Hi, I’m seeking advice on anxiety or depression medication. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression on and off (from the age of 11 to now almost 22). I never wanted to use medication as I’m scared to “rely” on something my entire life but now understand that if it is what helps me, maybe I should consider it. I’m really scared to try any medication because of the side effects or how it can make you feel worse. Has anyone been on these types of medications, and can you share your experience? I’m not sure how to go about it or where to even start. Sadly, when I told my doctor about it once, she prescribed me anxiety pills, but didn’t even tell me what they were I had to ask all the questions myself, which made me feel like they actually didn’t even care but just wanted my appointment to finish which sucked. I just want to feel better, I’m tired of fighting a battle in my head everyday. Please, I need encouraging words so bad right now. I feel so low and I have no family support either.
I have had to do a “trial and error” period to find the right meds for me. I have more anxiety then depression and am on Lexapro. I love it. It will take some time to see what works for you. Just give it time and listen to your brain. You are the only one who knows how you feel. Good luck!!! And don’t feel bad for getting help!!
Same! I finally found a doctor to listen alittle more to understand me. I take ativan for the really bad times and the other times i just wing it bc I’m afraid of being dependent forever. They prescribed me lexapro that i dont take:sob: Just know you arent alone amd the bad times do pass!
My advice would be find a new pcp if you don’t feel comfortable talking to the doctor you have now you need a new one. Second you need to discuss how you feel about medicine with the doctor. Normally they will start you off on a lower dose and do a follow up in a month and adjust the medicine as it’s needed…
I took 10mg of Lexapro for about a year after my Mom died. I was also in therapy. The lexapro helped manage symptoms while I worked some things out with my therapist. After I felt like I had a better handle on things, I ditched the meds.
I’m not against medications, but hoping you’ve exhausted all other options first. I don’t know your story, but have you tried going to the gym regularly or working out 4 to 5 times per week? Also, lots of water and multivitamins. I hate to see people put chemicals in their bodies w/o exhausting other measures first. Working out and eating healthy has completely changed everything for me, so I know it works. Otherwise, sorry I don’t have additional advice
As hard as it may seem, try to always remember that you are NOT alone! So many suffer from this, myself included! Don’t ever be embarrassed to be on medication. I was that way for a very long time but it truly does help if you can find the right combo for you and the right doctor as well. A good therapist helps also. Here if you need to just talk!
From my experience, depression/anxiety meds are all trial and error. Something that works for someone else may not work for you and visa versa. Honestly, your best bet would be to find a real therapist and make an appointment with someone who has way more knowledge in drugs for your brain verses a PCP who sometimes just prescribes meds they may get a kick back for. Not to mention, counseling is necessary with medication to get the full effect (at least in my opinion)
My kid takes allergy & asthma meds because he can’t function without it. My other kid takes ADHD meds because he can’t function without it. If you need it to function day to day, why would you withhold it from yourself? Treat it like any other necessary medication.
They do a dna test that tells you what meds work best for your system. You have to find a psychiatrist that works with one of the company’s cause it is expensive
First find a new doctor. Sometimes you have to try different meds that work for you. A good doctor will help with this. Good luck
I took depression and anxiety meds separately and now I take Zoloft and it helps with both, which means I don’t have to take multiple pills. The dosage is what you need to watch, if it feels like it’s not working, let your doctor know. They can change that or try something else. I would suggest a new doctor and make sure it’s someone you’re comfortable with.
You need to find a new PCP. Ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. Make sure they go over side effects & risks. Then research the medication yourself before filling it. Many drs will prescribe meds that will cause side effects or long term affects that require more treatment or medication. It’s the pharmacy game in America. There’s no phyc drug that doesn’t have possible side effects.
As a therapist, I would recommend CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). It does require doing homework but can be very effective. Don’t get discouraged good treatment is available. The right medication can also help.
For one . The best advice on meds you will get is from the pharmacies. 2nd been there done that. What you need is a support well taking these meds
Definitely seek help. I take lexapro for both. I also talk with a therapist.
Stay off the meds and try edibles! So much better for you.
I have had like every medication out there and had reactions to all of them the drs tell me there is nothing they can do for me it really stinks
I take medicine. It’s very important you find a good doctor first. The medicine for anxiety and depression is all trial and error. It took me a few tries to find the right one. But with the right doctor it’s possible. It’s also good to do other things to help like talk therapy and exercise.
