pink. Sounds like conjunctivitis.

Take a couple drops of baby shampoo (original/yellow) in a cup/bowl with warm water, dip a cotton ball in it and wash baby’s eyes with it every couple hours or so. The shampoo is gentle and tear free, cotton ball is soft and not scratchy like a wash cloth. This works for allergy/cold gunk and works for pink eye. We’ve used this trick in our family for a few generations now.

It can be caused by bacteria so it’s important to go see a doctor. It can be very painful for children, my daughter had it so many times I stopped counting. Better double check it.

My son had gunk without swollen or pink eyes. He had a runny nose and low grade fever. We got the eye drops and found out he had an ear infection. Most likely all due to a virus. The eye drops cleared it up immediately

That is pink eye regardless of redness or not… the drops will clear her eyes up!

My daughter just had this in both eyes. I didn’t think it was pink eye either but I took her to the eye doctor and she said it was pink eye. 7 days of polysporin pink eye drops. They were better within 2 days but she recommended to continue for the full 7 days!

Warm wash cloth on eyes to pull out anything that’s in the eyes.

Obviously use medication to clear up any infection but tea bags will help with the gunk. Soak in warm water and hold on the eye for a while.
