My ten year old started her period, do people still use pads?

My now 12 yr old started hers about the same time. I started her on pads, I believe it’s up to the parents and child but when she started I believed pads were the best way for her. They make tween pads but try a thin one at first. I always try to get my daughter thin enough ones to put in her backpack and make sure she has plenty and enough to change then while she’s at school.

I even wrote her teacher a message since they have an online platform for communication, and made sure she knew that she just started it that way she knew why she was using the restroom more frequently.

I only use pads. I use the Always Radiant pads. Feels like nothing is there and super absorbent.

I started mine at 9 and I still use pads. Tampons are dangerous not worth the risk. To each is their own but 10 is young she’s not responsible enough to use those.

Yes, I think the U brand thin maxi teen are the best choice for beginners.

My daughter uses pads. She uses the thick ones because her flow is heavy. She just turned 16 yesterday.

Omg i a guy and i know yes they STILL make them… Yall dont have TV or when was last time you been in a store

I use them, I just get the ultra thin ones

I agree with previous posters…10 is too young to be responsible enough to use tampons….I would definitely use pads to begin with :two_hearts:. And if she started her period, she is going thru puberty.

I didnt know pads went out of fashion? a video or book? just stick them? lol

I suggest pads and even maybe a cup or flex discs. I can’t use tampons, they scare me as an adult. Flex discs are awesome and help with cramps.

Libra has pads for girls…

Yes, pads and buy 2 different ones-heavy flow-maxi with wings and pads that are ultra thin for regular period. Panty liners are also good to use at the tailend of her period. You may want to get something for her cramps too like heat pads and midol.

always used pads and my 13 yr old does too u get them at the store yea i know crazy right

Give her some options and let her decide which she’s most comfortable with: period panties are a great option especially for young girls just starting, cloth pads, disposable pads, diva (or other brands) cup. Talk with her, explain how each one works, let her lead with what she feels most comfortable with.

Younger girls should use pads… I used them too. Only tampons once in a while.

Email Period Brand and seek educational advice from them, they will most likely send out info and samples for her to try.

They have soooo many different products now, Even swimming period undies.

May I ask what country you are in? If NZ I can give you some of the companies that helped me out

Um yes. Don’t you put no tampon up that’s babys…area

This is what I use. She would probably need a size 1. They also have a teen brand at my local Walmart. I don’t know who makes those though.

I don’t remember if it covers this, but you might check out the American Girl book, All About Me. My daughter hit at 10.5. She was at sleep away camp… good thing I prepared her ahead of time

My daughter started hers right before she turned 11. She has used pads since day one. 14 now nas she still uses pads.

My daughter uses pads, more comfortable!

I started with pads and still use them. I hate tampons with a passion

My daughter is almost 10 and showing signs she may start her periods early , so I’ve got her a little box of thin pads ready for her and she knows all about periods , and cramps etc , I have shown her how to use a pad etc , I wear them myself and wouldn’t reccomend Tampax x

Yes and it doesn’t have to be maxi

Get her period undies i don’t have a daughter just boys lol but I use pads and tampons but I have move to these undies and they are so comfortable I don’t stress about leaks maybe give them a go for her

I’m so nervous with my daughter as she is 11 so it can be any time  But she will use pads. She will not use tampons bc the first time she asks me for a tampon ima know she fucking someone… idk a virgin can even use tampons? I’m being serious bc I never used em until I became sexually active…

Best ones I found for my eleven year old when she started are the always brand. The ones I get for her are the thin overnight, with wings. It’s a little black box and the pads come in little packages with designs on them. Another suggestion are period underwear from ruby. You can get her a full kit and it comes with reusable pads. I know that sounds gross but they are awesome in a pinch. The kit even came with a bath bomb, a night mask, and many other things as well including a little book on what she can expect and how to help with cramps.

But a few different kinds. The smaller ones and the teen ones. My daughter who is now 11 tried different ones to see which ones she preferred and we went from there. So not use tampons for them at all. Any questions don’t hesitate to ask. We’ve been dealing with this for over a year now.

Of course!

I do and I’m 34 bc tampons make me cramp harder!

She’s 10!!! Do not start her off any other way other than a pad:bangbang::100:
She’s not ready for tampons

My daughter was 9 when she started her period. She uses pads I would not allow her to use tampons at all.

Make her as comfortable as possible. It’s not nice feeling like you have a double bunk between your legs

Get her the book “girls stuff 8-12” by Kaz Cooke, it’s a great way to prepare for puberty/periods and everything else. My daughters found it incredibly helpful. And period underwear are so great!

I started my period at 10yo with no information from my mother at all.
Pads back then were like a mattress. Now there is so much choice
Try different kinds till she finds the most comfortable and period pants may be an option …less abrasive…
Make sure she has bags of some kind for disposal and maybe wet wipes to freshen up at break…wee makeup bag in her school bag to keep it all together and save embarrassment if her bag spills …please don’t use tampons till she’s much older and can choose to try them herself

You should never use tampons for younger girls. Gosh

still use pads?
Girl are you serious? Some of us only use pads and will never use tampons. Obviously women and girls *still wear pads if they’re still making them. Tf? You should be ashamed of yourself for even asking such an absurd question. Smdh

Yes young girls still use pads especially when they are that young starting this new change you don’t want a child that young using tampons right away that would hurt them!

