My ten year old started her period, do people still use pads?

These are amazing, super absorbent and thin not bulky like others very comfortable to wear if you do decide to go the route with her using pads I would definitely recommend these for her to try… they even worked for me after having my baby! Never had a issue with them leaking or anything

Try stay free thin pads or always. Stay away from any pad that says “maxi” they are thick and bulky. Pads are safe then tampons, tampons are too easy to forget and can be dangerous if forgotten

I wouldn’t trust a 10 ye old to be responsible enough to change a tampon just yet.

I’m 22 and have to use pads or I end up with awful cramping. It’s just what works for me, a lot of girls my age think it’s strange and have never even used a pad before.

My younger daughter (11) just started her period last year and she uses pads. My older daughter (17) still uses pads also. I use them too, I’ve tried tampons and they just aren’t comfortable to me.

Always very long very thin

Period undies are the bomb way more comfortable in my opinion they do have teen ones too.

Mines use always ultra thin. And I found a book from american girl it was really good but i forgot the name sorry my daughter passed it on.

36 and I will not use a tampon. I honestly don’t know how people use them. They make my stomach hurt and headaches but I guess to each their own. As far as a little girl as young as she I wouldn’t recommend a tampon for her at this age.

My granddaughters use both💗

I use kotex ultra thin and love them as does my daughter. For as young as yours is though I would try the period panties first. They come in different sizes and styles. Pricey but to start off may be easier for her. Good luck.

My middle daughter started her period last year when she turned 11 we get her pads only pads she has used all kind always, kotex, even store brand we just make sure we get her ones with wings she she’s still pretty new to it all.

I started when I was 9… used pads until I was 11 or 12… can’t imagine a little girl using any thing else… ugh why do we have to start so young (turning 33 this weekend with 3 kids already… 2 are girls… I’m not ready lol)

The Care And Keeping Of You is an amazing book, my step mom got it for me when I was young, it helped me through so much, I plan to purchase it for all 4 of my girls!! Highly recommend! This article tells you all about it.

Get her organic cotton pads

My daughter started at 10 n i buy her always u teen she loves them wont use any thing else they fit perfect for her

Pads are safer because of toxic shock. There used to be a kit you could order, beginner kit. Maybe research brands and see if any still offer kits. Try kotex, etc.

Yes i have to use pads after having both my kids due to being unable to use tampons

My 11 year old uses nothing but pads. I’ve offered other methods, tampons, diva cups, period panties and she’s sticking with pads. Only problem we’ve occurred is that, when she’s on heavier days she prefers a thicker, more absorbable pad that’s longer. But on lighter days, still longer, with wings.

Thin for school/ going out and night she could use the night pad or the thicker ones. Also, i depends on her flow. I have opted for thinner pads long and extra absorbent, but sometimes my flow is too much it overflows the pad (sorry TMI) so i opt for the bulky pads. Definitely work with her flow try different ones as she goes along and grows used to it all. :white_heart:

My twins started on pads but were educated on tampons. Both use tampons after a year of using pads including 1 ises the cup now.

Always flex foam is great for pads! Not thick and very absorbent and dry

Whatever she feels more comfortable using. I use a tampon only when I don’t have any more pads and that’s all someone else can give me. I prefer pads over tampons because quit honestly iv bled through more times than I can count with tampons, they need 2 be changed way more often, and iv had countless strings come out and almost get lost. Pads 4 me are more reliable. Get her both and let her test which she prefers and go from there.

My daughter is almost 16 and still uses pads.

We use pads. Never tampons

The always radiant ones are amazing!!

Start off with pads for sure! I wasn’t able to properly use a tampon until I began being sexually active because it would hurt. I still wear pads to bed tho as a backup. My periods are very irregular and always have been so I would encourage her to maybe journal it or if she has a smartphone she can download a tracking app. I was never educated the proper way to go about these things and it sucks having to learn on your own.

Mine uses reusable ones.

Here is a good book.

Pads would be way more comfortable at her age. Get her a variety and definetely some thick longer night time ones. Once she’s more comfortable and a bit older move on to trying other things like diva cups or tampons or whatever.

Yes I prefer tampons, way less messy, but personally I would suggest to start with pads then gradually test out tampons after shes used to having a period.

