Questions about heart burn and pains during pregnancy

Okay, mama, 's I need some help. This is my 2nd pregnancy, and I’m trying not to worry if I don’t have to. Every day I get heartburn so bad it keeps me up at night, I also have a constant pain under my right boob where my ribcage is, and now on top of that, I’ve started getting these chest pains that tighten my chest so much it feels impossible to breathe. Once I breathe through it, it’ll go away for a little bit and then happen again. Are all of these normal? I’m supposed to go to my 28-week appt on Friday, and I don’t want to make an extra trip to the dr if not needed. But all these signs together are starting to make me worry something isn’t right. I can feel my baby moving like normal, but I didn’t have all this pain with my first pregnancy. I am just looking for anyone who experienced the same thing (I know no one here is a dr.). Thank you!

Every pregnancy is different!
Oh and Prilosec!!!

:raising_hand_woman:t3: I had similar issues. The one thing I personally loves for the heartburn was the cooling chewable tums

I had all those symptoms with both of my pregnancies. Probably normal but bring it up with OB anyways

Heartburn and your baby pushing on your lungs

Apple cider vinegar is the best thing for heart burn.

Prilosec girrrrrl, i had bad heartburn and that rib pain too!!! BUt it doesnt hurt to ask your OB, they be able to offer help!

Maybe get your gallbladder checked. My daughter went through the exact same thing, she wasn’t pregnant though. It was gallbladder attacks.

I wouldn’t seek medical advise from anyone but my own obstetrician. Obviously you should see your doctor if you have concerns.

Sounds a little bit like you could have gallstones.

It is definitely normal, so calm your nerves by resting assured that this is quite common. I would suggest talking with you doctors to see what options best fit you. Prilosec helped me. Drink lots of water, dont eat and lay down. Eat atleast 3 hours before bed. Sleep with her head slightly elevated and eating small frequent light foods rather than heavy foods in one sitting , avoid acidic food and drink like OJ and pasta sauce. Good luck, it’s tough but you’ll be fine

I had the rib sign and no contractions or anything and m little boy was born at 28 weeks and 3 days and the doctor said I had the rib pain as a reason to come get checked because I was 7 cm !! It could be a sign

The Dr had to start giving me one zantac twice again. It seemed to help good

Canned peach syrup did wonders for my heartburn during my 4th pregnancy. No issues but my first 3 were so bad I had to sleep sitting up. Good luck momma. Could just be muscle strain I wouldn’t worry about the rib pain

This happened to me as well it almost sent me into a panic because i felt like i couldn’t catch my breath i slept sitting up some nights. My OB had a ultra sound of my heart but that was due to my high risk pregnancy but i was fine just gave me medication for heartburn and the feeling lasted a few weeks than went away. I really think the baby’s butt was jamming into my lungs lol

Could it be your gallbladder at all I’m currently dealing with it and it’s horrible pain!!!

Ask for protonix…its litterally the only thing that kicked my heartbur.

They stop selling zantac causes cancer ask ob what to take

Kombucha sure helps my heartburn! And ginger/ tumeric supplements

I took prevacid when I was pregnant. Helped alot

I’m 12 weeks and having horrible chest pains. Under my boobs and all around at times. It really scares me. This is my 7th child and I’ve never experienced this pain. I went to the ER and they thought it was gas but the pain is way different than that. So she reffered me to a cardiologist because she’s afraid I might have a blood clot

Tums! Regular good old tums.

You need to see your GP. That sounds like your gallbladder. I had all of those symptoms and mine was full of stones. I just had it removed a few months ago.

Sounds like those chest pains are a bad case of anxiety… try to focus on something that relaxes you, or listen to calming music. I’d still go to the dr… but I know those chest pains well and I have bad anxiety myself. I have medication I can take now when I need it.

Sure sounds like gallbladder!

If you are having chest pains you need to be seen immediately unless it is something that has already been addressed! I just got out of the hospital yesterday because I had a lung partially collapsed and got bronchitis and pnemonia within a few days! I am 25 weeks pregnant! I just thought it was from baby growing. Very scary! Always be safe rather than sorry!

