My husband think it's okay to smoke weed and drive: Thoughts?

Is he smoking with kids in the car ? If not i don’t see why not. It doesn’t impair your driving

I think it’s a DUI and it’s stupid, reckless, immature, and inconsiderate of others
Regardless of weed or booze, it shouldn’t be done behind the wheel

Neither is right. Danger to other road users and pedestrians.

Smoking is not the same as drinking :woman_shrugging:

Drinking and driving and drugs and driving is just as bad as each other

Nope as far as I’m concerned it’s still driving under the influence.

It is not ok. It is definitely still driving under the influence

I’m sure a police officer would disagree……
also how selfish to drive under the influence and risk taking someone’s life

Under the influence is under the influence! Alcohol, drugs. Whatever Same shit!

What state do you live in?

As a consumer of marijuana it all comes down to how high and how it affects said person. If he makes no mistakes then he’s not under the influence. I wish people would stop using that as an excuse because as someone who’s smoked for over 10 years I’ve never had an accident while high or gotten a ticket. Being sober I’ve had several accidents. It helps my nerves when I drive. I don’t speed or drive crazy. So all I’m saying is it depends on that person and how it effects them. Also who else is in the car at the time too

Weed definitely does not effect a person like alcohol. It doesn’t cause us to have blurred vision or anything however it can slow down ur response. Like if a car pulls out in front of him it would take him a couple seconds longer to slam on the breaks

I think maybe have him look up the laws he could read it himself

However in the eyes of the law yes it’s wrong and u can be charged with DUI

It doesn’t affect you like alcohol does. I have smoked 35+yrs. I smoke & do everything including drive. Never have gotten ticket. Nor busted. It’s my medicine. I don’t take meds & have multiple health problems. Yes ppl can smoke & drive.

The guy that killed my parents while under the influence was found guilty. It’s not really what he believes but a jury of his peers. Play stupid games win stupid prizes🤷‍♀️. You are not to operate heavy equipment under ANY impairment prescribed or otherwise .

Weed effects everyone differently. I personally would never drive after smoking but I know others who have done it just fine for years.
Regardless of that he can still get hit with a DUI if they catch him so

The number of Marijuana deaths in 2020 is 0 meanwhile the number of alcohol related deaths is roughly around 95,000. Id rather have a driver under the influence of Marijuana vs alcohol but thats my personal opinion.

You shouldn’t drink or smoke pot and drive.

I agree with those who say it all depends on tolerance… I’ve been smoking for 16 years and don’t get really “high” anymore but it definitely helps my anxiety and pain. There’s people driving around in Vicodin, oxycodone, etc and to me that’s worse…

I have medical cannabis. I am not allowed to smoke and drive. They say to wait until you feel ok again. Some ppl that’s a few hours. I have a high tolerance so I am usually ok after 30 min or so.

Still a big fat DUI that remains on your record for life. You’ll be pulled a lot more often if they run your plates at random. Not worth it to me.

When I was a teen I smoked weed and drove… I’ll be honest I’m surprised The passengers and I survived… never did it again. 2 drinks over 4 hours is absolutely nothing compared to smoking and driving. At least in my experience…

Weed isn’t the same as alcohol. Weed affects everyone differently. That being said, driving under the influence, is still driving under the influence. No matter what, regardless how it effects said person, or how high their tolerance is. If pulled over, and the officer can tell that the person has blood shot eyes, or glossy eyes etc, they will most likely receive a driving while under the influence.

Only on long trips. Not really a good thing to do

Personally I would rather ride with a weed smoker then a drinker

My personal thoughts are under the influence is still under the influence whether it’s alcohol or weed.

No, it’s not ok. He’s an impaired driver. More because of his alcohol consumption.

It’s DUI. No excuses

Driving under the influence isn’t recommended at all.
However if I got to choose between sharing the road with stoned or drunk drivers, I’d pick stoned every time.

I think it depends on the driver in the usage, I know that my husband uses it medically and two quick paths calms him does nothing to impair him and probably reduces his road rage

For some people smoking weed gives them a “clearer” perspective and actually might help where alcohol does the complete opposite. Some people only smoke enough to “relax” and some use it for pain, but true weed/marijuana won’t distort things for everyone.

Weed and liquor effects are not the same in my opinion

I agree with ur husband

I used to smoke weed and I would bullshit myself and my loved ones saying I need it for my “anxiety” it helped me think clearer and calm down. BULLSHIT. I finally stopped lying to myself and just quit. I didn’t have any withdrawals or anything. And believe me I tried quitting many times and justified why I relapsed such as “withdrawals” or “stress” or now I’m just smoking to relax or it’s just like drinking a beer and it is all lie. I know it’s natural and stuff I even used to say it’s not that bad because of it being natural but you still don’t need it at all.

Not just weed but many drugs, yes of course someone needs thier insulin or heart pressure meds but lifestyle changes can reduce the need for so many medications.

Under the influence, regardless of what it is, is not safe - regardless of who you are.

Driving after having 2 STANDARD drinks over 4 hours is legal… the alcohol in your system would most likely be negligible and definitely under the limit. Driving while stoned is not

45 years of smoking. Nothing like alcohol at all

I disagree with him. My husband and I argued about this. I refused to allow him to have the kids in the car when he was/had been smoking. Now this was 2009 and before so that pot was the kind that chilled him out, not this hyped up stuff kids smoke now with 6x more THC in it.