Ive taken meds for anxiety and depression for about 30 years.sounds crazy, but it makes the difference for me .my gyn/ob was actually 1st dr to rx for me.she was so understanding, probably she went through it herself. But finding a good dr is key, if your dr doesnt listen or doesnt explain look for a new dr. I think sometimes we all forget the doctor works for us.i wish you the best luck.
I took them and they were helpful. Nothing dramatic though. The worst side effect (with one) was constipation. You don’t have to keep taking a drug if you don’t like it, but you might need to taper off.
Just saying, if you need someone to talk to I deal with the same things…
I’m currently taking Lexapro. It helps a little and I havent had any side effects from it
Used a lot of meds, zoloft is by far the best for both anxiety and depression.
I haven’t been off an on medication for mental health since I was 6. The only one that has ever actually worked was Viibryd. Avoid Seroquel at all costs.
Paxil my best friend. Just a couple weeks after starting it, i laughed for the first time in years. A real laugh. Not a fake/forced laugh. I wasn’t in a fog, or wanting to sleep 24/7. The runner up to that was zoloft, which i got switched to while pregnant and then breast feeding.
Been on depression and anxiety medication. Ask doctor about wellbutrin for depression
I have been on anxiety and depression medications for many years. It might take a while to get the right med or dosage for you but I’m so glad to have something that works.
I was the same way didn’t want to take medicine for all the same reasons, I asked my Dr if they could recommend me a therapist for my anxiety, best thing that’s ever happened to me. It takes time and work but it does work. I went from very bad anxiety and panic attacks daily morning until night. Started seeing my therapist and learned tools that do work and gor better over time.
Find you a doctor that you trust! Also, meds work best when you have a therapist to talk to.
They diagnosed me with chronic depression at age 26. I had a problem with being diagnosed with depression that I made my doctor change my diagnosis to difficult adapting to changes. I went on for 10 years without medications. At age 36 I found myself pursed lip breathing and literally counting my steps to my car to run a mandatory errand because I wouldn’t leave my house unless I absolutely had to. I could not take it anymore called my doctor and she put me on Paxil for anti anxiety meds and Ativan prn for anxiety attacks. I have only taken three ativans since prescribed in the last 9 months. I was starting to feel an anxiety attack coming on and I took the Ativan and it just took the edge off. I wish I had taken the meds way sooner. I had to remind myself that I wasn’t weak for taking meds, we literally have a chemical Imbalance and need the medications just to be the same starting line as every one else. Find you a better doctor. My doctor was so happy for me that I got the help (finally!) and reminded me that we can always stop, adjust doses or change medications until I feel comfortable with it. My 16 year old told me she see’s a huge difference and that makes me feel like I’m on the right direction. I was on the brink of divorce and now things are much better. Good luck!
I have always struggled with anxiety and depression but it seemed to get worse after I had kids. I’m now on Lexapro once a day and buspirone twice a day and it really helps me. The buspirone makes you pretty tired the first couple weeks but once your body gets used to it I have had no other side effects
I would talk to ur doctor about talkin to or getting in contact with the mental health department of wherever u get health care. Also I’m so proud of u for trying. I know it sounds contrived but I know how it feels to be so ready to give up. I’m very similar to u about the feeling of dread in regards to medicating (I’ve been depressed from 8-26 so I get the longevity life of all of it) but it’s one of the best things I’ve tried. I take the escatilopram and it works AMAZING for me. I tried it especially rn bc I mean where am I gonna go and mess stuff up yknow? I’m safe at home and can talk to people about how everything is going or sometimes I journal the bad stuff out to get it out. Just be really clear with ur doctor about how u r nervous and know that it’s something that affects the chemicals in ur brain. Being flaky (I’m very flaky with meds but this helped me not to be) is DANGEROUS. So if u can commit to doing it everyday and being gentle with urself I highly suggest getting in touch with a therapist/psychiatrist (they prescribe the meds). And again, good on u for being self aware. It’s important.
Some depression meds can make you more depressed give you worse thoughts
My psychiatrist put me on Vraylar. I haven’t had any negative side effects and I feel I got my life back.
You need to be seen and treated by a psychiatrist, not you regular doc.