I’m currently 36 weeks pregnant, 4th pregnancy with the same symptoms. It’s gotten worse the closer I get and I have to sleep propped up to help a little with the heartburn. Next appt tell your ob to prescribe you heartburn medication if you want . Also my chest pains are anxiety related and I haven’t gone in for rib pain but it comes and goes
My dr thinks it’s just baby related, prego aches and pains, and anxiety . Try to relax and just mention it at your next appt. Obviously go in sooner if you feel it gets worse or babies movement decreases significantly.

I had pnenonia tht felt like this while pregnant also babys foot was under rib

I had the worst heart burn ever with my second child and the bigger he got the worse it got, I ate Tums like candy and in my third child she decided to squish my and that made breathing so difficult at times.

Check your gallbladder. These all sound like signs of gall stones.

The heartburn is super normal. Water does it to me. The chest pain does not sounds normal though, definitely something you want to ask about

I had the symptoms your having it it was my galbladder go get checked.

This all sounds like things I’ve felt and am currently feeling. If baby is moving like normal and you’re not in pain that involves baby I would say wait and talk to your OB Friday about all of it. But if it gets worse obviously go in.

Sounds like gallstones. I had my gallbladder removed a month after I had my 2nd child.

Could be gall stones if on right. And chest pains sound like a panic attack I used get them bad in pregnancy. Go to doctors as gall stones can give bad indigestion too

I hate heartburn so bad I would puke from it all throughout my pregnancy. I did get rib pain and even now it feels like my rib is displaced. Chest pain not typical. I’d have that checked out.

Could be your gallbladder. Same thing started happening to me ending of my pregnancy and six weeks after the baby was born I had to have emergency gallbladder removal. Get it checked out!

Prilosec is a life savor for me!! Without it I have SEVERE heartburn/indigestion where it’s all but debilitating. You could call your ob and tell them youre having heartburn & they will prescribe you something over the phone without an appt or could buy it over the counter.

I’m 38 weeks with my 2nd. And have all the same problems. I told my OB about the chest pains. And she ordered some CT scans and an MRI. Everything came back clear. But its soooooo tough. My chest tightens up till I can’t breathe. And my left arm is numb 24/7. Not to mention the heartburn.

I wanna say gallbladder it’s common for it to act up during pregnancy I had a friends that got so bad she had to have surgery I believe after she had the baby

I had my dr prescribe me Protonix because the heartburn and acid reflux were so bad. It didn’t matter if I didn’t eat anything and just drank water. I also have a history of GI issues anyway so it was the best thing for me to ask for something. Also I eat mints almost constantly if it flares up but since starting the prescription I haven’t had nearly the amount of discomfort

You can always call your doctor and ask if they feel like you should be seen sooner.

My wife had massive heartburn with her 2nd child. She would eat raw potatoes and that took away the heartburn. The doc said it was from the baby having a lot of hair.

Raw almonds helped a lot until the end for me. I barely slept

I had that but mine wasnt heartburn it was high blood pressure I had preeclampsia with 2 of my 3 babies talk to your doctor cause it could be just heart burn or it could be something more if its just heartburn ask for promethazine with my 1 that was the only relief I got from nausea and i was able to eat it also makes you tired but works great

I am going through the exact same thing and am 36 weeks pregnant but it started well before this. I just take a tums. It will not hurt you or your baby and it should help.

I would look into gallstones and galbladder. The pain from my gallbladder was so awful and would last hours. Before the attacks did you happen to eat something greasy? Does the pain seem limited to under the beast area, more intense on the right side, or wrap around like a belt of pain? The pain can cause the breathing problems. It’s super common. Try to not eat greasy foods, sleep upright, no lettuce because it doesn’t digest well, and no fatty foods. And of course see your doctor to be referred to a specialist. And if the pain doesn’t go away in a few hours, go into the ER, they may have to do emergency surgery.

I wasn’t aware of this but pregnancy can cause gallstones and I was in excruciating pain when I was pregnant due to them. I had to have an emergency surgery after my baby was born to get my gallbladder removed.

If you still have your gallbladder, I would look into that. Is it worse with high fat foods? Regardless, talk to your doctor.