I use the diva cup my sister uses tampons my mom used pads offer to allow her to try and figure out what she is most comfortable with

I have my daughter who is 10 started last month she uses kotex teen maxi pads they should not use tampons unless they have been “de flowered” to keep it Pg

Period knickers. 5-7 pairs, wash every day. Invested in some after birth and no discomfort from wearing pads or tampons; they so comfy too.

Give her all of her options and let her try what she feels most comfortable with but lots of women still do wear pads. Completely normal. Everyone has there own preference.

I’m 27 and still use pads

I use pads. Im allergic to tampons and even if I wasn’t I do not like the way they feel. Im allergic to certain pads. Whatever she is comfortable with but they also have cups and sponges and stuff you guys could look into as well. Just remember to tell her about toxic shock syndrome, it can be deadly.

I don’t feel like tampons are made for younger girl’s. Always has an infinity pad that’s super thin with superb absorbency.

There is a book called “what’s happening to me”. It gives great explanations without too much reading.

Period Nirvana is an awesome resource for all things menstruation - on TikTok, IG, etc. They even have a box for first periods at period.shop, and there are a lot of brands now with sustainable, reusable options including period underwear, washable pads, cups and discs. So many nasty ingredients in most mainstream brands of pads and tampons and there tons of new options to have a safer/healthier/more comfortable period. :stuck_out_tongue:

Never tampons. For me, I have less cramps and a shorter period when I use pads. Plus the risk of toxic shock isnt worth it

I think the thin (but really absorbent) pads are perfect for a girl her age. I started my period young and I didn’t want to even think about tampons at that age.

I’ve heard great things about period panties.

10 is too young for anything but pads. Don’t even mention cups and tampons and anything else that is going to scare the wits out of this little girl. They do make the period underware tho. I may give her both to prevent accidents at school… we all know preventing leaks is a skill that comes with experience.

My daughter is 10 she uses both of these but she prefers the always brand.

give her all the options. please dont only suggest pads. a girl who just started her cycle can use tampons…

my mom told me about every option available. let her pick what she wants to try first… just if she wants to use tampons, get a variety pack(especially ones with a “light” tampon size, theyre the best for when your flow is light!

I use thick night time pads bc I have such a heavy flow  a lot easier to deal with than regular pads for me.

When I was in school our health class taught not to use tampons until you reached, I believe, sexual maturity or something. I believe they said not to use them earlier than 16 years old. So I started out using pads for years and then when I was a teen switched to tampons. Then in my 20s I switched to the cup.

I only use pads, I have a tilted uterus and I think it’s hard for me to wear tampons?

I’ve been looking into period panties because I still seem to leak overnight

Mine did for a year or 2. Then right around junior high started tampons.

Usually they start with pads and yeah get the thin ones

I dont like tampons. I like the always infinitely flex foam pads and period panties. Ill wear them together on heavy days. Period panties would be great for her especially being so young she wouldnt have to worry about leaking through her clothes. I leaked so much when i was in school that period panties would have saved me so much embarrassment when i was young. Definitely check them out.

If u email always they will send yr daughter a mixture of different pads and a book I did this on my girls

A girl of such young age should start with pads. They have super thin ones that are a lot more comfortable that what we grew up with. Tampons can be used once she’s a bit older if she chooses. That’s my thought anyway.

My daughter started hers at 10 also and I bought her the teen pads by always! Now she’s using the ones I use because she’s really heavy! Always infinity size 2 or 3 are great! But the teen ones are smaller if your looking for discreet ones if not heavy

I use always overnight pads for nighttime and super for daytime when my body decides tampons are bad.

They aren’t terrible.

My daughter and I still use pads. We don’t like tampons. Tampons are last resort and only if absolutely necessary. Tampon seem to make us cramp more. We also have to watch what pads to buy we can only wear one brand. The materials break us out.

Daughter uses pads and period knickers

Call doctor or hospital they did carry abook.

I’m nearly 27 and still use pads. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Get some from different flows and see which she needs. I was ridiculously heavy from the get go but my friends had barely anything.

I got my 10 year old period undies for when she starts hers.

I’d get all of the options, cup, pads, CBD tampons, normal tampons caps, pants etc

We’re a cloth and menstrual cup family :heartpulse:

But maybe ask your daughter what she feels comfortable using? :heartpulse:

Yes they still use pads. But I think it’s a to the individual what they prefer to use or even both

I would start with them. Always infinity are a good option

Pads are the only thing virgins should be using! Tampons shouldn’t be used otherwise.