I am on a med that doesn’t make me sleepy and keeps me happily functioning instead of worrying about every little thing and trigger my anxiety bupropion is the name and it works very well without needing to come down off of the med so that’s amazing and doesn’t mess up the mind if you miss a dose
Also there are lots of groups on FB they are all great about supporting each other
God hasn’t given you a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind. Ask for wisdom
Often your OBGYN can prescribe something or refer you to someone
Good advice Nana case
When I lost my mom I went over the edge , so u have to do what’s right for you and Judy cause your on meds dosent mean you have to stay on them , if you can get in to therapy do is as that helped a lot with childhood issues and it helps to talk with an outsider, keep your self busy. Crafts reading , music always makes me feel better, good luck🙏
My story was very similar to yours. I found myself in situations where anxiety would take over and I’d try to get over it on my own because taking medications for anxiety was not an option for me. I didn’t rely on medication for anything else so why would I rely on them for anxiety when I could just go for a run to clear my head. That was my mind set. Then my anxiety got really bad. It started taking over my life and I started to not feel like myself anymore. I finally realized that I needed help outside from a run even if it meant trying medications to control my anxiety. Telling my husband how I was feeling and then talking to my doctor was the best thing I did for myself. I started medications and within a month felt amazing. I stayed on the meds for about 5-6 months then went for a follow up with my doctor. I was doing so well that I was able to come off the medication entirely. It’s been about 2 years now since I stopped medications and I still feel great because while on the medication I learned to manage my anxiety in other ways! I highly recommend speaking with your doctor again and giving the medication a shot because sometimes they don’t have to be long term.
I took Celexa for 10 years after my husband passed it really helped. It was a struggle coming off and you need to cut the doses till your off. If you need it it’s a lifesaver. Good Luck
Go back to Dr, if you are suffering from depression as well as anxiety they will treat that as well. Just be careful about anxiety meds some can be very addictive. Keep trying to you find the right Dr for you. Good luck, you can do this.
I take xanax for severe anxiety and it has helped me so much find a good psychiatrist and get plenty of sleep and keep the Faith will pray for you
I wish I knew you…we could talk about cannabis as a reliever for you. It works unbelieveably well and there are so many ways to take it. Personally, MUCH better than anxiolytics. And you CAN become dependent on them. But cannabis is non addictive. Try and find Medical Marijuana dispensaries in your area. Wishing you all the best.
My doctor prescribed to me to eat a banana every morning and take a multivitamin with B complex vitamins. I also take calcium and vitamin D. Has worked wonders for me for years.
If you aren’t happy with your doctor go to a psychiatrist…I would say you need an antidepressant. I have found that psychiatrist seem to understand better. It can take a little while…to kick in but it is so helpful. I have been there before and you are right…it is a hard battle by your self. Now there is a difference between meds for anxiety and depression but your doctor will be able to tell you what you need. My prayers are with you. You are not alone with this…
Everyone’s chemistry is different. Just be very honest with your doctor. It may take several different tries to find what works for you. For me:
Prozac = not helpful
Sterilne = weird burping and only somewhat helpful
Zanax = no thanks (made me feel stoned)
Wellbutrin = bad dreams
Cililopram = fairly well no side effects
I just know these are all spelled wrong.
I am also on an as needed for anxiety but can’t remember what it called off the top of my head. I didn’t want to take meds either but it eventually got to a point where I was running out of options and was just done if something didn’t give.
Find a different therapist that is invested in your mental health. Some medicine has more side effects than others.
I’ll echo what so many have said. Find a good therapist/psychiatrist. You wouldn’t see your PCP for a torn ligament, don’t see them about your mental health either. It’s not their specialty and it sounds like you could do with a doctor who specializes in mental health
I went though this for years when I mother passed away I was 21. I have been on bupropion for years. Just takes the edge off
I went to a psychiatrist n he gave me 3meds that worked great 4me, I was on them for 1year n now I’m only on proponal (take as needed 4anxiety)…meds worked for me!
I spent many , many years on antidepressants. They did seem to help me in the beginning but they changed me… made me just not care about things as much anymore. This was not a feeling I liked. I went off them. And yes it was hard at first. I have since given my life to Jesus and I give to him whatever I cannot handle. I pray a lot. I am well now. I hope this helps . God bless you.
I have anxiety. At first, I was very angry about taking my medication. But over the years, I feel much better about taking my medication. It does work. I see the difference. There are different ways to treat anxiety but I chose the medical route. I don’t regret it. So if you need medication, take it. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Also anxiety can be hereditary. It runs in my late moms side of the family. I’m not afraid to talk about anxiety. Thanks for asking such a brave question. Good luck to you and I hope this helps. Best wishes to you as well. I’m on generic Zoloft.
I’ve dealt with anxiety and seasonal depression since I was child. As an adult diagnosed with depression and PTSD. As a young adult I used and still use light thereapy, antidepressants, anxiety med, counseling as needed. There were years I went without any meds but I’m 52 now and have finally found a balance. Some years are worse than others. Self care and avoiding stress and triggers or certain people is important.