I had the worse heartburn and acid reflux with my son, I’m talking even water before bed I’d be waking up for tums with acid in my throat. The pain in the ribs i had was from him being so big and sitting so high he was causing the nerve to get pinch, didn’t go away until he dropped 3days before i went in for induction.
Tums and milk help and lots of rest…you got this momma!

Been having this problem throughout my whole pregnancy n it’s all acid reflex you should try n get some pills from your dr for acid reflex/heartburn, they help me. But one tip I would really give that helps me is when feeling it, go and make yourself throw up you’ll feel way better then take the pill and it’s eventually going to stop hurting.

You sound like me!!
Lots of extra blood flowing in the body causes all kinds different problems…I’m taking an iron supplement and feel a lot better
Drink lots of water

Tums were a lifesaver for me, they’re calcium and my doctor told me to eat as many as I needed.
I still (no longer pregnant) get muscle cramps that sound exactly as you are describing. Maybe you are having muscle spasms from low potassium. Ask your ob.

I had my gallbladder removed when my baby was only a week and a half old. Your pain sounds like what I had

Sounds like ur gallbladdee

Try milk for the heartburn…I had it excessively when I was pregnant. Then my son came out with a ton of hair!! It went after I had him. The chest pains are a worry though - I’d speak to your doctor or Gynae xx

I’m 26 weeks and have the same issues. Dr told me that the chest pains is probably acid reflux

Baby could be pressing on your organs hence why you are getting pains there. also since it’s your second one your body will instinctively react as baby grows, my advice is go to the doctor and tell him/her what your experiencing and for safety they will check on you more regular… all the best with baby keep healthy and positive within yourself don’t worry been there and I was grateful I had a doctor who listen to me anxiety does push it’s limits onto your body…

I had dreadful dreadful heartburn when pregnant with both my kids, to the point it used to make me vomit. The only thing that helped me was tums, tick tacks and also laying down on my left side.

Sit up straight after eating.

Sounds word for word what I had. I have gallbladder disease. Increased pressure on the organ can cause blocked bile ducts, which causes the symptoms. Drinking coffee decreases the likelihood of gallstones, and clean eating has eliminated all of my symptoms. As long as I don’t eat anything overly processed, super fatty, or fried, I’m golden and feel great. The second I give in to a craving though, I certainly pay for it. It’s hard because when you’re pregnant a lot of providers just push off aches and pains along with heartburn because it’s “normal” but still worth looking into.

I had similar problems, it was GERD or acid reflux. I had to sleep sitting up in a recliner most of my pregnancy and even a few months after I had my baby

Gallbladder… Sounds like same pain I had… After i gave birth i had to have my gallbladder removed. Never had issues till I got pregnant… With in 9 months my gallbladder was full of stones!

I also had a pain under my left boob, around my ribs. It always got worse when i breathed deep. It would bother me for a few days, then go away for a few days. Never did figure out what it was, so I’m no help. BUT I did have a healthy pregnancy, uncomplicated labour and delivery, & a healthy baby girl right on time.

Costocondritis is the inflammation of the rib cage I had that with my son, very hard to diagnose. I used ice packs to relieve pain, keep disposable ice pack in your bag. Ask dr if you can take anti inflammatory medication they might prescribe something similar but safer for baby. Good luck Momma!

All of those happen to me with both my pregnancies. This time I get heartburn and acid reflux so bad I throw up, and have to sleep sitting up or I’ll wake up choking on my throw up. The rib cage thing is probably your baby kicking in the same spot over and over again. My best advice is get some tums and pepto bismol. I don’t think there’s anything to rush to the doctor about but bring it up at your next appointment, they might have some ideas/suggestions to ease your discomfort

Spoon full of mustard nasty but wonderful relief

Could be your gallbladder…the pain happened to me through out my pregnancy…it was intense

I got really bad acid reflex had to be put on zantac. And the other part sounds like anxiety

Use Gaviscon. Not the liquid, the extra strength tablets. White bottle with red cap. Saved me my last two pregnancies.

You need to go to the doctor. Other option is going to the e.r so they can monitor you to get a baseline as to what is wrong.