Yes I’ve Heard Pads Are Actually Safer Than Tampons

Yep! I used tampons forever, until I had a string break off. Then I said enough of that crap. Pads all the way. I find always the best brand. The no name brands are terribly uncomfortable and don’t stick right.

Yes. My daughter is 8 and will start with pads when that time comes

Always flex foam at Walmart my granddaughter same age

They make pads for teens, they are a little smaller than regular ones. That’s what I get my daughter because she’s so tiny.

U by kotex is the brand I use, they also make pads and panty liners

Always infinity flexfoam!!! Doesnt feel like you’re wearing them, amazing absorbtion and no pad line showing thru any pants!

They make underwear now that’s also made to help protect from embarrassement.

My bonus daughter started at age 10. I explained all the options and she chose pads. Kotex I believe is the brand and they make a teen pad as I assume it’s smaller

My 9yr loves the ultra thin pads and the period panties

Yes they do. There’s a really good book, that I got my girls; I think it is called Your body and you. Has all kinds of information that may be embarrassed to ask about, and advise on emotions, body changes, etc

My daughter started at 10. She uses the pads for
Teens. I also bought her period underwear and their great.

Yes ma’am, have her use pads an liners to start then you will know when the time is right for her to you tampons cause she will ask dear what ever she fills comfortable with dear just talk to her

My daughter used pads at that age and into her older teen years. She wasn’t comfortable with the tampons. Especially at that age she really wasn’t.

My daughter started at 10 and didn’t care for the teen pads! We both use the kotex security thin pads, and she has about 12 pair of period underwear we ordered on Amazon! She loves them and they have saved her from leaking onto her clothes in the middle of school so many times.

Get the 100% cotton pads and disposable underwear for overnight

You can buy period underwear now, which are great as saves embarrassment of leaks, you can use with a pad, you can buy some really absorbent thin pads now days, you can use period underwear by themselves. But be better for her starting out with pad as then she can know how often to change

Yes definitely! She should for sure start with pads!

My daughter started at 10 and she uses pads. She has tried several and prefers the always flex foam

Our 10 year, started recently & she uses pads

Have her use pads tampons are easy conventional but they can cause more harm for sum women good luck

Pads! My girls couldn’t use tampons. :grimacing:

My now 17 year old started literally the night before her 12th birthday & she wears pads, but without wings. She’s not a fan of the wings (yes she tried it).

My daughters use pads they started at 10 and 11

29 and still use pads… I have a serious hatred of tampons

My daughter is 11 she wears the teen pads she hasn’t had any leak problems yet

Yes pads! At a young age tampons will hurt or feel uncomfortable.

I use period underwear and tampons. Pads always made me feel gross. All thought just a tip if you do decide to go with period underwear soak in baking soda and warm water (not hot just barely warm) before washing to eliminate any scent (I do this every time but you don’t have to every time as long as you keep them wet before washing them)

Plus pads are healthier!

Pads are still great to start with I would buy a few different types so she can find which ones are most comfortable for her.

My daughter started in June at 7 years old. She’s really little and always on the move so I bought her the small panty liners and the thin foam flex.

There’s thinx period underwear that would be great!

It really depends on what she finds comfortable. But reusable pads will be better for her and your wallet

Omg yes. 26 never used tampons or the cup.
Yes please use a pad first. Don’t force anything.

Period underwear or maybe cloth pads

Pads - we use always infinity which are so thin which eases the discomfort when first starting to wear pads! I prefer pads most of the time and definitely feel like pads are better to start with seeing as tampons have risks.

Because she is still young and they can be REALLY uncomfortable, I don’t recommend setting her up with tampons. Of course its her choice and you can provide her with different options but I think period panties and pads would be the best option. I have an eight year old who went into puberty early and she is mid-high functioning autistic. She isn’t remotely ready for tampons so I have a variety of pads for her and period panties. I wouldn’t use the thin pads as those are really for days when you’re just spotting or barely bleeding. You’re gonna want to go with the longer and thicker ones because (TMI IK) its a bit like niagra falls for some girls and the last thing you want is her to stand up after sitting for a long period in class and all that gush on to her clothes.

My mom just gave me the Period Book. Sure you can find an updated version on Amazon. I always used pads until I was 15. After I started having sex.

Always start with pads. Tampons can cause serious issues especially if they don’t understand what could happen if not changed regularly. Toxic shock syndrome is no joke. I didn’t use tampons till well into my teenage years

Yes!! She’s 10…what else would she use??

I use a diva cup. Way more comfortable, cheaper…less waste.

I just brought these and I am in love with them. Much more comfortable than pads!

When my daughter started, there was a school pool party the next day… I took her out and bought her pads, teen tampons and a new bathing suit. I tried to make it a celebration and not a punishment.
