My son has a diaper rash due to his antibiotic: What can I do?

Get the water wipes they don’t sting them at all and they have some grapeseed oil in there to help. Also aveeno makes an eczema bath he can soak in that helps soothe it. Butt paste works wonders.

corn starch is the best

Corn starch, bagbalm( idk if they still make this it’s in a green tin with a cow on it)

Poor little sweetie, I hope he gets better soon.

Try some aquaphor after EVERY diaper change. Helped when my oldest would get diareah from the lacoste free milk as a toddler. And call the doctor, they maybe able to put him on a different antibiotic. Good luck

I would not worry about food. Wash his butt in the bath tub every diaper change, even when just wet. Vaseline will put a good cover to keep bad stuff from irritating his skin. Just make sure to wash completely off ,use warm bath water and I used ivory bar soap or just reg dial bar soap. Let him stay in bath for as long as he will. Don’t put perfumed lotions on his bottom until cleared up

When you use an antibiotic sometimes they tend to get a yeast infection where you think it is a diaper rash. Google it and see which rash matches

MEDICATED BUTT PASTE! it’s the red one not the yellow label! Also let him air dry a bit before putting anything on. He may need Nystatin from the doc to clear up a yeast rash. Xo hope he’s feeling better soon

Bag Balm. Weird as it sounds it’s in the pet aisle in a green tin. It’s a miracle worker.

Cornflour/cornstarch! Best thing anyone could use for their wee ones nappy rash. Used it with my nieces and nephew when they were babies. And now my own. Best thing my mum taught me

Try smoothing corn starch on his bottom I know it works had six kids used it on mine

Forget Desitin, Aquaphor is a life saver! That is the only diaper rash product I’ve found that works so well and so quickly.

are you sure he’s not allergic to the script he was given!!???

A&D ointment :lotion_bottle: works better once it’s that bad

Aveeno baby bath soothes the skin. I use Butt paste not desitin. Every baby is different

Put Vaseline on his butt after every change it will help protect his butt from irratation and puts a protective layer on him easing pain or use A and D ointment does the same as Vaseline you can try oatmeal baths to help sooth it maybe even hydrocortisone cream it’s a pain realiver (just a little) cornstarch it will help keep it dry

Corn starch mixed with water make a paste works great

Bring baby back to the Dr. and explain these reactions. They will probably reissue a different prescription.

Stop using Desitin, that didnt work for my baby at all. I would lay off on using baby wipes if you can too, use paper towel with just water to wipe and use corn starch to pat dry his bum. You can also use Boudreaxs Butt Paste to protect his skin and coconut oil. This is what I did when my baby was on antibiotics and had gotten a really bad diaper rash. Works really good and is natural. Change his bum as often as possible. You can also use breastmilk and give him a breast milk bath if you have milk.

If that doesnt work, bring him to be seen and ask for something to make him have normal stools.

Burnt flour- put some regular flour in a dry skillet and brown it… Use it like powder…Works wonderfully…used on both my kids…

Butt Paste!! Saved us every time! I think it’s Boudreaux?

I used to mix hydrocortisone cream and diaper rash cream… Then i would let him lay on a towel with no diaper on to “air out”… Idk, but it worked…

Is it possibly a yeast infection if it followed a round of antibiotics and regular cream isn’t cutting it?

They should be able to prescribe something different ask your pediatrician about other options and explain what’s going on

Bordeaux buttpaste is amazing

Lidocaine spray. Numb the buns.

It could be yeast which would need treatment with yeast Rx cream, but the diarrhea could be clostridium difficile , which requires a different antibiotic. I would contact your doctor they may want a stool sample to check for C-diff.

Call your dr for something to put on ot

Bag Balm works great!! My Dad told me about it with my first (who has sensitive skin) and I never used anything else…

baking soda mixed with vasline, works miracles

I used yogurt! It’s cold, and doesn’t hurt and takes the sting away. Also, feed him some with probiotics in it.

Canestan cream, yeast infection cream. Do not use polysporne or vaseline. It will make it worse. Reason it makes it worse is due to a perfect environment for the bacteria to grow more which results in a blistering diaper rash. Most babies and toddlers develop a yeast infection when on antibiotics. Use a clean wet face cloth not wipes and dont use any butt creams. It may irritate your babies skin

Creams leave moisture that causes rashes. Use a dry form. Like a baking powder warmed a bit and that problem wont be one anymore

Make dang sure it’s not a yeast infection like my son had .

i always used caldesene powder in pink tube works great!!

Vaseline is all we use and it works great. Use it after every diaper change

Sat him in warm oatmeal bath

Used honest company healing balm on my son and he never had a diaper rash as a baby, even during loose poop times.

Use a&d instead of desitin. All my kids had issues with antibiotics. I found the zinc oxide in the desitin actually made the rashes worse. We did lots of baths instead of diaper changes. Hosing off with either the sprayer on the sink or the shower head depending on their age.

There’s this stuff you can buy on internet called Endit! It smells like pine tar but overnight it will be almost gone. Best product for diaper rashes!

Boudreaux’s butt paste
I also have used Vermont’s original Bag Balm

My girls pediatrician would give a prescription for nystatin and said mix it with beadreaux’s butt cream (or other like desitin) and maalox. Cleared it up and soothed it too

My son dermatologist told us to use Lotromin ultra (only that kind or a off brand with same meds in it) 2 times a day until it’s been gone for 24 hrs… once gone use aquaphor every diaper change really lightly…

He had been on oral meds as well as 3 different rash cream and store creams made it worse…

This was this only thing that ever helped him and now it’s all I use

Try Monistat cream it’s a yeast infection from antibiotics my kids got few times from amoxicillin -ear infections medicine

Athletes foot cream clears it up fast

This is a gamble but you can try no diaper for a period of time to let it air out… maybe let him chill on a puppy pad  i always used a&d as a barrier over diaper rash creams

get some Aveno oatmeal bath and soak him in a nice warm oatmeal bath then when you get him out dry him off and put the diaper cream on him

When my son had bad diaper rash/yeast going on they suggested using jock itch cream. I believe it is also the foot antifungal cream.