Please don’t be ashamed to be on meds for your condition. I proudly take my Zoloft every day and I call it my best friend! My anxiety was too much and I am not too proud to ask for relief. Stay strong darlin. Better days are to come!
I have taken the depression medication Prozac for seven years since 2013. I haven’t had any side effects. If you’re depressed you need medication for it. It’s nothing to be ashamed of either.
You will need to be your own best advocate.
Here are my suggestions;
- when taking medication track what you are taking the dose date started.
- any dose changes increase or decrease or medication changes note the reason why.
-realize you may need to try different medications to find what works best for you - do not stop taking without talking to a doctor.
It took me about 5 different meds to find one that worked for me. Couldn’t take the first 4 cuz of the side effects were awful and yes it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get balanced in your system. I take celexa had no side effects and now feel like a million bucks. Wish I would of made the division sooner.
Effexor is a good medication but it is also horrible if you miss one dose or when you come off of it. It is HELL
I take venlafaxine and it’s been a lifesaver literally. I was suicidal, depressed and a horrible mom and wife before I got help. I got on my medication about four years ago and take it daily and to this day remain at the lowest dose. I have had no side effects from this medicine and am living an entirely new life. I am a better mom, better wife, a better friend and more importantly I can stand myself and don’t want to die everyday. Do I still have some bad days? Yes. However, they are way far less and few then before and way more manageable. Should one continue with therapy and such to work through things that bother them? Yes, I fully support this too. I hope you can come to terms with what is happening with you and talk with your doctor and find a medication that will help you have the life you want to be living everyday. It is possible and you deserve it!
What you must understand is that there are many kinds of depression and some kinds are caused by chemical imbalances which may require long term medication to control. A medical doctor may not provide the kind of care you require. A psychiatrist who is also a medical doctor may be able to better assess your needs. I have used several over the years but for long term use I have found that Trintellex has been a game changer. Good luck and God bless.
I suffered through my twenties because I did not want to take medication. I finally relented and oh… I wish I had done it sooner. A low dose of Prozac gave me my life back and I experience no side effects. I’ve been on it for years and call it my Vitamin P! There is no shame.
Would you take medication for a heart condition? Same thing! You have a brain condition… in my case, a chemical imbalance.
Caution: you may not feel any different for a while. Then one day you’ll realize, “Hey, I don’t feel so bad today.” It’s all uphill from there.
I agree with other commenters. Be patient. It may take time to find the right medication for you.
Cbd would better for anxiety and THC would be better for depression. It’s not a cure all but it definitely helps!!
I take valium for anxiety with no side effects and it makes me feel better. I’ve suffered for years also and I’m 67 now.
The meds help! When my mom died I went on them and have never regretted it. It was a good thing for me to do it calm me down I was able to sleep it’s very much worth it please consider it.
I have experience all that long time ago and I landed I psychiatric unit. I was so lost in my head .my heart. Every thing was mix up. And scary. This was about 25 years ago. One night I felt on my hospital room floor and ask the Lord to take my life and He did…I cry He took me in His arm and I fell asleep next morning. I was completely healed. I WAS OUT OF THERE IN 2 DAYS .I never took any other medication since except reading my Bible almost every day since that day. The Lord had took all that away from… I had told that to many person they did it but as soon as they feel better they stop… and they return back where they were…it is not a game. GOD LOVE YOU and He want you to have times with Him. I can tell you l ve seen other people in the same situation and today there are still there but not me. HE IS MY LORD AND SAVIOR. SINCE THAT DAY IN 2 DIFFERENTS OCCASION THE DOCTOR HAD GIVE ME 2WEEK TO LIVE OR LESS . 1ST IN 1996 .FOR MYOPATIC TOXIC ONE CHANCE ON A MILLION TO MAKE THAT AND IN 2019 A DOMETREOSE CANCER . NO CHANCE AT ALL TO SURVIVE THE OPERATION. I WAS OPERATE AND I AM STILL ALIVE. AND 71 YEARS OLD. MY GOD is taking care of me. And I am still reading my bible and had joined a church where they teach the world. TRY IT SPEAK WITH HIM.HE IS WAITING FOR YOU. I PRAY FOR YOU
I have been on several different meds for my depression and anxiety and they have helped. I have a phyciatrist so you may want to think about getting one instead of just your primary md and they will know what meds to prescribe to you and how you may react. I still see my psychiatrist right now every month as i am going through a tough patch. I hope that whatever you decide that someone can help you.