Has he ever gotten pulled over for it? If not I wouldn’t care

So when you’re under the influence anything that causes new reaction and times are not good until you know how you react. I can understand though if you put a rule that he cannot smoke before there are children in the car because it’s not just his life at stake but others

I have very high end anxiety so smoking decreases that for me but on the other hand it also slows down my reaction time for example I have sat at green lights and that apparently pisses off other people

That’s a DWI or a DUI depending on the state. Don’t do it. Just not worth the trouble.

If he gets caught driving while high and the kids are in the car, that’s an automatic call to CPS by LEOs. Just a heads up.

I think it really depends on how high he gets. But I don’t really see a problem with driving while being high.
The drinking I agree with🤷🏼‍♀️

If one is taking anything that alters one’s state of mind…and weed does, then one shouldn’t be behind the wheel of anything.

How are so many of you ok with someone driving while high. That is fucking mind boggling

Regardless of the Marijuana debate, it is still a drug that affects reaction time and alters your thought processing, so driving?? No.

Your spouse is stupid either way!!!

With the amount of people still driving while prescribed medications that have a warning label saying do not drive or operate heavy equipment on the bottle with no repercussions, its not really any different then that.

Its the same as drinking hes under the influence n as dangerous

I dont deal with it period. U want smoke then i say bye. I dont like the crap around me period.

I dont smoke anything but I have friends who do. as long as they can drive as if they weren’t on anything I dont see a problem with it. Drinking is a whole different story ur impaired on alchohol regardless.

You could call the cops the next time you know he’s driving after smoking weed to see if they agree with him or not. :woman_shrugging:t2: Just because he thinks he’s okay to drive doesn’t really mean he is.

Lol. Smoking is nothing like drinking…

It’s still driving under the influence. Marijuana slows down your reaction time and even where it it legal (I love in Canada, so it’s legal here) it is still illegal to drive while under the influence of weed. I smoke CBD for anxiety, so I have nothing against smoking it. And cbd weed doesn’t have the same “high” as weed with thc… but I would still never drive after smoking. It’s wrong.

I think that Marijuana and alcohol affect people differently. I have never been so high i stumbled walking but I’ve been so drunk that I have. I dont think they are the same thing. But they are both illegal, but morally I dont see anything wrong with it

Nope. It’s not safe to be under any influence and driving :person_shrugging:

In California weed is legal but if you get caught driving while high(they can test now for it) you will get a DUI.

I don’t think driving while high on anything is a good idea. That includes prescribed medication or anything that is sedating.

If it was ok to smoke weed, why is it illegal and you get arrested if you are pulled over and you test positive? Don’t do it.

If you’re someone who smokes weed regularly, you can probably drive pretty well while high, just like a functioning alcoholic would be able to drive OK while drunk. Doesn’t mean either should be on the road. You get in an accident or get pulled over and no one’s going to care that you thought you were OK to drive

If he’s caught driving stoned it’s a DUI, same as driving drunk.

He’s fine to drive. Probably better actually.

He could still get arrested, but most people can drive fine. Also, the drinking just depends on your tolerance. I drove once after having 2 shots and half a drink.

Still considered driving under the influence, and he can still be charged if pulled over.

Hes good to drive. It doesn’t impact driving lmao, just makes you more cautious n aware of ur surroundings

Let him drive and when he gets pulled over and arrested then he will see if it’s ok

How I see it is, if it’s worth getting your license potentially taken, car getting towed, paying towing fee, possible job loss, no way to work, and fines, bail… then by all the means drive. But if you value any of this and you respect your wife/ husband asking you not too, then you won’t. It’s not about weather you CAN or not. It’s should you.

I bet half these ppl saying no have drank and drove at least once so he’s fine stop judging ppl mean while karen over popping a handful of pills and car pooling kids nobody bats eye because it’s medicine

Here in Colorado they don’t care if you’re drunk or high. You’ll get a DUI if you get pulled over.

Nope, that’s driving under the influence

It’s a catch 22 in my opinion… there’s always a risk of copping a DUI even with weed (literally just happened to my friend and she wasn’t even smoking at the time)… buuuut most people are just fine driving high, it’s definitely not the same as driving drunk. Although personally, I do not like to drive high, it’s out of my personal comfort zone but my husband on the other hand is honestly a better driver after smoking and I never feel uncomfortable in the car with him lol… it’s just different for everyone I think

It’s different for everyone. Some focus better stoned and some don’t like driving or even being in a vehicle stoned. :woman_shrugging:t2: is he a safe driver? If yes then leave him be. If not? Well you aren’t in control of him and he will learn his lesson :woman_shrugging:t2:

I’d rather meet him on the road versus some one that’s been drinking…

He could get arrested for that. Even if it’s legal in your state & if he has a card. It’s still considered impaired while driving

Stupid it slows reaction time and same as being .05 you don’t feel drunk at that but not allowed to drive

IMO, yes it’s fine to drive. But a lot of factors come into play. But to simplify it, yes it’s okay. But this is only my opinion, which doesn’t really matter. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My boyfdrives better high than sober. On the plus side, it doesn’t affect him much so, I’m OK.

Its the same as drunk driving

Imo, impared driving is impared driving. It’s illegal to smoke and drive where I am. It affects everyone differently.