Camoseptine, probiotics, and spray some jock itch spray in all his diapers for the day at the beginning of the day so they are dry by the time he puts this on, and they make a cream to apply after bathing. We have been battling yeast and the like for several months now. Had to stop cloth diapering and everything. Also some diapers are scented and compound the problem.

I used monistat cream

Milk of magnesia on a cotton ball and dab on bottom . It takes the burn out of the rash. And then diaper rash cream on top of that!
It works amazing!

Resinol…can be purchased at Wal-Mart. Acts not only as a rash healer but a barrior…does not allow liquids to go under due to the thickness of cream while healing usually see difference within 1st12 to 24 hours

Call the pediatrician. Let him/her know that the baby isn’t tolerating this antibiotic well. They may be able to switch antibiotic. Also may be able to recommend something for that terrible rash. Hope baby feels better soon.

Probiotics can help and use a soft paper towel and warm water instead of wipes. My son used to be soooo sensitive I sometimes have to use Neosporin instead of diaper rash ointment

Nystatin works better then any diaper rash cream

Brown some flour in a pan. Sprinkle on and repear

Corn flour works too

A&D ointment, put a lot of it where the rash is and it will help. If you put a lot it won’t burn when he goes pee and caca.

Use corn starch, instead of baby powder. It works.

Old wives tale. Trust it.

Bordeaux Butt Paste!! Maximum strength(red label). Can be found at walmart. Love this stuff!!

Lemon lime or orange Gatorade will help keep him him hydrated… a&d ointment or desitin ointment… not cream… poor beeb… I’m not sure what to do about the diarea…

Ring or revisit GP if possible’ I had to change antibiotics or dosage? Good luck with bubs :two_hearts:

Hemrode cream it relieves the inflammation and soreness and works amazing

The best thing to put on your babys bottom in vaseline#1 idk why noone suggestd it🤔keep him hydrated with pedialyte also

ALWAYS call your Dr back

Bepanthen baby Cream

My son would have the same problem and I would use max strength desitin and put washcloths as a liner in the diaper. Saves on diapers and washcloths are easy to clean

Make sure you’re not giving to much juice, I guess he’s probably not on regular milk yet. They both contain a ton of sugar and will cause diarrhea if they’re getting to much. Especially when sick. Bananas will help solidify things.
Looks like you got good advice for the rash.

Aquaphore 200% worth the money

Maalox & aquaphor will clear it up within a day. Mix equal parts, you have to stir for a while.

Also i would start probiotics.

I’m just dealt with this with my daughter, it was awful.

I used corn flour for my kids when they were bubs…some say its an old wives tale…but it works

My youngest had non-stop ear infections from 3 months until his vents were put in at 1 year, so I know exactly what you are going through. Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee uses Triple Paste and it works FANTASTIC. You can get it over the counter at any pharmacy, Walmart, Amazon, etc. and it is worth its weight in gold!! Good luck and hang in there!

Call the doctor, there are many antibiotics that could help without side effects. He could become dehydrated too, not just miserable Prayers.:heart:

Rinse him off with water not wipes when you change him and let him run around naked for a bit between diaper changes! Air does wonders on diaper rashes!

It’s the same thing with my daughter before, If you know where to buy aloevera leaves or if you have at home, you can apply its water to the rashes directly. The rashes will heal fast, before you change nappy you also need to apply vaseline to protect the skin from the urine. Dont let your baby wear nappy 24 hours because it’s really dangerous, allow 2 to 3 hours nappy free. I hope you and the baby well :+1:

Leave his little butt open to air as much as possible

Bath him him as often as you can no soaps just fresh water on his bottom will help in the healing then desitin.

Nov 25, 2019 · There can be two types of diaper rash with antibiotics: Contact diaper rash – this is simply from the loose stools irritating baby’s bottom. Fungal diaper rash – this occurs because the absence of the normal intestinal flora allows yeast (fungus) to overgrow in the intestines. This yeast comes out in the stool and causes rash. TREATMENT. Acidophilus can help prevent diaper rash during antibiotic …Antibiotic Side Effects | Ask Dr Sears–just googled it

The white starch in a box. Great stuff

Air air air let him be naked as much as possible!!! Oatmeal bath and your pediatrician should be able to prescribe a prescription strength rash cream call and tell them diaper rash due to antibiotics and they can call it in. And try to not use a diaper or bottoms as much as possible!

Corn starch in diaper.

My daughter always use. A mixture of Vaseline and neorsphine and desitin

CORN STARCH AND MILK OF MAGNESIA!!! Mix it to like a loose paste. His little butt will look better quick. I have used this on my daughter and my son… my daughter has come home red as I don’t know what from her dads when she was younger and within 24 hours of using this if that long she was better.

Desitin burns!!! Put a&d ointment first then apply a thick layer of desitin.

Also as much air exposure as possible! It can get messy so I always put a shower curtain down Incase of a accident.

When my children were little we didn’t have lots of things for nappy rash like what is available now
We used Nurses Cornflower (yellow box at supermarket) instead of powder and it usually worked a treat at fixing nappy rash
I also used this on my grandchildren

A pediatrician or pharmacist.