You need to try a different doctor. Have been on antidepressants since my diagnosis in 1992. They definitely improve my quality of life and allow me to hold down a job.
You need a good therapist. You also have to be open to being meds. I have been on many meds, I have told my doctor I don’t want to be on them the rest of my life. I have come to terms with my doctor that I can’t be off my meds, I will relapses. A good support group can help too. I’m sorry you are going through this. Find someone that will just listen. They don’t have to answer unless you want them too. I’ll keep you in my prayers.
Your medical doctor knows your body makeup so try there first ! Different medicines fit different folks better than others !!
Hi at first I was like that.Started my anxiety was really bad .I downloaded an audio for anxiett to help it worked alot try that.IMy anxiety alwas really conttolled but I had episodes of deep depresion amy doctor said paxil to try it at first I was not takin but all I wanted was to be ok .So I did they have no bad side effects at all,ive been almost a year and I feel good ,take it see if it works meditate and if you need a friend request me ok god bless.
My primary has been helpful but I am also knowledgeable about meds due to my work at a psychiatric residential treatment center. There are psych certified NP. FNP-C and psychiatrists that are much more trained on these types of meds. So that is my suggestion. I have been on Sertraline (Zoloft) for almost 20 years. I have had very little side effects from it if I take it at night I find it’s harder for me to sleep and then low libido is the other. But the benefits out way the side effects in my opinion. If you dont want to do the medication game there is also a genetic cheek swab test to see which medications (anxiety, depression, mood, etc) will work the best for you. It’s not perfect but they categorize them by red yellow and green.
Meaning meds in the green list are the most likely to benefit you vs those in yellow and red. Lots of developments and new meds all the time.
Sorry to hear that sometime you need medication and it takes awhile to work but when it dose kick in you feel a lot better in yourself see your doctor again
I have been on them for the last few years. I found a good therapist who understands I want to work on getting off of them. I am working on lowering my dose as we speak.i tried many different ones because I want to still feel. I don’t want to feel fake happy when I know I should feel. I am on Prozac to help with my anxiety as well. I have a lot of adverse reactions to meds- what most don’t and this was the one that didn’t give me any. I used to just treat the anxiety. But I don’t need to anymore. Therapy has helped me so much. Just took finding the one who works for me. And my dr. And therapist work together with my meds.
See a make an appointment with a therapist. They can help you get on the right medications. I’ve had much experience. You may have to try a few different ones before you find the right medicine. Just so you know. But its worth the effort. Medication doesn’t solve all the problems. Talk therapy is importance as well
First find a dr that will talk with you not at you. Your dr doesn’t seem like he’s very good…second a good dr will explain the pills he puts you on and will keep up with how you’re doing…third yes there are some medications that don’t work for everyone and you have to find the right ones…I have bad depression and it took a while to figure out the right medications…don’t give up…praying for the right dr and for you…good luck
Have your doctor check your vitamin D levels. Some people’s bodies do not absorb/process vitamin D from the usual sources such as sunlight. A vitamin D deficiency can cause depression.
I have anxiety and depression as well and ive been on medication for it (mostly depression) for a few years now. I felt the same as you when i started my meds that i didnt want to rely on them to make me feel better. I think they’re worth a shot to try them because they could really help you. You might have to try a few different ones before you find what works for you but theres no reason to be ashamed about being on meds bc if they help, they help. i also agree that therapy is also helpful and doing other things like yoga, meditation, and even exercising can also be helpful in making you feel better
I’ve been on Zoloft for for more than 20 years. Sometimes it takes a few tries for correct dosage or even a change to a different medication. Depression and anxiety run in my family. But medicine combined with determination can get you functioning again. Remember to find a good physiatrist that you can relate to talk to him or her about symptoms and be honest. Medications take a little time to start working. Don’t give up. If you don’t start feeling better go back and talk to ur Dr. Good luck!!!
Try to make an appointment with a therapist like a psychiatrist. They know the meds probably better than your primary care and should be able to help decide which one will work best for you. Each medication affects every one differently. So, what works for one person may not work for you.
I’ve been on medication for 21 years. Found out the base problem was an underactive thyroid. They treated that and the depression and anxiety and it’s important to get therapy too.
I would definitely try counseling first just to see if that will help you. I had anxiety really bad for a few years and it would get so bad I would need to go to the hospital. Eventually I got prescribed Xanax and Ativan. I had them for a long time before I actually started taking them. I would only take it when I needed it and I would break it in half first because I was also nervous about taking pills. It helps me a lot and eventually my anxiety went away and I don’t really get attacks anymore. Just try with the lowest dose first so you can see how it affects you.
