My mother in law got mad I put my baby in a walker: advice?

As long as the child isn’t walking/climbing and can’t fall out and hurt themselves, I don’t see any problem with walkers, for short periods of time….as long as they get plenty of time to crawl/roll/scoot whatever they do, and time to play outside of it to build their strength and motor skills…there is nothing wrong with it….imo, and I’m a mother of 3 and grandmother of 5

It’s bad for their hips. It is fine for a few minutes here and there.

Walkers are great just make sure they can’t go down stairs or steps or pull something on top of themselves. Make sure they can’t get to cords and pull stuff off counters and make sure all small stuff is out of their reach

They are afraid babies will fall down the stairs in a baby walker! I guess they haven’t heard of baby gates. Those wacky Canadians!

Yes they are banned in Canada, but I’m in the US and all of my kids used one and they are fine. Just make sure baby is supervised and that baby meets the requirements of the walker (weight, can hold head up, etc). Mom in law should stay in her lane, she’s not the parent.

Tell her that it’s your child and remind her she’s not the mother. And tell her to stop being so dramatic.

Doctors and specialists told me with my youngest who would be 3 no walkers due to the fact it can displace the babies hip and can make them walk funny as well! I didn’t use walker but a bounce and spin also was told that does the same thing is very unhealthy for babys hips :woman_shrugging:

They were banned in Canada because parents weren’t watching their kids and they’d fall down the stairs in them and get severely hurt or die.

Mother in law needs to but out. Not her child.
I understand if she said it in a I’ve just read or was informed just thought you should know kinda way…
But this read as if she demanded you to remove your baby rather than coming from a place of love.

I used walkers for my first 4 babies.
My last baby has issues that could effect his legs and the neonatal intensive care unit told us no bumbos no walkers no jolly jumpers no baby carriers as their legs hang differently and it can cause bowing of the legs or for their hips to set incorrectly.

Your baby is fine to be in that walker…

I would tell her it’s my baby and not hers! There’ nothing wrong with walkers as long as you are watching the baby and not leaving them unattended!

She sounds annoying. It’s your damn kid do what you want

Totes banned here in Canada due to the reason parents were leaving their infants unattended and kids were going down the stairs in those and whatnot and lots of kids got severely hurt. Not worth it imo

I had 4 children they all used a walker and grew up with normal hips with NO problems due to the walker. People hear something and run with it. Complete wrong information

Both of my daughters used a walker (Briefly) They were walking unassisted by 8 months --so no I do not think that walkers are bad for children’s development.

As long as they aren’t in the walker 24/7, I don’t see how it could hurt. Hip effects and injuries are from lack of support and improper monitoring

Walkers are not bad. Only bad if baby isn’t developmentally ready for them.
Baby should sit up without needing assistance and doing walking motion when being stood up with assistance by you. Otherwise not good. That was what was recommended to us by child PT and OT.

Tell her to mind her own business. You’re not doing anything wrong.

Here has been studies that state it delays walking and the correct form for walking by themselves.

Let the baby use the walker. It’s perfectly fine

Only because of falls like down steps and stuff like that. They quit selling them here for awhile too when William was born you could only get the stationary kind.

Tell her mind her own your child

My children both used them. It’s super convenient and even entertaining for them. They both walked perfectly fine and on time. I say you let it be known early on that you’re going to do what you feel is best as you are the mother and set the tone now rather than later

I put my kids in a walker and would rap blankets around them so they wouldn’t lean on one side. U can not nurse your child all day and a pram takes up too much room,