Could be gd, fruit tingles help with heartburn. Chest tightness sounds like anxiety or panic attacks. Definitely go see the doctor

I get gas bubbles so bad its crippling …used to happen to me ALL the time …definitely bring it up to tour doctor tho…i lived off tums with my daughter lol

Chest pain and tightness are serious symptoms of impending heart attack. You need to make that extra trip or go to an emergency room.

Try a spoonful of mustard and it should relieve the heartburn. Try sleeping propped up as well.

At your Dr’s appt on Friday mention the pain and symptoms. You may be experiencing a gallbladder attack. The heart burn and pain under your right breast at the rib cage are telling symptoms. Apple cider vinegar can help relieve the pain of the gallbladder and changes your body’s pH, which may relieve your heartburn. I’m saying take no chances, go to E.R. just in case it’s something serious. 18 yrs ago, a week from 8 months pregnant I didn’t go to E.R. when I wasn’t feeling my greatest, laid day all day, couldn’t take the uneasy slight feeling. I finally went, no heartbeat at all. Had to have my Angel, and She wasnt alive any longer. She is my Angel watching over Me. Go to the Emergency, Please… God Bless

take a spoonful of dry oatmeal, it absorbs the acid

Since your pregnant you should call the Dr about this. Coming on here for advice isn’t the smartest. Your body is telling you something could be wrong. Please call your Dr. Sending you hugs and positive thoughts. Blessings

It would happen to me, it could be acid reflux, had my gallbladder removed (was not working properly) and had an endoscopy done…chocolate, drinking soda, spicy food, and eating late is what makes it worse… Doctor can give you medicine for acid reflux…

I would go to the doctors because my dad was having chest pains and come to find out he had a heart attack. Not trying to scare you but you may want to go to your doctor’s …

First off…go to the Dr. Better safe than sorry. Heartburn is normal. Gas is also normal if you’re eating a lot of foods high in gas. That could be gas bubbles by your rib and near your chest. Try eating frequent small low gas meals during the day. The bigger baby gets, the worse the heartburn will get. Small meals is the key. Try walking after meals as well. I had all the symptoms you’re referring to. Dr. First though.

It sounds like you have a hiatal hernia. Talk to your doctor.

A rib that’s out of place can have that effect on your breathing. The acid reflux can be treated as well by the doc if over the counter stuff isn’t working. Definitely mention it to the doctor at your appointment. You can also call the nurse line and see what they suggest as well

Sounds like gas and acid issues

I had arrythmias during one pregnancy. Hormones caused it.

Use baking soda instead of drugs for acid reflux.

Tell your Dr. sounds like gallbladder, but could be anything. Don’t take a chance on dealing with it or ignoring it any longer. I had horrible heartburn during my pregnancy that would keep me up or wake me up. It’s awful.

I had really bad heartburn the last half of my pregnancy. Thought I was going to die. It hurt all the way to my back. Call your doctor and tell him what your symptoms are. He may want you to come in. If it gets too bad, go to ER.

GO TO YOUR DOCTOR! It could be nothing, but why take the chance?

It definitely sounds like gastric reflux. Eat lighter meals. Stop eating at least 3 hours before going to bed. Definitely talk to your doctor about what you can take. I used to drink milk and it worked for heart burn. But that doesn’t help everyone. Good luck.

Have them check your gall bladder. Its a simple ultrasound. I had all of those symptoms when mine acted up.

Chest pains sounds like angina( ER IMMEDIATELY ) IT’S NOT SOMETHING TO WATCH. I would also like to know if the chest pain radiates to neck or arm or is it localized. Heartburn is possible during pregnancy, use a wedge pillow when going to sleep, do not eat 2 to 3 hrs before bed and go easy on the greasy and spicy foods and sleep on your left side (based on the anatomical position of the stomach this will prevent backflow of gastric content. You can also take antacids or drink milk which will neutralize the stomach acid.

Sound like gallbladder disease

Be careful taking an antacid for the heartburn. With my last child the heartburn was so bad I actually overdosed and ended up in intensive care with dangerously high levels of calcium.

I second the gallbladder thing. I had to have mine out when I was pregnant with my second.