I used to see a specialist who helped me with this problem. Try to stay away ftom a narcotic, there are other things. I used to take zoloft , the brand name
Generic wasnt good for me. It gives you a balance and mellows out some of the anxieties without numbing the thinking. It will also help you to sleep
The dosage depends on where you are with your anxieties. You can use a high dosage and slowly lower it. Thats what I did. Also I bought a program with a lot of tapes to help me to gear my thinking in a more positive way.
I wish I knew where you are, I would give the tapes to you. I would have to see if they still work well
It was expensive at the time I bought it. They were made by a nurse on how to attack anxieties and depression.
You really need to find a good therapist and learn effective coping skills to help with the anxiety. There is absolutely nothing wrong with medication to help.
I was on Zoloft as a teen…it helped curb my anxiety and OCD stressors but I still had to do the rituals that come along with OCD I just didnt care anymore. I was on lexapro 2 separate times as an adult and that worked perfectly each time for me but it caused some weight gain and the side effects or the stories of it making things worse are just for the first couple of days, at least for me. It was worth it considering how I was barely functioning with my anxiety being so bad.
Now my dr just out me on Trazadone 4 days ago because I csnt sleep now on top of the anxiety, OCD and adjustment disorder with depression. It has helped me sleep instantly, I’ve had a mild headache and nasal congestion (yes thats a side effect early on) but other than that I am looking forward to seeing if this medication works for me in the next few weeks!
It’s worth it I promise you it is so worth it to be able to enjoy life! Good luck and just know you are far from alone!
Both my daughters are on Zoloft. It has helped them immensely. They don’t really have any side effects other than it makes them extremely drowsy when we up their doses.
I have been suffering with both anxiety and depression. I did try the meds and your right they don’t work. I went to a mental health therapist and a doctor that helps a physocoligist. They gave me a lot of options to do. Taking walks. Have a coloring book to color in. Taking bath’s in lavander oils or soaps. I was in a similar situation as you. But every one is different they may find a med that helps or if your scared of the side effects then definitely talk to a psychiatrist definitely
I have found that medication alone only helps some…I added a therapist along with the medication and that really helps the most. Try to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with…best wishes for you.
You need to go to a psychiatrist and do an assessment. They should give you a packet to fill out to get a better understanding of your symptoms. ACP in Apple Valley is a good place to start. They are fantastic. They actually care about their patients and are very compassionate and caring.
I take depression meds. I believe its bupropion xl. I dont take them for depression but kind of as a energy boost type of thing as my doctor explained it And for me they help me feel a lot better during the day. Before taking them i was sleeping a lot and just tired all the time. Since taking them i can get outta bed and actually do stuff. I have more energy and im a lot happier during the day. But all you can do is try different ones intil you find what works for you
I was allergic to red dye! I get out in nature for depression! No meds! Yeah! Prayers!
My daughter struggles with severe anxiety and she is on buspirone. When she got pregnant she had to come off her meds for a bit and she really struggled. She is now in her 3rd trimester and is able to take again and has been told she can still take it if she decides to breastfeed. She has been on alot of meds and this one worked the best. Please seek a psychiatrist help with your meds and therapy, it really does go hand in hand. I wish you the best.
I’ve tried several. None seem to be what I need. Either don’t help or make me really odd to the outside world. I’m very open and talkative, very fun and on medicine I’m very quiet, super still and sluggish. My kids didn’t like how I acted at all. I’ve had some that were horrible as I either went straight to sleep or blacked out and didn’t remember anything. My husband ended up getting me a companion animal. My dog helps me more than anything EVER did. I’m calm happy giggly…but when I’m feeling anxious he is right there ready, if my depression hits he is right there ready to help. If you try different medications and they don’t work, get a companion animal. Highly highly recommend it.
I have been there. You need to find the right psychiatrist who will listen to your needs. It takes trail and error to get meds right. I am on meds for anxiety which seems to have taken away my depression. You may need counseling with med treatment to make it work. I am doing both. If you are in NJ message me I have great doctors.
My therapist told me about a genetic test that you can ask your dr about. It takes the trial and error out of the process. It can tell you which medication absorbs better in your body
Please find a new doctor! One who will evaluate you, ask questions and if meds are prescribed should explain reason, side effects, any question you have, dosage, etc.
You’re worth it! Good luck!