Girls who start their period young should start off with pads.

They are also a safer option at any age.

I personally haven’t used tampons in over a decade. When I was in the army the female Drill Sgt pulled all of us females aside and explained that even though most of us were used to using tampons we needed to switch to pads because in the field, there would be times where there would be no way to change out a tampon for a dangerous amount of time.

I’m 25 and still use pads. It’s okay to use pads and it’s probably what’s best for beginners anyway. People like to pad shame, so I think it’s important to make sure she knows all forms of dealing with your period are valid, all that matters is you’re healthy (and as comfortable as you can be during that time).

I use organic brands of pads.

My girls use pads its kinda a trial and error to find which one will fit your daughter best so i advise to buy the smaller packs till you find which one fits and feels most comfortable on your daughter

They make tween pads that are super thin. I’ve bought some for my girls just in case they have an accident. Not sure on the brand tho, I’m thinking it’s by Always but I’m not positive. They package them in cute boxes so they should be easy to spot.

Yeah it should be the first thing that a young lady is introduced to

Always infinity pads are amazing! They are soft, and work great. There is also a book series by American girl called The Care and Keeping of You, for young girls. There are 2 books and a few extras like a journal and all. They cover all sorts of topics from hygiene to puberty. You can find them on ebay, Amazon and so on.

Ruby love starter box was amazing!!! Highly recommend for her, also there are teen pads too at Walmart or DG and they are good starters

My daughter uses the thinner ones. I had to use thickest available plus tampon. She has to figure out what she likes best. Although imo I wouldn’t recommend tampons right off the bat

There are some really good pets for teens called tweens made by kotex there in a black box or a colored box

Highly recommended pads. They have so many great organic options to choose from too. Just make sure she understands changing it often to avoid uti or yeast infections. They have so many good books for young women :gift_heart:

I use both. I used to hate pads but after my 2nd child was born… They were more comfortable. Always flex foam, amazing! They are thin and hold ALOT!!! LOL. They have a teen version.

Yes they still wear pads and they make one for teens. Also try think under wear. It is great and no pas needed depending on your flow. Target has them or you can order them online. My daughter had them and they are great.

Girl I’m in the same boat my 10 year old also started the summer she prefers the the I guess old school pads the thicker ones as do I the my older daughter does like those thin ones they’re like super absorbent just have to have her try them on and see what she likes.

This book was amazing. I am not sure if they have changed it but it has lots of wonderful information and definitely helped my daughter to feel comfortable toask questions etc

I use pads my daughter got it last year at 12 and I had to introduce tampons once for a family waterpark trip. I felt horrible to have to make her miss out because of something she can’t control! So I taught her all the basics and we discussed we would be going right back to pads after that and it was a special occasion. She will be 13 in a cpl weeks and we still use pads and they was the one and only time so far she used tampons.

Just get her to try numerous types of pads and brands. As she will find what works best for her. As there’s sports pads. That are super flexible and will move with your body. Overnight ones that add extra protection one front and back.
Because I know that there’s brands I can’t use and others I can. Just like the types of styles.

On top of that with pads your less likely to get toxic shock. As the risk rises more with tampons

Yes pads are still widely used. Tbh use a pad for a while until you think shes ready or she feels ready. Because tbh shoving something up there for a young age can be traumatic

I would get the cotton ones that don’t have the harsh stuff in them. I switched to them before I had my hysterectomy and I felt so much better

Personally I think stop taking advice from strangers on what should be best for your daughter ask her Dr an go from there they do make teen tampons that are small me personally I will start my daughter with a pad an if she not comfortable using them an being in school all day will will discuss tampon use with her Dr…so far she will be 11 and don’t have it but most woman in my fam started at 14 so I am hoping she atleast gets that far before having to deal with that BS…

My daughter also started young and she likes the Kotex U for teens! They are a bit smaller for her smaller framed body

Period underwear, pads the best kind in my opinion are the Always Flex Foam

These are amazing…my 11 year old started hers this last year and this brand is her preferred one. Said they are comfy

Mine just started hers this summer and I buy always ultra thin in like 1 on the size chart on front. Not too long or thick because they are already so tiny.
